  • A "What if" idea of what The Five Doctors could've been. I'm no VFX wizard but I hope it fires the imagination. Full list of additions and changes in order of appearance follows:
    • Orange Sky in the Death Zone (it is on Gallifrey after all)
    • Frazer Hines (who couldn't take a large role in the special due to Emmerdale)
    • Richard Hurndall swapped with William Hartnell (who would've been 75)
    • Patrick Troughton's hair darkened (and it IS his real hair, by the way)
    • Patrick Troughton's shirt changed to blue (echoing what he wore in his era)
    • Jon Pertwee's outfit changed to what he wore in The Three Doctors (and more prominently on the Radio Times cover)
    • Tom Baker (in his Season 18 outfit which I imagine JNT would've had him in, see Dimensions in Time)
    • Sarah Jane's outfit changed to what she wore in Terror of the Zygons
    • Katy Manning (who couldn't appear in the special as she was living in Australia at the time)
    • Autons attacking Jo (a scene that appeared in the script but was too expensive to film)
    • John Levene (who turned down the offer to appear)
    • Liz Shaw's outfit changed to what she wore in Inferno
    • Deborah Watling (who had to pull out of the special after being cast in The Dave Allen Show)
    • Roger Delgado (who would've been 65)
    • William Russell and Jacqueline Hill (who I don't think were approached to appear, but it's a nice idea anyway)
    • 80s Dalek swapped with 60s Dalek
    • Tegan's dress changed to the multicoloured one from Warriors of the Deep
    • Colin Baker (who would've appeared as Maxil had he been available. The special was filmed before he was cast as the Sixth Doctor)
    • Lalla Ward as Romana (who probably wouldn't have been depicted as a member of the High Council even if she had appeared, but I've done that to echo her fate in future spin-off media)
    • Timothy Dalton (who later played Rassilon in 2009)
    • Colourised Hartnell's speech from The Dalek Invasion of Earth (because that's what I do)

life never pans out like that tbh if Hartnell didn't have failing health would regeneration been used? or would the show died with him? Multi Doctor stories generally don't have a great wham bham script the five doctor original had so much potential but budget affected it

there's a genuinely great moment here when the Third Doctor melodramatically translates the inscription 'To lose is to win ...and he who wins shall lose' and the Fourth quips darkly 'In a pretty permanent sort of way'.

    • @themirrorsofmymind
      @themirrorsofmymind 2 года назад +13

The Fourth Doctor's line is taken from part one of "Logopolis" where he is trying to steer "Adric" away from the notion of them visiting "Gallifrey", saying there'll be endless questions about "Romana II's" decision not to return to "Gallifrey" after the Key to Time mission.
THE DOCTOR: "She has broken one of their cardinal rules. She has become *_involved,_* in a pretty permanent sort of way..."

Despite the fact that I've always loved The Five Doctors I always thought it was a darn shame that Tom decided not to come back. I know his reasoning for it but still it would've been kinda funny for Tegan and Four to meet up and be like "Oh hey it's you again"

  • @DonnaLang42rockglobally
    @DonnaLang42rockglobally 2 года назад +33

I love this idea, especially the thought of both Roger Delgado and Anthony Ainley appearing as different incarnations of the Master. In some ways I wouldn't have put it past Borusa to pit the two Masters against each other, which would have been an interesting twist. With the Delgado Master's influence, maybe the two of them would have united to work with the Doctor... or not.
Also the Fourth Doctor's presence would have been a welcome addition. Especially this exchange -
Third Doctor: "To lose is to win, and he who wins shall lose."
Fourth Doctor (half to himself): "In a pretty permanent sort of way."
Either he would have twigged to the truth earlier than any of his other selves or he's going by his memories of the old legends of the Death Zone and the Game of Rassilon. Either option would have been in character. (And so would the idea of it just being standard Fourth Doctor snark.)
And having William Hartnell alive and well reprising the First Doctor ("the Original, you might say") would have been so beautiful, especially reuniting him with Carol Ann Ford as Susan... I'd like to have hoped it would have been a more heartfelt reunion than the one we actually got with the Hurndall portrayal. (Also I not so secretly wish that Susan could have met the Fourth Doctor.)
Fourth Doctor: "Susan! Gosh, it's been... (pauses, eyes widening a bit) pfft... well, it's certainly been a long time... How are you?"
I'm almost tempted to write a fanfic based on this video. Thank you so much - this is what I wish the actual episode would have been like.

