@@teoborunda469 It might even have been true, after a fashion. This is a man who just informed her he'd led her Khaleesi to her death - what, might one imagine, could he have done to her if she didn't maintain his good graces by any means necessary?
Xaro taught Dany a truly important lesson, one we heard earlier in the season: power is a trick, a shadow on the wall. Truth is unimportant in the Game of Thrones, one only needs the ILLUSION of power, and you can still win.
As for those who say that Dany was stupid for killing him, I say this: after he killed some of her men and stole her dragons, she could never trust him again, and why leave your enemies alive to strike at you again?
Wesley Molt I don't think people are upset that Dany killed them,it's more like the means she used to do so. It would have been better to cut their heads off. Dying a slow painful death..

@@ethulwulf5351 Drowning is actually supposed to be a pretty nice way to go after the initial panic - the lack of oxygen causes a state of delirious euphoria and calm to the point that a lot of people stop actually struggling and just kind of enjoy their imminent death.
I've got to say, I think Cersei might have won nastiest way to murder someone - locked in a cell, watching your daughter die, just out of reach. Then being kept alive until you die of old age, watching your dead child rot in front of you. If Ellaria Sand didn't entirely lose her mind after about a year of that, I guess the next several decades would be pretty samey, but who's going to make it through a year of that without losing their mind?
“Never build a dungeon you wouldn't be happy to spend the night in yourself. Doreah's betrayal on the show surprised me because I actually liked her character! In the books Doreah dies on the road due to illness, her death merely described in less than a few sentences. I'm not surprised though since Daenerys' storyline in ACOK was very anticlimactic they had to dramatise her story for the show. I guess Irri (the servant) was a part of Doreah in the books because it was sad seeing Doreah turn into a traitor on the show.
it was also weird that they literally ignored three dragons.
like.
dragons are living war machines.
Show Doreah is the embodiment of 'You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain'.
Also, Doreah, I believe, is the same who tells of the link between the astrological phenomenon of the conjunction of the sun and moon and the sword or cometary hit that rained "dragons" from the sky...
Also, in this arc, Jorah explained and foreshadowed the Walkers when talking about the grass that overtook everything so nothing could grow...
I wonder if it was an analogy to the fall of dragons and the win of the Walkers, but obviously I was paying more attention than the writers of the last season, since they threw everything away....
I expected this explanation in a "Bran tells the story" episode than never came.
@@devanov3103Neither Daenerys. She gradually became a sociopath and a menace to the world.
The "Take all the gold and jewels" line was actually Iain Glen improvising because David Peterson missed the call in which the producers meant to request the translation. Glen's line sounded like proper Dothraki so Peterson retrofitted it into Dothraki's actual grammar and lexicon.
That's very interesting, thanks for the extra info!
I think he made it so that Jorah said something like the loose valuables are for taking since the word for gold had already been established.

@truebel iever786 nice
Lol, I think the show makes it pretty clear she doesn't tolerate any disobedience, treason or adversity. She will be almost as cruel as Cersei in her revenge. People think she's a good character, but she's a freak of nature, a hybrid with dragon blood who can control fire (through dragons), an extreme of the same evil (just like the Night King) ultimately a villain.
People think she's good because she freed slaves. But they became her subjects, she was the ultimate slave master. When one such ex slave overstepped, she had him executed, causing a rebellion.
She could have shown mercy, but she did not because he directly disobeyed her will. Doesn't that make her a slave master as well?
@@Ariana-wv4pf Yes. Dany is NOT a good person or a good ruler. She's extremely cruel and entitled and worse, thinks she has the Divine right to be so. This is the perfect recipe for a tyrant.
I forgot this important scene...She says "Thank you for teaching me this lesson" because it was after this moment that Daenerys stopped letting people around her screw her over. Xaro had played like he was her friend same as Doreah only to betray her. It shows that you dont try to double cross Khaleesi!
it would explain why she didnt share her strategy in Astapor with Jorah and Barristan

She didn’t want to have advisors she wanted blind loyalty and devotion. Not a sign of a good leader more like a dictator
Tammy Martinez You’re wrong, 💯 she took the council of her trusted advisors numerous times and those that followed her she took care of them.
Then comes season 8, where people screw her over.
I love the way Jorah yells the command, "Take all the gold and jewels!" ... They're Dothraki!! As if they needed the encouragement!!
They still follow orders, and Jorah is Dany's right hand. I don't think they would have taken anything without an order since this wasn't actually a raid.

