So i got a new complete bike full cromo frame forks bars only a single wall though but the rear hub is amazing the whole bike is sealed but yes I will probably take out the hub once i taco the rim and put the hazard light loop onto the hub
Sounds like you bought the right complete! And that’s exactly why I only recommend full chromoly everything completes. You only have to worry about a couple rims instead of half of the bike
Budget doesn't always mean bad!!! The rant rims and hubs are good! And the rant rim is like 25 bucks. I think the whole wheel is like 100 for back where maybe a bit more but definitely worth it! My friend has a rant back wheel and Its been through hundreds of flairs and Bails and its still good!
Budget things can be great, but I wouldn’t recommend them over the higher tier parts because until you’ve been in bmx long enough, you just don’t know how hard you will be on parts. That guy who does all those flairs and has no problems is good enough to land in a way that won’t destroy a 25$ rim. But I’ve seen the best people completely destroy the best of the best rims on flairs. I personally am really rough on rims, but someone in the trails with no pegs might not be. So for a lot of people that budget option usually ends up meaning that you have to buy twice. So I skip all that and say buy the best stuff out the gate and just don’t worry about it and know that you’re going to be okay for a long time. I’m mainly writing this for future visitors to the comments to see the thought process behind buying quality parts the first time. seriously. I bought a decent complete, only thing is it has single wall rims. spokes started coming loose just from 180s and a couple of bad bails. I’m saving up for just a double wall rear
I just got my bike from when I was a kid back. It's Judy a frame now, and I can not find factory parts. Never built a bike, but I'm guessing I have to build it all aftermarket. Do you have any tips on creating a build list that is compatible with eachother?

Well that frame isn’t available from subrosa as a complete bike, which leads me to believe that it was built up entirely from other parts. So I’d guess based on that that it should be good to go. Can’t say for sure without seeing a parts list, but that’d be my guess

Question about a couple parts on the bike that I have coming... it is a Fit Spreit (Motorcity Metal color). It lists as having a forged topload stem...aside from someday chamging the stem for different Geometry, what is your opinion of a forged vs cnc stem? Also, I'm thinking at some point, aside from parts that wear out, the main thing I will look into replacing is getting different tires and rims, any input on some of the better double wall rims, or things to look out for? Surely all double wall rims aren't created equal... thanks again for your awesome content!
Alienation Rims is what I recommend, and as far as the stem goes, I’m sure forged would be fine short term. I would not ride one for an extended period of time though. Hope this helps and thank you for being here and for the kind words!
As an engineer who has spent a lot of time learning how manufacturing processes change metal, forged is stronger than cnc because it compresses the metal structure creating strong spots
I got chromoly forks bc my forks are a little bent, but like basically my dust cap for my headset cant fit over it and my spacers and maybe even my gyro plate
idk dude there are some great budget options for hubs and rims if you know where to look. back when i had my first custom, the alex 7000 series feather lights were a good budget option and even came on a bunch of higher tier completes and prebuilt wheels. better chrome the odyssey rims. similar strength and cheaper. that said you kinda really gotta know what to look for or have a really legit shop though. some of the more budget oriented front and rear complete wheel sets that come with a sprocket to convert a bike to micro drive are also decent.
@@Brant_Moore oh i got it but how much tire pressure should i put on my bike?its up to 65 psi and i do around 6-5 staircase jumps and dirt and usually just jumps, bunny hops and riding downstairs
I bought a 2012 wtp versus in 2019 for £40 that's been sat is some kids garage for most of the time. I just put some chain tensioners on it and road it. It's a standard bike but came with everything you mentioned in terms of component specs. I'm just a bit confused when you said only custom bikes are good if your not just starting out (I am by the way, just not a little kid). Keep up the good work!
A custom bike when first starting out can be great. Usually a custom bike has better components than a complete so they will generally last longer. Unless the bike was already beat into the ground from the start.
@@Brant_Moore No prob. 28 and just starting out; your suggestions are consistent with my research. I ended up ordering a 2021 Haro Interstate since I got a decent deal and couldn't find anything used that's not total crap. Haha, he really is. I liked him in the "David Blaine Street Magic" videos and think he does a fantastic job on SNL.
I got a really nice complete bike, and im a beginner, i just want something that will last, its a GT Conway Team Signature with a freecoaster and its lasted me really well, all the high tensile bikes ive tried are garbage to me and feel TERRIBLE, when i try to do a bunny hop the handlebars would bend and it would make an awful noise, i have not had any problems with my cromoly bike.
