Conan is great at setting it up for his guests to knock it out of the park, which is essentially what a host needs to do when they have great guests like him.
I appreciate the self confidence in young Dave. The way he carried himself through out that exchange leaves something to be admired. Tough setting for most of folk, but Dave just sat there calmly entertaining all of us with his legs crossed like a much older established gent talking his field.
Dave had already had some success and was a reliable stand up. He was popular with comics and stoners. He still hadnt hit household name fame which was a few years away. He was in this comfortable middle ground who was high and chill and knew how to work a room. Conan Late Night was a chill vibe anyway for alternative comics and ideas that catered to college age, Daves demographic.
Conan is a legend, he’s the funniest and realest late night host. He doesn’t interrupt and doesn’t fake anything either, he’s also having a blast with Dave too.
Andy richter controls the universe and Andy barker pi were awesome if you haven’t seen them. Very underrated comedian, glad Conan always recognized it.

I already knew Chappelle from his half dozen appearances on Conan, Men In Tights, Half Baked and Dr Katz. I think I was one of the few who can say they watched the first episode of Chappelle Show. No one really talked about it at first. Then some of my friends would recite lines from a new episode. Then the Rick James episode aired and that changed Daves life forever. NOW everyone knew him all of a sudden.
