my kind of guy ,reminds me of growing up in my town when life was the river.Fishing at night by the kerosene lantern and swimming during the day, living outside.I wish I was still there.
This is pure country laid-back HEAVENLY FAMILY living at it's finest!!! The thick southern accent that is as southern as my accent just adds pleasure. ME & MY dad did this all the time here in Mobile Alabama up until he died 3 yrs ago. Now I'm doing this with my 15 yr old nephew & MY 13 yr old daughter...they love it...AND I REALLY LOVE IT...FAMILY IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT & WHAT IT WILL ALWAYS BE ABOUT TO ME!!!!!!
Man I hope we never lose this lifestyle. Grew up w a dad that fished and hunted and had me out there from 7yrs old on. Spent a lot of time in the everglades in airboats at his camps on stilts. Hunt deer by day and catch catfish off the dock. At night my dad and his hunt buddies would fire up his airboat and send me out by myself so j could gig frogs. Man i miss it.
I like that man. He has tons of respect for the river and the fun and sustenance it provides as well as takeing care of it for future generations of fishermen
I’m up to my butt in snow with wind chills at zero stuck in the house repairin last year’s trotlines and your video makes the time go by until next fishin trip a lot easier-thanks.
Lord this brings back many, many fun-filled memories of running trot lines on the Tombigbee River near Jackson, Alabama. My uncle has a camp on the river where we would often spend the entire weekend fishing. It's true, catfish will bite almost anything if given enough time. We once used ivory soap on a drop line and did catch one catfish. The river is heavily used by tugs pushing barges down to Mobile and up north. They use to drag heavy chains to run the bottom and bust the lines. Buggers
I miss doing this,I need to get back to it.Yes ,a many good days.It was the Big,and the Little Piney River's.A good place is Devil's Elbow,Mo.,on the piney.Begnal Dam at theMissiourri River.Good fishing at the dam for Spoonbill, big fish.
You all had a good day of fishing and I would love to be there to help cleaning and cooking the fish. That is good eating and you all must have enjoyed eating that fish.
Good deal. It's Lardo of the Moron Brothers. Seems like a interesting man to spend the afternoon with. Love his music too. From a fan here in Nicholasville.
There sure isn't anything lazy about running lines. I just found your channel and glad I did. You OBVIOUSLY have yrs of experience and know what you are doing. I don't see any guys that cut the tails off & let the fish bleed out. It is truly best for the fish to be alive. Wack tails and let them hang(head up) and pump the blood out. .... just wondering why more folks don't do that. My way is certainly not the only way. I notice that the fish tastes even better, when bled out.
Do I qualify for being a Southern Boy? I live in Central Arizona. When I was a kid in The Great State of Texas, my Uncle taught me how to fish for catfish, Both with a trout line and with a pole. The most fun I ever had! He knew where all the good lakes were, and we lived next to the Red River, but mostly just pulled carp from it. So much bone in carp, we had to pressure cook them to be able to even eat them. Catfish is still my favorite fried in cornmeal. My Aunt had the best recipe for cooking catfishin cornmeal in a cast iron skillet too!
I live in KY and used to set trotlines as a kid every year on vacation. It's a lot of work checking your lines at sunrise and dusk, but you'll have more than enough catfish and turtle to eat. I cracked up at that one comment. "I think they taste better than chicken. I could eat 'em with one foot in the far (fire)!" LMAO
Me and buddy went down to the river over yonder and was hoping to catch some fish when we saw a limb with a lot of string and lures on it from people trying to catch ol Tom the big catfish that was down there but nobody could catch em. So me and budy had a plan, we got tied our line off with a chain and hooked it to a nearby oak tree and cast our bait in there and when we came back that oak tree was nearly pulled into the water so we hooked the chain to the horses and once we undid it from the tree we waited for the team of horses to pull it out...well last thing we saw was the horses ears going under water bout 30 feet off shore....me and buddy called it a day
oh yea, used to go to the lake twice a year and get channel cat. 24 to 30 inch is the best size. to much bigger than that they don't taste as good. 24 inch is perfect. yummy and so easy to skin up and fillet.
God does this ever bring back memories when I was a kid we would set a trambel net out to ,Thay were legal back than and my parents had to feed us kids somehow
Checking trot lines at night in South Georgia farm ponds was about as much fun as a kid can ever have. Thanks to my older brothers for letting me tag along!
i like the sow story, lol willow tree cat fish, lol i have never trot lined, but i sure wont too, i dont no how to swim so im a little scared to try it, but i guess with a big life jacket it will be fine!!!
My grandpa would shoot a jack rabbit and cuts cubes out of it and let it sit in the sun a couple days.. you couldn't pull it off a hook. catfish loved it..
man i jumped in that bayou to catch that catfish and i had one end and a gator had the other end so i wound up kicking that gators ass! you dont mess with this cajun!
It s just good clean fun. We do the same thing here in NC. My family on my moms side were from Western Ky. there on the Green R. so I guess I got my fishing passion from my Grandaddy. I hope I can keep the tradition going till I die. And.. When I die Id I like to go quietly in my sleep just like my Grandadddy did. Not... Yelling and screaming like everyone else in his car.
5;11 yes you are lucky & blessed! haha sound's weird to my wife but that's livin a dream to me!I want to move there and she want's to move to Caryzona(from Ohio) do the bros. have anymore fishin vids.? I've also seen the one from the houseboat, AWESOME!-tight line's!- Greg
@Buglemintoday When I was a kid in the late 50's, my dad & I used P&G (proctor & gamble?) soap which was the right consistency for cutting into little 1" squares and the catfish loved it.
