The fact that he got shot in the head and survived and then outlived the Soviet Union dying in 2002 makes this man’s story even more incredible.
not just a normal bullet, he got shot in the head with an *explosive round* (which did mess up his face, but he still lived that long)

Gonna say this because I'm not sure it was mentioned: this guy survived being shot in the head with an explosive round on March 6th, 1940. He woke up a week later... True story.
He woke up the same day Soviets signed peace treaty... Stalin attacked 15 countries during WW2, the only one he couldn't occupy was Finland
As a Finn myself, I feel the need to point out a certain detail. I believe I've heard versions of the story where Simo got back up, shot and killed the Soviet who'd nailed him, before later collapsing himself.
However, I don't find that in most accounts of that event. That little detail might be just rumors or a small piece of exaggeration from the Finnish.
Although getting shot and surviving is indeed true.

His technique and tactics are beyond impressive. This guy was a badass not from the kills but, the STEALTH & movement.

Even more impressive because it’s not easy keeping snow in your mouth. The cold hurts, you try and move it around with your tongue so the freezing doesn’t sting, but it doesn’t do much until your mouth starts to numb.
So this is where that 1v1 Ogata episode originated from Golden Kamui.

As an experiment, I once stood absolutely still in what seemed an empty forest. After 15 minutes, all sorts of creatures started appearing, even though I had not taken any shelter. I just stood there. Wonderful experience.

I appreciate all the little things shown here he did. Being great at something isn't just being good at one aspect but methodically thinking through every step and having the discipline to account for every thing your opponent doesn't.
Stalin is like the villain in the movie that stays in his office the whole movie and asks his minions to get the hero killed but they always fail

Idk, but laying still in snow isn't too bad. All you need is some good winter clothes, sometimes not even that as the snow takes really long to melt.
One of my favorite things about him is he used open iron sights. You always hear tacticool guys ranting on about how optics are superior but some people with good vision just prefer irons. If you're comfortable, effective, confident, and proficient with a system and you have tons of successful experience with it then go ahead and stick with it when the time comes that you need it most
The arguments presented in the video in favour of iron sights are compelling. Scopes _do_ fog up, reveal locations through glint, limit peripheral vision and make for a bigger target.
@@TheEvertw Simo had never used a scope, and preferred to use his own hunting rifle. He knew the rifle well, he mastered it, never had mechanical issues, or loading malfunctions. So why take a worse rifle when you can use your trustworthy one? Also, using a scope limits your visibility to see around you. You are mainly focused to only what you can see through the scope, but with iron sights you have almost normal vision. You don't get caught to only one target but can easily scan what is going on elsewhere.
So, old tricks are better than a bagful of new ones.

There is a museum in Finland at Rautjärvi, South Karelia that is dedicated to the the memory of Simo Häyhä. Lots of interesting details about his life and some personal gear that he used during his service time is there to be seen. If you stop by at Finland, I recommend visiting that museum. 👍

i heard he owned his gun and hunted with it so he was extremely used to how it shot and made him much more deadly
Absolutely true. He mastered the rifle, won several accuracy and rapid fire competitions. The rifle had a five bullet magazine, and he still hit 16 targets in minute during his best competition. After five shots, change of magazine, and keep shooting. He had no mechanical issued with the gun, while in -40c weather most guns just froze and malfunctioned.

I chose to do a research paper on Hayha this school year. He is very interesting, and I enjoyed the project. Thanks to Infographics Show for the idea with their 2 videos before this one.

When I play fps games I prefer using rifles without scopes because the zoom can sometimes be annoying because it focuses your sight so well into a circle that it doesn't let you see what is going on outside the scope.

Never used an acog that was issued with our rifles in the 1/73. Qual’d every time 35/40. It was a piece of advice from my 1SG…sight batteries run out best to get good with the irons

It was like the beginning of the Empire strikes back when Empire attacked Rebels on planet Hoth. Also it was like the Endor moon war against Empire too occasionally. But yeah, we know how bad Russians can be. In 1700's they made a genocide in Finland. They destroyed whole villages and stuff. And Russians are also good at Iying. They Iie and some peopIe beIieve them, even Americans. We Finns know what they're like 100%.

It’s not always good to eat raw snow in cold environments cause it’s an easier way to give you hypothermia but this guy obviously knew what he was doing

The Soviets routinely bombarded areas where Simo might be out of paranoia. Finns routinely exploited this to great effect.

Man seeing him vs Carlos Hathcock in a shooting competition would of been one of the best matchups in the history of competitive shooting.
he did alot of shooting competitions and I think he won every single one he went to. and I think he even competed with the same rifle he had in the war with him
It would be very difficult to make it fair. As Simo was used to the winter and used a way less eefective rifle, and Carlos Hathcock, was used to the more flora and fauna oriented envoirement in Vietnam.

They’re using Thompsons and other American ww2 weapons TODAY in Ukraine. We gave them a lot during “lend lease”. I can see it
