As a Hawaii native I must correct you. Those are not “Hawaiian” shirts. They’re Aloha* Shirts. Professionals and everyone else wears Aloha Shirts every Friday (Aloha Friday, casual Friday on the Mainland) in Hawaii at work along with blue jeans. Aloha shirts and Aloha Friday are an old Hawaiian tradition that spans many decades. Just thought I’d toss that out there.
As the great Ahoy once said,”Who cares about practicality when you’ve got a golden gun that shoots giant bullets”
Ong
Doesn't have to be practical, it's a fucking handheld .50 and I am GOING to use it
Clint Eastwood was actually correct about the .44 being the most powerful handgun in the world. It held that title for just 4 years.
If I had any faith in it not being shit, I'd love to see a remake with Callahan carrying an M500. Just, you know, for tradition's sake.
Ah the Model 29, beautiful revolver.
Fun fact, it's only sort of correct when he said it: when they started development it was the most powerful handgun round, during production the .454 Casull was taking off, as a wildcat load, so there was a more powerful handgun round, but no guns to shoot it, unless you want to do some surgery on a .45 long colt frame and risk blowing yourself up.
@@Dreadought To be also fair, Clint Eastwood played a cop on a manhunt, not some gun expert. It was the most powerful handgun cartridge he knew about. Obscure things or cartridges about to surface were not on his radar.
Muzzle loading black powder pistols are often bigger than .44 and black powder! Not so much a propellant more so a explosive.

My father, Alfred J Thompson, was actually the guy who designed the original prototype of the Desert Eagle. He was a mechanical engineer, an avid skeet shooter, president of the Minnetonka Game and Fish Club, and ironically had never been much of a pistol shooter. The only pistol he ever owned was a .22 revolver.
Three guys from a startup called "Magnum Research" were searching for a company to design their concept of a magnum caliber semi-auto pistol with interchangeable barrels. My dad was working at a company called "Mehl Engineering" and got the assignment even though he had never designed a gun before. His experience was designing things like Toro riding lawnmowers, a Tonka Toy truck, Litton Microwaves, etc.
When the prototype was eventually made, Don Mehl test fired the .357 into a log in their office. My dad brought it home to show my mom and I. I still have some photos of my dad holding it and some pre-launch brochures of the prototype being called just the "Eagle". They originally thought about calling it the "American Eagle" and it wasn't until they decided to have it manufactured in Israel by IMI that the name was changed to "Desert Eagle".
My father had been told by the owners of Magnum Research that he would be listed on the original patents as the designer and that he would be given a gun from the first production run - neither of which ever happened. It's disappointing that he never received any credit from Magnum Research for the original design of such a unique and iconic pistol.
Wow! This is an amazing story. Post those pictures somewhere!
You get a lawyer, prove that in court do he will be recognized.
@@jeanettewest I doubt that there is any evidence of what was said, so it would be impossible to prove. My dad died in 1984 and I would be surprised if any of the other people originally involved in the startup are still around.
Also, I am not trying to cause trouble. I just wanted to get his part of the history of the Desert Eagle out into the internet. I'm proud of what he accomplished. He was a good man and a good father.

As someone who was actually a young cop in the 80's I appreciate the Miami Vice vibes. I actually tried to purchase a Bren Ten (Not because of Miami Vice, but that didn't hurt) and lost a lot of money when Dornaus and Dixon went belly up. I ended up carrying a Detonics Scoremaster, and actually owned a Miami Classic shoulder rig. I sold the holster because I realized I needed two hands to reholster, I live in the desert so a jacket is only feasible about 2 or 3 months out of the year, if that, and it beat my ribs when I got in a foot pursuit. Anyway, this brings back memories, and I still have the Scoremaster, and the 'stache.
Thats awesome, did you have to re-enroll in police academy following the Miami Dade shootout? Or did they just make you take sunday classes on new doctrine
@@mftripz8445I actually was going through a firearms instructor course put on by the FBI right after that shootout. My instructor gave us a quick debrief on what happened. I don't want to take away from the bravery of the agents, but the FBI didn't really train their agents in vehicle stops. Most local agencies, that actually conduct a lot of stops and train for them would probably have handled things much differently. Actually, my dad and I recently got a deagle and it is the weirdest thing ever. After seeing it in csgo and other games like that, I expected it to be easier to handle and hold with just one hand. That thing is heavy as HELL and it kicks like a mule. It is definitely over kill, but a sick gun none the less.
what caliber did you get it in? I ask this question, is because I got the .44 Magnum variant, and despite the heavy kick it does have, it's actually pretty pleasant to shoot

