Took delivery of my 101 on July 5, 2024. Have about 1,600 miles. Agree that ride command is slow to boot, but not a big issue and believe it will be enhanced eventually. Agree that fuel gauge could be improved, but glad to have something. To be honest I’ve always relied on the trip odometer more on all my bikes past and present. I consider the bike cold blooded, but so is my 2016 Gold Wing. I blame EPA. Simple solution, let it warm while putting on gear (ATGATT). Only surprise I’ve had in two months is battery went below starting volts after sitting 7 days. Owners manual states to use a tender. Yes I read the manual cover to cover. Conclusion, none of these issues would prevent me from doing it all over again. The bike is a blast!
People have and whine about issues with everything now. Put them all back to the early 70s to deal with carburetion on cars and bikes, they would lose their minds
The Ride Command is from Polaris ( for those who do not know Indian is owned by Polaris ) and it is used across all the Polaris ATV, UTV, and Snowmobile lines. It is slow to boot up on all of the different applications. The slow fuel level gauge read out is also common on Polaris machines and also common on Triumphs. Indian makes a great product and there are always a few that have issues just like any manufacturer. Definitely keep the bikes software updated and keep in touch with the dealer. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase this or any model of Indian. 👍🏼

Great insight. Thank you. As an Indian sales rep in Melbourne, Australia, working for a company that is also a licensed Loyds tuning company, we are yet to see their tune for the 25 Scout range. However, we do recommend it for any of the Indian range as it does improve all aspects of the bikes from factory settings (after the initial break in period). The difference is amazing! Not so much as a difference in total power increase, however it does take the engines to another level. They don’t run as hot, the idle improves as does the overall performance, idle, and also heat reduction which will extend the engines life whilst not voiding your warranty. Worth the extra coin hands down. Yes, the screen takes around 30 seconds to fully load. For me, at 50+, I’ve always started any bike before putting my helmet and gloves on so it’s not a real world problem. It’s simply an awesome machine, especially the flagship 101 range where you can also configure it to be just the way you like it. Zero issues reported to date and yes I’ve read all of the forums about it and also know you do have the peace of mind knowing that Indian also read these and are working to provide updates during and post warranty period. 👍👍
@@marcusgeorge1825 thanks for sharing! Totally endorse the Lloydz tune! We have 5 Indians and this is the only one without it yet! Even with factory air and pipes we have seen faster, cooler, smoother AND even better fuel economy!
Important notes to add: The low idle you spoke about "could" be attributed to using the wrong fuel. Indian Motorcycles REQUIRE 92 octane gas. And they will run like garbage, including stalling, knocking, etc on 87 pump gas. And also, some people may want, even like, the idle to be below 1,000 RPM to make their Indian Motorcycle sound like a Harley. It's not a good idea to ever intentionally leave it idle that low, as the slightly higher RPM is actually needed to keep good oil flow to the top of the engine.
@@simonfuller7331 😂 that is regular gas in most of US! Although some states even have 85 and 87 is mid grade! We really had to hunt for something above 90 in some areas on our Sturgis trip this year!
I’m at 400 miles on my 101. Only issue I have is a power draw. Didn’t ride it for a week and the battery was completely drained. Now I keep it on a trickle charger now. Will have it looked at my 500 mile service but great bike otherwise
Just bought my 101. The only complaint is having to wait for some of the accessories like the floorboards. I got the luggage rack ( I really don’t want to try to make it a mini-tourer, but i do need a little storage for necessities) and the hiway bars. I'll probably get some more add-ons when the aftermarket companies start selling them! My biggest gripe at the moment is how there is no space under the seat for anything! But, all in all, im a happy camper.
They side the same thing about the Pan America, brought a 2022 Pan Am Special in March 2023. It has had a few problems, but nothing that is a deal breaker in my mind. Problems: 1 - Battery was sitting flat for a long time in the show room, as it was built in January 2022. I replaced the battery, because I got sick of it being flat the next day and the Dealer telling me it was testing okay. 2 - Starter clutch was a problem, needed a second press most of the time. Replaced with an upgraded starter clutch under warranty, there must have been a design fault. 3 - Alternator failed with a loose magnet, caused it to cutout at idle in the city and once on the freeway, It would start again, but needed to have some revs held on to stop it cutting out. It was replace with the 2024 alternator upgrade kit. Took 8 weeks for the kit to arrive in Australia, they said it cost $4,000 AUD, and fixed it under warranty. I'm not going to trade in for the 101, the Panam is my favorite bike, does everything I want in the sports touring, all roads and commuting riding that I do. If I could own 3 bikes, then I would consider it, or if it had been out in 2023, the choice would have been harder.

