Rooting and TWRP tutorial - Samsung Galaxy S7 on Android Oreo

- Hi everybody, in this video I'll show you how to root and install a custom recovery on the International version of the Samsung Galaxy S7 (so the G930F). This method works for other S7 variants as well (just make sure you download the correct TWRP tar file). Also , it works on any version of Android 8.0 Oreo.

That step where you had to press vol up, home, and power buttons simultaneously and pressing start for Odin was quite challenging 👀 to say the least. Again, tons of THANKS!

I do not quite get it. In download mode I should press start while vol up+start+power are pressed or I press vol up+start+power and the release those and the press start in odin? This part is confusing.
Worked like a charm. Rooted a T-Mobile G930F model, didn't have any issues during installation. If it gives mounting errors during wipe, don't worry about it, just ignore and continue the steps. Thank you!
EDIT: KNOX wasn't tripped either!
I managed to brick my phone the same day with the substratum theme engine (never use it with this phone)
But I followed this guide to reinstall the stock ROM successfully:

However this WILL trip your KNOX.

Hi Mike...followed your excellent tutorial and everything went ok. However when I enter twrp seems the data folder is still encrypted and I cant do a proper nandroid backup. I get the following errors in twrp ....
Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer.
Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
Unable to recreate /data/media folder.
Updating partition details...
Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
...done
Unable to mount storage
Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
Full SELinux support is present
Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps
I found some ideas how to fix this problem...but wanted to see your suggestion on how to fix this problem. One suggestion is to format the data folder. Another suggestion is to change file format to a different format then back to original format.
I really dont want to re-install everything again. So any help that results in fixing the problem without messing up what I have now would be great. fyi....I do have titanium backup.

Any root method for the latest update of oreo which is baseband J3 cause I can't downgrade back to nougat am getting errors when I try to...am using s7 sm-g930v

ok so I got to the point where you aid once you have install the maisk zip file you can rboot into system and instal the magisk apk file as well, but now it just says Samsung, than installing applications .. how to do install the magisk apk file???

I can't get past using Odin. You instructions are easy and clear, but I repeatedly get a "FAILED" message in a window at the top of the Odin program.

Worked like a dream on 930F (uk) . A dream where something unexpected happens just before you wake up. I have root and have been granting superuser permissions like a mofo. However I do not have OEM unlock available. It asks for pin, gives me pop up to enable oem and then the slider remains off. Any suggestions appreciated

If you want to do this without wiping, you can keep a backup before doing this using smart switch, then after restore from the backup. you are welcome who ever may be wondering
But smartswitch doesnt backup app data so its pointless
and if anything has set-device-owner, smart switch won't work at all. I hate that thing. I've switched to dr. fone just to avoid all the crap I get from smart switch. I mange almost a dozen devices and dr. fone is short and sweet. the only issue with getting a full backup is the same as anything else. if you want app data you gotta root it and to root, you should have a full backup, thus the catch 22.

I make everything 1:1 as in this video, but when i want to flash the latest Magisk file it always fail with "updater process ended with ERROR: 1 - Error installing zip file '/sdcard/magisk-v20.4.zip' and no other magisk file is working aswell.
Make sure you format data first. As long as you follow the steps in the video, it should definitely work just fine. :)

Just disable autoreboot in odin and then just reboot with pressing vol up home and power.

All US models of Samsung S7 have locked bootloaders which means a custom ROM can't be installed.