Here is my version of The Five Doctors
The Fifth Doctor, Adric and Nyssa, Tegan, and Turlough are taking a break at the Eye of Orion, one of the most tranquil spots in the universe. In the TARDIS control room, the Doctor, Adric, and Nyssa have just finished renovating the control console, which now has a more hi-tech look. Turlough is sketching. Tegan is enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. It's a change from their non-stop adventures that leave them no time to relax. The Doctor, Adric, and Nyssa go outside to join their friends and enjoy the peace and quiet. When Tegan wonders why it is so restful there, the doctor explains that it is because of the bombardment of positive ions.
Elsewhere, in a hidden chamber, a dark figure - who shall be referred to as the Player - manipulates the controls of a forbidden device called the Time Scoop and kidnaps the First Doctor, Ben Jackson and Polly Wright as they walks through a rose garden. The Player takes a figurine of the First Doctor, Ben and Polly from a window-shaped wall alcove and places it on one of five spots on a diorama, which lights up in response.
Back on the Eye of Orion, the Fifth Doctor feels a pain in his chest but dismisses the thought that anything is wrong with him as Turlough and Tegan, nyssa and adric look worriedly at him.
Elsewhen, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart is at a UNIT reunion. He talks to his replacement friend, Colonel John Benton , about their former scientific adviser, the doctor; it seems that UNIT had been unable to track him down for the reunion. The Brigadier says, "Wonderful chap - all of them" Suddenly, the Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon and Zoe Heriot bursts through the door, having barged past the sergeant on duty, happy to see their old friend. They take a walk. As they walk and talk in the yard about their times together, the Second Doctor tells Brigadier and Jamie, Zoe, that they must go as they are bending the Laws of Time. However, they are snatched up by the Time Scoop. Models of them appear in the wall alcove, and the player puts them in the spot next to the First Doctor, Ben and Polly.
The Fifth Doctor feels another pain and collapses after reassuring Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan, Turlough, that everything's all right.
Elsewhen, the Third Doctor is driving his vintage car, Bessie. He notices the Time Scoop coming towards him. He tries to evade it, but is taken anyway; a figure of him appears in the wall alcove and placed into the next spot on the diorama along side with Jo Grant and Steven Taylor, Bret Vyon and Romana I.
The Fifth Doctor tells his companions he must get back to the TARDIS. There is something definitely wrong with his past, and he is in immediate danger. As he puts it, "A man is the sum of his memories, a Time Lord even more so." He is near the TARDIS when he collapses in pain as his third incarnation is snatched. He tells his companions he has to find "my other selves..."
Sarah Jane Smith is about to leave home. K9 warns her not to. He senses there is danger, and it somehow involves the doctor. He suggests she take him with her. Unfortunately, her car is out of action and she has to take the bus. Believing K9 is overreacting, she dismisses his worry and heads off.
Somewhere else, the Fourth Doctor and Romana II are enjoying a punt along the River Cam in Cambridge. They are Time Scooped by the player as well. He can take figures of the Fourth Doctor and Romana from the wall alcove and placed into the next spot on the diorama.
Waiting at the bus stop, Sarah is snatched by the Time Scoop, and her figurine placed in the diorama alongside the Harry Sullivan and Katarina, Sara Kingdom, Vicki Pallister and Dodo Chaplet.
The Fifth Doctor and his companions have entered the TARDIS. After setting a destination on the console and starting the TARDIS off, with adric and nyssa help, he collapses after feeling his fourth incarnation snatched. He begins fading into the Time Stream, but Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan, Turlough, keep him in existence by encouraging him. The TARDIS lands, and the scanner shows a desolate, rocky landscape - the Death Zone on Gallifrey.
All the Doctors and their companions have actually been deposited on a desolate, rocky landscape - the Death Zone on Gallifrey. Figures of the Fifth Doctor, Adric and Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough have been placed on the diorama section next to the First Doctor, Ben Jackson and Polly Wright have been placed is flashing.