If I were Xaro I would've attacked Daenerys and have one of the guards stab and kill me with a sword. Much better way to die than starving to death.
Damn, you're so smart
If it is any comfort, that vault looks pretty airtight and with two people inside, they probably suffocated within an hour or two long before they starved to death.
At least you don't have to wait as long therefore you don't suffer as much.
All of you, so smart, much praise.
Emiscary1 technically speaking, unlike being choked to death, being shut in an airtight room is a relatively painless way to go, as the oxygen is sucked from the room and replaced with carbon monoxide they would get a headache maybe suffer some dizzyness and than just drift into unconsciousness and than die of necrosis of the brain. The show did something different which I like, its like "The Butterfly Effect" this could have happened if Doreah didn't die in the desert like in the books. It shows a very important lesson for Dany and even for the readers, people aren't what they might seem to be. Take Margery Tyrell for example, she may seem like a kind and charitable young woman but deep down she is just like Cersei only more manipulative and sneaky.

Having read the books I think she's got shit sorted out by the end of ADWD, and you'd be a fool to believe she won't be bringing fire and blood to her opposition.
Vivanda Meryl Phyllis It's funny how people forget that Cersei is way closer to the mad king then Daenerys has ever been. If you want madness, look in that direction. Daenerys had the problem that she couldn't let people become victims of circumstance. (I.E she couldn't execute wards) fire and blood means that she has accepted that her methods will always be grey so they might as well be the type of grey that gets the job done.
Dany's voice gives me the chills here just before she locked them in. When she gets this melancholical voice somebody is going to die... it was the same when she told Viserys that he'll get his crown and to Mirri that she doesn't want her screams.... It was an epic scene I think... even though it was different from the book. Go, Dany, get that damn chair with your dragons! Fire and Blood!
Fire and blood indeed XD
I wished the same 8 years back when i started watching this show.. Was sad to see it didnt end that way..
Nerd
well i think it's not only that Xaro betrayed her (which is bad enough) but he hurt her feelings as a woman
he had been boasting with his huge wealth & offered to marry Daenerys and share his wealth with her so she could get enough money to invade Westeros, and Daenerys was really considering his offer
but his real plans were to deliver her to Pyat Pree from the House of the Undying where they kept her dragons: there she would've been chained to a wall for the rest of her life. she was lucky that she could escape from there.
also, now it turns out not only was he not serious about his offer, but wasn't nearly as wealthy as he said: the vault was empty, so he was in fact a liar & charlatan.
so from the promise to marry a very rich man & be able to return to Westeros, she would've been a life-long prisoner. i can quite understand that she's so pissed off.
Yeah but still have the Dragons roast them alive. Behead them to make them die slow deaths either by suffocation or starving thats just messed up. To hear the poor girl crying and pleading for picking what she thought would be her only way of survival thats pretty heartless.
Matthew Smith It's Game of Thrones, do you expect anything less?
harpyion , actually, it was worse than that; the warlock said she would be a prisoner "a thousand thousand seasons, until time comes to an end"; so somehow he planned to keep himself and her alive forever; as his prisoner. Imagine being chained to a wall for a million years. If his boast was true, he was planning on using her to make himself immortal, which is pretty heavy magic for a warlock....

I love when ser Jorah says “take all the gold and jewels” - one, you have that awesome music that makes you feel like they really accomplished something. They’ve got money and a ship now.
Two - it’s a callback to that bit at the fancy party where Ser Jorah listens to the Dothraki talk about how to carry off some golden bird statue.
And if you look in the background as Dany leaves with the dragons, you can see two Dothraki men carrying off that very same peacock statue.
At the party where one of them throws out the wine and keeps the cup 🤣🤣🤣

she did keep the key and as far ahead as her planning seem to be later maybe she was waiting till she could get one of the 3 people (as mentioned when neds sword was reforged) that could reforge it into swords and armour.
Imagine if dany took all the valyrian steel she could find and armed her dragons...god that would be insane.
the music makes this scene
The music sucks. It's artificially produced (fake strings, brass, and drums) and merely piggybacks on the epic-ness of the story.
Who cares if the instruments in this score are fake? still sounds beautiful, as are ramin djawadi's other compositions for game of thrones. perhaps it's an acquired taste. granted, the background music is insignificant in this particular scene, but the music and story go hand in hand in many other episodes, especially the season 6 finale

