Funny story about shooting 50cal in the air 🤣 I was in basic training at Ft.Benning, GA. And the day we were doing 50cal tripod training, we were given an ammo strip with 50 or so rounds. Waiting in line and hearing all the systems go off was just amazing. But they had alot of privates to get through in a short amount of time. So after an hour or so another 50. is delivered and me and some other privates are given the privilege to go help the DS's and carry it over there and with their help set it up. So after all is done I get to go first, DS shows us how to load it with my ammo strip and we are all huddled around. 👀👀👀👀👀 🤣 But anyways i get told to sit down and to go in bursts (DS said yell "DIE MF DIE MF DIE MF DIE!" 🤣😭 I'm serious 🤣) and to do this until my ammunition was depleted. So I sit down, get my thumbs in the triggers and we are on the top of a hill looking over a valley into some thick pine trees biggest I ever seen in my life. So DS said "Fwr" (fire when ready), and I'm looking at everyone's tracers going down range and they are shooting down towards the middle and bottom sections of the trees and range, they have some cars and tanks buried in the side of the range to shoot at, and I start shooting and these bullets are literally going going so far and so high over the tree line I'm watching the arch of the stream of tracers going over the trees by about 10-20ft. DS I guess finally turns around and 👀 and him and like 3 of them are all like "YOOOOOO PVT HOLD ON, CEASE FIRE!" As they are literally holding back so much laughter it started to make some of the other privates that were around start to wonder what was going on. They had to adjust the elevation on this thing for so long it seemed 🤣💯 but man it was one of the funniest/coolest moments I have ever gotten to experience. But that's my 50.cal story! And the MGS4 reference was top notch 🤌 that game was first experience with the A2 and wanted one ever since. That thing shoots through like 15 enemy's at once if you can get them to line up right 💯👀.
This story made me smile
“Check the elevation.”

Spent over a decade as airframe in the army. I've said it a million times, this is the type of application bullpups should be used for. Larger calibers, out of longer barrels, giving you more mobility than a nonbullpupped counterpart. There's issues within bullpups that are just ever-present, but bullpup rifles in larger calibers is the most practical application for the concept, well logically atleast. It's still a good few generations away from being a perfect concept. If this went past the prototype stage, we'd likely see quite a few variants or other companies designing off the pattern being used for more forward based snipers (I guess is the best way to word it), or whatever else you could dream up.
The triggers are what turn me away from bullpups. Once you start running lighter triggers it really sucks to go backwards.
I wish I could get my hands on a Walther WA2000, or a clone of one
I don't see much practical application for bullpups at all. If you're that worried about mobility, you are likely in a situation where longer reloads can be a major issue. It would basically have to be something that either uses large drum mags or belts, and I'm not sure that would offer any real benefit anyway.
@@internetcatfish the point of bullpups (imo) is to bring larger calibers into more compact packages. Makes toting things like this around more plausible. Before was just an example on how you could throw a few guys on the front lines with a few bullpups in something like a .338 Lapua or whatever to serve whatever purpose alongside your standard rifles
@@internetcatfish I think you overexaggerated bullup reload speed there. It sucks but it's not *that* horrible to the point of having to use "large drum mags" unless you're a literal hardcoded robot.

Saying the round dumped "like 3% of its energy" into that white claw would mean you think 34 white claws can stop a 50 round. Can you please demonstrate armor plating consisting of 34 white claws?
For science!
Honestly, 34 white claws should be enough to deflect it at the very least, who's willing to wear this white claw armor for science? 🤣

I saw this rifle in a magazine circa 1988. It was an article about upcoming 50BMG rifles to come. I wish I could remember the magazine. The picture was of a guy in full recoil. Wild looking for late 1980s.
The moment you compared the 50 AE to 50 BMG to people who aren't and are subscribed, I was shocked to find myself not a subscriber. Thanks for the humbling reminder Brandon! That issue has been rectified!

