**DEAL ALERT** Best Buy has the OLED UHD+ model with MX550 GPU (Dark Green) on sale for $1,299.99 which to me a a great deal. Here is the link: howl.me/chttN577hay ; FHD+ is also on sale for $1,049.99 at Best Buy: howl.me/chD3wSqF0gB That is $200 off.

Btw do you prefer this Dell with Oled over the M1 Macbook pro 13 512 GB version? At costco they also have a $200 discount which makes the price of both laptops to be at the same. I have been considering between the 2, but I need your opinion on this one. Thanks in advance.

Nice PC for it's class. Like the easy access to the insides and the flexibility of doing various upgrades. No soldered in memory and wifi card to limit upgradeability of these components.. Camera was good and microphones sounded clear. Good port selection. No dongles needed unlike their XPS series units. Great review as always.

Exactly. Why all the ergonomically offensive left shifted keyboard setups in order to squeeze in a numpad when those who need one can just purchase a bluetooth or wireless USB nano dongle one for $10. The separate numpad allows for better placement and left or right handed use.

Nice review. I’ve had the OLED Nvidia model for a couple of weeks now and I’m happy with it. For some background, I’ve been using an iPad Pro 12.9 for the past 2 years as my main device but it was time to get a new computer and I want a touchscreen so sticking with Apple was a no go. I’d have possibly bought a HP Spectre instead except they’re still using 11th Gen chips. A 16 inch laptop is bigger than I wanted but they were really good value with some nice deals to be had and as I’ll mostly be using this at home, the size isn’t a major problem. One silly little quirk I’ve found is the Caps Lock seems oversized and I keep hitting by accident. My main gaming is done on an Xbox Series X but I’ve downloaded a few lightweight games in my Steam library and they run fine, but I’ll leave the more intense stuff for the Xbox. It might be just the OLED model that his this feature but mine does use the webcam to unlock the device and that has worked well. Overall I’m happy with my purchase so far and would recommend others at least consider it as an option.

Appreciate the review of this system. I just purchased the OLED version of this because Best Buy had a great deal on it. I'm not a gamer, so the refresh rate wasn't a huge compromise for me, I needed a system that could run virtual builds as I do a lot of work upgrading and migrating people to newer desktops/laptops. Looking to get many years of use due to its upgradability, which was the main reason I didn't purchase my go to brand HP.

    Hey Andrew.
I just bought this laptop and I am just so angry at the ram usage. with the laptop just sitting at ideal state, due to so many services running in background, 35-40% of the 16gb ram is getting used. and as soon as I open a few tabs in chrome, some engineering plans on bluebeam and a couple of other softwares like whatsapp and outlook. the ram usage goes up to 70% and sometimes more. and then the laptop just starts slowing down! I hope there is a way to run a clean windows on this laptop and having all the sensors etc. running normal. Had dell check this out and they just said buy more ram which sounds so ridiculous. I was using more softwares at the same time on my dell G15 10th gen i7 before this and it used to run very smoothly.

I used this Laptop in the OLED-version for a week now and I must say that i am disappointed. The idle temperatures are very high (around 60°C and when charging up to 70°C). Under load the Laptop does not get much hotter tho. The fan is ramping up in random situations and is very loud.
If you buy this laptop dont get the OLED panel. The cooling is the same as in the IPS version and can not keep up with the higher work load the OLED 4K display needs. The Processor beeing a 28W TDP CPU also does not help too.
The battery life is also very disappointing at around 5-6 hours at best. When i do run multiple programs and set the display brightness higher than 50% the battery life goes down to 3-4 hours.
I will now try the FHD+ IPS version with the i5 hoping for better battery life and lower temps.

    • @arandomdudewithhobbies3318

MX550 is just a waste of battery and cooling potential when a rx680m defeats it in all synthetics, equals in gaming, has RT(never thought I'd say nvidia gets destroyed by AMD in RT) and ages even worse because turing and 2gb vram. Even against iris Xe, it scores only 30% higher. 4K OLED for such a price is INSANE, though it will reduce battery life.

Solid review, as usual. Thanks. If the FHD+ touch screen version will get 13+ hours battery life, 9 or so hours mixed use, how much battery life do you think the UHD Oled screen option would get? And would the Oled also be touch? Oh, and regarding the upgradeable RAM, could the DDR4 be upgraded to DDR5, or just a better or more DDR4? Thanks. I think this is the one I am finally going to get. I'm leaning towards the FHD+ touch screen to save the roughly $300 and for the extra battery life, and it still looks like a pretty darn good picture quality, though that Oled looks pretty sharp.

@@MrWh4327782 Thanks to you and to inkisntdry for your replies/input. One thing that concerns me about the FHD+ option especially is that it only comes with 300 nits, while the Oled option comes with 400 nits. This relates to brightness, which it is my understanding the higher the nits the better one can see it in daylight outside (Though there may be other factors too). Now even the 400 nits with this Inspiron with the Oled screen is less than the 500 nits that come with the more expensive high end XPS laptops, but I have to imagine 400 is better than 300. Do either of you, or anyone, have any thoughts on this? Is the higher battery life of the FHD+ worth only getting 300 nits instead of 400 nits? Or should I go for the higher quality, higher nits of the Oled and just accept the lower battery life? 7 hours still isn't bad, though after 3-4 years I wonder if and how much that might drop? Thanks.

I have the same laptop but with the OLED screen and the Nvidia graphics but same 16 GB ram and 512GB storage. I can't wait to upgrade it I hear I can put up to 2TB ssd in it and i think most it'll take is 32GB ram. I could be wrong, if anybody knows if it can take more RAM than 32 from 16 GB would love to know thank you kindly. Overall mine runs pretty warm and I'm currently looking for some kind of stand or something to put it on that pools or blows fans at it really good cause it gets quite hot with my OLED model and the Nvidia graphics that comes with is nothing to write home about to be honest, but maybe I'm not trying to write games or software to test it out fully or cause it gets really warm and maybe its thermal throttling idk. But ive barely really used it since i got it i think if i remember correctly 1 1/2 years ago. I do know the sticker on the bottom says manufacturer 2022. If anybody knows if you can put more than 32 GB of RAM and if it will accept more than 2TB ssd would love to know. Also how in the world do I get my windows and everything over to a new SSD I don't know how to do all that stuff tbh... And to everybody saying it doesn't have a number pad on the right, honestly I would love to have that and always did on my previous computers and laptops. It is pretty cool it has a backlit keyboard though for the price especially when working at night. But like I said I have not much used it since I bought it but I'm starting to get into using it and I want to have more storage building and I think more memory will make it a hair more snappy when using it..

    • @revachoa7165
      @revachoa7165 2 года назад +2

I just bought it for that purpose mostly because of the (fairly) strong CPU and the impressive battery runtime. Just keep in mind that the integrated graphics card is not amazing (if you plan on gaming or resource intensive GPU programming) and that you could probably get a similar model for cheaper if you don't need it to be a convertible
edit: Forgot to mention. One major advantage of this unit is that RAM is not soldered to the motherboard. 16GB should be enough for most CS work but if it does become a problem (because you are say running multiple VMs and a heavy IDE) the option to upgrade is always there.
