- Part 6 of a retrospective on Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid series. Featuring anything from Snake's Revenge to Survive, as well as deep lore about his relationship with Konami. Very cool.

Thanks for watching! Игры
Konami claimed this video because of the Graphic Novel footage. I can't not show it, so there ain't a good way around it, but if this video has bogus ads in bogus places, then it's their fault not mine.
Peace walker was amazing for a portable game back in the day. The graphics were really fucking solid. You can even peep a sneaky little kojima in the back of a truck. Portable ops is hot fucking garbage. I remember getting the plus version and it was the same shit with no story lmao. One game transcends Psp one, the other is Psp as fuck. This series is never consistent 😥
Fuck Konami.
@@QuetzalOvejasElectricas Lol every company does that, not just Konami you bandwagoner
I hope you used my FPS and control fix. Otherwise it will have been even harder to play.
That sucks man. Thanks Konami.
i would argue that solidus is actually a pretty unique “villain” in the MG saga
he is that one guy with TWO swords.
I adore portable ops and peace walkers cut scenes styles. I was happy when I found out both Yakuza Kurohyou games ran with that too 😁
The Sims: Bust a Nut is definitely my favorite as far as the series goes.
I didn't play portable ops but watched the story on youtube and tbh was a lot better than MGS5's story.
Portable Ops has always been designed as mainline. I mean it appears quite often in MGS4 (in Big Mama's church for instance or when all the canon games are listed during a cutscene, and so on...) and has so many key elements of the overall plot, even some plot points that were yet to be introduced
Also I get what your point is and I think their idea for streamlining was to show you the places where you could switch characters and make it so that 143.15 would recruit all of the soldiers within range of your waiting characters at once and not one after the other. So basically you leave them all within reach of the nearest switching spot, you change character and you call the frequency. Not ideal but considerably smoother
17:34 I spotted that Resident Evil 1 reference, you cheeky sausage!
Ashley wood is legit one of my favourite humans - he just pumps out great punk art at an alarming rate, and a lot of his own material has that same kind of esoteric weirdness which must have felt a perfect fit. The metal gear comic looks kind of soft and clumsy compared to later work, but along with his small press stuff, made a huge impact on the comics industry at the time. It's kind of weird to see Yoji Shinkawa's attempt to attach metal gear's stylings to a new, unrelated game this year - his art is kind of the front face of the series, but it doesn't run through it as much as Ash's.
Some of what you may be attributing to Wood's influence on the comics industry may actually be influence by the comics artists who influenced Wood. (Kent Williams, Bill Sienkiewicz, Jon J. Muth, Dave McKean, etc.) Not sure what you're referring to exactly, so I may be off base by saying this.
I'm surprised Portable Ops and Mobile were actually good games.
It's great seeing more of your videos!
Wait, you mean the whole "don't you think she's a bit young" thing is actual in-game dialogue?!
I saw it in hiimdaisy's Let's Destroy... comic and thought it was just a comical twist on actual lines.
ThorHighHeels: "The games PSPness does come in the way"
Me, a sensible adult : 😏
Can’t believe bro had more good things to say about portable ops than mgs 2
Thanks for another video mate
As always you push my button in the right places thor!
Loving your stuff!
Hearing Raiden say "Aw Baby, you're hurting my feelings!" is one of the most off-putting things I've ever heard.
That phone game honestly looks good.
Better than whatever that MGS4 iPhone game was.
0:08 Nokia N-Gage: "Am I a joke to you?"
Everyone: "Actually... Yes, you are."
I love this series, man.
I completely DESPISE MGS2 DGN, with all of my hate (Barry Dennen was amazing though, God bless his soul). But if I was going to find something good in it, it would be that some "extra" cutscenes were actually MGS2 cutscenes which got scrapped and reworked due to the 9/11 attack, and I'm mainly referring to Liquid's small exchange with the trio which goes something like "it's going to be a total disaster!" with Liquid going "disaster? that does have a nice ring to it!"; all of that was going to be in the original game, 3 days before mastering. It also explains that Arsenal hitting Manhattan was all Liquid's doing when he hits the switch, not because of a preprogrammed action inside the ship.
Also, that Karen Houjo cameo was even _present_ in the original game, just completely unused as much as other stuff. You can listen to the original version here: watch?v=daI9oMz8tMc
Do you really think Snake wouldn't call someone older than him kid? I mean, that's something I just expect from him at this point
He's like over 30 in MGS1 though.
@@eandjproductions2 Yes, and he'd still call others kid
@Mitch Lang you could be twice Snake's age and he would still call you kid
Yey he uploads again !
I got filtered hard as a kid on the graphic novel. Shinkawa's art was too negative spacey for me as a kid. My brain simply couldn't handle it.
Hey! awesome video. I just wanted to tell you that there is a mistake on the Mobile information. It does not run on the original N Gage, its a game made for N Gage 2.0, a gaming service and plataform for different Nokia phones like N95, N96, N97, N85, etc. I used to play Mobile on my Nokia 5320. So, if you want to play it you dont an expensive or rare phone like the original N Gage, just and old Symbian V3 Nokia.