I was kind of sad with how they portrayed Doreah in the show. She never had any special relations with Viserys, and was always loyal to Dany. After Drogo’s death, she died in the deserts as Dany tended to her. And in the books, Jhoggo survived. So I guess in the show, they somehow made up for Doreah’s death by killing Jhogo.
She was always loyal to dany in the show as much as can be expected from a slave. She was bought by Viserys for Dany and ended up in a Dothraki war camp. Prior to that she had been a bedslave for around 15 years before being bought by a magister loyal to house targaryen and moving to his mansion. When she starts getting hit on in Season 2 by Xaro and is given a dress as a gift, she clearly remembers a lot about her old life and after being in the Dothraki war camp then traveling through the desert she was ready for a change of scenery. She felt much less like a slave and more like a free person, so she decided to betray Dany since she thought Xaro wouldn't keep her alive and she'd get to live a life of luxury with the wealthiest man in the city and the new King of Qarth.
She did have a character arc in there.
Top 5 worst deaths on GoT:
5. Joffrey - choking to death in agonising pain
4. Ramsay - getting eaten alive by dogs
3. Oberyn - getting your eyes gouged and head crushed like a watermelon.
2. Shireen (and others) - burned alive
1. Xaro & Doreah - Being locked in a pitch black cell to starve, suffocate and go mad over weeks.
I dont think choking to death is such a bad death to be in the top 5. Meryn Traunt death by Arya is far far far worse, also the guy the hound stabs in the eye multiple times at the "chicken" fight.
Just remembered, both tristain martell and that lead traitor of the night's watch who got stabbed from the back of the head to the front, both deaths suck. Yes it would be quick but it would be horrible.
You underestimate how painful suffocating is, not to mention that Joff was hemorrhaging blood all over the place so he must have been in tons of pain.

Even in the books he is clearly the bigger more powerful dragon of three. So the show was just being consistent
I always loved all 3 of them
Ik this is not in accordance to what the Dothraki believe happens when they die, but I like to think Drogo was reborn as Drogon; it would explain a lot of things, like why he's the biggest and most dominant of the three, in addition to being the most protective of Dany. I like to think he was still with her, but as a dragon.
@@joaniekeyser4036 Drogon is definitely Drogo. There’s too many coincidences for me. Zorro Zohan Duck Sauce tells Khal Easy that he can help her now. Khal Easy instead locks him in a vault, not trusting anyone since Mira Mas Durr
I LAUGED
It's weird. You have a franchise which has pretty much become a buzzword for "re-inventing how many brutal ways a person could die", and yet it's Doreah getting locked in the safe that was the hardest death for me to stomach.
It's definitely interesting when you think about how this show has so many gorey, grotesque death scenes, some of them are even nightmare inducing to watch due to their violence. And yet, watching a man and a woman be locked into a dark empty safe-like room with no injuries on them where they will either starve or suffocate to death, is actually one of the most unsettling death scenes in the show, despite being one of the most simplistic death scenes in the show.
I guess that just comes to show, the scariest way to die doesn't have to be the most bloody death.
It's practically humane. I've seen a lot of comments saying that safe is supposed to be airtight. They'd run out of oxygen, yes, but it wouldn't be like when you choke or down someone or shove a pillow over their face. They'd get tired, weak, and then just drift off... and never wake up. Sounds almost peaceful.
Giggle, actually, it’s never explicitly shown just how big that vault is, but it looks pretty big. I’ve seen estimates that it could take anywhere from a day to 12 days, depending on the number of people and size of the room, before co2 poisoning gets ya. So honestly I’d bet on dehydration killing them before they fully suffocated. And, unlike suffocating, dehydration is a gruesome, terrible way to go.

