It is not just another election cycle-we need to deal with climate change now and Trump is in denial. Trump is an authoritarian who has promised no one will have to vote again, so there is that.
I'm just extremely disappointed in the Democratic Party. They have every opportunity to adopt populist strategy, the things that we actually want around healthcare, workers rights, women's right etc. and they just routinely don't deliver. And then blame voters for being too far left. But, politics aside, I'm a buddhist first. Whatever that means. But what I think that means to me is that every day I'm going to wake up, do my best to be the kind of person I'd want in my life. Be a good friend, a good family member, and stay active in my political lane with good intentions at heart. Loved the video. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. While no Buddhist channel is obligated to address politics, it’s a mistake to assume Buddhism is entirely apolitical. The Buddha advised kings on ethical governance, and voters, as holders of power, share a similar responsibility, aligning them with principles like the Dasa Raja Dharma. I enjoy Brad's content, but his fashionably cynical, too-cool-for-school normalization of a candidate/president-elect whose persona is so unapologetically rooted in greed, hatred, and ignorance has been a bit too much for me lately. I hope to see more of his usual great content soon. I really appreciate the care you show and the thoughtful way you address your concerns. Thank you.
Thank you for this. And thank you for not posting about politics in the run-up, that was a much better choice than the Trump-normalizing half-endorsement over at Hardcore Zen.
When France had its recent elections, the far right did quite well. Some guy on TV made a point that's stuck with me, that we need to stop demonising these people and treat them as human. Like you said, their views might lead to real harm. But all of us have biases we can't see, things we haven't thought through, and will be judged by later generations. If we treat them as people, we can address their real issues, and even if we don't achieve anything, we can say we tried our best. A Chinese author wrote in response to his own political struggle: "At night I rise to mop the floor and write to let life’s love and beauty carry on Others are awake, not far away, to mop up-what? Bodies and evidence Here on the mainland’s endless cutting edge I still am writing ancient poetry If heaven has no mercy, it must fall If earth has no justice, it must implode" (by Yu Xinqiao, translated by Anne Henochowicz) Thanks for the video! I really appreciate it. Let's keep writing poetry :)
@@zenconfidential25 Good Morning Jack, the proverb is from Joseph de Maistre, a Philosoph in the 17th century and of course, i can understand also your point but would you say that people can take fate into their own hands? Have a pleasant and nice start in the week! 🙏
I'm sick for two days now, about Trump winning. It's a tight feeling, a tension that even bothers my sleep. I'm doing a lot of breathing. I'll get over it in a day or two, I hope. I love Kamala. I'm 70 and was looking forward to the first female President. Moving to NYC in 1980, after seeing Trump in various media for over a decade, I was shocked that he got his own TV show, The Apprentice. It was then that I realized there were two basic groups, in their reaction to Trump. There were people like myself, who found him to be shallow, profoundly ignorant, a blowhard who BSes about everything, comical in his ridiculousness, but lacking humor, if that makes any sense. That was my first reaction to hearing him talk for like five minutes back when. The other group, The Trumpers, or fans of "The Apprentice," find him entertaining, uninhibited, someone who tells it like it is. They love him, or see him as a savior. I can't find my sword.

As a Brit with no dog in the fight, my question is this: since the Republicans control both houses, who will you guys blame if things don’t improve this time?
Well there it is! The problem with getting a job...is that you have to then DO the job. It is a job, after all. We forget that here in America where the Spectacle RULES.
