Followed by the 'Gangster Wayne' sketch.. I dont care if i live to be 120 years old, it Impossible to watch that without catching stomache cramps from laughter. That Malcom X line hit like a nuclear bomb .. the long pause and then follow up with that sketch was like a SuperNova.
the best was at the end in the extended cut when mooney thought all those questions were scripted but blown away when dave told him, "nope those were all genuine questions. we didnt ask them to say anything."
One thing you gotta love about Paul Mooney, he was just so unapologetic about who he was. He had no problem telling someone how he really felt and always kept it real
Hollywood did not F with Mooney. His mouth was his gift and curse. He did things his way (Like Dave way before Dave made it cool) and he was essentially blacklisted but He's so talented he made his presence known without much mainstream support.
Between Paul Mooney, Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce, Robin Williams, George Carlin...I really can't qualify who's the true godfather of stand up comedy. They all are in their own right. Legendary people, Legendary comics and those people alive who were influenced by these late greats have a responsibility to carry the torch.
Paul Mooney was the first to put robin williams on TV. He was on the Richard Pryor show which only lasted 4 episodes. That’s how robin got his big break
Yeah but the story I remember is Comedy Central offered Dave Chappelle $50M to do Season 3. But Dave Chappelle was burned out from working "20 hours a day" to create the show. Chappelle went on vacation to Africa instead of doing season 3.
@@rational_observer That is an element of what happened but not the whole story or the pertinent part of events. Dave felt that the network was trying to influence the content of the show, and often succeeding. Dave believed that to accept the $50 million was also to accept further network interference, to accept content he opposed. That is, he thought he'd be a sellout. 35 years ago, Jackie Gleason said this about network tactics (paraphrasing here): In the beginning they give you a ton of freedom and a ton of money. Once the performer gets used to the money and to the luxury lifestyle, the network will offer a lot more money with the understanding that the network will assert more editorial control. This boxes the performer in with the dilemma "Take the money and lose control, or lose everything." This is what CC did to Dave. While he didn't see it coming, once it arrived he saw what it was and walked away. He chose his integrity over the cash. By offering such a false choice to Dave, "Take the money and give us the show or you get nothing," they were trying to take Dave's show creatively, and ended up costing his show altogether. In these senses Paul Mooney's prediction was accurate.
How ironic was it that they actually took Dave Chappelle's show and said, "its worth billions but we'll give u millions and btw this show wouldn't be didley squat without you Dave so what do ya say dave"
Eddie Griffin also said that they start with black stars on these new networks and once they create something they cancel ur show and replace it with a show that is "community friendly". U can see how Chappelle show was replaced with K&P and benefited from the following that Dave et al. fought for.
RIP there will never be another like Paul Mooney, unapologetically unafraid, unintimidated, unwavering, and always always so funny, RIP to a real comedy legend.
Paul Mooney is one of the reasons I love comedy so much. As a Art and Craft. He was such a artist with the way he crafted jokes and dropped knowledge at once
I really feel like by being a stand up fan since I was a kid and watching so many of the legends has truly added to my life and made me a better person. Watching these old skits and stand up routines takes me back to when I watched them the first time much like an old song playing brings up memories of where I was in life. RIP Paul Mooney
I love you, I love you, I love you. Thank you for taking away my worries with laughter and realism. He's always got that number one spot In my heart as one of the most phenomenal black comedians that ever touched a mic.
Rest In Power Paul Mooney, I loved going to his stand up shows on a late Saturday night. I wouldn't stop laughing 🤣😂 until Monday morning with sore ribs. 🤣🤣
This show put me on to Paul Mooney to the point, I was buying his his stand ups and The Richard Prior show back when I was teenager in the early and mid 2000s. This man was the first person to show me how funny the TRUTH was. Rest in Power 👑
RIP to a very funny man that I grew to love on the Chappelle Show. He was hilarious and I loved him as a comedian. He's one of the comedians that has inspired me to want to try being a comedian like Eddie Murphy, Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, and many others. #rippaulmooney

Wayne Brady still doesn't think it was funny, strange but true.
That was my favorite Paul Mooney joke!! So funny!!
I love it, lol, he gets not just one of them, but both of them in such a short joke.