Depends. I had a 2015 Sunday AM that I jumped 8 stairs with ,hopped off loading docks, etc. After 6 years I had to replace the bars cause they got rounded in the headset ( never snapped) and later that year replaced my rims due to the cassette having problems (they were single wall rims) and now it's custom cause I bought better stuff cause I had the money but all that to say completes aren't all that cheap. Don't think your cranks are ganna snap if you hop off a curb just cause you bought a complete. And if that does happen just start over cause chances are your frame is just as cheap
i have a sunday blueprint and my rear hub is like weirdly loose after learning 180's... the wheel is all normal its tight, but somehow the whole driver has movement and it makes a very weird sound when doing a drop test
It’s probably an unsealed hub. This is unfortunately a side effect of the corners that have to be cut on lower cost complete bikes. I would take it to a shop and see if there’s anything they can do to fix it. But if you can afford it, buying a new back hub of higher quality will definitely set you up for quite a while
Definitely take it to a local bike shop first and just ask them to look at it. If they can fix it for cheap it could be worth it but a new rear hub would be the best route because you’re going to end up needing one anyway
very informative but your monotone approach is making me want to gouge your eyes out to force a different pitch out of your voice box. other than that, good info. thanks
I know I know, I suck at talking sometimes. Its just so hard to fake enthusiasm Thanks for the kind words though and thanks for watching. Ill try to make it better somehow in the future
Dude....calm down, it's just how he talks, it's not bothering most of us. You're just one of those amateur pessimistic RUclips critics who pick apart vids. Go get a better job, maybe go out and treat yourself to dinner, at least find someone to hug you for God's sake.
@Brant_Moore I’ve read online that it means the TT, DT and HT is CrMo and the rest is Hi Ten. I’ll be upgrading my bars and forks to CrMo in the coming months. The bike is a Ruption Friction.
I'll start off by saying that i like your videos, they keep me motivated to try to ride some more. So my question is: if i already have a complete which does all the bad things you mention in the video. Like single wall rims, hi-ten everything, and so on. Is it really worth upgrading it at that point or is it better to get a more expensive complete that is full cromo, sealed hubs and double wall rims? Like i can basically no tricks other than bunnyhop on top of curbs. And by a better complete i was thinking of a tall order one, mostly since they seem like nice guys. Again awesome channel.
Hey thank you!!! So that kind of comes down to your budget really. If it doesn't matter how much you spend, then you might as well build the exact bike you want. If you're on a budget, then buying another complete might be the way to go, or buying a used custom bike. That depends on if you want something that's new.
@@Brant_Moore Thank you for answering. I'm gonna think about it for a while. I really really enjoy riding but didn't expect the prices of bikes going into this haha
Not only skipped over a 3 piece crank, which I suppose is understandable as it's somewhat of a given, but also their available (unsurprisingly) and far better as chromoly.
Hey Brant! I need your input. I’m looking to spend under $350. Framed Defendant offers 💯 chromoly, doubled walled rims, sealed front, rear and mid. specs sound good but I’m Really not sure about buying Framed Bikes? What do you think?
Those specs at that price honestly sound amazing, but I’ve never heard of that company before. Haha I’ll look into it a bit though and get back to you!
Alright so to be totally honest the bikes don’t look terrible but they do look to have somewhat cheap components. The defendant is a 22” bike though, not sure if you knew
Yea, but their site says they're based in the Twin Cities so I'm not totally sure. I suppose it depends upon how willing you are to make a gamble Hope it helps

Hey, I own a BMX. I bought it. Told it was an amazing BMX by my bike shop. They lied. Its all unsealed bearings and hi-ten steel, theyve lied to me so many times while buying parts and ive spent more on maintinance than I did on the bike. I replaced the back mission wheel with a stolen Rampage. And I am converting the bottom bracket. I need chromoly bars and forks
Hmmm, other than the difference between spline drive or bolt drive, sprockets are one of those things that are mostly the same and about preference of the design. Except for guard sprockets. Those can vary a little
Cassette is included in non sealed hubs, but cranks didn’t make the top 5 because most 3 piece cranks that come on completes are chromoly and last longer than the other parts on the list
Honestly, that bike is worth hanging up and starting completely fresh. BMX has come a long way since 1998. Parts have such better geometry now that’s really meant for what we do. They’re made better so they can be lighter and with the most up to date processes.
Have a complete, swap parts, save up them buy a frame. It is easier to progress and you'll eventually have two bikes. You can sell/ trade the other bike for extra cash or if a friend wants a bike you can trade or let them borrow
I'm lucky to have a bike that I got every piece for so I know everything is up to this video's standards aaaand I always come back cause I got buddies that wanna get back to riding something. I tell them bmx cause it's more friendly to your wallet
Almost always better off with aftermarket parts than stock parts. You’re better off buying a bike that is already full chromoly everything. This video is for people who didn’t or couldn’t do that from the beginning.

Good video, man. No bullcrap, I appreciate it!
You kind of look like Mikey Day.
Thank you!! Glad it could help you man.
And that guy is hilarious, I’ll take it! Haha
I love his wild style raps on Wild n out
@@Brant_Moore No prob.