People say this foreshadowed Dany becoming mad, but I still disagree. She betrayed Dany causing the deaths of her loyal followers. She didn't care what would happen to Dany or her dragons. She came for Dany and missed, they both did. So she locked them both in that empty chamber with its empty promises. Ain't nothing crazy about ending a fight someone else started with you.
it is a cruel death, without question, but a earned one and in character.
dany has always targeted those who are the actual source of her misfortune and damage. When it came for the masters to die, she only killed the men and demanded that only they were to die, cause they had no hand in it.
targeting the people themselves is against her character. at most she'd only have scorched them if cersei was fleeing in their midst.
The writers trying to justify the shit they wrote that was seasons 7 and 8 is absolutely disgusting. It makes me sick to my stomach that they never owned up to fucking up the entire ending of GOT. She was never going to go “mad” and they know it.
@@mmfhasj1 the writers didn’t know how to end it there’s a reason kit Harrington was afraid the season finale would seem misogynistic because it was dany is killed by her lover in a false sense of security and turned mad for no reason, brienne a strong willed knight cries in her bathrobe because Jamie left her and they rewarded Sansa everything she wanted and she was happy in the end but why was dany punished for her ambitions and there was no reason for Arya to hate dany because she’s “not one of us” that line made me so made. This was particularly sadistic of Dany, but not nearly as bad as what Cersei did to Ellaria Sand and her daughter and those two examples combined isn’t as bad as what Cersei did to the nun by basically giving her as a gift to the zombie version of Gregor Clegane aka The MOUNTAIN. Ironically enough, none of that would’ve ever happened if Cersei hadn’t falsely accused Tyrion of murdering Joffrey. That was what set the plans in motion.
I will say that Oberyn probably would’ve found a way to fight Gregor no matter what and Oberyn would’ve beat him if he wouldn’t have hesitated and forced him to admit his crimes. However, Cersei’s actions did lead to this.
Hell, Joffrey wouldn’t have been poisoned by Olenna if he would’ve been a decent man and King. He would’ve been a completely different person if Cersei would have raised him the right way instead of coddling him and letting him do whatever he wanted while constantly feeding his ego. I guess it would’ve been boring though if they were all good people. 😂
I LOVE the background music; one of my favorite Game of Thrones song: "Mother of Dragons" from the season 2 OST if anyone's curious. So epic.
And to the Daenerys haters in here, really? Yeah, it's cruel as hell, but she needs to be severe and just if she ever hopes to sit on The Iron Throne.
bells sounding
"severe and just"
Choose one. Here she's not being just at all, just plain cruel.
@@siddharthshrivastava1399 And you are being plain stupid. You don't hear us complaining
This was a sign she was beginning to become pretty sadistic. I would have just had both of their heads cut off and have been done with it.
Later, when people asked where Xaro Xhoan Daxos & Doreah went, they were told, "They are in a Safe place."
You'd think that he would create a way to escape his own vault, just in case this happened.
That would have been a great surprise later on.
She learned to be more careful before trusting people. He had promised her a vault full of gold to buy a fleet of ships if she married him, his vault was empty so he couldn't give what he promised. He was just trying to use her
the dragons are so cute and cuddly... I want 10
Faisal Touqan Now theyre all big and fat but still cute lol at least Drogon is.
I don't care if they were as big as my house, I still want 10
no no I don't care about warranty or laws, I want 10
+Faisal Touqan I like your style, never compromising on a dragon deal.
Thank you, so do you have my dragons?
This was way too cruel even for one's sworn enemies. If I had to execute them I would have made it quick.
The thing is that she was not her enemy she was her friend and she betrayed her . That is worst to have an expected confrontation with an enemy. Only an enemy who fought with honor deserve a quick death. That fat as pretended to be her friend and then stabbed her in the back. So yeah they asked for this and more if they confront someone who spent time being a Khaleesy watching people being raped, tortured and killed in a very gross way her brother for example she didn't even blinked.
They were prepared to leave Daenarys locked up for eternity with her dragons in exchange for the warlock's help. It's also implied in a deleted scene that Doreah killed Irri.
Even Ramsay and Joffrey didn't to that
Well, it sends a message across. Betray me and I will hurt you in the most painful way I can imagine. I think after seeing something like this firsthand, you'd strongly reconsider any treacherous thoughts you might harbor against Daenerys.
On the other hand, if you are an enemy who openly admits it and who only happens to be an enemy because they believe in a different set of ideals or who fights for their homeland and you conduct yourself with honor and pride, you might be granted a swift and merciful death because you did not choose to become enemies. You merely fought for what you believed in and it happened to be opposed to what the invaders believe in.
I'm surprised both of them just went in like that. I would have at least died trying to fight if I knew I was about to be locked away in a vault forever.
In the book, doreah died in the red waste
no one cares.
@@reidparker1848i do
I love this scene... it was epic! The music, her reaction, her indifference. Perfect.
To me, this was one reason I wasn’t surprised Daenerys turned Mad. I always thought this was purely diabolical