Hey man. 25 Sport Scout with 101 calibration and S&S slip on. Mine is a limited and does not have the ride command, so no comment on that. 1100 and change mileage and I'm very happy with mine. I had a loopy rough idle for quite a bit of time. Now that I have the miles I do and since doing the upgraded calibration tune it has really seemed to smooth out. The only other little issue I have seen is my gas gauge sticking some while it should be lowering to show less fuel, not to concerned with that though cause it does seem to catch up eventually. Over all it is an absolute blast to ride and I'm very happy with my decision on this buy. * By the way the S&S sounds great but in time I will be going to a full exhaust. Just looking for a different look. I still prefer the 2 into 2 drag pipe looks...... Freedom has one now you can order but it doesn't work with the rear pegs of course, so that was a bummer. However they are working on a relocation kit as you can see from there prototype they feature in the RUclips video sound clipping the exhaust. So i'll be on the look out. Cheers🍻
I've had the bike (2025 Scout Bobber Limited + Tech) stall on me twice for no reason. Once, I fired it up cold and quickly (under 1 minute) pulled out of my driveway (it's on a hill so I was coasting, in gear but clutch in) and it died right as the bike hit the street. (No big deal, just kept coasting, holding clutch and hit start. Fired right back up). The second time, similar situation. Cold start, left the driveway, powered up a hill on my street, then downshifted back down to first before finally coasting w/ clutch in while braking to a stop at the end of my street. It died as I stopped. Again, hit start and it fired right back up. All of this was in the 90F heat of a Georgia summer, so the engine wasn't truly "cold". I've definitely adjusted to let the engine idle a bit while I put on gear before heading out if it's the first time I've started the engine in a few hours.
I'm at 570 miles on my 101, no problems here for me besides the slow startup for the ride command, but I know that can be solved with an update that I heard Indian is already working on. Now my only problem is waiting for accessories to come out for it like a good looking slip on, or some nice locking bags.
The Indian new sport touring bags will work on the 101 with the required license relocation kit and I created a 3/4” spacer to eliminate touching the piggy back shock.
@@devinszopinski9805 thanks for commenting! I totally should have mentioned accessories! That is an issue that again is getting better but I am disappointed Indian did not have theirs ready to go on launch! (Anyone find cables for the 10” Moto risers yet?!?)
I have a 101 and already driven it 3200 miles. You can start it immediately even if the screen is booting up. The only time there is a delay is if you don't have your key and are starting it using the 4 digit pin number.
Biggest problem with all the electronic controls and display is 15 years from now getting replacement parts will be very hard. With the Harley Sportster my bike is 15 years old and all the parts are still available for it.

