i read that the masked woman was a shadowbender similar to the red priestess, so i think shes just another priestess of the god of light. which would explain why she seemed prophetical and wanted to protect Daenerys

The Warlocks of Quarth, a very old guild of mages. Their Magic seemed to become strong again while the Dragons where close, and the Servants are either disguised Warlocks or somehow mentally controlled at this time. The Way they actually gain Power is ment to be Mystical
he wasn`t just a Warlock .. what he said at the end "The House of the Undying" where her dragons were. He had connections to the Many Faced God. He was probably like Jacken Haggar and later on Arya .. an faceless assassin
And after that episode, the return of magic was never shown or mentioned again. This guy was literally a powerful warlock and got used as a filler villain and the resurfacing of magic ignored completely.
That’s why I just tell people to read the books, they are much better. Also it wasn’t the last we see of magic, Melisandre and her whole arc had magic and demon shadow births

And no, most of the fan favourites in the show are as popular in the books amongst the fandom, if not more. As for the delay the best art takes time to be finished, and I would prefer a delayed but excellent book than a rushed and bad one.
