    The reason why The Ultimate Warrior was chosen to wrestle Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania VI was *because* he was a huge draw in terms of merchandise and gate numbers. They even had he and Hogan tour separately because Warrior was over enough to headline shows himself.
    I keep hearing all this nonsense about how the Warrior didn't draw as champion. I don't buy that. Warrior wasn't MORE over than Hogan as champion, but he was at the very least AS over as Hogan from 1989-1991 as both Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion and World Heavyweight Champion.
    The Warrior was a lot like Brock Lesnar. Wrestling was not his passion, but his job and he took his job seriously. He punched a clock and people took exception to that. Wrestlers were jealous of the money he was making and the fact that he did it HIS way instead of the "traditional" way and if the Warrior was not a draw than there is no way Vince would have paid him as much money as he did.
    According to Allen Coage (Bad News Brown) Warrior asked him how much money should he tell Vince to pay him for his WMVI match with Hogan. Allen said "Ask for 1 million. Hogan is getting 1 million, and he can't wrestle himself. The worst thing he can do is say no." So Warrior asked for 1 million, and he got it. Again, Vince doesn't give money out if he doesn't see a return on his investment.
    He only had one meaningful feud as champion too BTW. His feud with Rick Rude in the summer of '90 was old news. We had already seen that and Rude was gone just a few short months later anyway. His feud with Savage was gold and stole the show at Wrestlemania VII. They did strip him of the belt because he wasn't a draw. They stripped him of the belt because Hogan was all done in Hollywood making another bad movie and wanted "his" title back. So they made an excuse to get the belt off of Warrior. Of course he didn't care which probably further pissed them off. He was about doing his job, and making that money.

      D2K: Fucking awesome bro! Not JUST because I agree with your personal positive feelings about the warrior because that's secondary to the truth no matter what! It's awesome because your just TELLING THE TRUTH!!!!! It's all out there & easy to find if your interested in truth! Yes I love the warrior but I'd never say he, or anybody including MYSELF, is right all the time just because I like them. My world don't work that way, but on the matters you touched on you are right & HE was in the right! Damn a lil long winded sorry bro haha just enjoyed seeing the truth for once!!

      Spot on. For me as a kid something about warrior was special. To me he was not Brock but more Goldberg. His entrance made you pumped for the match and even if it was shit from an Indy template the finish was always full of energy. Hogan was never that guy for me and with a lot of other kids they loved warriors attitude and look coming out the gate. As kids that's how we judge and only thing hogan ever did for me was think that I could reach a point of being beat down so bad that I would snap and hulk up and run shit. Good times

      Hugh Mills It’s a matter of opinion but actually you are correct. I completely forgot about that one. I admit I grew up more of a NWA/WCW fan, One of my best friends growing up love WWF but it was weird because we live in North Carolina and it’s the 80s and he didn’t care to watch WCW at all lol but in hand I did watch some WWF here and there in the late 80’s glad I didn’t stop watching WWF until Ric Flair went there. I admit that era of WWF isn’t one of my strong points When it comes to remembering matches. But you are correct, well I agree with your opinion I should say. I put his match with Savage at number one then the Hogan match at WM 6 at number 2.

    The thing about the whole SummerSlam '91 Warrior situation is that there are three sides to the story Vince's recollection, Warrior's recollection and the truth which is somewhere between the two.
    There are probably some kernels of truth to each side of the story because they are based on truth but the overall truth is lost between the two because of personal feelings on both sides getting in the way.

    The "Warrior", Jim Hellwig seems like the type of guy that is constantly angry with everyone & everything in the world, he probably thinks the world has gone mad, i wonder if the cold light of day has hit him yet & he suddenly realizes that it isn't the world & the people in it thats crazy, but rather himself - The "Warrior" Jim Hellwig, i mean you would have to be pretty whacked out to call yourself "Warrior" 24/7, it seems like he never could leave the day job where it belonged. On a side note though, it is LONG overdue that Randy Savage should be in the WWE HOF, cmon Vince, wake up, induct him already

    I've heard Randy wanted his family inducted as well as himself, according to his brother. I don't think the rest of his family is worthy of the HOF, neither is Koko B. Ware, but anyway if that's what happens to be done…Vince should just do it BUT Randy should be the centerpiece of inducting the family. Maybe even doing a double one where he invites the Poffo Family and also Randy Savage alone. Something can be done.

I can't remember if it was Funk, Raven, or Bischoff who said that while they WWE doesn't care about what people think, they didn't like them because those DVD's and WWE Confidential pieces would come back to haunt them down the road. WCW got four burials, Stone Cold got buried, Ultimate Destruction they pretty much blew their was on his career and the fans that loved him, and lets not forget the DVD that was planned for Bret had he not stepped in (Screwed the Bret Hart story).

    It's not like the WWF helped their cause much in making Warrior's title run successful. The only significant feud I remember them booking for him during that time was against Rick Rude. Hogan got Piper, Bundy, Andre, and Savage during his golden run. Some of the most iconic names in the history of the business. Warrior got Rude who was a great talent, but was never perceived by the fans as a top heel. Wrestling title runs are only as good as the booking. There were lots of guys on the roster they could've built some cool storylines around. Warrior vs. Mr. Perfect would've been huge. They could've had Warrior/Earthquake after Quake demolished Hogan. Warrior/Savage for the belt at WM7, then Warrior could've transitioned right into his feud with the Undertaker as champ. So many missed opportunities. His title run was forgettable because they didn't book anything worth remembering.

