  • Beginner Knitting with Marly Bird and Marly's Mom Lesson 2. It's time for Marly's Mom to learn to Purl, to knit Stockinette, to learn to read her knitting, and to learn to Bind Off Knitwise and Purlwise!
After watching Lesson 1 and the In Between Lessons, Lesson, you will be able to notice that Marly's Mom is getting more comfortable with her knitting. She is starting to crack jokes and really understand what she is doing.
This is incredibly encouraging to Marly and all hopefully to all of you as well.
Please remember, these lessons are to be watched as a class. You are supposed to work along with Marly as she teaches her mom to how to knit and everything else that comes with that. If you are looking for quick instructions--these lessons are not what you want.
    Purl
*Remember: this is a CLASS video series and should be viewed as such. If you are looking for down and dirty how to knitting instructions, this series of videos are not what you want. For those, you will want to check out the Quick How To Knit videos here on the channel (coming soon).
    Books Marly Promised to Mention:
Knitting for Dummies 3rd Edition: amzn.to/1VwQ1iU
Stitch n Bitch: The Knitters Handbook: amzn.to/1UzvpqS
    The Knitting Answer Book: amzn.to/1UzvCdz
If you need Lesson #1: • Beginner Knitting with...
If you need Lesson #3 Changing Colors: • Beginner Knitting with...
...yes there will be future lessons. As Marly's mom advances her knitting she will need more instruction and the cameras will be there to capture it all on film.

I’m learning how to knit. Took a Michael’s class with you teaching recently and now I’m knitting and purling. Watched several others explain things but then they go into other details that overwhelms me with tmi. Throws me off. I appreciate your sticking to one subject at a time, giving us just enough to know why and how this happened without going down a rabbit hole. I keep finding myself coming back to your tutorials. Thank you!

I watched about 8 other videos and crated all kinds of messy looking knots. I have been doing loo, knitting for about 2 years and decided to try it with the needles and was very disappointed until now. I was so happy when I came across your video, now I am knitting with needles. Thanks to you and you Mom

I'm watching this a few years after it was posted (in the age of covid) as someone who already knows how to knit, but want to learn how to teach others in a clear and easy way. I think it's soothing for beginners to listen to someone also learning, especially in this era of covid where you aren't able to sit in physical class.

Madly, I learned to “knit” 40 years ago. A friend of my grandmother’s taught me how to make mittens! I learned knit and purl, ribbing, stockinet Stitch and increasing all at the same time... It wasn’t until Harry Potter came along that I learned to use circular needles... but as I grew older and watched other knitters, I realized that although my projects all turned out right, I had developed my own version of knit and purl. Your videos are teaching me the right way to do everything....like Long tail cast on, and even yarn over which always confused me. Thank you for explaining everything so thoroughly,

Thank you sooo much Marly & Marly's mom. I have tried and tried to knit. I have not only threw the needles across the room, I have thrown the last ones out the window while traveling. That was the last time trying which was about 15 yrs ago. I have been crocheting for 40 yrs. I made this swatch today and got so excited I have taken photos to show my sister who knows how ackward I feel trying to knit. So a very huge thanks to the both of you. Happy knitting to the both of you.

I have been knitting for many years as taught by my mother. When I tried to make the crescent shawl I kept running into trouble so I decided to review your lessons from the beginning.
I am left handed and my mother was right handed. I now realize that although I produced a knit and a pearl stitch I was not doing it correctly. When I tried to KFB it kept coming out wrong.
The pace of your lessons are wonderful. I can really see how to place my yarn.

Marly, thank you thank you thank you for making these videos. I am an obsessed crocheter for over 20 years and for the last year I have been trying to learn how to knit because I love the look of knit! I just couldn't grasp it. I would get so frustrated because I felt I was doing it wrong. Holding the needles felt awkward and the stitches seemed loose which is totally not how they are in crocheting. After watching your videos, I finally got it! You are such an awesome instructor. I also learned how to do planned pooling finally by your videos (which led me to finding your knitting videos. So, if I haven't said it enough already....THANK YOU!

I was actually watching the 3D braid you were teaching and came across the learn to knit sessions. You are hilarious. Keep up the good work. I would love to learn how to continental stitch. It is just to fiddley for me. I’ve been trying though. I always thought you knitted from the back of the knit stitch not the front. Is there something wrong with doing that way?

Yes, they are acrylic and I got them at Michaels I think. I don't really recommend them as they REALLY stick to the yarn and make it difficult to move the stitches along but they are good for beginners who tend to drop their stitches.

I can appreciate your confusion. However, because I am trying hard to teach the importance of reading the stitches on the needle, saying 'Knit the Knits and Purl the Purls' requires the knitter to actually take a second to look at the knitting and read it.
I hope that make sense. You can always just ignore me and in your own head say 'Work the Stitches' :-) I won't be mad.
I hope you are doing well Debra and I can't wait to see what you knit!!! oxoxo

why is my last stitch always so loose?

+Amy Ramos because it doesn't have a stitch on both sides to hold it in shape. When you knit your first stitch of the next row, wiggle the stitch made and tug the yarn at the same time. That will snug up the stitch.

      Hi Susan,
I understand you consent and that is I why I also knit along with her. Her involvement is supposed to show the viewer that their struggles are not only theirs.
I do have to ask, did you watch video 1, or 1.5? Did you knit along with us?

You two look more like sisters. Your Mom does not look old enough to have a grown daughter!