@@Gameprojordan exactly!!! but to be fair though, I am planning on getting myself a S&W .460 Magnum (preferably one with the 5-inch barrel once available) for my 43rd birthday next year
The Desert Eagle only has 2 uses :
- As a mass
- As a braging tool in Shooting Ranges, that'll end up for sell after remembering that this is shit
I live in Canada, and since we aren’t allowed to carry any restricted weapons, including all handguns, I was in need of a bear defence rifle for when I was hiking, hunting, and fishing in the wilderness. So I bought a Chiappa Mare’s Leg chambered in .44 mag. However, the extra barrel length on that rifle makes the round feel like a .44 magnum magnum.

Living on a dictator's regime sucks, get rid of Justin T as soon as possible and reject the WEF.
@Afes Arak Extra weight will reduce recoil, extra barrel length will reduce muzzle flash.
@Afes Arak in pistols, yes usually. In rifles, not necessarily. A shorter barrel with heavy metal shrouds and other parts will be heavier than a longer barrel but shrouded with lighter metals or other light materials.

Iconic 80's firearms. The ones that stick out in my head are the LAR Grizzly, the Bren Ten, Coonan 357, HK94/MP5, Tec-9, and I seem to recall this weird plastic gun called a Glock starting to show up on shelves. Damn I feel old.

You must be thinking of the German Glock 7. It was actually made of porcelain, which made it invisible to airport metal detectors. It also cost more than you make in a month.
@@jonathanziebarth9663 the porcelain gun is a myth. Those porcelain guns still have metal parts in them to set off the detector; porcelain isn’t tough enough to contain the explosion of a cartridge going off.

Actually i'm very glad that you mentioned, that it feels weird to even point the disassembled part of a gun to something you didn't want to shoot. For me, it's the same feeling. But i think that's just proper gun training. It have to become a natural instinct.
I don't even own a gun and I felt that. Just being a couple times on the range with my dad tought me that instantly.
I'm pretty sure that it's the sensation of having a firearm grip in your hands, paired with the sensation of having your hand, wrist, and arm angled in a way that your brain says means a gun barrel should be pointed at you. My gut doesn't like the idea of pointing an AR lower at my face, even though I understand on an intellectual level that a field stripped lower receiver isn't even where the bullet lives, let alone something that's able to fire a bullet into me.
I can put that gun part on a table and stand so I'm in front of it, no problem, that doesn't feel like I'm in danger. But the moment my hand's on a firearm grip, it changes.
1:53This part of the video with the chorus of the song is perfect💯
I love how brandon is super on point about his finger positioning, fires then finger off trigger immediately. And never flashes the camera or any of his homies. Keep setting a good example while staying funny man
I was thinking about that too yeah, I’n the montage he NEVER pointed it at the camera
A few years ago, this one site that was selling 50AE mistyped their prices, so instead of like $1 a round, it came out to $0.10 a round. I immediately picked up like 20K rounds of it. That company honored the purchase. 15K rounds later, and it's the gun I shoot the best. Debating on CCW it.
Jesus Christ, you lucky bastard 😂
Holy shit, I wish I got that deal.
mad man!
Right now you could sell 1000 rounds and pay for your next tank or two of gas 🤣
ok but what company was it
Mentioning that the Deagle has a locking bolt made me think that it might be a good idea to make a video explaining the difference between different gun mechanisms. I'm still not clear on the difference between delayed blowback and a locking bolt for instance, might be an interesting video!
Delayed blowback has lock-up, so it has a locking bolt, simple blowback doesn't. Part of the point of delayed blowback is that you get to have the mechanical simplicity of full lock-up without having to get into the complexities of gas or recoil operation.
The Deagle has a rotating bolt hidden in that chonky slide. It also has a gas piston stuck under the front of the barrel. The barrel is fixed. It's basically a rifle action turned upside down and stuck in a pistol.
Ian over at Forgotten Weapons has several videos on different mechanisms