Of course, it's a machine made by people there are going to be some possible random issues but like you said that is what the warranty is for. Great video, great bike, I really like the 101 too!
I would like to share my experience so far with my Scout Bobber LTD (2025) that I have been riding for 3 100 miles. I have similar challenges with battery drain, fuel gauge/sensor and even some with the cruise controller. For being a new motorcycle I have visit the Work Shop several times, far too many since it is after all a new motorcycle. The visits have resulted in a change of the battery as well of the fuel sensor and a recalibrated cruise controller. The Work Shop did a great jobb, but the Indian Motorcycle Company do not admit any problem with the model. My experience so far is that the battery will not last more than five days without being charged (according to manual it should last at least for two weeks), the fuel gauge is still showing wrong level and range. Last but not least the cruise controller has still minor issues with keeping a consistance speed even on a flat road and minor wind. However if you keeping the rpm over 2 700, the cruise controller keeps the speed more consistence than below. To sum up, I believe that the Indian Motorcycle Company has to do take care of the issues and release a solution to their new owners. Even though the issues it is a great motorcycle to ride.
Mines work fine. It does have some auto shutoff feature if you let it idle too long after firing it up. I think it idles low cause that's how big v-twins SHOULD idle. Part of it's characteristics? It's not a 4cyclinder lol. If you don't give it gas, it does get jerky in low gears especially when slowing down in corners @ 10-20mph. Easily fixable... Just use the clutch and finesse it a bit. Not a deal breaker to me. The biggest issues I've had is all the random check engine lights. But they all have gone away on their own with normal use. I have never felt any issues, just the CEL's on for a cycle or so. After I shut the bike off at my destination, by time I cut it back on it's gone. Been a fun bike for me, above 100mph+ it's very vibratey, it's not a top speed machine, it cruises comfortably under 90mph. Still a very fast and very fun bike for me. From a dig it's quick and agile.
@@vizzle89 thanks for sharing your experiences too! I agree, you want it to feel like a V Twin!! Hope the lights clear up but sounds like nothing serious just odd sensor readings!
I have 3500+ miles on my 101 and have had very few issues Yes the screen is slow the navigation sucks The fuel gauge isn't the best but better than nothing And it definitely runs differently when the engine is below 150° but after that its great I enjoy the crap out of it
I've had mine for a month-ish. I went a week without riding it and it won't start. No power whatsoever. Charged the battery and still nothing. Taking it back to the dealership Monday which I hate. Dealing with Fox Power Sports has been a pain the whole way.
Oh man that sucks! Mine had to sit for 3 weeks and I was a bit worried with this stories but started right up and still running fine. Sorry to hear you are not having that same experience! 🤘
I am 6’3” and have ridden for 2 hours straight. Am a little cramped up after that but believe higher bars would solve that if I started to crush more miles on the bike.
I get tired at about 120 miles, just in time to stop for fuel. I HIGHLY recommend the 10 inch riser bar to put you more upright. Also if you are short, switch to mid controls. Those two things will make it far more comfortable.
It's a brand new 1st-year model. I don't care what company you buy a 1st year model from, or what it is, they all have kinks that need worked out. Now, compared to other motorcycle brands, Indian seems to have far less 1st production year issues. Where Indian has slow or buggy display, 1st year Harleys have engine failures due to poor or improper oiling.
I picked one up about a month ago and should be hitting 1901 miles this week. My takeaways so far: - It's probably the best looking bike I've seen in person, let alone owned. - It is an absolute blast to ride. THE. MOST. FUN. - Ride Command is just a dumpster fire on so many levels. From latency, to slow boot, to the way information is organized, to how the physical switches work, even to the features it brings to the table. It is not good from start to finish and it absolutely is not a reason to buy ANY Indian. - It feels pretty cold blooded and I've noticed a bit of a rough idle but that feels like something that could be resolved with a flash. I'm in Colorado so it might be that the combination of altitude and 91 octane being the best fuel we can get leads to some of the roughness. I just put the S&S exhaust on it and it sounds amazing. Makes you feel like the Maxell guy when you're riding it. Should you buy one? I'd say ride it first and don't sweat the minor stuff people are talking about. I don't regret it in the least, though if I could've gotten a 101 without Ride Command I would have.
I kept thinking that you video looked familiar.... I also live in Palm Bay and have a 2020 Scout 100 Anniversary Edition. I bought the bike in Daytona and I did not know that there is a riders group.