It does exactly what it's supposed to, shoulder-fire 50BMG at Minute-of-Helicopter from the standing position. The fact that they're not commercially available is a tragedy.
Someone get Elon Musk on this, stat.
Why? Do you need to kill occupants of a helicopter Mr Putin or are you a drug lord? Even if you are just a cretin, you need some treatment - see a doctor

I can confirm that the army still has one. It is in a museum on fort lee. All the 91F get to visit it and they have tons of sweet prototypes
Why didn't they adopt it. It seems way cheaper than anti Tank/helicopter rockets.
@@maxsteinlechner6085 I'd assume it's the lack of precision. It doesn't have any way to really track a moving object, so it is rendered pointless even if it's cheaper.
@@talon_xi165 also: what's the realistic application? For one, its effectiveness is doubtful: if you hit the helicopter, it won't go down, it likely won't be bothered at all, unless you hit in a very specific spot.
Then you also have to consider that someone has to carry this beast around. Why wouldn't you give that guy a machine gun, or if you really want to take down a helicopter, an RPG? There's just no point.
@@bavarianpotato you hit any part of a helicopter that isn't empty space, it's out of commission.
Machine gun? You know how heavy an M2 is? An RPG is unguided. It's not for helicopters.

Brandon really threw that "not uncommon" to protect the 50 BMG based on the "in common use" case law

I like how he tried to put it on us that we thought he'd fire it up into the air like that.... There's a reason we thought he'd do it.
Really though, he said "simulate" the recoil. I assumed he was going to fire a blank.
@@witiwap86 But a blank wouldn t have the same recoil as a normal rou nd,so there is no way to accurately and safely discover. But I expected him to fire a blank as well.
Okay if you're gonna call yourself that, you _need_ to get a WASR 10/63 with the aforementioned furniture.
I was in Laos, Air America. In a Chinook landing when I took a 50cal from a sniper. Took out both hydraulic systems and set us on fire. I have total respect for that round.
You mean you were never in Laos and Air America was never in Laos because officially we were never in Laos. Just like Nixon sending us into Cambodia it never officially actually happened. I knew a FAC pilot some years back who flew in southern Laos where there wasn't much action according to him. He had a bunch of super 8 film and I tried putting a documentary together with it but he totally flaked out on me. I couldn't imagine puttering around in a little Piper Cub or something similar while Viet Cong or North Vietnamese regulars took pot shots at you let alone a 50 caliber.
@@HowardLuken First, I was I Laos in the army. Civilian clothes and special ID. Even went into North Vietnam and that was a mistake, AA fire. With Air America in Cambodia, I took a round through the floor between my feet and missed my nuts by six inches. I flew into NVA camps, had a bar at L20A that we kept a guys head in a box, and other strange places. And the stories continue…….
While being interviewed for the Air America job, my interviewer said that I should talk to my wife about the possibility of being killed. I replied “My wife’s first husband was killed with Air America”. “I would think she would be hesitant about loosing two.” I replied “She’s ok with it” (now think about that for a minute) I was hired. He could use a blank round? Do those exist for .50 BMG?

Fun fact:
The Cubans also toyed with this concept.
The only differences: Russian .50 Cal, it comes with a scope mounted, it feeds from the top, it has an AR-platform-like Carryhandle,
*And theirs isn't a prototype.*
-Your local Cuban-American
I just looked up the Mambi and for some reason it reminds me of a miniature version of the bofors 40mm.
@@sirshotty7689 I can't say that WASN'T the intention of the Mambi Anti-Material Rifle.
I see a Picatinny (how tf do you spell that again?) rail on top, and it’s mean more for medium to close range fighting, so scopes shouldn’t be a problem. I guess it depends what you mean by scope mounted; is there a default scope that is interchange with a system like a Picatinny rail, or a scope that you just can’t take off?
Why is an AR-style carrying handle needed on that thing?
@@chasetoyama8184 You are probably looking at a MAMBI-3.
The MAMBI-1 (The Original MAMBI Anti-Helicopter design, the one I was talking about) had a scope that was just permanently affixed to it. The MAMBI-1 does not have a picatinny system and has no interchangeable scopes, the MAMBI-2 uses Dovetail mounts (What the old AK platform rifles used for their scopes), and the MAMBI-3 uses picatinny.
I assume the idea was to make it so it could be carried like a LMG while running, since the concept of running with it on the shoulder (like Brandon did) was not most likely not tested by the Cubans.
There's always something about the massive clunks of the charging handle on a M82 that doesn't even scream but calmly states "you are going to be fucking atomized."
