do appreciate the good ole back to basics trotlines lol.as we continue to fish we tend to over engineer things to a point.i think it's just in our nature.and yes, some high end trotline tech has been brewed up in the occasional backyard but nothing really beats the classics.i mean, this was deployed without buckets, weights,or fancy trotline reels lol.love it.
hope you catch dinner man... wish i could be there to, but i'm going fishing sunday afternoon so that will do...Loafing... ain't nothing finer.... greetings from nc tim
I did manage to catch a few. The video is being uploaded. I had no need for them so I let them go but it was fun. Hope you catch a boat load on Sunday.
my only though here, only thing I might change,is the knot on the droppers.i have had those overhand knots slip in the past,so got in a habet of useing a double uni like you would if connecting a leader to mainline or mainline to backing line.i have yet to see those slip.yes,it take a little more time, yes it may be overkill in some circles, but in my area,if you trotlining it's common to pull in 50 pound plus catfish.so that little bit of added security is nice to have.but, the overhand knot is the most classic and traditional method and is to this day in main use for trotlines.so nothing done wrong here lol.this is how we been doing it for ages lol.i just tend to prefer knots that can't slip especially on a set up I intend to use over a long period of time.just a thought,it's by no means criticism or anything.if we as fisherman can't share knowlage than what's the point in us having a community? lol
I saw a guy who put the best catfish bait we have used for years but kept getting robbed, Chicken Livers, in a knot of pantie hoses. This way the flavor gives the catfish a trail to follow to the hook, but he can't rob it. He will keep trying to suck the liver off the hook until he gets hooked and put into your cooler. It sounds great so I am going to try it my next time out and since you have my first and middle name I thought I would share it.
pretty good, I like Stake and Lobster well your having Squirrel and Crayfish A La Catfish. sounds pretty good. You could almost make a Jumbolia out of your eats.
William try bare 3/0 Limerick hooks in choppy water looks like shad moving in the water with less trash fish to take the bait thanks great vid as always
question William...where does a man get that soap bait ? There are some references on the web about the shop in Seguin but I didn't see a way to purchase online. thanks
Saw Heah William, With soft bait like that or my Doughball I make and I catch Cats with it too, I think Cats like vanilla, maybe it's just tge alke in it heh heh heh, anyhow I mix in some cotton in to the mix, it seems to hold it together better and doesn't dissolve as easy.

When I was a kid there was a P&G soap almost like Ivory soap we used. Then there was a homemade lye soap
My dad would count the same way! Wrapping rope around palm to elbo... "2-4-6-8..." Hahah great video
Matthew Tarr 😂 it is a standard form of measuring....especially when that is all you got. Thanks!

Say Heah William, I always called it a Troutline, I'm learning all kinds of things, and here I thought I was perfect heh heh heh.
Growing up in the Colorado mountains, we called them Troutlines too! Now that I am a Kansas Faltlander, it's a trotline. :-)

Man, I haven't done hammock camping in about 10 years. Couldn't pay me to sleep on the ground.
Don't care for the ground either. Hammock is much more comfortable for me. Appreciate your view and comment.
