Fun fact: at 8:49 the action of Napoleon throwing and breaking that porcelain when demanding the Austrians sign the peace treaty is completely historically accurate! Napoleon smashed a piece of porcelain that belonged to Ludwig Count Von Cobenzl, an Austrian foreign minister tasked with negotiating territorial disputes with France after the end of the first coalition war at the peace of Campo Formio. After much debate about border issues with France’s newly established territorial gains encroaching on the Rhineland, Napoleon threatened war again before smashing Cobenzl’s favored porcelain figure, which was a gift from empress Catherine II thanking him for his previous diplomatic works in St. Petersburg. Cobenzl and the Austrians would sign said treaty on that same day of October 17, 1797, speechless from Napoleon’s gallant behavior. Well it was more in the fact that socially he was always rather awkward one way or another, he was by all accounts quite handsome. Even when he became more confident he was still not charming as he was a very restless man who did not like too much protocol as he believed it wasted time. Napoleon's charisma came less from charm than more from his personal bravery, exceptional knowledge and cutting wit that when people were around him they knew he knew EXACTLY what he was talking about.
Not so much ugly than he was "a creep" aka behave in a very off-putting manner and he didn't take care of himself (and severed multiple depression through his life), in either look or health which gave him a sickly look. He was the proto-nerd and stuck out like a sore thumb, not taking care of his image in his young year, used to be isolated, not familiar with etiquette, mode and other norms. This got better with Josephine and him rising rank, as he started taking care of his health, look and more.

Oversimplified, I don’t know if you did that on purpose or not, but your attention to insane details like that is why I love your channel so much.

For a man who is called "ugly" he sure does have some flattering paintings.
Actually he was a nice looking dude
Not so much ugly than he was "a creep" aka behave in a very off-putting manner and he didn't take care of himself (and severed multiple depression through his life), in either look or health which gave him a sickly look.
He was the proto-nerd and stuck out like a sore thumb, not taking care of his image in his young year, used to be isolated, not familiar with etiquette, mode and other norms.
This got better with Josephine and him rising rank, as he started taking care of his health, look and more.
Monarchs payed artists well to paint them in a more desirable light as well, so its likely they intentionally made him more attractive