@@MrKook upside down ak with an AR bolt.
Locking bolt is generally found on rifles. Since the displayshelf eagle fires what's essentially a rifle caliber round, it requires a stronger lockup than the majority of semi auto pistols

it's funny shooting the Desert Eagle at an enclosed shooting range causes the other range goers to move away from you, when you're the only one there firing what's basically a "hand cannon", and while everyone else is pretty much firing popguns.
"What's funny is that it feels wrong pointing this at you, even though this is jus a bolt...//...it just feels weird." The way it should feel. Brandon so safety conscious that even pointing a bolt at the camera still feels like he's flagging people. *+10 paragon points awarded"

Yesn't. It was the most powerful _commercially available_ pistol cartridge back then, but the .454 Casull already existed as a Wildcat cartridge for around 13 years (1958 was when it was made, Dirty Harry came out in 1971, and the first factory made gun to use .454 was a Freedom Arms revolver that came out in 1983), with only a few people making custom revolvers for it.
It'll still blow your head clean off, regardless of how lucky you feel.
I have a .454. Because why not
@@jamesbohling4864 I am jealous
So you're saying it was technically the most powerful handgun in the world at the time but the cartridge used in the most powerful handgun that surpassed the .44 magnum was already in existence just not the gun to fire it?

Basically, yeah.
The only reason I count it was because .454 Casull is commercially produced today, but back in the 70s it was just a custom tooled cartridge made in very low numbers, by hand.
I went to the range with a friend, he was shooting a .22 LR, and I had my .50 Desert Eagle. The best concealed carry handguns you can buy.
Granted, I’ve actually done it with mine because prior to the ammo shortage, I assumed common calibers would always be available at the range (learned my lesson now obviously. However, .50AE was never available, so I stockpiled that. I also didn’t have any defensive ammo at home for my normal handguns because this was also prior to me getting a CCW license and also prior to Texas becoming Constitutional Carry, and it was during the height of the ammo shortage.
That meant once I did get my CCW license, I had a stockpile of .50AE and nothing else, so I had to carry my Desert Eagle for a time until I was able to obtain defensive carry ammo for my normal handguns.
Did you appendix carry it?
How'd you carry it? Appendix? How did it even remain canceled lol? And what did yours weight?
@@Rack47 I carried it in a soft body Remora holster. Not the best holster, but it made it comfortable enough and they were one of the few companies who were able to make a holster even capable of carrying it IWB at the time.
I used a 2" thick police duty belt on recommendation from a friend. It made it very difficult to find compatible holsters because most clips are only 1.5" to 1.75", but since it's meant to carry a cop's full duty equipment (which I'm not carrying), I could put all that extra weight into the gun itself so it was surprisingly not that bad. Carrying it strong side or even weak side with a crossdraw was fine. Appendix was an issue due to how long the barrel was bending over.
It was heavy, but stable, so I just felt like I gained 5 pounds around my waist, which is every Christmas anyways. As a result of this, I actually decided I don't need to bother with compact or subcompact guns, so my current concealed carry setup is a double stack Para style 1911 in .45ACP with a 15+1 capacity and an FN Five-seveN with a 20+1 capacity as a backup.