I have 3000 miles on my 101 so far. Normally, I hit the power button first, dress out and good to go by the time I'm ready. I have had it stall on me before, four times now while down-shifting when slowing down. It's a bit scary at first, but once you get muscle memory, you can start it up easy without worry. You will have to click the start button off, ensure clutch is all the way in and hit power again. Other points: I get a gurgle in the RPM at idol, dealer says its normal. This bike only takes 93 gas, so be prepared, she's a high class ho. When filling, there is a weird backwash, causing you to spill sometimes so you will need to be patient and pump slow. I can get 3 gallons in if I'm slow. True Range: 120 miles to be safe. When you get low in gas the dial just says "Range low" it doesn't actually give you miles left before empty. If you are super low, it will start shutting off. I beat this by resetting my trip at each fill. Once I get to 1/4 tank, I fill up. It feels like I fill every 3-4 days. I like the sport mode, but be careful, you get some SERIOUS torque on low end and you will feel like you are going to fall off! Mirrors: I use them up high....I don't like them low because I have to move my head to see the mirrors well...if you move them, up, remove them, switch sides, reinstall and then bolt in tight. This bike is Fk-ing FAST. I can be at 100 in third gear and still have 3 more gears to go. there is always more torque at higher gears, so if you are cruising and need to pass, just add gas. Throttle is sensitive in Sport mode, so hold on! USB is awesome to charge your phone. after some use, I'm relocating controls from forward to mid for more comfort. Adding ten inch riser bar to handle bars because its too low for long distance rides. I've added a sissy bar and passenger pegs and syndicate seat and highway bars. I get compliments everywhere. I LOVE this bike. If you buy one, go ahead and get everything put on then if not, at least order the parts and get it all in one package. I doubted myself at first, but now that I have it, I should have done it from the start. When your ride, it feels like you are on a crotch rocket. I cruise with my Moto club and I feel geriatric in third gear all day. My Harley Buddies are like WTF?! and they don't want none of that smoke. It's FAST. this aint for the faint of heart.
I have a 2025 bobber. I changed the oil and the oil sight glass showed it was fine for a week, but now its no longer showing any oil through the sight. Nothing has spilled out in my garage. Does yours look correct?
The 2025 according to the manual has an oil and filter capacity of approximately 4.5 quarts. Indian does not have a 2025 Scout oil change kit that has five quarts. I reported to Indian 800 number and they are working on a solution
Screens taking 30 seconds to come up is a complete non issue for me. I start my bikes up an 24 Africa Twin a 23 Goldwing and a 23 Chieftain Dark Horse. All have screens that take a few seconds. But they all start without the screen showing. Put your gloves on and back them out of the garage and the screens have all been lit for more than a minute by the time i am ready to go. If it wouldn't let you start the bike before the screen was started it might be an issue if you stalled it but that isn't the case.
All these problems are legit, and I must add to them too: 1. There is some stalling in 2nd gear 2. There is a rattling noise in that mini-fairing 3. The design of the rear fender makes it impossible to upgrade the tire to 180, like for the old Scouts 4. The catalyzer is located before end pipes, so the after market slip-ons will still have a shitty sound 5. There is a 3rd oxygen sensor in the pipes and that will complicate things 6. The menu for changing driving modes is not easily accessible 7. The torque in low range RPM is shitty, a tune is absolutely needed as soon as possible Overall is a very good bike, it is a clear improvement over the old Scout, but they need to address some small problems, and fix the damn supply chain. I am still waiting for the long brake and clutch cables after 3 months since ordering... I do own the old Scout Bobber as well, and I love them both.
@@dropbearmoto Hehe, in US there are no issues with supply chain. In Europe, is a mess, I forgot to mention Europe 😁. Sometimes parts come after 6 months (my wife's small rear bag for her FTR) or 1 year (some cover adapters for my old Scout)...
Supply chain is a joke waited so far 3 months for pillion accessories for my 101 they are telling me it will be another 3 months 6 months for basic accessories is terrible service
That dash was the dealbreaker for me. I’d be embarrassed to be riding with that dash in front of me. Give me an analog tach or a minimalist gauge like the HD street bob. I don’t want any iPhone on my handlebars, be it square or circle.
Does it have a lithium battery? A few manufactures of motorcycles and atv's seem to not like lithium batteries. Even thought older models it didn't matter. Break in theories have changed with new engines.
I did a demo ride on one last week. I was very disappointed. The vibrations seemed really cheap and tinny. The motor is just OK, but it also felt light, buzzy, and cheap. The bike doesn't have a quality feel. For me the ergonomics were ok but overall, this felt like a very small bike that would get blown around on the highway. I also got a false neutral.
Any bike with all this tech will require a battery tender. It draws power. Also, keep the key fob away from the bike when not using. And don't forget that all manufacturers install the cheapest battery from factory. Replace the battery with an AGM. Stay away from lithium.
I wonder why cars do not have this problem, not to this extent. You can leave most cars alone for a month and they will start just fine without battery tender or help of a start boost.
@@Shah_creates Unnecessarily expensive, doesn't like to be drained empty (it ruins the capacity quickly) and doesn't like to be charged when cold. Although the latter part is only a problem if you drive in winter. Good side is that it holds it charge for a looong time if there is nothing draining it, it will be just as good in the spring as you left it in the fall, if you disconnected it from the bike that is.
@@swolepatrol2139 agree. I should have been clearer in the video. The complaint I had heard was the screen is blank riding around, but is not that long to worry about it.
I was looking at these but the closer I looked the more I found that I didn't like. I don't like the throttle-by-wire, the starting sequence, or how computerized everything is. I was hoping it had more of a classic and simple design.
@@logangodofcandy No. It's a good thing you don't speak for me because you have no clue what I'm talking about. Oddly, many of the things you may think make things "not cheap" are in fact what make them cheap. Quality is more important than features. You can make something that does a lot of things ok for a short period of time or you can make something that does a few things very well for a much longer period of time.
Good point on the fuel! This one has been run only on 93! But that would cause trouble!
87 ???? what the fuck it that ???? you might as well run it on chip fat !!!!