Edit: In reality it was made for flip phones on Verizon and later it was ported to the N Gage 2.0. Also, the Resident Evil game this guys made for the N gage was pretty good too.
I love those non-cutscene cutscenes
i just love how out of breath the actor gets at 16:50
I kinda a like the cool raiden
Is like if the dead cell incident happened after raiden had some experience in other mission.
I would like to see more of that. Maybe in a sequel made for raiden were he can be free too weapon switching in a mid air combo
I'd need a flow chart to actually understand what the hell's going on, but it's metal gear so... that just how it be.
I remember motion comic cutscenes being a more prevalent thing during the wiis360 era.
Do you use flash, or something else for your animations?
Pretty disappointed that you don't mention the strangest thing about portable ops, it reveals Zero founded the Patriots a year before 4 did
I love your videos... Just wanted to point out, I don't think the original Digital Graphic Novels had voice acting... That was added for The Legacy Collection, I believe. I'm not sure if that changes anything though to be honest
i played the hell out of the metal gear mobile game on a flip phone. i think i still have it installed on that phone. i should go back and try it again haha
when i saw the ngage one i legit laughed at first and got some mild ptsd from the ngage port of splinter cell chaos theory which was like 2fps and not even the fact that it was ported to the ds could save it, but then i kinda got interested considering hey look, it looks neat, it plays neat and it runs at an actual framerate, thank you for introducing this fucking masterpiece to me
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/N-Gage_(service)
The game splinter call chaos theory is for the first gen of the n-gage launched in 2003 and yea the games for the first gen are shit but the second gen is launched on 2007 like a service to download games via the internet kinda like appstore and the services is dead long time ago (2010), the are some hidden gems like bonce, one, brother in arms, system rush revolution. and the only way to play metal gear on mobile is to get a Nokia phone like n95,n96,n82 etc ,hack the device and install the game with a cracked licence ;)
This could never run like that on the original Ngage. This was for N gage 2.0
Ahh metal Gear the Manga series i didn't now thats a thing
I had MGS portable on a flip phone, shit was tight.
The Portable Ops games were pretty damn solid. Metal Gear Solid.
...I'll leave now. 🤣
Wow for years I thought Ashley Wood was a lady. Odd to find out more than ten years after the fact that Ashley’s a man.
Groovy
The question is, can you finish this retrospective before Konami make another Metal Gear?
I really wanted to like portable ops but I just couldn't get past the game's camera control. Even on the vita where you could assign the dpad to the right analogue stick. I just hated how it's always moving the direction you're moving
Mods fixed it. You can now use the camera on the right stick. There are mods for GTA and the warriors too
Its hard to get used to, but I manage to play it and beat on both the psp and psvita, is such a good game
Didn't Metal Gear Solid Mobile come out concurrently with Metal Gear Solid 4?
The Sims Busting Nuts. LOL 😄
30:25-30:30- What!? LOL 😄
31:15- LOL 😄
Who is the guy after Solidus he mentions?
Leone, guy from the first Metal Gear Acid.
Hi there!
ஜ۩۞۩ஜ 7:51 ஜ۩۞۩ஜ

Here before Quetzal
Tal cual
Yeah but, where is Peace Walker?
What's the game at 0:55 ?
Hello Jonathan
Portable Jefe 🤣
Portátil instead of Potable
Wait... Ashley Wood is a guy?
Yes
and then I rewatched the Watchmen: ruclips.net/video/mLdqKIj3-A0/видео.html
Thank you for creating this!!
You already have my Respect for being a Gamer and Intellectual that has The Class to fully Appreciate the Lore, immense Realism, and actual military Lingo/Culture that Metal Gear brought to us all, I've Played many games , but nothing like this franchise. If this wasn't originally intended as Video game, and Hideo published Metal Gear as a seriess of Novels . No doubt in my mind , he possibly could of out sold Tom Clancy , well beyond in terms of how Rich Hideos MGS novels would contain in Storytelling, Far from Cliche.
Thanks for the upload , and Godspeed with your Channel.
P.S. I can never Forget the Animal Crossing soundtrack, good choice; )
Why are you capitalizing random words?
31:15 .... A Game Theory!...... oh wait
Portable Ops > Peace Walker
*CHANGE MY MIND*
Cosign on this. PO felt a lot more like classic Metal Gear. Granted I haven't played either since I owned a PSP 10 years ago.
I might second this. Haven't played PW in ages and never finished it in the first place, so I can't say for sure if I prefer ops, but I guess I'll find out soon enough.
@@dooberknob3947 Pretty much, it feels more like a MGS, plus the story was better, and you didnt need to do ALL the sidequests just to unlock the true final boss.
I second that comment. Peace Walker is an overrated grindfest with a more inferior story.
Coleco 84 Peace Walker has better mission variety and it feels less like Mgs3-lite and more of its own thing . The characters were hell of a lot more likable in Peace Walker and I did like the overall story . The boss battles are still pretty ass but so were PO bosses.
Ahhh Portable Ops. The last great MGS game.