Awesome man, should be good to learn on.
Totally forgot that he was in those! Haha Cheese itz!!
Heck yea good deal!! Glad to hear it
What is faster 52t sprocket with 18t corset?
I have single wall rims on my Bmx. Have had zero issues.. Snapped my bars though, which are hi ten Steel.. We're hi ten Steel
What wheels would you recommend I just bent my wheels on my kink gap?
Alienation has great rims! And just make sure you get sealed hubs
@@Brant_Moore I'm thinking of getting odessey hazard lites or gsport or alienation wheels which do you think is the best for the price?
They’re all good. I ride for alienation and genuinely believe in their rims so I always have to go with them
@@Brant_Moore I think ima get alienation wheels cause there light and strong and my favorite riders like you run them.
Gsport
Bro what is that camera angle you use
What do you think about 'we the people' bikes?? I was thinking of buying one off my buddy. It's a complete
Most complete bikes are very similar. It will last quite a while if it’s 100% chromoly with sealed hubs and double walled rims.
What WTP is it? I have a 2018 Justice and it is a good bike, but the rims do need replacing because they don’t seem to stay straight.
I actually just bought a new kink curb. Love it !!!!
Not a bad choice!
My Hubs my Hubs, in the front and in the back, my hubs they got you...
What’s CNC stand for?
Great video!
Thank you!
Computer numerical control
i have a sunday blueprint and my rear hub is like weirdly loose after learning 180's... the wheel is all normal its tight, but somehow the whole driver has movement and it makes a very weird sound when doing a drop test
It’s probably an unsealed hub. This is unfortunately a side effect of the corners that have to be cut on lower cost complete bikes. I would take it to a shop and see if there’s anything they can do to fix it. But if you can afford it, buying a new back hub of higher quality will definitely set you up for quite a while
@@Brant_Moore ok thanks for the fast reply i gotta look into that. it really sounds and feels horrible
Definitely take it to a local bike shop first and just ask them to look at it. If they can fix it for cheap it could be worth it but a new rear hub would be the best route because you’re going to end up needing one anyway
@@Brant_Moore i was planning on buying a whole new complete wheel with a freecoaster anyways, is that worth it?
It should be worth it in comparison to what you’ve got right now
very informative but your monotone approach is making me want to gouge your eyes out to force a different pitch out of your voice box. other than that, good info. thanks
I know I know, I suck at talking sometimes. Its just so hard to fake enthusiasm
Thanks for the kind words though and thanks for watching. Ill try to make it better somehow in the future
Then get your eyes out. If you are that sensitive and it helps you.
I love monotone voices
Dude....calm down, it's just how he talks, it's not bothering most of us. You're just one of those amateur pessimistic RUclips critics who pick apart vids. Go get a better job, maybe go out and treat yourself to dinner, at least find someone to hug you for God's sake.
Ooo so “edgey”
Great video, thanks man!
Hey always happy to help and thank you!!
Any advice on Trimoly frames?
I’ve honestly never heard of trimoly. An alloy I’m assuming?
@Brant_Moore I’ve read online that it means the TT, DT and HT is CrMo and the rest is Hi Ten. I’ll be upgrading my bars and forks to CrMo in the coming months. The bike is a Ruption Friction.
Ahhh, unless you’re not planning on ever leaving the ground, I wouldn’t mess with any bike that isn’t full chromoly.
Thoughts on macneil bmx brand?
Which parts specifically? They are a legendary brand
@Brant_Moore The Silencer bars
I actually have a pair hanging on the wall. They were alright structurally but the holes ate through grips really really fast
@Brant_Moore Hmm You think some tape around the holes will help?
@Brant_Moore also i texted you on instagram showing a dent in the crossbar you think that will affect it?
Never bought anything expensive yet but my first upgrade was a good helmet
Its not cheap, but its worth it!!!
i have my rim araya it is 18yrs old and its working fine
Not only skipped over a 3 piece crank, which I suppose is understandable as it's somewhat of a given, but also their available (unsurprisingly) and far better as chromoly.
got it, got it, got it, got it, got it but i have a new frame bu i hate the color so im waiting untill i can paint it a diffrent collor
Nothing wrong with that! Get creative and tag me in a picture on Instagram so I can check it out
Ya they just have some what of a cheap feel to me, the logos are all just stickers. Thank you!
Yea, but their site says they're based in the Twin Cities so I'm not totally sure.
I suppose it depends upon how willing you are to make a gamble
Hope it helps
@@jaimeeleeradio do not buy a framed bike i broke basically everything on it literatly
How can I upgrade a standard 1-1/8 headset to a sealed one?
