    About a year ago, I decluttered the "everyday" dishes that were looking shabby and put our wedding china in the kitchen cabinet to use every day. Meals feel more special now. No problems from putting it in the dishwasher. If we break a piece, it really doesn't matter because unfortunately, china is no longer valuable as it once was. Shannon, your channel has become my favorite minimalism/home channel!!

    It amazes me that you always find more things to declutter.
    You'll be proud of me; my adult daughter was in town this past week. We went through my storage closet and eliminated 6 boxes of stuff. She took a couple boxes of her books, childhood, high school and college. She took the globe from when she was 10 and some other memorabilia. We found 3 boxes of stuff to donate and a bag of trash. We went through the cupboard of mugs and glasses and downsized by half. She dropped off the boxes of donations on her way out of town. Yeah!

    My most recent thing was rethinking my chatzkie curio. I got rid of some of the stuff that wasn’t particularly special. Also got rid a lot of other household things that just didn’t work out. I seem to have a harder time with things that don’t work out….at least at first. I feel like I need to try and “get my money’s worth” before I let it go. Then I get irked with it and finally toss it either to charity or recycle or trash. Lol. Crazy. I know.

    Hi Shannon, thank you for kick starting my day!!! Just wanted to suggest...with towels that don't absorb...sometimes cottons and other fibres have a film on them from production (like a sizing) when new. If you hot wash them in laundry detergent and borax, (don't use fabric softene because its oil based), you might find they absorb better. Had happened to me a few times. A few washes later and they are fine😊. Much love.

    I have been following you for quite awhile and decluttering for a future move. Well the future is sooner than we had thought and we will be moving into a much smaller home very shortly. Luckily decluttering has helped us a lot. My biggest hurdles are my books and quilting supplies. When you have room, it seems fine to keep things that you will use ‘some day’. Our new place will have a small sewing room half the size of what I now have. And I won’t have room for my 350 books either. So time to use those decluttering muscles and aggressively downsize my collections.

    • @quickflip7185
      @quickflip7185 11 месяцев назад +3

      A few years ago I downsized dramatically. It forced me to really think about what I actually use/need vs what I like. One example is I went from a plethora of kitchen pots, pans, gadgets, to what I actually use. I just don't have the cabinet space I used to. And I don't miss a thing! Good luck with your move. 🙂

    Loved this! I can relate to all of it. Before we moved in 2016, I had to go thru yrs of the kids craft & homeschool supplies. Today, I'm going thru their school papers that I had "deemed sentimental" ...both kids from preschool-HS graduation! That's a LOT of trash bags. When you save everything thinking that it is ALL of value, nothing shows value.
    Shannon, you are being wise now; you won't be age 50 doing this type of nostalgic minimizing lol
    Yes to ditching the manuals; I have even stopped saving new ones for most part. Yes to no dramatic plants!!
    I had just bought a new backpack purse and honestly, dumped the contents of my current unloved one out on the way home and donated it on the way home. No more saving tht extra purse for just in case.
    Every day I get happier to be free of so many physical items. The calendars and kid books are another bin in the garage. Kathy has a great idea about the calendars.
    If you came into our house, you would see a peaceful minimal space these days, all spurred on by moving when our oldest 🎓 graduated.
    Happy Wednesday to you & yours!! It's 100 degrees F here again today🌞☀️🌡
