I'm really happy to see you standing next to the toyota rally cars with castrol colors! Celica always gives me chills. I wish these guys to do well with their brand new car.
I was spectating rally Sweden last month and got to see the Yaris in action, it's really impressive and good looking! It's great to have another manufacturer along to produce WRC2 cars. That rear wing is an absolute masterpiece of motorsport design!
Very nice Castrol-Toyota Yaris Rally2. As an old rally enthusiast and already in the 70s and 80s also an active rally driver in a SAAB 96 V4, I have always thought that Castrol paints and of course their products have always been the best. I still have parts of all the Castrol promotional stuff left in the garage. Everything from unopened various oil cans, clothes, plates, flags to large illuminated signs for the wall.
@@nickygristmotorsports It's not just Castrol stuff that takes up space. There are also parts of the main sponsors for SAAB Sport & Rally from the era when Stig Blomqvist & Per Eklund were active SAAB drivers until 1981. SAAB , BOSCH, Dunlop, Clarion, BILSTEIN etc. and several rally related things. 😎👍
👏👏👌...this Yaris is looking mean!!..and at same time fantastic with this revised Castrol logos!!👍....cannot wait to see this car in full throttle action in the BRC!!!...I am a keen motorsport photographer and this car will make some good photographs!!📸👌..... By the way Nicky, the place you chose " The Rolls of Monmouth" is a beautiful place with fantastic scenery!!!I there ladt Xmas!!... good to see out again!!...nice video and commentary!!!.....!👏👍😁
@nickygristmotorsports hi Nicky, thank you very much for taking the time out to reply to me. That is really appreciated . It's really good to see you again doing these videos. Are you going to be at Rallyday XL this year at Castle Combe?....it's going to be a major show this year.....looking forward to seeing your next video soon. Many thanks Paul a keen rally motorsport photographer. 📸😁👍
Splendid narration by 4mer WRC star one Nicky Grist. So the R2 have decided 2 go 4 the services of Elyfin Evans younger brother?? May be they have seen a potential in this young dude. Big up.
For me the main difference between the two cars is that the ST185 showed how far we came since car ownership became a thing, and the potential and exciting future we have ahead; and the WRC2 car is actually that future. I don't think petrol cars can be tweeked much further. The future is now.
Still love the Celica, Yaris is also cool but I would prefer different rim colors, white, green, red or black. Good to see another wrc2 at the starting!!
Well Nicky the Yaris GR is a nice wee car but it’s no patch on the Celica I wish the guys all the very best but hate to say in 30yr time you ask anyone about rallying it’ll still be Subaru’s and Celicas and yourself and Colin ,Juha , Ari Vatanen, Walter, Jimmy Colin’s dad and all the guys from that era it’s the old skool that’s frozen in history it’s ingrained in folklore and in our minds forever all this R1 R2 and so on sadly won’t be remembered imo….. ps liked the wee radio controlled Celica 😂😂🤝👍
That's not true, I didn't wasn't old enough in that era so this 2017-today is the best era. Also you can properly watch WRC unlike back then when highlights where all you got, and watching those old cars after these modern ones make them look really slow, those new Subarus have nothing to do with rally anymore
@@HJK242that’s where you’re wrong Subaru in America are more or less all that’s successful in the ARA so they’re very much very much in use in rally maybe not wrc but that’s just because wrc is tamed down now . Also there’s no other driver has made a car manufacturer what they are today Subaru are where they are thanks to Colin and Nicky mostly 🤝👍
@@sscottwilsonnWRC is absolutely not tamed down. The cars make 500+ bhp and are faster than the group b monsters. Subaru are practically unheard of outside of the US nowadays and don’t even make anything spicy nowadays whereas Toyota can’t sell enough of the GR branded cars and are dominating motorsport.
@@mugenmark ok it’s not tamed down do some research into how long the stages are now compared to the past and research the routes it’s a lot shorter and a lot smoother because the cars can’t handle the abuse and they may be faster but there’s not as much sideways not as much flamboyance hence why the historic rallies and Roger Albert Clark etc have more interest fact 👍👍
This Yaris sounds a hell of a lot better than the road car which sounds like a hairdryer which puts me off it to be honest. It’s a shame the designers did not focus on giving the road car a more aggressive exhaust sound.
More likely manufacturer/Designer needed to follow gouvernment restrictions. New cars have to be silent from factory, except you use some exploits, which japanese manufacturers are not known for.
@peter8084 as Hyundai, Fiat (Abarth) and some others were able to do it, most likely yes, they could have achieved it. But knowing japanese people, it's most likely also "polite" to not have a loud car from factory 🙄
It looks so good in the Castrol colours. Still prefer the Celica, though. 👀
We agree, it looks ace doesn't it! 😍 The Celica will always have our hearts ❤
Honestly there's not a single rally car i don't like. Well... maybe the Citroen BX...
Heck! I love them all!!@@nickygristmotorsports
Well, Toyota seems to have been heavily hinting that they are going to make a new gen Celica GT-FOUR 👀
That ST185 will always be my favourite rally car.
It really is a thing of beauty
I grew up with the Celica, still a good looking car, never seems to age and the Rally Drivers of the time had phenomenal car control.
I tarmac rallied an ST195 GrpA in Australia, awesome cars. Google 'david banes celica gt4'
Thanks for your kind words. It really is some car.
The Castrol livery fits the Yaris perfectly, but the Celica (ST185) will always be a legendary fan favorite in the Group A era.
It’s great to see this much buzz around the BRC once again, can’t wait to see Meirion in the Yaris in a few weeks on the Severn Valley Rally 🤘🏻

