Doom Kar en Tuk Music And Behind Scene i need Reaction

A little bit off-topic, but it's id Software pronounced as the word "it" but with a d (/ɪd/). Not like I.D. And Doom 2016 is more like a reboot than a sequel... I think. And I hope you'll react to more Mick Gordon greatness!!! The whole Doom 2016 and Eternal soundtrack is pure perfection! And yes, Eternal had other composers too for the DLCs, they are good too!
Most everything in Killer Instinct. Jago's theme and Omens theme would be a sick double-feature. Those two songs kinda go together. If you choose to listen to them here's a little fu fact: Mick went to Tibet to train Throat singing from monkt for Jago's theme.
Mick is surely a genius. I recommend you to watch his presentation in GDC about how he made the entire DOOM soundtrack. One thing i like from his presentation is since the game is about hell corrupting mars & earth, he thinking to "corrupting" a pure sine wave and made those sick sound.
I love hearing percussions reviews of DOOM music, as a DOOM developer and percussionist for 20 years. I'm still damn pissed I didn't get to be a part of the DOOM Choir for Eternal.
its funny you mention that. this part of the song is a a reference to the classic doom track E2M7. aka waltz of the demons. look it up and it will be instantly recognizable
I love how listening to this track superposes images of videogame ultraviolence and gore into your vision regardless of what you might be doing, so it's an interesting experience to be taking a pee while listening to it.
They threw him under the bus, insulted his work ethic, and kept him under a gag order so he couldn't defend himself. Then after about a year or so, he lawyered up and spilled his side of the story. iD Software and Bethesda messed up big time. Maybe Microsoft can repair the relationship now that they own Bethesda.
I will never forget, before becoming a game designer/dev myself, working in gaming retail, and a teen coming in and just wanting an honest recommendation for a new game to play. I was flattered he would just buy a game solely off of my opinion, so I gushed about DOOM 2016, and the music in particular. I didn’t see him for awhile after that, and when he finally came back in, he just said a few words: “I can’t stop playing it, man. Dude…”BFG Division” man. Thank you.”
So that whirring, shriek like noise is actually a modulated chainsaw and it’s present in the first drop, it’s crazy how such a haunting noise can go under the radar if you focus on the more musical elements in the song, such a genius
It's not. There's a ton of rumours going around about where chainsaw was used in the soundtrack and it's actually much rarer than people think. That lead is "just" an old Russian synth Mick happened to be able to use
@@uncroppedsoopi heard something about him actually using the chainsaw noise from doom 1 for an ost. not sure if it was for 2016 or eternal, but i guess that was probably also untrue?
@@danielrosa9502 yeah he did it for 2016 with a plugin called morph, I don't recall any instances of him doing it in Eternal. instead, that one has Cultist Base which basically _is_ modulated chainsaws working like guitars
That section you gave extra praise to where the song shifted from triplets to the "1-2-3-4-5s" was a direct reference to the 1993 Doom track "Waltz of the Demons" So it's not just an awesome shift in the song, but it's also a nostalgia trip.
I am not a composer not a musisian in any way shape or form, still i watched all of his conference that is on RUclips about Doom 2016, these speechs blew my mind multiple time in row all the while being funny and entertaining.
Insane is that till 16:30 is still part of the build up, Mick pulling two concecutive fake drops on us and it all sounding organic without the usual feeling of "missing a step" that a fake drop causes.
The initial buildup brings to mind someone clenching their fist so hard they're trembling. And the quiet second before the main section is the moment where your conscious mind is catching up to the punch you're throwing. Now I wanna go to Mick's video and name the sections...
I don't listen to rock music, I don't like it not only in terms of vocals, but also in terms of the severity of the composition itself, but when I heard BFG Division, I immediately just fell in love with it, it's very cool.

Some more music recommendations (In order of preference): -Terraria Calamity OST (By DM Dokuro) -Taken King OST (From Destiny 1) -Beyond Light OST (From Destiny 2) -Black Clover Openings -Metal Gear Rising OST
What i love about the triplets is that it really gives the song alot of THICC momentum, you really feel like its dangerous to get in the way of the song, its just gonna trample you down - which thematicly works so damn perfect with the game.