best intro ever made! Love it
Ah, those '90s memories. Back in the day around my circle (ie. poor, junior enlisted Marines), the DE was the coolest gun everybody wanted to own, but no one actually wanted to pay for it. I had the privilege of shooting the .44 version over at the Camp Johnson A-1 pistol range. They opened the range on the weekends for recreational shooting, so I got to see and shoot a lot of different guns. The .44 DE was one of them. It was fun, but the gun was not very liable with the ammo, mostly WWB, that was on hand. I was much more impressed with this one CWO's Anaconda and another Ruger Redhawk that one of my Gunny's had. Of course, I couldn't afford those guns either.
Fun Video, but a safety advice if I may: If you swing the Revolver cylinder close with a cowboying jab of the wrist, like you did in the Intro (Minute 0:44) and later in the Video (Minute 13:28). Specially with a Full cylinder. You could bend your cylinder crane and damage your gun by ruining the timing and headspace/cylinder gab. So guys: Don’t do it, lock the cylinder in the frame by pushing it with your support hand in, not by inertia.
But enough "safety & longevity" tips: Great musical score and visuals with the mustache and Hawaii-Shirts, it was excellent entertainment!
You beat me to it. I cringe when I see someone do that to a revolver.

You know you were raised right/ well trained when even flagging a disassembled gun still feels weird. ive had those moments where someone flagged me with a gun that was disassembled to where it literally couldnt shoot and i the hair on my neck still stood up immediately lol. okay but ruclips.net/video/EnxOxpHqCcw/видео.html
Had that moment as he pointed it at the camera. My brain just went "that's not ok" and then went "it's just the receiver it's fine."
My Dad and I clean our guns together after range visits and we sit across from each other angling the disassembled parts all wild because you just don't aim a gun at another person disassembled or not.