Great to hear this. We couldn't agree more! Excited to see this in action in the 2024 BRC season.
Love how it looks in the Castrol livery! I will forever associate those colours with Toyotas
Great to see the production based 1.6L 3 cylinder motor put to good use in WRC
Great to see the castrol livery again! 🔥 and great commentary from nicky! Greetz from carinthia austria 🔥
Those twisting rear wing supports are a beautiful bit of carbon work. The retro livery also fits really well!
Couldn't agree more!
great cars and stories, thanks for the video and good luck for the season 2024 with Toyota GR Rally2!!
You're more than welcome. Thanks very much!
Castrol livery certainly looks good to me.
I wonder how it would look sitting next to the old Corolla WRC.
That would be a great lineup.

Top vlog Nicky….iconic colours, makes the car…👍👌🇮🇲🔥
Thanks Andy!
Does it still come with the movable restrictor plate? That was by far the most ingenious intake tech ever seen in a rally car back in the days.
So tempted to get this iconic livery on my GR Yaris.
I would love to have the body kit and wing. Its so much lower than a standard yaris too
I luv the castrol livery
We do, too!
This is so much more interesting than WRC 1 cars that are unobtanium.
that rear wing is so nice to look at.
It's arguably the best looking and also the most complex rear wing design out of all Rally2/R5 cars right now.
i need that wing for my car.
Will it be only BRC? What about FIA ERC. What exactly are those seats? I haven't seen them before.
For these guys, they are focusing on BRC for the 2024 season. There are already some GR Yaris Rally2 cars competing in ERC & WRC2 though.
Great video in my country KENYA
As much as i like that Yaris. That celica is stunning 😍
The old and new.
ciao awesome morning to all good see both driver and nice Toyota 👍👍👋👋
Ciao! 🇮🇹
Nicky Grist knows his rally stuff. This Yaris WRC2 must be good then.
It's a weapon! Are you looking forward to seeing it on the stages?
Looks great. All the best
Looking forward to seeing what happens on the first round this weekend.
Would love to see a video from the factory, showing how they build them!
That would be an interesting watch.
You need to reach out to Gazoo Racing WRT for that 😊

No, this has come directly from Toyota Gazoo Racing in Finland.

Okay but is Castrol sponsoring you or are you just providing free advertising?
original vs sub4ru tech
Not really a Rally Car ..Dakar Special taxed n mot.
Celica meant you had to drive it and not " computer RC "
There is no driving aid systems in WRC
It's one hell of a car!!
The golf is doing nothing for that waist line.
Says the know body, 🙄
Id have the old st 185 anyday over the yaris
Nicky try driving the yaris on stages
I'll stick to the Celica!!