Process is like the stock market. Has to do with the way information is processed and transmitted in spacetime amongst organisms. Internet phone mail the printing press. Each has made progress faster but also more chaotic. Like mixing a dye in water. It can spread slowly or it can be agitated. But agitation does not create smooth even spreads. A small cup would find equilibrium with the dye faster a humongous cup would take longer. And it would need more dye to show a change in color for the whole cup in the end. So we each do our best. We each follow our paths. Each one holds a different sword and some are.in synergy and some are in conflict. This is cause and effect. He didnt troll an entire nation. An entire nation was reflected as a troll. We want to say every city is like l.a. but there is also n.y. there is Dallas. There is flint. There is Philly. Each it's own pond. Each has fish in it. And these days we have more rivers between ponds. So it's not that they lack compassion. It's that they have been taught an older obsolete version of compassion due to how the dye spreads in the pond. The belief common sense is common outdated and obsolete. The belief common sense is just behavior we teach and learn from each other that allows us to enter into a consensus as to what is and is not acceptable behavior. These rules change slowly overtime but are sped up when having to deal with concensus that is different and thus cultures can evolve new measures of common sense by meeting at a large scale or people can evolve their common sense by doing with each other in a given city on a smaller scale. Even smaller would be tribal and these days that is not as common. But within a certain area people will have formed their own version of the nation's conceptions of what common sense is and is not. The same with compassion or love. When a man beats a woman chances are good that this arises due to how they were raised in their environment to believe that this is actually love. He has to hit her in his mind. This man is not wrong just outdated and obsolete. Reminiscent of the older ways of behavior. To understand this onenmust learn history. One must realize we were apes once. From acting like a bunch of monkeys to attempting to become better it's a long road. Was not long ago we owned slaves. And this was considered a divine right. So common sense is not common. It is learned. It is fought for. It is hard won. And today's common sense could be tomorrow's mistake. And expecting it from others leads to dissapointment because they have yet to put in much effort and have yet to realize that it is not a destination but a journey.
@zenconfidential25 for me it was math. So if I take the image of a tree without leaves and act like that is the paths of free will possible in an organism then the trunk would be the early years. Every other branch is like a break in this river of cause and effect so if I just let cause and effect do its thing i.e. am stuck in self then I will take one path from the trunk to the surface of the tree based off the influence of cause and effect. But where I place effort a new break or branch arises different then the one I would have taken. Each choice leading to its own branches. There is a koan that explains this. The bones of a wild fox or something. So we are all born to cause and effect and trapped by it. But cause and effect can be manipulated in the here and now. Kind of like building a house brick by brick. Before the self gave me a hut. But by understanding how I am shaped by cause and effect I can choose to dismantle hut and build house. Day by day brick by brick. Since this implies great effort it rarely occurs without some form of agitation but too much agitation well you've seen it when you try to force a point of view. The mind defends itself. And so do the people when it comes to consensus. So if the country chooses Trump it is by default the best possible outcome. We as individuals will do our part and add dye to the pool. And it will spread of its own accord. Awareness of cause and effect is not freedom from cause and effect but working with cause and effect. The work part is important. Time and effort. But on an academic level I love looking at where we are in this great river of spacetime and it tells me we have a little bit more to go before the people are educated enough to decipher between genuine knowledge and mmisinformation. This does not speak to the whole but gives us a glimpse of what is general. For me each art served as a new way to see the world. A new way to process information. So math is powerful. Art rocks too since it expands my base level of imagination and I can now picture vast mathematical and chemical models intricately. But for cause and effect math and history. Since the total sum possibilities of what a person is capable of can be represented by a tree then what does occur can be seen as a progression from roots to leaf. How the cherry blossoms fall.
I think the emphasis a lot of people on party identity is unnecessary. We tend to make political factions into egregores and work towards their furtherance as an end in and of itself, which is foolish. They're tools for organization. Once a party is no longer suitable for your interests, there shouldn't be any qualms about defecting. These things are transient.
@@zenconfidential25 you're right about the responsibility too btw. I think whoever won there was a lot of anger. I'll be happier when the left moves away from this graduate class, looking down on ordinary people schtick they've been on for a while

Later that man was found to be a strong MAGA person, also my friend was stabbed to death, on the max. For defending two teen girls. So its real. Am not sure what your talking about, one side is to tyrn the other cheek and be the yin and the other is to take the mallet and bash down as yang. Thats the balance if earth. Predation dominance vs compassion empathy. Ether way, there is the veil of earth with of its dualities and 10k things and behind that is the layers of the Jin,Shen, cosmic egg torroid soul. @@zenconfidential25 "In good faith" is a colloquial phrase meaning "sincerely" or "honestly." Nothing to do with a person's religious faith. Wow. Thank you for this. There is so much here to process.