At 18:50 , I feel like this is supposed to mimic like gun jamming or an "out of ammo" feel. I'm not sure it was intentional or not but I'd like to think it is, what a badass way to end a song
you need to watch his talk about how he made the songs, doom: behind the music i think its called, some of his setups are absolutely insane, he pretty much did all the effects analogue.
Loving the DOOM reactions man! If you want to keep doing DOOM, I really recommend Flesh and Metal. Although id also like to second all the Metal Gear Rising:Revengeance suggestions. The music is top tier.
As many times as I have played both of these games and listen to this soundtrack I can't believe I just now am realizing that Mick Gordon not only took soundtracks and third party media outside of Cinema to a new level but also composing of music itself because not only did he have to mainline a eight-string lead guitar but also had to have the guitar neck custom made wider to accommodate the two extra strings making hitting certain notes even harder due to the distance being further away from your fingertips because of the wider neck. I am now convinced Mick Gordon has earned his place in the pantheon of Legends in his genre and also has earned the right to stand shoulder to shoulder with artists that I consider inspirations and milestones in the development of rock and roll as a whole. Mr Gordon, your spot in the Valhalla of metal awaits you 🤘😆🤘
This soundtrack alone made it super easy for me to make people understand why i love metal. They won't love it after but when they hear this, you can just see them jam out. Some people I know starter dabbling more in other music thanks to this
I know you already saw the first opening song for Jujutsu Kaisen in your second anime op reaction vid, but I’d highly recommend you check out the other op and also the endings of that show. Really great contrasting styles and vibes between each song, and they’re all really fun to listen to.
mick Gordon is truly a genius.doom soundtrack is soo epic its like 50% ost +50% game. ever since doom 2016 its on top of my music playlist all the time.didnt found anything like it yet
That insane fill with Doomguy pulling the demon into the air, to blast him in the abdomen, on that tom roll, followed with that single massive snare hit on the shotgun....I just....how many times did I replay that? Yes.
This is probably obvious to say but one of the reasons I love these types of reaction videos is that you have a proven master of his/her craft watching something you feel really excited and passionate about who can justify your passion and excitement. In this case DRT breaks down why Mick is so talented and creative and shows an equal level of appreciation for a song I've often played on repeat on my way to work or when I work out. Love to see it
4:57 I hear you. That was always the hardest part for me to ever play/learn to play guitar was controlling the tones off the amp. Why I switched to acoustic mostly and just play for fun :) Great reaction
That 'faint little bottle metallic sound' you heard is the alarm sound of the ingame BFG whenever you've fully charged it in alt-fire mode. Drains a LOT of ammo but causes and even bigger bang!
The Doom soundtracks are super popular, but you do have to check out Mick's stuff for Killer instinct at some point. He had an idea to make every character theme unique and relating in some way to the character by using different instruments and styles etc.
I have listened to every reaction to this song I can find and you are the first person to catch every aspect that makes this song amazing. Most reactions boil down to "Whoa! This goes so hard!" at most, "Look! He's doing Triplets!". I think it comes down to your attention the rhythmic and melodic variation being woven together that really impressed me. Thank you for this awesome reaction!
The game is great because the music and ripping and tearing goes so ungodly well together, maybe watch the first combat area of doom? It ends in the title drop with sick beats
It was one of the first games that used layered music that fits what is happening on screen. Not just "You fighting now" but the level of fighting, the enemies etc. There is a make-off of Doom. It's nuts how complex the systems are. That's why it always seems to fit perfectly.
The music definitely has the Doom feel. I remember back when it was midi files that sounded different on other computers. My personal favorite soundtrack was Doom 64, done by Aubrey Hodges. Completely different style from most Dooms, but it had the feel.
What a great video, thanks for being so thorough in your explanations to someone who doesn't understand much of what's going on "behind the sound". Liked and subscribed!
I think you’d absolutely love the undertale soundtrack, it is from a game and it’s very 8-bit but there’s a plethora of tracks that just have such individuality and seem to transcend those notions of what that sound is like. they each contribute so much to the imagination with the emotions they invoke, and I think it would be super fun to delve into them as a video my guy, get this comment to this man’s attention asap
A fascinating thing to remember is it's a song on its own BUT it's built for a level in a game with the premise the player can be in that level for 1:30 or could hang around for 5+ minutes vibing and it'll sound good when ever you join or leave the song and you can loop it at almost any time
so I've just noticed, the kick drum during the main "chorus" part if you want to call it that, there are two different drum sounds/rhythms that are being played. There's one louder one that's playing a more classic rock 1-3 kick snare pattern, and one quieter one that's driving straight 12/8/triplets to support the guitar and bass transients.
