  • In this video, Mike Pitt teaches you an outstanding drill that will help you improve your iron game. If you want to hit your irons pure, understanding that the lead leg is a post that the body should rotate around. The lead leg in the downswing should feel like it is twisting into the ground which will help the body rotate more efficiently. Mike goes over the lead leg drill, where the golfer will drop the trail leg back putting 95% of weight on the lead leg. Not only will this teach the golfer how to rotate, it will produce a ball first and ground second contact.

    I’ve been playing golf for two years now. Im 52 - 27 handicap- yeah you read that right. Recently discovered this drill by default. It has made a massive difference to my ball striking. Loading the front leg. it did cause a bit of reverse pivot, which I had to correct. But once corrected - I can now hit any iron relatively well and address the ball with confidence. I am looking forward to regularly playing in the low 90’s. My contact is MUCH better.

The lower trail back will get torn up if there’s any type of swing in the backswing and sliding on on the way through… anyone experiencing back pain this will help their golfing and their body more importantly!

    Best advice I have heard is start with your weight 60-40 with your weight on left foot. As you take the club away try to keep that weight distribution the same. It stops swaying and generates better strikes

    When would you use the left foot drill and when would you use the right foot drill you showed us in an earlier video? Thanks for putting these out!

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  7 месяцев назад +3

      The right leg drill is more of a backswing drill, this will give you the feel of what it’s like to load the trail leg, which is particularly important with anything above a short iron…. The left leg drill is going to give you a wonderful feeling of learning how to make a little bit of a more centered turn in the backswing, but also more importantly, learning how to rotate around your lead leg through impact which is essential for every club except perhaps the driver( that’s because the driver is the only golf ball that we’re hitting suspended from the middle of the air) the pressure will still hit the front foot with the driver but you will push up and back and at impact you will have a little more pressure on your back foot

    Nice, I like the fact that your heel works toward target a bit in the back swing. Then you shift pressure into that heel purchase until you strike the ball. That to me look like a clog in a gear that notched up a tooth. Without that purchase it wouldn't insure a ball first strike. 👍

  • @Longarmshortarm
    @Longarmshortarm 7 месяцев назад

    if you swing with no lateral movement, what do you start the downswing/transition with? What is the very first action? Having trouble understanding what to do, if it’s not a shift in weight. Thanks man 🙏

    • @frankleemartin54
      @frankleemartin54 7 месяцев назад

      Good question...if the weight is already transferred to the left leg which to me is the start of the downswing in the full swing then your downswing starter is already set up in the one legged drill.

    • @Longarmshortarm
      @Longarmshortarm 7 месяцев назад

      @@frankleemartin54 I’m referring to a regular full swing

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  7 месяцев назад +2

      Good question. A pressure shift is different than a weight or mass shift. With a short iron and the stance narrow there isn’t too much of a pressure shift into the back foot. As the stance gets wider and you make the same turn pressure does shift into the back foot but it’s not because you’ve moved laterally with your upper lower body. it’s simply because you turned around fixed points and you’re set up and that’s what it changes the pressures in your feet. First move is pressure down into the front foot digging) and the core pulling the hands underneath the body and in front of the chest.

    I'm actually really struggling with this but I know its what my swing needs. Where should ball position be? My glute gets fatigued, is that good? Ball seems to be going left.

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  6 месяцев назад

      Gluth feeling a little soreness is good, soreness is different from pain and there should be no pain. For the drill, the ball position should be in front of your left toe.
      On regular swings the ball position range from your sternum to your left shoulder. The pitching should be under the sternum. The driver would be under the left armpit or shoulder, and it would be a sliding scale in between about a quarter of an inch for each club.
      If your boss is going left in, you’re a right handed player, you can try accelerating your lead arm and opening up your lead hip at the same time!
      Thank you for watching!

      There's likely equal amount of torque applied to the ankle joint, if not more, than the knee. The key point for me on this video is that the feet need to move around inside our shoes. This is a small tidbit nobody seems to point out though feeling the lead foot slide almost off the sole of the shoe, or the shoe angling outward and the ankle rolling towards the target a little bit. Great video Mike!!

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  7 месяцев назад

      No problem! The strike will be very solid. However, as you get to longer Clubs, depending on your tendencies, you may see some ball flights that don’t go max distance or the correct trajectory… but it will definitely help train you how to make more solid contact abd rotate around your lead left through impact!

      To hit down on our golf ball when it’s on the ground you should be getting about 80% of your weight on your front foot to make life easier and help the low point be in front of the ball. Having the pressure in your front foot as Liza you to turn your body around your front foot like it were a post

    so, why not always hitting irons like this?

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  7 месяцев назад +1

      Good question! I have actually had some high handicap players do this for the entire round, and have a lot of success. That said, without getting too technical as the clubs get longer with less loft the dynamics of an efficient strike change specifically the angle attack which gets slightly shallower. With longer Clubs, the ability to turn behind the golf bar and load some pressure into the trail in the backswing Creates the ability for a more efficient, strike and a lot more power.
      You can get roughly the same output from one leg with an 9 iron or more lofted club. Although you would get great shots with Clubs with less loft then a 9 iron although you would be hitting them super soft off one leg, you would not be getting the most out of it.
      The longer the club, the more important the role of the trail leg.
      But again, if you’re someone who really struggles with solid contact, this is a fantastic go to drill and a great feel you can do on the course to get more solid strikes more often!
