    As an official old guy as you age you will enjoy such tasks less and less ! Thanks for taking us along Tom.

    I did demolition derbies for a few decades, a total of 222 of them myself. Me and the other two guys that all ran out of the same shop were forever breaking down and mounting tires by hand. When we started running double tires we finally bought an old Coates 2020 tire machine and kicked ourselves for not getting one sooner.

    Yup. We have 3 vehicles and an extra set of winter wheels and tires for each one. Bought a tire machine and balancer 2 years ago, biggest regret is not getting that set sooner

    Great video as usual! What a difference a helper makes, especially on smaller tires that don't weigh enough to stay still. When I bought my 48' flatbed I replaced the 4 retreads on the rear axle along with the last 4 drive tires on my Pete I saved over $500 in labor alone on those 8 tires. When I figure a way to carry spare tires under my trailer I'll be taking care of my own roadside tire changing which is where the real savings comes in.

    You can get a hand operated tool at harbor freight that works fair enough for the price. I mounted mine to a twenty inch bud rim with tire and buried it beside shop where I could walk around it with tool and cheater bar. Works better than I expected.

    Agreed, hand mounting on alloys is hard work. Not damaging the lip is tough, my Harbor freight spoons left some good marks in mine and solidified that I cant do alloys on my own. I miss the job I used to have that had a tire machine on site, those things made it a breeze changing car tires!

    I had thought your Mrs. Cleaned and did camera work, but lately I'm noticing the across the board flow of teamwork between you two... Impressive, it appears behind a good man is an equally good woman... And a good dog too.

    Used a forklift in a pinch to break the bead & change valve stem.

    I have found that the harbor freight manual changer with a duckbill attachment works really well for the price !!

    I used to be a GM guy, living near Flint MiI. I am also tired of the constant attention they need. The newer they are, the worse they get.

    I do some work to my van but I'm not doing tires and balancing myself. Pretty much any other task the boys and I have been able to tackle but I go to the local tire shop

    It has been many many many years, but I have done farm and equipment tires off a service truck. While these tires have larger sidewalls, they tend to be very stiff and can be a royal pain.
    If you feel the need to do this get some tire spoons.

    I bought used set of tire equipment. It cost me $5500 for full setup. Hoffmann branded, works great. I can balance 19.5 with the adapter. It's worth the cost. However I don't do tires to make money, just for me and good customers.

      cant justify the cost for as few as i do. i mostly do 22.5". dont use a machine for those. couldnt afford one that did.

    Ive often considered getting a coats 40-40 machine can get one cheap enuf wouldnt be a big concern for limited use but i havnt wanted to use up shop floor space so far
    Also not ideal for aluminum rims but ive heard can get plastic add ons to keep from scratching

    Mr. Smith, what brand oil filters do you recommend for Ford 5.4 and 6.2L gas engines?
    I used to religiously use Motorcraft FL-820S, but Ford changed the supplier and the new ones are poor quality.
    I respect your advice / opinion.

    I use a little 4 ton bottle jack under the receiver hitch on the back of the pickup if its not high enough i just use a drop hitch flipped upside down that usually breaks the beads loose, i always go to the pressure on the tire because if its runs lower than the tire asks for the sidewalls are like paper clips it will eventually blow out if u run the tire low air pressure, if a tire says max 50 i wouldnt run it lower than 40 psi if the car calls for 32 and its 20 pounds low u will see the tire buldging on the ground where it touches and its not safe to run like that eventually you will end up with a sidewall blowout ,just my three cents with inflation rates 🇺🇸💯🤷🏻‍♂️

    I’ve had a recently pleasant experience buying a used freightliner from enterprise, they also sell their own rental cars after 4-5 years. I’d bet you could find a nice Toyota for a better deal than any dealership can offer!

    • @slngblde
      @slngblde 19 дней назад

      I’d highly suggest against that, especially from enterprise. They don’t take very good care of their fleet from what I’ve seen.
      Used rental cares are just a bad idea in general.

      @ I’ve had 0 issues with my M2, obviously put the effort in and scan them if you can. Mine is low mileage and 0 rust.

    I guess I’m missing something…
    You have a single tire that’s needed changed and balanced and you have to pay to have it balanced…. I’m sure you can afford a mount and balance at the same time and save your self 1 hour of complaining and just have someone else do it. With the five or so random mont and balance of car tires preventing the purchase of machines.
    It is what it is, source it out from start to finish.

    • @bratvlad
      @bratvlad 18 дней назад

      I was thinking still had to go to get it balanced? why not have a tire swap at the same time/location then. If it dint need to get balanced then it makes sense do it yourself.

      because they wont take the time to clean the rim like i do and they wont may attention to how the sealer is applied.

    Skinny sidewalls are crap I wouldn't own a set of them on any vehicle I own it makes them look getto.