Great track for one of my favorite games of all time. I played the hell out of the OG Doom in 1993 and i can name many of track from Doom and Doom 2 soundtrack. Then when this absolute legend of a game came out with an outstanding soundtrack i was so happy.
15:30 you mentioned it broke from the triplet structure to a quarter note rhythm. I believe that melody is also a throwback to a riff from the original 90s Doom games
Fun Fact I like to tell people about BFG Division, I have the 1st games soundtrack on Vinyl. Playing this track, I can't turn it up too loud or else it causes the record to skip itself due to the bass.
Awesome breakdown! You should check out Mick Gordon's Cinder's Theme (Inferno), it's for another video game remake from the 90's called Killer Instinct. I believe he was a collaborator on the soundtrack for season 1 and 2 of Killer Instinct (2013)
While Mick's Doom soundtrack is absolutely stellar, I feel like his soundtrack for Wolfenstein: The New Order is severely underrated, it barely gets talked about despite being just as excellent as Doom's (just less metal overall)
Even from the earliest days of DooM the music has always been in our faces. We all thought it was 'beyond' back then. Not only does id Software just push your desktop systems to the graphic redline but the music production has just kept in toe with their awesome FPS gameplay.
I think that the guitar silence during the clean snare hits of this song are very smart. Both the guitar and snare are punchy AF in their own alternating time. It almost feels like the guitar is sidechained to the snare
This track gets me every time... always love checking people reviewing his work. You should check out his GDC talk on his production process on the music for this game 😀
If you want more Mick goodness I would recommend Killer Instinct's "Hinnamatoom" or "Warlord". I also would like to second the notion of everyone saying Guilty Gear Strive's character songs, i would recommend from that one "Alone Infection" and "Let Me Carve Your Way". Amazing reaction as always.
Like the detail of ur explanations, very metaphorical, even though I don’t now much about music. The new doom music is my favorite with the music from GOW, so very nice to learn this. Have a nice day.
Just discovered your channel, had to see if you covered this one. It's my favorite song, and nothing gives me more pleasure than watching other people discover it for themselves
Hey Tony great reaction! One thing I would love to suggest you react to is "The Rain Formerly Known As Purple" by Chris Christodoulou. Its a soundtrack for a game called Risk of Rain 2 and was inspired by Prince's 'Purple Rain'. It's just under 8 min long so its a long one but its good.
Just a quick thing for you it's not "I.D. Software" it's "Id Software" like the Id and Ego from Freud's psychoanalytic theory. The Id was theorised to be the primate and instinctual part of the mind. Which definitely fits the kind of games they make!
I know its a bit different but about a year ago someone made a video dissecting the music from the earliest to most recent doom games and how its evolved over the years. Its called "Understanding the music of doom' by Liam Triforce. Its a pretty in depth video and I think you'd enjoy it.
Being a musician myself, the way you explain everything is very good. When I throw out "du gu du da" to my non musician friends they look at me like I'm a dumbass
I'd like to point out that the synth on this track sounds like a rework of 'the demon's dead' from doom 2, itself a rework of 'after all(the dead)' by black Sabbath.
This song is only half the story, in the game, it's all adaptive music. So everyone who plays the game, WILL get different sound tracks, cuz good ol' Mick made THOUSANDS of pieces of music.
BFG Division babyyy! I'd really recommend his presentation of how he made the soundtrack of DOOM and his live performance at the Game Awards 2016 when DOOM 2016 won best music and sound design
mick Grodon held a talk at Gamedev con (gdc) that was really interessting. If you dont wanna invest the time to watch it, here is the biggest thing he said at least for me. "In order to trive as an artist, you need an enviroment where you are comftable to fail."
If you like this song, you should check out the version with vocals by Alex Terrible (Slaughter to Prevail vocalist). Alex wrote lyrics and did "demon vocals" to fit perfectly with this sick track.
