    As a gun enthusiast and collector, I have to disagree agree with the DE being a flop.
    It was never supposed to be a replacement for more run of the mill hand guns. No one ever expected it to out sale the glock19 , beretta 92 , 1911, s&w29, ext, ext.
    It’s a gun designed for a very niche market and has done well on that market. If the gun was a flop, one could expect to see 2 things.
    1. Short production life
    2. Very low resale value
    Neither of those things happened with the DE.
    I own a mk1. I will say that it’s heavy and VERY finicky on the ammo it likes to shoot. It’s definitely not my EDC. It is however VERY accurate and much softer to shot then my .44mag revolvers.
    I can say this.......mines not for sale, and I think a lot of the other DE owners would agree.
    For gods sake, even non gun people know what a Desert eagle is when they see one. It’s probably one of the most recognizable handguns ever made.
    I can’t call that a flop.

      Good point, but I think the video's point was that it was considered a flop as it's use in the military and police force is very limited due to the ammo simply costing too much. The DE sits in this weird no mans land where it's too slow and heavy to be a good quick draw side arm and even though it's got good range and accuracy, a rifle can do the same job cheaper and better. It's a nitch product for people rich enough to afford the ammo, like a Mob Boss or a War Lord.

    I find that the recoil on mine which is properly chambered in 50AE, is the exact same as the recoil on my Glock 30 which is chambered in 45acp but with a short barrel. Also I feel the hit of the Deagle more when firing with 2 hands rather than one handed which kind of makes no sense but it definitely feels more natural and comfortable shooting one handed.

      @@djudson367 I've only shot the Desert Eagle in .44 . The recoil isn't bad at all when compared to a revolver of the same caliber . I let a petit girlfriend shoot it and she did fine . For the first time I only put in one bullet just in case , but she enjoyed it after the initial shock wore off , it does still make a lot of noise and it is a little heavy weight-wise 😆. Because the Desert Eagle is gas operated , it absorbs a lot of the felt recoil .
      I would have to guess that if you're worried about recoil and being the most enjoyable , the .357 mag would probably be the best as it is a lot lighter bullet with less recoil . .357 mag ammo seems to be slightly cheaper than .44 mag ammo .

    A couple corrections. Revolvers are usually more intricate than magfed slide pistols. The reason that revolvers are the go-to high caliber handgun is because you don't have to wrap your hand around the bullets inside of a magazine inside of your receiver and grip. The bullets are outside of your grip, letting you chamber longer rounds that find service as rifle rounds, or shotgun shells. But usually there are less intricately timed moving parts in a standard pistol and less springs and levers than you'd find in a typical revolver.
    Thank you for your time reading this, to everyone reading, and good video, if the producers see this.

    • @KhrisMiddletonFitnessOfficial
      @KhrisMiddletonFitnessOfficial Год назад +3

      The reason that revolvers are the go-to high caliber handguns is that a .357 or .44 magnum handgun is a lot smaller than a Desert Eagle or Automag.
      Also, you can't and shouldn't try to chamber rifle ammunition in a typical revolver unless you want a catastrophe to happen.

    • @initial_C
      @initial_C Год назад +3

      Revolvers are marginally more simple to operate, maybe that's what they were trying to get across. Under the skin they're like clocks.
      The other reason is that revolver frames are usually a lot more robust than semi-autos.
      An additional correction is that most modern pistols don't use blowback, they use Browning-style recoil action.

    • @JohnCastleSmokeless
      @JohnCastleSmokeless 7 месяцев назад

      Correct. Calibers like .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum might be used in some rifles (chiefly lever-action rifles) but they're still considered revolver calibers. The grey area is in calibers like .45-70 Government, which can be chambered in certain rare revolvers, but is primarily a rifle caliber.@@KhrisMiddletonFitnessOfficial

But, I don’t really think it was ever really going to be that, but rather something fun and dumb and more of a range toy and just something cool to have. Being gas-operated with a rotating bolt and fixed/pinned barrel means that it's also surprisingly accurate for a pistol, especially when using the .44 Magnum version.

    I own the Mk XIX in 44 mag finished in polished chrome. IMHO, the two things I hate the most about this gun is that because it's almost as heavy as some rifles, it makes it potentially less effective than say a 1911, which could be drawn and fired numerous times before you could even draw and aim the DE. Another problem I didn't like is that it has a higher jam rate than any other pistol I've ever used. This problem was drastically improved when the maker sent me new recoil springs but it still does it from time to time and it can be unsettling when you're removing .44 mag stovepipes with recoil springs that powerful. It isn't a gun I'd recommend for a first time gun buyer but to each their own, I suppose.

    I purchased one when 44 Mag became available, and sold it after a few years. The 50 A E. didn't interest me much, but when 440 Corbon became available, offering greater energy and flatter trajectory, I became a Desert Eagle shooter again. I then got a 50 A E. barrel because a barrel swap was all it took to shoot a different caliber. The grip was a little large for perfect fit but I was more annoyed by the awkward forward and up pivot of the safety, as on a traditional double action. It was reliable, accurate, and pleasant to shoot. I'm glad that neither the 6" or 10" barrel was ported. Recoil wasn't bad and they were loud enough anyway.