@@jeffreygunn3530 I used to run a .357 version as a pin gun (86 ish) because it did a good job of getting them off the table and was low recoil. Could handle some pretty insane loads without excessive pressure signs also.
@@jeffreygunn3530 my cousin owns one..a .357, and that was the exact same thing he said. A buddy of mine has one that's a .50AE, and he carries that big fucker everywhere lol. The one time I fired it, it was definitely NOTHING like shooting a .22 lol, but it really wasn't all that bad either. I had no real problems with it, but ive always been into large caliber handguns, and have gotten used to them over the years. I wouldn't trade my
.44 Colt Python for a Desert Eagle tho.
Frun stuff Brandon, I like the change in the beat...dig the shirts
I Got A older desert Eagle. a mark 7. 44 Magnum and it's fun! one of my favorite pistols of all time.
"stop resisting in 3, 2, 1.." haha your comedy is always on point, brandon
"Let's see Paul Allen's 50 cal" had me dying 😂
I have one of the Early Israeli Arms Desert Eagle 44magnum - all black nitride which is a dream to shoot. I only have 1 magazine for it that runs properly. Bought an after market which doesn't. Found the list of rounds recommended for it from Magnum Research and the after market now works.
It makes my heart happy to see Donut involved with people like Brandon Cocaine Eagle Herrera, Leon Lush, Kentucky and Demo Ranch
13:48 hey I got that refernce. ITS HIP TO BE SQUARE!
I love how Brandon decided to dual wield them with the smaller caliber in his right hand.
I was wondering how his non-dominate hand was going to handle that!
"God knows what this will do; probably rip a hole in time and space" fucking KILLED me
Totally enjoyable to watch. Laughing the whole time. And the Desert Eagle is a beast. I didn't know it had a locking bolt......dude!
Yup, the Desert Eagle is actually closer to an AR/M-16 rifle in its internal design, than it is any conventional handgun..
And with just the tiniest bit of imagination, It's parts are VERY similar in appearance to the Steyr AUG's bolt/triangular carrier group too, especially with the dual recoil springs.
Now, if they can just find a way to Bullpup the Eagle, as easily as they can guns like the mini 14 & 10/22, etc..🤣
Got my Titanium Gold .50AE because, Modern Warfare II. My favorite thing are the fire rings. I usually take it out the same time as the S&W 500, so I never really notice the recoil on the DE after shooting the 500. The Barrel and slide are interchangeable between the .44 and .50 (you can actually mix and match your two).
Pumpkin hatred....
I thought about mine as a bear gun for hiking in the PNW but the safety is not possible to reach with one hand and it doesn’t always cycle even with the factory ammo never mind hot hand loads. The 4” 500 has never failed to go bang and you have much more diverse payload options as the deagle is limited to 350 grain or so as is suggested and the 500 mag goes from 350 to 700 grain hardcast.
He missed one of the best parts. He can just swap the barrels between his guns. The .50AE uses a rebated rim that is identical in size to the .44. The round .50AE was created with just that in mind. The bolt is engineered to handle .50 or .44, or, way back when I bought mine, .440 Cor Bon, a nasty .44 magnum bullet in a necked down .50AE case that moved a 240 grain bullet at 1800 fps compared to the 1300 fps of the standard .44 mag.
It was only the .357 that required a new bolt installed. The others just required a different barrel and magazine.
He did not mention the polygonal barrel rifling. It's rather unique in firearms too. I spent years testing with different revolvers chambered in .44mag, and the DE consistently gets better accuracy, control, and around a hundred fps faster muzzle velocity with the exact same loads versus revolvers. I blame cylinder gap. The DE does NOT like light loads shot through. Surefire jams. In that respect, revolvers do come out on top.
I did not know that. Thank you sir for the education!
@highlander31527 can i get A on my 50 cal homework i did
Also .429 DE which is basically just .440 Cor-bon 2.0 only probably just as unreliable
The .44 we used was a beast. We had to buy 3 types of ammo before she would fire reliably. In the end we were using, and I kid you not, silver bullets, because they were the only ones we had local with high enough grains to reliably cycle and not jam. The .357 we had was a bit better, as there was a better selection of ammo available at the time.
🤦♂️ He talks about the barrel swap and conversation kits at 12:30.
Heck yeah! I need to ask for specific video ideas more often!
I love how Brandon was more than ready to go slaughter a pack of wild pigs with a Desert Eagle.
i'd probably help him out if I lived in Texas and was nearby somewhere
Oh man I love the energy you put into that montage. This is one of the best videos you've done recently. I see that being demonetized has caused you to just give us the content we want. Those '80s cop mustaches are not to be missed.
13:21 "Stop resisting in 357"
The gold and silver statement was priceless
best montage brandon ever created
Brandon has moved from "daddy" to "father" with that mustache and outfit
More like the uncle who brings questionably legal fireworks to family parties
I have actually wondered how the deagle operates, figured that was just too much force for a direct blowback action. I did not know it was basically an ar pistol lol
"Let's be honest, this is not what's going to kill me" I started rolling lmao
That montage was legit vibes
I find spending more than $1k on a handgun absolutely outrageous (unless it's a collector's piece)... but I'm down to put up $2K+ for a Desert Eagle since it's a Hand Cannon.
Agreed
Try moving to Australia. After all the hoops jumped through and the paper work, and finally getting a handgun permit, guess how much a brand new Glock17A costs (the A means it has a extended barrel to meet Australian minimum length rules - yes a standard glock17 is too short for Australia! And it only has 10 rnd mags!) you will pay $1050 to $1135 for a bog standard no special sights grips or trigger.
@@doemacmonkey The sad thing about the Australian skill tree is that, even though you are immune to dangerous wildlife, toxins and the heat of a thousand suns... you have to literally give an arm and a leg to use modern ranged weaponry.
@@Blitzkrieg_Wolf yes, you *can* own an AR15 in Australia, but you Must have a commercial reason and class D license and you will be under such police scrutiny over it that one single argument at a bar could end it all. The only place I have ever fired anything semi-automatic, has been while on holiday in Hawaii!
@@doemacmonkey Visit Texas sometime and fire anything to your liking with only an I.D. and some currency to cover ammo and admission.
Brandon's only a year older than me?
The more you learn.
If only I could be as successful at that age.
I've heard comparing ages can best be viewed as a sign it's not beyond your reach.
Slightly younger? You're old enough to try.
Slightly older? You've still got time to try.
The trick to becoming a social media success is cranking out as much of the best quality content you can and building a community using the feedback to adjust that content to get more engagement from the audience. Having an existing business is optional, but again not beyond many people's reach if you save up, read up on what you want to do and work hard.
