Thanks for watching!
My dad was a Mississippi River commercial fisherman. He used something called jump boxes. He put out a thousand hooks in no time. It was a simple, low sided square box, with notches cut on the top edges for the hooks. They had been used before I was born, and I am 70.
I set trot lines in my local river with a canoe and I put out 25 hooks. 4 different baits. Chicken liver, bluegill, live goldfish, nightcrawler. I done that all the way out. Let it soak for 4 hours. When I went back to check it, I caught 25 nice catfish. I kept 2 and released the rest. Had a blast doing it and I never done it again afterward. I've set jug lines in my mamaw's farm pond. Caught 2 huge channel cats that looked identical. One weighed 22lbs the other weighed 23lbs. Released em both.
I like your Bailey Bridge Boat! Great to see these on the water and not many people know what potential or the work horse this boat is.
would like to see how you retrive and load the system
For those of you that posted about wondering how he was removing the hook from the fishes mouth so fast you can see the tool on the floor of the boat at 3:03. I make them out of a long screwdriver. Grind the tip to a smooth blunt point then heat it up and bend it into a hook. Hook the tool into the fish hooks bend, turn it upside down then let the weight of the fish pull the hook out. If you get this right, you'll never want to use anything else.
Hey..make a video please and show us how to make and use..that would be awesome
@@Dishtech48 if you dont have access to a shop, you could buy one for a buck or two. Its a type of hook remover and a great tool to unhook fish quickly.
@@samsadowitz1724 Yes,I have several I made in my shop..The reason,I asked about making a video..I didnt know at the time it was just a plain screw driver lookin item just bent into a small hook on bottom..I guess,I thought it was knotch in a couple places...after understanding how it works.. I felt really dumb..lol I do commercial fishing and alot of trout lines...and this thing has been so much help...but thanks.
We just use a good pair of needle-nose pliers roll the hook give it a shake hook out
I made those hook removers 50 years ago . And the first one that I made I still have . Magic .
Hey Ed, at the end of the video you said when it warms up you will catch a lot more fish. End of March? April? May? Very curious. When i caught mine it was June, July, August, first part of september
What I use and I'm pretty sure these fellas use something very similar is I use a brazing rod that's used in welding metals together with a torch, that way it'll never rust. I sharpened the end, made a small U in it and added a screw driver handle that works really well for me. Then I use circle hooks which allows for just about a straight out pull on the hook.
Ronnieinbama take pics I want to see
That idea is so simple it make Trot line more easy in my opinion .
That screw driver hook remover should be a product!
As I watch this man take the fish off the hook I thought maybe I could make one like his and see if I can do it as easy as he made it look... you think??? but my truck trans went out and had to junk it.. no mon no fun.. as my late mother use to say...
It is. its called a catfish flipper. been sold in bait shops her in Louisiana for years. works great once you get the hang of it.
Billy Carmen .. not a screwdriver , its a real thing used by mostly commercial pin hookers all over the US
Its also a common sight if you do any saltwater fishing. Its a great way to unhook a fish without putting your hands on the fish.
All that catfish is plenty of good eating and would have me on that lake daily looking to fill the freezer and be eating all year long. I love that invention and it seem to work just fine for that kind of fishing.
I would like to see you load the line in the cylinder
rick eggers - me too.. i am a commercial fisherman and this is genius- pure genius... my grandpa started me on buffalo lines and til this day ive never seen another person use buffalo lines the way we do.. im pretty sure its a very old technique.. but this, this is amazing! save me from paying help
I've done the same thing with a 5 gal bucket!
thats my set up too... 5 gal bucket
Never saw it put back into the tube...betting it came out much easier than going back in. Would not be ideal for live bait. . . but, great system and nice video.
that is pretty dang slick.
Never could find out where to look at it or but it!
One problem with this rig, when setting in shallow water the line would get snagged on the bottom unless tension is kept on the line. This rig lets the line come out freely.