    • @jeffthompson9622
      @jeffthompson9622 2 года назад +1

      @Doc Holliday Corbon's claimed muzzle velocity for some ammo was 1800 feet per second from a 6" barrel, which exceeds any 50 A.E. load I know of. Bottleneck and tapered cartridges have some reloading issues, but there can be feeding benefits, although my 50 A E. fed fine in my limited use of it. I will admit that 50 A E. is better distributed. The ballistic similarity you mentioned sounds like a more recent cartridge whose name I don't recall that is somewhat toned down from 440.

The gun can throw you off balance for the first few shots because people anticipate a lot of recoil, and when they don’t get it, it causes them to flinch. The .5-0 is actually my girlfriends favorite handgun of mine to shoot because the recoil is very mild for the amount of power.

The only time I've had a less-than-pleasant experience with mine was when a chipper old man sold me a few bags of .44 mag 5 years ago ... for a peculiarly low price. They were shiny FMJs in shiny casings... and evidently he got stingy with the powder which meant the loads were very underpowered. I had to manually cycle 150 rounds, save the brass, sell those back to a different hand loader to get _real_ 240 grain rounds.
    It's the ammo, not the firearm, that can make or break the experience. Sometimes it's also limp wristing. Don't do that. With a Deagle it's hard to do it but that's personally because I have a tendency to grip all handguns the same. It's 4½ pounds of steel, not a dick.

It has what appears to be a rifle bolt in it. One drawback was that it would double feed cartridges and the slide would slide home on a live round. I didn't feel like having one of those go off in my hand when that happened. After about the 3rd time that happened I turned the weapon in and told them about it. They said ya it's been doing that lately...

    I call my flip flops flops because they flop when I flip them, but they're definitely not a flop because they're wildly popular among people who hate wearing socks and shoes...just like the Desert Eagle is not a flop because it's wildly popular among the people who love cool-looking handguns with heavy recoil.

    One word, cost. Name any kid in the 2000's that grew up to be an adult. We wanted to buy one but could not justify the cost to get one as it was too expensive. If it was 1/3 the price in the late 2000's, it would have sold like gangbusters.

I personally have the Mark XIX, 6-inch Component System that comes with a .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and .50 AE barrel, all packed inside of a really nice case. My newest Eagle is the Mark XIX L5 with ported sides and an Integral Muzzle Brake, chambered in .357 Magnum.

    The safety is right where you hadn’t to grab it to rack the slide, and the holding angle of the grip isn’t typical. A problem with the Baby Eagle (9mm version) is that it says not to use +P ammo. Seems a little crazy for such a heavy gun.

  • @Busa0069
    @Busa0069 Год назад +2

    I owned one of these back in the 90s, the only gun I’ve ever owned that would disassemble it’s self if you put a hot load in it. Firing pin block would fall out along with the firing pin and slide lock. Sending the upper slide forward onto the ground. Happened to me at a firing range why everyone was checking it out, most embarrassing.

    Extremely expensive, very heavy, and so inherently huge that it's just not comfortable or fun to shoot for most people. Doesn't matter how cool your gun looks, if no one actually enjoys shooting it, then it's not going to do well. Revolvers do better in the same or larger calibers because regardless of caliber, revolvers can have grips that are comfortable for most shooters. That's what actually makes the Desert Eagle difficult. The grip is so large, most people simply can't get a safe and comfortable grip on the weapon, meaning that even though the weapon doesn't actually have that bad of recoil, the shooter just can't have a really good grip on the weapon unless they have a lot of practice on the weapon or they just have monstrously large hands.

      The original comment was made by someone who probably has never actually shot one before for anything but a tiny rental period at the range. I have extremely tiny hands as a 5' woman, and I don't have any issues getting a safe or comfortable grip on the gun. Despite it's size, everything is easy to reach and the pistol feels ergonomic in my hands. The only thing that might dissuade people is weight, and that's easy enough to get used to.

    • @theduke7539
      @theduke7539 2 года назад +2

      @@DreadnoughtHvor as a followup. I won't disagree about the ergonomics of the desert eagle considering the design was intended to be used with both hands, meaning the controls can be easily reached with the use of both hands. But I have always practiced with pistols that could be operated normally, meaning 1 hand does the controls while the other supports the weight. When I shoot handguns, my right hand is positioned to reach all the controls and is relaxed while left hand clasps around the front strap and my right hand and my left hand supports the weight of the pistol, I find this gets a cleaner trigger pull for my own shooting abilities. I'm no national match shooter, though I do shoot frequently. If you have a different technique that works better for you, then by all means. But of the literal hundreds of people I've had ask to hold a desert eagle in my show cases, 3 have bought one, and only one hasn't brought it back. He's actually a coworker now, and he does enjoy it, he's just 5'7" and on the thinner side, but he knows what he likes and I'm not gonna say someone can't like the desert eagle. But the overwhelming majority of people look at one, hold one, shoot one, will almost never complain about the recoil, but they will complain about the grip and the weight. The price tag is no ones friend either.

      @@thecombatwombat69 not gonna argue, I was a videogame kid in the 00s, and the opening credits to cod 4 are seared into my brain. But it's just not for me. And I'm not dissing the gun. It is the way it is to house the monstrously huge rounds that have to travel through the grip. And that's the reason most people I deal with don't like it.

    Fyi - Safety is Paramount with a Firearm of any caliber.
    IMO it wasn't designed to replace anything, it was designed to shear money away from enthusiasts that wanted to BRAG about having the BIGGEST.
