    Pretty good review. I have a RM tnd 500 since 2014 still using it. Had cord issues and I thought it died so bought the RM Tnd 1050 after half day use returned was too big overkill couldn't get refund exchange only. To kinda equal the return I upgraded my Headset, Dashcam and GPS to: RM Cleardryve 220 Skulls black n white, RM Dashcam 500, RM tnd 750. Both RM and Garmin dropped the ball these past years with their GPS upgrades Both have lots of negative reviews. Still using my old tnd 500 next to the new tnd 750 until I get used to the new platform. Lots of good old stuff they left out like the brightness, auto day and night on the old you could select each level of brightness on both day and night with the little shades of grey squares. Also the map view is too tablet like but maybe both Garmin and RM had no choice in order to upgrade processors they needed faster screens platform. WE JUST GOT TO ADJUST AND ROLL WITH IT UNTIL THEY GET IT RIGHT.

    I've used both and I like the rand McNally best but it's gps has not worked well in the past. If you buy a gps that's the one think that needs to work. The garmin gets the job done but it's anal once you set your destination that's the only way it wants to go and it will keep trying to put you back on track which is ok but if you know a better way it does not care it will still be telling you to go the way it wants. The rand McNally would recognize you're going a better way and pick up that route to get you to your destination.

    Hi I’m going to start driving a straight truck in NJ & NY. My biggest concern is staying away from the parkway & certain highways in NY where I can’t drive. Should I just keep my regular car GPS & turn on “No Tolls” on the settings to stay away from the parkway or just buy a truck gps?

    • @jeffjohnson3847
      @jeffjohnson3847 Год назад +5

      If your car GPS will allow you to input your vehicles specs and automatically comply with designated trucking routes for height restrictions, weight restrictions and dangerous goods routes (if applicable) etc then the safety aspect is mostly covered. If you're expected to travel new routes consistently, the convenience of having a GPS designed to provide you all truck related data and locations immediately after you input your destination, just might be worth your money. Good luck!

    I have a Rand TND750. It's about 3 years old and has worked fine. I pull a 45' long, 102" wide, 13' 6" tall 5th wheel camper. I rely on my GPS to avoid height hazards and small roads as I am 70' hitched. Coming home from Myrtle Beach my Rand died, the touch screen stopped working. We called the help line and they were useless. We later found out that there is a class action suit against Rand McNally. I will be switching to the Garmin OTR series, good luck to all those Rand McNally users.

    I personally love the Rand on the search, accurate location, choices on truck stops, fuel and more…but software issues is a most with this gps. It’s time for rand to give us a better lasting gps. Software is great but hardware sucks.
    Garming sucks, searching for address. I work from the states to Canada and is it a total mess. On a route (287 north) I know it kept telling me to go back because it wasn’t a truck route. It’s not accurate for when you are running out of time and needs a truck stop. Also every time you turn it on you have to set the truck info, I don’t know but it can’t be set for good. Hardware is a 💯

      Garming only pro is the hardware and the one I have won’t work now without being on the charger.
      One tips I give you is what I did with my Rand, I bought it at QVC online and they give you option to buy an insurance, so I returned when it die on me, like twice and the last I gave a try to a garming with the same money of the Rand. But I tell you this, many times Rand helped me specially in Canada.

    I purchased the Garmin DEZL OTR1000 (10 INCH GPS) last weekend for $799.99 after taxes it came out to $847.98. For the price I paid for the GPS it is not worth it in my opinion. The device itself does not feel of high quality, the map display is lacks quality as well, there is no weather radar on the map that would be color coded as the Rand McNally Overdryve 8 Pro 2. The GPS also does not allow me to 100% make road changes in the trip planner to manipulate my directions because there are cities & towns that I do drops at which could of saved me driving time, but the GPS always takes me the longest way possible for some reason. I am going to return my GPS & purchase the Rand McNally Overdryve Pro 2 which is less expensive & I get more options & abilities out of it that would suit me best.

    Time will tell but with Rand McNally being bought out a few months ago, Garmin may be better supported. I own a DEZL /DEE zahl/ and the original RND80 8" tablet. If it wasn't for the lack of memory in the RND, that the newer version fixed, I think the RND would be MY favorite. Unfortunately mine runs out of RAM if I try to do more than one thing at a time. But searching along the route for weigh stations, or truck stops, or rest areas, or WALMART.. RND wins. Garmin doesnt have walmart as a one touch preset to search for like RND. And i like the bigger 8" screen. Watching netflix, RUclips, and general web browsing on the RND is nicer than on my phone. Just my 2 cents.
    Oh, and i dont think my garmin overlays weather on the map (temps, cuttent or forecasted precipitation, etc) like the RND, which i use often. Especially in winter

      I've tried that and in my personal opinion, it's not as good as a Trucker Specific GPS.

    Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV 🔴
    "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; [20] but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. [21] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

      I noticed the opposite and found the Gamin to have superior map details over the Rand McNally but that's just me lol. Which Rand do you have?