Ive been told to take a drum and cook it in the oven on top of a pine 2X4, and when it's through cooking, throw the fish away and eat the board. BUT, my brother in law says they are great so I tried one, it tasted like fish, but it was awful once it got cold, and heating it back up didn't help. As long as you eat it fresh it's ok.
my favorite fishing hole... easy easy easy catfishing there
I drowned once while setting trot lines. My friend saved me. A hook got me and pulled me off the boat. I sank to the bottom and had no knife to cut loose from the line. My friend jumped in the water, cut me loose and put me back in the boat. I regained consciousness while he was squeezing the water out of my lungs.
I always carry a knife, now.
Thomopolus Rex I always carry a knife with me while around any water for that purpose even just swimming in a lake
@@jimarnold565
Wise move, my friend.
Wow! Lucky you
That makes me want to carry a knife that I can grab easily. I've been considering doing so pretty much all the time anyway, but this makes up my mind. Never had anything against one, I just don't like wearing belts, watches, anything constrictive.
Heck of a fishing story. Been in a few situations myself.
very nice. my m.o. is too first stock the freezer, than go out with rod and reel and it's hard to beat catfish on the dinner table. yum-yum. nice vid,,,rr
Do you sell the tubes shown for setting the trout lines
Yes that sounds good where you fishing but you try that in the north Sea and major problem with an old dogfish wrapping itself around the line so I find the best is a tret line of up to 12 hooks.
As a retired longline swordfisherman, who used to put 20 miles of line out with 500 hooks, what your doing is just on a MUCH MUCH smaller scale.
Dave Metz I do it commercially in freshwater with 300 to 500 hooks per line....10 to 12 lines every time I fish. Usually 3,000 to 5,000 hooks to pickup. I love it, this guy is doing pretty well. For a guy that doesn’t know or do it for a living he came up with good ideas
No I'm sorry but what you demonstrated was people taking fish off of a trotline.
There was no video of how exactly this thing works nor any video of it being loaded after they took off the fish.
Gecxid Rureel what dID you expect from commercial GREED.
OM SURE IF HE DOSCOVERED A WAY TO CATCH EVERY FISH IN THE ROVER, he would not leave one left behind.
Teach a man to fish...
Show him a video of your super fish catching gadget and pics of fish...sell gadget.
It's not rocket science. They don't show stowing the line because its a pita. They made a false claim saying that its easy.
Man you need to come to the rivers here Missouri.
I am guessing Ed White is out of business now? I have tried to call but both numbers are wrong..
Very cool and hit me up if you need a review done on this great trot line holder
What is that machine called and how much it cost.
Id like to have info on how to purchase. And more info on actual use.
COOL STUFF 10 OUT OF 10
Was wondering if you could tell me who manufactured the first boat that they filmed in... the one where they set the lines from?
Many thanks and happy new year 🎊
well its 3 years later so I"ll tell ya. it a Baileys Bridge boat. U S Army used them to build a pontoon bridge.
By the looks of I might use a 4" thick piece of PVC to spiral the line onto. As I come to a hook Id just leave it dangling then once the line is fully spiraled Id put the 4" PVC pipe with all the line and hooks dangling into a 6" PVC tube with a slit cut all the way down it for the hooks to hang out of. Then as the hooks are dangling Id slide the 4" PVC out from the line. Kind of like spaghetti on a fork. Just a thought of how they made it.
I'm gonna have to make one of those! A PVC pipe and a 2x4 should work! I wanna know how he was getting those off the hook so fast! And drum barely have any meat on em. They're solid bone, and the little meat they have doesnt taste very good
Cant help but notice they didnt show the 5 minute retrieval wonder why. Noticed how some of them fish where tangled if you had snap on on it it wouldnt have been so tangled
my uncle made a box like that 40+ years ago Pickwick tn
Does this guy sell these rigs
I am more interested in the hook you use to get fish off the line
I would use circle hook so it’s Easier to unhook the fish
Loved video
Was this fishing trip in early fall or early spring? I generally don't catch many catfish during the winter in cooler water temps.
They said they were fishing during winter. If you're not catching fish during the winter you are most likely in the wrong area because winter is probably the best time to catch trophy blue catfish
Nice bolt and i like catfish
VERY COOL THANKS FOR SHARING
WOW NICE!!!
Is that genuine Fish Camo?
Like your weights all from the rail road.
