The battle chibis are so adorable in this game.
This would've been the PERFECT game to add Wriggle in. She's underrepresented when it comes to fangames from what I've noticed.

Its worth noting that late in 2021, an online ranked multiplayer mode was added to this game, significantly improving replayability. They also fixed most of their spelling issues and continue to rebalance the roster to address balance with monthly patches.
I've never played a game with my family as much as I have with this game. My sister is awful at games buy loves rythem games, and my family likes watching the chibis and the music, it has to be my single favorite touhou game ever
I really enjoyed playing Spell Bubble when I got it, however I do agree that it can probably get repetitive and stale if you don't have others to play it with. I think you did a good job describing both pros and cons of the game.
Regarding the other dlc, it is possible to get the 5 Japanese exclusive dlc packs outside of Japan translated if you change the switch's country to Japan and purchasing it there, updating it, and then switching back to your country. When you switch back to your original country, there should be an update that translates the dialogue from Japanese to English, allowing you to experience the extra side stories the dlc has to offer. Not sure if this works for all languages however. Also, I don't think the newest dlc is translated either.
Edit: Also be warned, this does not work with the physical release if you have it. Only digital.
There is a way to get the DLC with the physical release, you have to set your Region to Hong Kong and buy it from the Chinese eShop. Not sure why the international ver. is based in that region, but it works nontheless

Fun Fact: There is a separate game called Bust-A-Move in Japan. It's called Bust-A-Groove in the West. I was confused when I started to get into interwebs in English.
Dylan's streams got me to buy this game, and it's really fun. If you're interested in a puzzle game with lots of challenges to complete, I'd recommend buying this game.

I'd say it's worth the price, the story and challenges have kept me engaged. Something this game would benefit from is an online multiplayer mode though

This seems like a fun game to play, but unfortunately its price is a bit high for me to buy right now since money’s a bit tight. I enjoyed watching you stream it however, and maybe I’ll be able to buy it in the future!

I played Bust-a-move 3 in ps1 and my favorite character in that time then i played was Kurol the baby with frog outfit.
I think the most "you knew exactly what you were doing here" moment I had was playing the tutorial in the demo, which is backed by the constant opening beat of Bad Apple, but never actually gets started except for the brief moments when the tutorial lets you have control. It's . I didn't know SiivaGunner was one of the music circles they called on...
Also, Taito adding DLC songs/characters makes me stay addicted to the game

I'm the type that's used to just playing single player of a game over and over, but no online play really is a shame. Same with side stories, I'd gladly purchase extra content since the main game is so enjoyable. A bit of a nitpick but a subtitle option for the intros would be appreciated too. Good review, and amazing thumbnail art ✊
I bought this game after watching you play it. It really is just like you describe it. I felt the same about multiplayer, I don't normally play it, but for this game I would love to play against someone that knows what they're doing.
That being said, watching andrew drown in bubbles was pretty funny, sorry andrew!
The Rythm Part is my favourite from this game!

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this but the combination of rhythm and puzzle makes complete sense. As Aspray said, Taito corp has made many puzzle games, but they also made Groove coaster, which is a rhythm game. They just mixed the 2 things together, added a bit of Touhou flair and boom, you get Touhou Spell Bubble!

I do believe you when you say this is a solid game for what it sets out to do, and while it has some issues that have hopefully been ironed out in the half year since release... holy crap, the price tag for all of the content. Each of the three side stories is 15 bucks a pop, which is kinda ridiculous. So I double checked via the Switch Eshop, and that's 55 bucks for the base game plus 45 for the side stories. $100 already. Then there's 9 music packs, each priced at 10 dollars. So that's an additional 90. Finally there's the... I guess Hololive DLC? Something like that. Also 15 bucks. ultimately that comes out to $205 if one wants the entire package.
Frankly, no video game should have this much DLC. I have the exact same hangup about Touhou Genso Wanderer Reloaded and its horde of DLC packs, and that games' DLC is far less pricey than Spell Bubbles'.
God, I'm the 666th like on this video... I can already feel an incident about to happen-
The issue is the dlc it's why I fucking hate taito locking over 80% of the game to dlc