Her face is priceless. The look of your dragon mistress when she finds you with another man lol
One of the most gruesome deaths, if not the most gruesome one
Even Cersei had more justification for the Sands than Daenerys did for this.
It’s early scenes like this that really explain why the last season made sense
Doreah killed Daeneris most loyal servant and Xaro tricked her...they totally deserved that....Jhon Snow hanged a little child just because of vengeance...that kid witnessed his parents being brutally murdered by the wildlings, he had all the reason of not trusting him...still "Daeneris become mad "makes sense" and Jhon is a hero
One could only imagine the horrors that went on in that vault.
I love how Jorah goes from pretty much fighting amusement over the Dothraki wanting to steal shit earlier to actual pleasure as he shouts "Oh hell yes, let's get this done."
Happy that doreah didn't do this in the book
Ya, she just died...
+Austin Abernathy how?
+IlluminatiBacca read the books
Don't have the money or the time
+IlluminatiBacca well basically as Dany and her Khalasar are roaming through the wilderness, Doreah dies of a fever.
"After defeating Pyat Pree, the anorexic alien, she moves onto Xaro Xhoan Daxos and pwns him in the face."
lmao dat description
Doreah should of been allowed to live
Jorah the Hypeman. 2:15
I like the way things go in the books a lot more
She may have locked them up, but at least they're safe.
If you were shocked by Daenerys in S8, you haven't been paying attention.
Lesson for today: No matter what a room is intended for, never build one that you can get trapped in.
Well said, Charles
this death lives in my head up to this day
There are fates worse than normal death
There is something about this death which is so much more memorable than others. Locking two people in a compartment alive and healthy, with nothing but each other. It’s so darkk
Think about Ellaria and her daughter. Far more cruel and horrible
She was too cruel
Game of Thrones
***** She betrayed her + killed Irri :3
+Giuseppe Galli, not necessary. Even though she may act too strict sometimes, she do at least take the right people. They did something awful and deserved punishment. Here they being put in prison. She can be more humane than other in Game of Thrones sometime. Except that time when she crucified 160+ slave owners that were cruel by themselves.
+You are L Mad queen fan spotted.
Lol back in time when I was a bit older than you we did shit all the time
I couldn’t imagine that type of death.
They can’t even make their deaths quick either. That would suck.
This is such a good scene. Thanks for the post.
so... there aren't any guardians in Qarth to protect xaro are they?
No one deserves to be trapped like that.
Irri didn't deserve to be murdered by Doreah either
Well it ain't that funny. Ask Detective Hoffman
Well, if that vault is airtight, I guess it would be a small mercy for them since they'd die of suffocation long before dehydration or starvation gets them. If it's not airtight, they can survive in there for as long as a week. If they're REALLY lucky, Xaro managed to smuggle a small knife in there or something so he can slit her throat and then his own wrists and they bleed out. Still better then waiting for dehydration to get you...
Ned: man who passes the sentence should swing the sword.
Dany: "Bury them alive my servants!"
I think this is a lesson for Dany: that even those you love, who are closest to you, can betray you. We see this going on in Westeros, and this is Dany learning that, if she wants to rule, this is what she'll have to learn, which is why she thanks her betrayers. It doesn't mean she doesn't feel, but she's learning that, to be a ruler, one has to be ruthless to establish respect: at least in Game of Thrones.
In the end, she was ruthless and it earned her nothing. She never truly internalized that there is no such thing as a right to rule, only the consent from the governed that she never tried to earn.
I can't be the only one who felt bad for Doreah
In the books she actually dies in Daenarys' arms, from fever, thirst, and exhaustion. She never betrayed her.
She killed the other dothraki girl. She can go.
@@_TheEndless_ seriously? Maybe it's just because I'm an idiot but I don't remember hearing that in the show... I actually thought Xaro was the one who killed Irri...
@@jsuispastiktokeusehein Theres a deleted scene showing Doreah asfixiating Irri
@@FS-ms2md and Irri's actress was actually very hurt during that scene that was cut.
Anyone else has chills running down their backs at 1:08? It's exciting how regal and queenlike she is. It really feels like the turning point where Dany the girl (from being refused by the spice merchant and played by pyat pree and xaro) transforms into Queen Daenerys. :D
ever since i watched this scene, their fate haunts my mind.
a chunky man who is used to eating well and a dorthraki women who eats when she can.
they’re both locked up in a safe, to die together.
so they starve together, well the man will starve to death alone once he’s eaten the whole women.
Ngl the way that Dothraki snatched his amulet or keychain was smooth af.
Nobody fucks with the Mother of Dragons!!!
Dude I mean seriously. At least stab them. Don't leave someone to die of thirst or suffocate in the dark. That's just messed up
Daenarys is somewhat cruel, so I think that was the point.
***** I already hate her.
RTS1011 Her fan base really doesn't see how cruel she is. She's becoming like Walter White. Walter was a good man at first but at the last seasons he had people killed and was completely insane.
Ruling is hard you know you can't be soft hearted all the time. I think she was good right until she sent Jorah away that was horrible.
***** It's not that Jorah didn't want to apologise, he didn't do it the way she wanted him to. Daenerys wanted him to grovel. Barristan was not super apologetic.
LOVE the music! Great scene.
"Take all the gold and jewels," Jorah said calmly.