They side the same thing about the Pan America, brought a 2022 Pan Am Special in March 2023. It has had a few problems, but nothing that is a deal breaker in my mind.
Problems:
1 - Battery was sitting flat for a long time in the show room, as it was built in January 2022.

I had a loopy rough idle for quite a bit of time. Now that I have the miles I do and since doing the upgraded calibration tune it has really seemed to smooth out.
Hope that goes away with some more miles! Ride safe!

It does have some auto shutoff feature if you let it idle too long after firing it up.

I picked one up about a month ago and should be hitting 1901 miles this week. My takeaways so far:
- It's probably the best looking bike I've seen in person, let alone owned.

All these problems are legit, and I must add to them too:
1. There is some stalling in 2nd gear
2. There is a rattling noise in that mini-fairing
3. The design of the rear fender makes it impossible to upgrade the tire to 180, like for the old Scouts
4. The catalyzer is located before end pipes, so the after market slip-ons will still have a shitty sound
5. There is a 3rd oxygen sensor in the pipes and that will complicate things
6. The menu for changing driving modes is not easily accessible
7. The torque in low range RPM is shitty, a tune is absolutely needed as soon as possible

You call mine archaic, I call yours chaotic. You call mine cheap, I call yours cheaply made. Ironically, your "tech" will become obsolete and unserviceable faster than what you call archaic.
@@jamessouthworth1699 The 101 is definitely not classic and simple that was never the intent! This is the top of the Scout line with high end performance features like Brembo brakes and piggyback shocks that people spend $000’s adding to their bikes! The Sport Scout with no tech packages would be a better option!
You are booting up a computer it can take a little bit ... as for idle they set that to meet government regulations for noise and emissions. A after market flash will change that
@@jamesfenter916 cannot wait to get the tune! In an earlier video I mentioned an employees of Indian told me there is a fair amount of power still in that motor!!
Nah, it’s slower than usual and a known issue for ride command. Should not take that long to boot.
@@BrandonBicasso Yeah I thought Chief was slow at ~20 sec!
@@dropbearmoto man, I just start mine and go 😂. It’ll catch up eventually.