    I wonder if the truth still lies somewhere in the middle. Yes, this proves Vince is lying when he pretends like he was blindsided, but it doesn't mean that Warrior didn't hold him up for more money on the day of Summerslam. Could easily see Warrior finding out he was being paid less than Hogan for that show, getting into an argument with Vince and demanding he get the same pay for the show, Vince having to do it because he was over a barrel, and then firing him right after.

      No vince agreed 6 weeks before summerslam to the new contact, he had no intention of honoring the new contract and simply waited until after summerslam to suspend warrior, mcmahon even stated in the suspension letter to warrior that he would not honor the new terms of the contract after the 90 day suspension was over. usatthebiglead.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/4-jwgoy2y.jpg?w=1000&h=1294

    The speech at Solomonster's college was a disturbing, bizarre hilarious story. How does Warrior's ability to throw a college student through a table prove he didn't use steroids? But sometimes the showmanship needs to end, and we have to take some of life's situations more seriously. The Warrior wrote a really negative article about Curt Hennig right after Hennig died. It may have been Hennig's own decision to use drugs that led to his death, but it's disrespectful to the family and friends of a deceased loved one to say that kind of stuff in public.

    As you read more about "the business" everyone was a scumbag and out for themselves. By far without a shadow of a doubt the biggest scumbag of all and the one who will never have to worry about money is Vince. So reading people all butthurt about how 'he held Vince up' is hilarious..awww that poor guy. Are you hurt that he did that to poor ole honest Vince?
    He treated stasr who made him money like shit so there's no telling how he treated the countless low mid card glorified jobbers though the years. He encouraged and made worse the steroid drug culture of 80's and does have a hand in early deaths. Harrassed women, abused power & coerced sex, cheated on family pretty much right in front of them, etc ,etc. This is just the type of stuff from courts filings and eyewitness accounts, a reputation he has always had. Who knows about all the other even darker shit that gets floated around. But that one day the UW got a few extra dollars from him. Cry me a river.
    HBK #1 then UW are prob my two all time favs. I'd say HBK was probably more of a POS then UW. In the end I kind of respect UW more. Almost everyone was used up by Vince and "the business" and that was just always the way it was. He looked out for himself and got his. No early death or fighting through crippling injuries to perform in his late 30's and 40's.
    I also dont care what a pos HBK was and can rationalize that. He put on the greatest show and matches for everyone. He was awesome in the Rockers. Ever since he threw Jannety through the Barber Shop window he was always in interesting stories, capturing the fans imaginations and entertaining the masses like few in the company. He is one of the best and he is a pos just like most of the other top and even mediocre guys. So I don't seethe big deal about any of it. All time scumbags Vince and Hogan are above UW, HBK, Kliq by far. But no use crying about that either. Vince made it all and Hogan entertained everyone at one point.

    You people are seriously messed up running James Helwig in to the dirt with a self satisfied smirk sickens me, three seconds in I could tell the direction this would go in. JH should have rightfully broken the Hulk Hogan monopoly and choke hold on the business to allow development of the industry and fresh ideas. What you are doing is trashing the notion of independence because you don't think for your selves. JH took the fall for the whole industry, all wrestlers took steroids back then and probably still do but he was maliciously slandered and humiliated for years without any real reason except Hogan and V M (two sick people by the way) felt threatened by him. I think deep down you know that constantly kicking a guy when he is down is the sign off the worst kind of coward, to take his career, name and memory apart like this is disgusting. Imagine what his family think of this, shame on you.

    From a legal standpoint, Vince would not have had to honor Warrior's demands based on what has been told about this incident. There is a rule in contract law called the 'Pre-Existing Duty' rule. It means that one side cannot demand more from an existing contract without promising something that had not previously been agreed too. So, if the Warrior was already contracted to perform at Summer Slam (and had his merch agreement, etc.), he cannot enforce a promise of more stuff from the same contract without giving Vince something in return (which would make it a new contract). Even if Vince had agreed to pay him more and give him more perks on an existing deal, he could still stiff the Warrior on it unless the Warrior agreed to new terms as well because they already had a contract in place. It would be like Tom Brady having a contract in place but then right before a playoff game telling the Pats he wouldn't play unless they guaranteed him an extra million. The Pats could agree and then tell him to fuck off when he tries to collect.

    In the letter Vince sent to Warrior on 8/26/91, notifying him of his suspension, he explicitly states that Jim threatened to no-show SummerSlam. If it never happened, he wouldn't have put it in the memorandum.

  • @OneUltimateWarrior
    @OneUltimateWarrior 7 лет назад

    It was a lie about the timing, but WWE was telling the truth about Warrior holding up the WWF for money (The half a million was his Wrestlemania VII pay day that they lowballed him on) or else he wouldn't work SummerSlam 1991.

  • @peteywarren0829
    @peteywarren0829 10 лет назад

    I liked this clip, but I have to say that in no way does this letter prove Vince is lying. Vince's claim was that Warrior came up to him the night of the show and demanded more money or he wouldn't perform. Vince never said they had not negotiated other things prior to the show.

    Ultimate Warrior was one of the most over-hyped boring wrestler after he ran out to the ring and used up his energy shaking the ropes, and his music was only so so compared to the likes of Gangrels music and a few others etc. Warrior sounded like a complete idiot with his interview shoots as well.