If you have a frame with press in cups you would take out the unsealed bearing cups and put in cups that accept a sealed bearing
@@Brant_Moore Thank you Brant. For your information, I've riding haro leucadia now a day. I have upgrade almost the all part but headset. Because I can't find a solution. Thank you again!! cheer!!
I don't know a ton about these things so I could be wrong, but I hope it helps you and I hope to see you in the comments again!!
@@Brant_Moore How can I show you a picture of my bike?
Instagram
why not aircraft grade aluminum thermal forged ;)
So chromoly is good to have in your parts ? I was confused at first
Yes in the parts that are usually made from chromoly. Parts like stems and sprockets are usually aluminum
I have a complete bike and the only stock parts are the stem the frame and the cranks
Sounds like you've already gone through the list! haha
@Brant_Moore haha that and everything else broke 🤣
Hahaha yep that’ll do it, won’t it?
I have 60$ in my account and I just blew a rear wheel I'm looking for a budget rear wheel any ideas
I would recommend a used wheel for that price.
Any complete brand new wheel you find for that price will not last very long
@@Brant_Moore wow man idk why RUclips didnt send me a notification can decided to thumbs down your comment anyway yeah iv been looking on offer up and all I'm finding is racing wheels like 3/4 and inch wide way to small
What if I have an aluminum frame?
Most stock early 2000s haros have most of that list, and people sell them for very cheap on facebook
i wish i saw this video 3 years ago when i bought a budget bmx bike
What’s wrong with single wall rims
They are fine for just riding around and not doing tricks or leaving the ground but as soon as you start doing those things, they bend very easily
@Brant_Moore thank you. So your saying their good for just everyday riding and little tricks ?
Just started riding on an academy entrant. Interested to see if that is a familiar model to anyone?
I bought the odyssey Lincoln 38mm front load for only $35.99 with s/h from flatland fuel.com
Not a bad deal at all man!
Awesome
Hope it helps!
Plaiton UK LES GOO
General Lee has a lot of this.
The more a new complete bike has of this the better a bike it is and the longer it will probably last!
@Brant_Moore general lee has most of it. He needs a new sprocket though. What would you recommend?
Hmmm, other than the difference between spline drive or bolt drive, sprockets are one of those things that are mostly the same and about preference of the design. Except for guard sprockets. Those can vary a little
@Brant_Moore ok
No cranks or cassettes?
Cassette is included in non sealed hubs, but cranks didn’t make the top 5 because most 3 piece cranks that come on completes are chromoly and last longer than the other parts on the list
Okay your bmx hubs is 6years old but. my bike is older than me. my father bought my bike in 1985 I didn't change any parts
Good video though.thanks. 👍🤙🤘🤡
We need 10 cheap bike hack Brant
Sounds like everything on my GT Performer 98' then. That sucks. 🤦♂️
Honestly, that bike is worth hanging up and starting completely fresh.
BMX has come a long way since 1998. Parts have such better geometry now that’s really meant for what we do. They’re made better so they can be lighter and with the most up to date processes.
Wish I watched this video before buying the bike
Anyone looking for cheap chromoly forks Snafu/hyper make a line of forks called pickle forks there like $40
You should point at areas of bike , for us dumbos lol!
My bike is already got full chromoly fork bars and frame
Abridged Version: BUY A FUCKING CHROMOLY BIKE GODDAMNIT
hahahaha that about covers it
Smash the singles then buy the double walls.
Back the camera up a lil next timr
Thanks. True story ;)
Yeah I had to replace my pinch cranks pretty quick because they would not stay tight and it became a safety issue.
Exactly! Those are definitely high on the priority list! Thanks for watching man
So you want us to build a new bike ?
Its something to work toward so that you have a bike that is safe for trying to do bmx tricks.
Have a complete, swap parts, save up them buy a frame. It is easier to progress and you'll eventually have two bikes. You can sell/ trade the other bike for extra cash or if a friend wants a bike you can trade or let them borrow
What does mean "after market"?
It means not stock
Why is a 5 part list 10 minutes long?
At a certain point of time he says. Because chromoly isn't needed unless you're doing big things..
DEXTER
Hahaha always love when people make that reference!
I've had a $40 bike for ages
I'm lucky to have a bike that I got every piece for so I know everything is up to this video's standards aaaand I always come back cause I got buddies that wanna get back to riding something. I tell them bmx cause it's more friendly to your wallet
My whole bike is chromoly... damn (this is a good damn, not a bad one)
That’s a good thing
@Brant_Moore Ik it was a good damn
OH! hahaha Went right over my head!
This is always about rear wheel. If you ride bmx you gonna know ☠️
wait so just get a new bike?
Sounds like you're better off building a bike rather than upgrading as you've litterally asked for the frame (the bike itself) to be replaced.
Almost always better off with aftermarket parts than stock parts. You’re better off buying a bike that is already full chromoly everything. This video is for people who didn’t or couldn’t do that from the beginning.