Aside from the things that didn't happen for various reasons; Tom Baker, William Hartnell, Katy Manning and Roger Delgado not appearing in the original, you've also fixed things that could've been done better; the wardrobe for both Jon Pertwee and Lis Sladen, and the inclusion of William Russelll and Jacqueline Hill...how they didn't even appear as phantoms in the 20th anniversary special is unspeakable! The only change I'd make is having Mike Yates be the Brigadier's replacement with Benton as the phantom with Liz Shaw... otherwise, a flawless job.

But what u have done brilliant story wise and ok some edits bit out of sink but done mich better than I ever have done als great featuring William and Rodger back so bravo 👏 👏👏

The Doctor Who wiki actually espouses on that! In the draft of the script written by Terrance Dicks, before Tom pulled out, he would have actually been the only one to betray the other Doctors, as Dicks felt that Four would have been the most likely one to do so.

Fun fact: There were plans to including Tom Baker (the 4th Doctor) and Frazer Hines (Jamie) into the original episode and have them partnered with their former companions (Jamie/2nd Doctor, and Sarah Jane/4th Doctor). It was only when Tom Baker and Hines were unavailable that resulted in the episode's current pairings.

Actually tom Baker wasn't available he didn't want to do it in the end he felt was to close to his time and he was trying to distance himself from who also apparently he didn't like not being centre of attention think he had bit of ego then he wanted more screen time than Peter davison. Apparently tom does regret not doing it. Actor's and their egos 🤷‍♂️🙈

    Bravo.
You very humbly say that "I'm no VFX wizard". Sorry, but that is exactly what you are.
There are any number of excellent VFX professionals (just look at the end credits of a Marvel movie) who could perhaps have done this subjectively "better".
    But could they?
This 2 minute sequence is packed with more imagination and flair than some entire franchises.
There are bits of absolute genius in here, (Colin Baker, an orange-hued Death Zone, the Rassilon Nu-Who reference).
Its also sobering to look at the ages of Delgado and Hartnell. Even when the Five Doctors was first released (I am that old) whilst it seemed a pity that they couldn't be in it, it also seemed obvious; subconsciously I assumed that because they'd passed, they were dead of old age a long time ago.
    But, 75 and 65; that's nothing!
David Bradley is 82 and playing the First Doctor in Big Finish as we speak. If anything Hartnell would have grown into the role, and been more like the physical age he was representing.
For Delgado it just shows how tragically young he actually was when he died.
As others have said in this thread, this is like a peek into a parallel (better?) reality, where all our Whovian dreams came true.

That was excellent Kieran. If there is one thing I would change in the video, it is Jon Pertwee's costume. I recently watched Planet Of The Daleks, and I think he should be wearing the Green Blazer with the brown inverness cloak. That is my vision of The Five Doctors at least and it fits with the color scheme of the other Doctors as well.
First Doctor - Black, Beige, Blue, and White.
Second Doctor - Black, Sky Blue, Grey Flannel
Third Doctor - Black, Jade Green, White, and Light Brown
Fourth Doctor - Red, Burgundy, Purple, and White
Hope this helps. Also, keep up the good work.

    @disneyboy3030 2 года назад +1

Here is something that can help as well.
“Tom Baker didn't appear in the story. He declined to return to his role as the Fourth Doctor, as he felt it was too soon after his departure from the show (a decision he later said he regretted). An early idea to incorporate footage of Hartnell and Baker into the story's action in a way similar to the contemporary film Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid was abandoned in favour of hiring actor Richard Hurndall to give his own impression of the First Doctor, while clips of Baker and Lalla Ward from the (at the time) unfinished and never-before-seen story Shada were used to show only the Fourth Doctor's abduction and return, without any interaction between himself and the other Doctors.”
Maybe you can add the stock footage there as well.

Would you be interested in doing a Day of the Doctor Redux? You can use footage from The Five-ish Doctors for 5, 6, and 7 and change the clothes into the proper costumes!
Though there would be an additional challenge with removing glasses, recoloring hair, and adding a digital wig for Colin.
Maybe you can just keep it simple and only do the scene where all the Doctors react to 11's interior...