I grew up in the Tennessee river. We ate lots of bream, bass and cat fish.I've even eaten gar, which is pretty good. I was always told that the drum were not fit to eat. I've eaten red and black drum, which are salt water fish. Can anybody tell me why fresh water drum arent eaten very much?
In Texas we can only have twice the limit in freezer. Witch where I live is 50 fish
Ever heard of a jumper box
So, where can I buy one of these?
@flamedrag I'm with you its cool for sure but you got the schematics all laid out like a ten pound bass !
I really don't like these productions with the music in the background much less blaring between dialogue. Other than that, well done.
i like your invention but i dont think it would work with bluegill
What are they using to remove the hook so quickly, or are they just ripping it out? I hate to rip it out of a fish I intend to trow back, I prefer to remove it with as little damage as possible.
It’s called a de-hooker literally take cold roll steal and put a little hook in it on one end and a handle on the other. You run the dehooker down the line to the hook apply pressure. It pushes the lip of fish back past the barb and the dehooker fills that space between the barb and fish allowing it to come off.
there is no info on how much it cost
I am looking for about your product place lace me a message . When I post this, I am looking for more information no this .
I seen your video how you set that up I'd like to know how you built that fan how you put that together or you can pull the hook that all-night quick cuz I like to try some only one doing it I like that idea how you did get get back to me soon as possible take care of yourself and be safe out there and I hope you have fun fishing
@NONNIE357 huh? I don't get what your saying? I didn't specify the length because you may need a longer or shorter tube since some states have different trotline length laws, no point in having a large tube when it's not necessary but it's also good to have a large one when necessary, so I can't just throw out a length and expect it to be universal,. I also forgot to mention to use a smaller PVC pipe(1/8" or smaller), metal rod or a grooved piece of wood to hold the baited hooks.
I eat during winter also
this is still such a great video 👀👀👀👀👀
Hello, I've seen that when they do trotelining on the beach, they tend to lie the hook and bait on the sand. But here, you are floating the line so that the hook and bait are nearer the surface. What difference does this make, and is it important?
COUNT ME IN !!!
Where can I get one of the tunes
It would be nice if we could Bass fish like this... Bass are so much better eating than catfish...
Sorry, I enjoy using a rod and give the fish a sporting chance. Although, my brother would like this. He also uses his shotgun to dove hunt. I suggested he use his 22 LR.
It is only legal to dove hunt with a shotgun. If you (or he) were to use a .22 lr you would be breaking the law and also putting people in danger. Please don't do that or suggest doing that to anyone else. Thanks!
KYAfield what if they were .22 shotshell loads
@@jakehanneman6956 rat shot is only effective out to about 5 yards , doves fly higher than that, you truly don't understand what you're talking about.
This is not new. Back in the 70's me and my dad ran trotlines all the time. We just used a cardboard box, works the same. Notice how they didn't show the retrieval, now that's work. Kind of like packing parachute lines. I will say I think bottle or float fishing and limb lines should be outlawed.
around 4:20 you took a carp would it not have been better to keep it for the garden, than let it breed.
It was a drum
I do this commercially and those tubes are garbage. Take a 1”x2”x 1 to 1.5 feet piece of wood and get 4 more just like it and make a square, now we have what’s called a tray. Cut little slits on the top outside edge of the square on all 4 sides. On the bottom add a piece of plywood to cover it. No you just feed your line into the box and when you get to a drop with a hook place the drop into the slit. You can also add tray on top of each other to create what we call a box. A box is capable of having 500 hooks on average. Obviously you can make them however you want but that is typically the most you’ll see. Our boxes are handmade, our lines our handmade and over 1500 feet long. Our boats are also handmade just for what we do. We literally have to call the game department and have the warden come out to make sure the boat floats before they will register it bcz it’s all registered homemade.
How about some pics of what you have!!
We use to run between 100 to 300 hooks a day on Bush hooks and trot lines. Ant no problem to come in with 100 or 200 pounds of fish.
Same here.
THATS JUST SILLY THROWING DRUM BACK!
