ABOUT THE SWEATSHIRT: He was able to add to the clothes he had on when he died, but the clothes he died in were always on.
COLOR RED: anytime death/ghosts are near, the color red is on screen. Like the balloon, or the moms funeral outfit, or the door knob to the basement.
This movie is so different on a rewatch. You watch it and think, “of course he’s dead!” but still love it for the story. And that’s the beauty of it. The twist was well written and directed, but the movie as a whole is enthralling.

    "I see dead people."
This movie is a masterclass in subtle storytelling.
Fun Fact: A lot of the members of M. Night Shyamalan's family are doctors. This is the reason why he cameos as a doctor, as a tribute to his family.
Emotional Horror Fact: Toni Collette has said that she was so moved by the emotional resonance of the story while filming, she did not even realize it was a horror film until after its release. To be fair, this movie is more of a thriller than horror.
Left-Handed Fact: While circling a passage in the notes, Bruce Willis does so with his right hand. Willis is actually left-handed; he learned how to write right-handed so that viewers wouldn't notice that his wedding band was no longer on his hand. Willis also draws the circle clockwise (like a left-handed person would), while most right-handed people would draw it counter-clockwise.

36:09 That part confused me for years lol.
She wasn't trying to record her mom poisoning her because she didn't know. She was recording a puppet show for her dad and her mom interrupted. She wasn't supposed to be out of bed so she rushed back to the bed and forgot to turn the video camera off. She caught her on tape by accident.
Now how her ghost found out about the video, I have no idea.
Thanks for your reaction! Your dogs are adorable!
45:51 I truly enjoyed Unbreakable. It was super different in a good way. I haven't seen another movie like it.
It also has 2 sequels! I only saw the first sequel, which wasn't bad.

Little Forest Gump Jr. seeing dead people. Ive seen parodies of that "i see dead people." line. Now the whole "i wanna show you where my dad keeps his gun." scene they use to do alot of commercials regarding that especially in the 90's.

The wife gave him the sweatshirt after she got cold when getting the wine from the basement,
It along with his coat, suit jacket and tie, was part of his former living consciousness, that he could remember.
Thought for sure we were going to get a "Shuddup" after the girl grabbed Cole's leg...
I'll forgive not getting that one... and for not showing the 70's boy scene, with half his head blown off,
because the road flare jump scare, totally made up for it. LoL

Donnie Wahlberg (yes, from New Kids on the Block) is the most underrated actor in this whole movie. He’s only on screen for 5 minutes in the bathroom, but he is terrifying and captivating. I love that no one spoils it for those that haven’t seen it. I still remember seeing it in the theater. The gasp of realization rolled through the crowd all at once. Awesome experience.

    M. Night was very well received with his first few movies. I don't think people really started dragging him until The Village was released...which I personally liked a lot and remember seeing it in theaters. I haven't seen all of his movies personally, but I definitely wouldn't call any of the ones I have seen anywhere near "bad."
I recommend checking out Unbreakable. Another M. Night movie staring Bruce Willis and also stars Samuel L Jackson. It's probably my favorite of his movies that later became a trilogy with Split and Glass being released years later.

The special features on the DVD/bluray helped out a bit earlier. For example, after he's shot, you never see Bruce Willis talking to anyone but Cole. You see him with other people, and you imagine things happening like you'd expect, but you never see him interact directly with anyone but Cole. Also, throughout the movie, Bruce WIllis appears only in the clothes he wore the night he was killed. M. Night's haters like to say he was a one trick pony, and relied upon a huge shocking twist at the end of his movies, like a gimmick, but I've enjoyed most all of his movies as well.

Everything he wears throughout the movie is what he was wearing the night he was shot. Remember she brought him the sweater when she felt cold. Remember what Cole said about the dead people who don't know they're dead: "They only see what they want to see". So it's not that he could physically move the pieces clothing, and there's no continuity error. Every outfit we see him wearing after he was shot is a variation of the things he was wearing his last night alive. It was, however, a brilliant technique to throw off the audience as to what was going on. This is about as close as it comes to being a perfect movie.

for me, THE most outstanding performance in this movie is Donny Wahlberg's role. My LORD.. did he nail it. He had such a TINY role, but he researched it, and learned it and how to come across like CRAZY. Fk, eh? He lost all the weight.. he's almost unrecognizable as his boy band counterpart. To me, it's Oscar-calibre acting, there, in the first scene. Donny is the guy who shoots himself, in the opening scenes. Donny sets the tone for the rest of the movie. Anyways.. ya, this movie is great.. I NEVER watched it for fun after the first time, never went back to it, but i DO enjoy watching what content creators react to, so let's go! My own co-pilot's are chewing their bones ready to start. xo

"Second Sight" is a term for something in many cultures. It meant someone who could see things others couldn't, mainly spirits and ghosts and such, though sometimes it might mean a limited divination such as with the Vikings or certain Celts who could sense "luck" or "unluck" about a person, object, or venture. Problem was that, with the first kind, those things could usually see the seer too, and they didn't always like it.
Munchausen by Proxie is what the mother was doing. Perhaps exclusively done by the mother, this is when the mother makes or keeps a child ill in order to gain attention and sympathy for herself. It can sometimes result in permanent issues for the child and sometimes death. How often it happens isn't really known since it is rarely suspected or examined for.

Would it not have been better for Cole to simply tell his mom he took the bumble bee pendant? You would think that he would know that it would cause his mom far less stress if he told her that. Granted, if he told her that, then we would've been deprived one of the greatest and well acted scenes, when Cole tells his mom the truth, in the car. I've seen that scene no less than a dozen times, and it has never failed in making me cry.

The woman who was poisoning his daughter was his 2nd wife. Her stepmother. Also the color red had a real significance in this movie.

    • @learobinson4450
      @learobinson4450 Год назад

It was the mother. She had Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. She deliberately made her children ill for the attention. The mothers of sick children get a lot of attention & sympathy from family, friends & medical personnel so people who crave attention - are addicted to it - will deliberately hurt their children to get it. They don’t intend to kill, just make them sick but sometimes they take it too far & their victim dies. It’s a recognized syndrome & some parents that had it have been sent prison.

The part about the car scene that hits extra hard is that the ghosts Cole sees aren't from everyone, it's just people who aren't at peace and can't move on. Which means Cole's grandma was only there for that; it mattered so much to her that her daughter knew she was proud of her that she couldn't let it go, even after death. She couldn't be at peace until she knew.

Bruce wears the clothes he wore the day he died, even if he wasn't wearing it when he died. Hence the coat and sweater.
Toni Collette is Australian and nailed a Philly accent.
You need to rewatch and see Haley Joel Osment's acting from seeing a dead doctor in the church, which is why he stole the icon. It's why he said Bruce was nice but couldn't help him at his house, and why Cole's mom never talks to him, nor his wife at the anniversary dinner. He doesn't move furniture to sit. An incredible film.