Amen!! Thank you.
Compassion dues not automatically equal open borders and other left wing policies
Definitely not, correct.
@@zenconfidential25 you're right about the responsibility too btw. I think whoever won there was a lot of anger. I'll be happier when the left moves away from this graduate class, looking down on ordinary people schtick they've been on for a while
If it's any consolation I'm in the UK and the same thing happens. I'm more and more convinced that Elite Theory is true and democracy is like professional wrestling

Good stuff my man, love the channel and your vibe, a modern day Ikkyu! Thanks for the open honest non- holier- than - thou commentary on the election outcome! Also enjoyed the conversation with Brad Warner…..
I appreciate that! Thank you John.
Don't delete! This is good! We as left-leaning people need to wake up, get REAL and stop the bullshit we keep eating while we're being told its a sundae.
Hopefully, now, the war in Ukraine can be brought to a speedy and peaceful conclusion.
If Trump manages to get this done, he's definitely not all bad.
I don’t think he’s all bad no matter what, and I sure as heck do hope he stops at War in Ukraine, somehow.
if Trump serves Ukraine to Putin on a silver platter, will that be to your liking?
I'm not sure how you would fit all of Ukraine on a silver platter, but knowing Trump, it would probably be a fake silver platter.
I am in Mequon, WI, not far from you.
Just another dharma gate, even if it feels more like a dharma mouse hole through which you have to squeeze.
We can fit through those mouseholes, we're like an octopus!
How privileged you are to endeavor in this video.
I try! ;)
More power to fear and hatred is so obviously detrimental - its not about losing, my sunken heart is for all beings.
Well at the trout lake abbey, during the last trump election, he was getting put of he's car and a man thought he was middle eastern, hes not. so the man ran at , our teacher, and slammed his head with the door, cousing him to be in the hospital for 3 weeks and permanent brain damage.
NEI GONG the greater Kan and Li. Is how to cultivate the torodial soul. Remember when you go into the Bardo, all layers of your nature body go back into nature, only the cultivated torroid soul awakens and becomes buddha. May your heat be full of cosmic love. Use the JHANA
Thank you so much.
No matter what, the choice available was abysmal: a smiling nitwit or a thief! No wonder that
75% of major newspapers refused to endorse either.
Smiling Nitwit or the Thief -- that'll be the title of the TV movie based on this election cycle....
Kanala was no where near a smiling nitwit...intelligent, insightful, emphstetic, a very hard campaigner in a short period of time...
it's all just a show
I am not related to this at all, but we all need to find and love the little Trump (and much worse) inside and liberals can think very hard what went so wrong if they want to bring so much good to the world.
Good points, thank you.
What’s a Buddhist?
A koan.
back atcha!!
Somehow, I don't think your question has been asked in good faith. Maybe ask someone who's willing to discuss it with you seriously? Like the founder of Brux Barrels?
Never try and judge another person's faith brother.
@@zenconfidential25 "In good faith" is a colloquial phrase meaning "sincerely" or "honestly." Nothing to do with a person's religious faith. If you mean "don't judge other people's motives," I think you do exactly that in your characterization of people you disagree with. I loved both of your books, btw. Bought one for a friend in prison whose writing voice is similar to yours.
That said, I should have just sat with my disappointment in this video instead of commenting on it. Pax.
Glad American Buddhism is in such a healthy state.

@@zenconfidential25 Yeah, absolutely shameful display. I've unsubbed from your channel.
🤣
"ok its his time, he won" , your ridiculous, upholding our two party system is hardly Buddhist.
Not sure I follow you.
@zenconfidential25 Nagarjuna said that death is more fitting then living in an evil system, the Buddha didn't teach submission to bullies or evil, of which this country abounds. Please forgive me for being harsh 🙏
The two party, first past the goal system is abhorrent because we end up voting for the lesser of two evils. So we inevitably end up with two lousy choices.
Thank you, good points my friend.
Please could you provide the reference for your statement on Nagarjuna?
"thoughts from a Buddhist" hahahaha, what a joker. 😅🤣😂🤣