I wish they had that 25 years ago when I ran trout lines
Lol he must be trotlining for minnows . Don’t you have to tie both ends to a bank? I catch large yellows on my trot lines they would drag this off
Damn, your just like Google, you want to damn much personal info to just get a frig'en price! As the fish said, "Sorry Charlie"???
@flamedrag18 just my figure of speech ! I always seem to lose people my bad . just meant that you defined the way it was made ! get it the schematics or plans laid out like a ten pound bass ! Hhaahhaha ! Cool
Yeppers , wear camo so the fish are oblivious to the hooks.....🤪
can u make a video on how yall made this cause wen i set them out by my self i have tangles in evry inch of my line then i have to bait them last after i put the trout line out
Nick Vandiver I roll my line onto a electrical cord reel no tangles an use trotline clips on all staygens an weights string your line out between the stumps or jugs your Tying to an ease back down it clipping baited hooks and weights as needed an done all alone no tangles can have multiple lines reeled up just half hitch ends together an roll the next line on
No slot limits...seems to me you are over fishing and ruining it for others
for 200 hooks that wasn't alot of fish
Agreed.
They would of had better luck in two hours with fifty jugs floating around
@@johncuervo3019 you'd never match that with 50 jugs speed wise.50 jugs are a lot of bait, sit and chasin I do it all the time.this is kinda apples to oranges.
Trotlines are my favorite way to catch pan size catfish, but nothing replaces noodling for catching those monster flatheads 😏
I love a single drop limb line baited with a 4" bream for the big flatties. Nothing like pulling up and seeing that limb getting pulled under water!
Lol I'd prefer a rod and 7000 C3
The trick to the hook remover is not making one, it is trying to explain how to use it. For something so simple most people can't learn with one on one instructions. Ole commercial fishing trick thought to me by an old commercial fisherman.
"What a fee-lay you'll get offa him!"
Yea dude was gay
Lol cray Timothy Far meer
Now thats cool as i jug fish as well as i troutline to
FatBoy Dan Here
These commercial guys are hated here in va. They have ruined the trophy fishery we used to have here. Keep all the small fish u want but those big fish should go back.
Richard Mills you got it backwards.. Keep the big ones and throw the little ones back
KY is having the same problem people selling the big cats to pay lakes, and keeping them instead of leaving them to breed. They will end up killing the catfishing all together.
Richard Mills maybe you guys should convince people to stop eating catfish
Probobly only legal in usa
Or you can lay it like i do in my awesome (actual professional) videos
Jake Phelps which video are you talking about is your video about crabs
Doesn't work well for live bait for those big blues or flatheads! It looks like your a little over the limit for the number of hooks allowed in Missouri!!!! 33 hooks per person and you had four lines with 50 hooks:(
Eric Van Eck they are obviously not in Missouri huh. They are in Kentucky.
Each state has different regulations Dipsh!t
The RealChilant Duh
The RealChilant They have Missouri tags on the boat if you looked.
Hes commercial
so illegal in AZ
+73orangething Man that sucks ... I'm glad its legal in Louisiana
Everything is illegal in az.Used to trap thousands of predators in az in the 70.s then along came city slickers outlawing them, now coyotes are coming out of their ears.Good enough for them.
Commercial fisherman suck.....
Johnny Parterlee Get Fucked
Only people passed at us commercial guys go to a job each day because they don't trust God to give them what they need. Or they just can't fish.
This was a waste of our time. We all clicked to learn something new. They showed a concept but zero detail of how we can implement the idea. They did a lot of talking about how it can be reset in 5 minutes with zero instructions of how to do it.
Ed gotta stop dying that hair
Cute but unless you plan to explain how this was made this is rather pointless.true enough we can grind out the r and d ourselves but be more effective to just explain what you made, how it was made, and how it basically functions.most of us that use trotlines are feeding families.we don't got time to hit the chalk board.we want the baby without the labor pains.
I love fishing,& i eat what i catch, but setting 200 to 400 hooks at one time is just too damn greedy, u boys couldnt get away with that here in n.c.,, the guys around here would cut your lines for sure..
That's not fishing sorry its cheating any fool could do this
Dude your editing sucks if you are trying to show off the "invention" you do not show the entire process, you do not give an explanation at all, no video even short of the line going in..
