    The GM-6 Lynx 50 CAL is one of the most interesting Bullpup .50 BMG rifles that I have ever fired. Compact with manageable recoil it does seem to suffer from a few problems. Ultimately like many firearms the GM-6 Lynx is a tool to fit a specific job, and it performs well at that job. In today's video we'll be taking a look at the Lynx and seeing how it performs utilizing NORMA 50 CAL ammunition.

      Would this not be a perfect DMR/battle rifle role if equipped with a smart scope system?

    • @prestonbecker8784
      @prestonbecker8784 2 года назад +41

      @@endorsedbryce Assuming that is a serious question, no. 50 BMG is overkill for humans, you can't carry as much ammo as .308 or the new Furry round, and I doubt that this system is accurate enough to serve as a DMR. Having the entire barrel move backwards does not lend itself to excessive accuracy. As Ian over at Forgotten Weapons has pointed out, even the short recoil Barret 50 probably has a 2-3 MoA accuracy.
      From what I remember, this version of the rifle was intended for an anti-material roll in urban combat. When you have a lightly armored personal carrier only 150 yards from you, 2-3 MoA accuracy is perfectly acceptable, especially if in exchange you get a "compact" 50 cal rifle. In contrast, DMR's are for engaging enemies beyond 200-300 yards, where accuracy and ammo capacity is much more important than weapon compactness or bullet size (i.e. a 30 caliber bullet is more than large enough to incapacitate a human sized target, don't need a 50 caliber bullet)

    • @mufasachainbreaker7757
      @mufasachainbreaker7757 2 года назад +15

      @@endorsedbryce Honestly, it would be a terrible DMR. Not because it could hit or kill a target. It is just that antiMaterial rifles and DMR/Battle rifle roles are different.
      6.8/308 tend to make better battle rifle rounds.
      This again isn't because it doesn't have enough impact. It is more like why an artillery piece isn't a good DMR. It fires slowly, isn't maneuverable, and the like. You want something as light and low recoil as possible while also having around 600 - 800 meters effective range and capability to penetrate body armor, with a 20+ round magazine for battle rifles. DMRs like a little longer range and/or a little extra precision/accuracy.
      In firepower and accuracy the .50 is fine. It is just low on ammunition, the ammunition is too heavy, the gun too bulky and heavy...

Nope, just send everyone out on foot useless taser rounds (guess they didn't bother testing their effectiveness) even a Humvee with a mounted .50 would shred any dino; however, the simplest dino deterrent would be to build a large fucking moat with a draw bridge around the entire enclosure, but that's impossible I guess.

    Want to know how weird Canadian gun laws are? The Barret is 100% illegal, cited as a military firearm, the GM-6 Lynx however is perfectly legal.

    • @CyberJellos
      @CyberJellos 2 года назад +35

      It is because we are only allowed 5 rounds on semi-autos. Gm6 lynx uses a 5 round mag, so it is perfectly legal. (For the moment anyway, It will probably be banned too.) Our gun laws are stupid.

    • @embarkingolive
      @embarkingolive 2 года назад +54

      @@CyberJellos you can pin mags down to 5 rounds. The ammo capacity has nothing to do with it, though you are right, most guns are restricted to 5 round magazines. The real reason the barret is illegal is 100% perception, just like the ak47. The AK47 is viewed as a "terrorist icon" but I can legally own a Type -81. Our gun laws are so dumb. They aren't made based on function, just perception.

    • @embarkingolive
      @embarkingolive 2 года назад +15

      Also, you can have more than 5 round magazines if they are internal, example... Well, the garand is perfectly legal with it's 8 round interal mag, which can be loaded as fast or faster than most detachable box mags.

      At least in Europe, the lynx is sold as a double standard. all parts are supplied for the bmg50 and the soviet standard 12.7mm ammunition as well. (of which there is a necessary double in the set) can be refitted at any time in half an hour. For example, you can use the cheap Russian ammunition for practice, and when there is a live situation, then the more reliable BMG50 ammunition...
      By the way, Hungary already uses NATO standard ammunition, which is a non-standard device is replaced... that's how the AMD65 was replaced by the BREN2 carbine...

      You guys talking about Tanoa and Altis, ya kids with all that fancy toys.
      Back then we fought on Everon and Malden against the reds, didn't even have NVGs and had to blow up T80s with satchels or wait for the few M1A1s we had while pinned down.
      If not for Daniel Armstrong, we would have been doomed.
      But no seriously, dont get to mixed up with being "stationed on Altis", people take you serious while you talking about a game, that really could become uncomfortable. :D
      I hope you guys have fun and maybe we'll see each other on Everon reforged. ;)