Schwinn =Bike. Ndian =Cycle.
@@yvonnegonzalez5616 😂 I fall into that all the time! In Oz Bike is interchangeable between both! The Schwinn kind usually a bicycle but sometimes a push bike or a treadly depending on where you are from (and yes push bike includes the adult pedal version not just the toddler non-pedal version)!! 😂🤘
It'll still start and ride without the screen on....jeesh
@@cmsuflyboy2 absolutely!!
For me they somehow managed to ruin nearly perfect design on previous gen. The only issue was designwise was a radiator grill... now it's some kind of mix of different design languages
Each to their own but I looked at the Rogue for a long time going back and forth. Second that 101 dropped they perfected it for me!
As you said each to their own. When i was looking for the bike 2023 rogue was nearly perfect design wise. If it looked like 2025 wouldn't bet even on the list... even that command rider looks like after thought angle in weird, why the heck thay plate with "J" takes so much space for no real reason .... terrible. And the most funny thing is that they make on paper slightly powerful bike but on evwn higher rpm compared to previous so it feels same at best or even slower ( but maybe it because of stoch exhaust) because who rides with cruiser at 6300rpm 🙂 On the other hand 101 doesn't makes any sense now because price is too close to chief which is a better bike in general... this gen is kind of lost the route
I’ve had my super scout for about a month now 855 miles. So It does stall almost every time I take it out. Some time 3 to 5 time in the first 5 or 10 minutes of the ride. I asked the service guy about it and he said he thinks it just the break in period and it should stop after a while…
That is a problem after 855 miles, I would push the issue more with dealer and get them to speak to corporate. I understand there is a flash available.
They really wanna give you the harley experience with gremlins on the bike lol
That’s why I won’t buy one. I don’t want a computer, I want a motorcycle. Analog wins every time.

60 miles on half a tank???? Is the fuel tank a cup?!?!
😂 3.4 gallons/13 liters - and that half tank was ridden pretty hard if you watch out which is faster 101 or Low Rider S video! 🤘
It's a really good looking bike but too many gizmos and black box magic for my money..
Black box magic 😂 Analog experience still there if you remove limited and tech packs on the new scout range, but 101 ain’t old skool! 🤘
You get less than 120 miles per tank? Damn. That tank must be pretty small.
@@davecarsley8773 3.4 gal/13 L. That day had been ridden in town pretty hard!
120 solid. 130-140 if you push it, but I wouldn't.

What is the basis for your claim there are more good bikes out there than bad? Great, you need a factory flash on a new bike? Maybe Indian should have done it right in the first place.
@@joe2479 I said my belief is more good than bad as no one posts when the bike does what it is supposed to. I own several bikes across 3 manufacturers and all were massively improved with tune. Every manufacturer is conservative and tunes for EPA regulations not performance or ride ability.
You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. I’ve got to boot up my bike now? There is no escaping this crap.
@@vampiresquid 😂 it’s coming for ya! In reality though you can start the bike straight away and peel out, just that screen stays blank for a while but you sound like someone that is not gonna faze! 🤘
@ Well glad to know it doesn’t need to fully boot to ride. It’s just that I’ve been a software engineer for decades and it feels like I’ve spent a good six months to a year of my life just waiting for a computer to do something when you add it all up! I guess it’s unrealistic to expect that there won’t be a microprocessor in in this glorious future.
I would Not buy that bike on the basis of what people are saying and this video. I would prefer they used old-fashioned dials, I don't need all the crap they add
@@Shadrach666 the dial is not a deal breaker and doesn’t stop you starting the bike. If you like an analog dial you can get that on other scouts

Its a fooking Polaris!. I wouldn't buy their quads or side sides either..
Good with a snowmobile tho? 😂
Polaris is junk
Absolutely correct! Our 2016 Vintage and 2018 scout are tbe worst bikes we have ever had with major recalls and constant problems. Break failures, bad switches, starters and fire risks. I remember when I was not completely convinced about my TBW Screamin' Harley but it's like you said, once you get a nice tuner you can set up your throttle as you like; what I don't like are those new recent screens on Indians or Harleys. I prefer the analog speedos on both my Screamin' Harley and on my Victory....ride on!
@@deckardvostok2203 thanks mate! Tune a must for me now with electronics and the EPA regulations! I agree on analogue too but must admit CarPlay so handy on my challenger when traveling across the country 😂🤘
That absolutely is an issue 😂, 32 seconds from the point where you try to turn the bike on, to the time the bike lets you turn it on 🤡. That's grounds for a recall.
You can turn it on and ride straight away, just will have no display until it catches up, but they are working on a fix to speed it up.
@dropbearmoto yeah that's not acceptable 😒. I absolutely love the bike, but there is zero way as a responsible motorcycle rider that I could financially support any company that ships a bike with such an obvious defect. They need to fix it today and apologise for such shoddy quality control.