Decided to throw some more video game soundtracks into my working (software dev) playlist. I was worried the soundtrack would be a little too heavy for me, at least while working, but happy to report that this song A) has become one of my favourite songs of all time and B) I get into some of my best "flow" when this song comes on.
You should do the Overlord Openings and Endings. You already reacted to the first Opening in a best anime OPs video. But literally all of them are good.
For 60 bucks you get a Mick Gordon album that comes with a free game! The really amazing part is that the song is composed in segments so it can cue up to the action of the game. Since each player will play the game different, the style and tempo segments match what you are doing in the game then.
Yessss, I'm glad you did (IMO) the best songs from each game. As I said on the other video's comments section, Doom 2016 with this and the entire OST blew my mind with the music, but Eternal's evolution blew it all over again with All They Fear Is You, Meathook and even I think there was BFG Division II or something.. Both amazing OSTs. Do Blood Swamps from DOOM Eternal's first DLC, its a good song example of when a game has to change to another artist and try to find someone worthy of the original music.. And they chose the only person who could come close, Andrew Hulshult.
8:23 reminds me of Resident Evil Soundtrack of the first movie. iirc it was the Manson song? the one they play when that merc soldier woman gets engaged first.
Almost reminds me of the minimal music wave in the 60s. Mick Gordon turned the metal community on its head when this game came out. Pretty hilarious that one of the most stank face inducing albums of all time is a game soundtrack
Ive been hating on the direction that the newer Doom games have taken but the music is so well done and shows that at least Mick had passion for what he did for the project, that I almost might possibly perhaps think about maybe trying the games once again

There's one louder one that's playing a more classic rock 1-3 kick snare pattern, and one quieter one that's driving straight 12/8/triplets to support the guitar and bass transients.
Fun fact he’s born in my state!
NEXT TIME : RAIDEN THEME FROM MÉTAL GEAR RISING REVANGEANCE
I agree, one of the metal gear rising ost's
omg YES!
Dude there’s so many tracks from the MGS franchise as a whole he should react to
Great track for one of my favorite games of all time.
Surely follow this with the Alex Terrible vocal overlay! Possibly the most metal thing I've heard for a while.
Link please and thank you 😊

I can only +1 that this is the most metal thing in a long time.
Something about the marching world and metal music. The writing definitely comes from the same musical mindset. Great video!
As they would say in my town: "that song was made with blood, sweat and tears... oh, and a chainsaw."
You need to react to the Demon Vocal Cover of BFG Division next, by Alex Terrible 🙂
16:32 that drum fill to the drop will never get old for me. It’s absolutely glorious.
As good as the music is, when it's paired with that incredible video, it just takes it to another level. The editing is amazing.
Im taking a music theory class so having you go over cords, notes, rythim and beat is a joy ! Thanks!
It's my favorite song, and nothing gives me more pleasure than watching other people discover it for themselves
moreee please, love your deconstructions and your ability to replicate the sounds
You go back as much as ya want, Coach. Loving someone gets us band geeks.
I know its a bit different but about a year ago someone made a video dissecting the music from the earliest to most recent doom games and how its evolved over the years. Its called "Understanding the music of doom' by Liam Triforce. Its a pretty in depth video and I think you'd enjoy it.
That sounds amazing
Being a musician myself, the way you explain everything is very good. When I throw out "du gu du da" to my non musician friends they look at me like I'm a dumbass
I'd like to point out that the synth on this track sounds like a rework of 'the demon's dead' from doom 2, itself a rework of 'after all(the dead)' by black Sabbath.
That's good information
This song is only half the story, in the game, it's all adaptive music. So everyone who plays the game, WILL get different sound tracks, cuz good ol' Mick made THOUSANDS of pieces of music.
BFG Division babyyy!
I'd really recommend his presentation of how he made the soundtrack of DOOM and his live performance at the Game Awards 2016 when DOOM 2016 won best music and sound design
Next VILLAGE OF WHISPER from Killer Instinct by Mick Gordon has a really good eastern horror mix with metal is Genius
Loved this review. Definitely the most in depth review ive seen so far
mick Grodon held a talk at Gamedev con (gdc) that was really interessting. If you dont wanna invest the time to watch it, here is the biggest thing he said at least for me. "In order to trive as an artist, you need an enviroment where you are comftable to fail."
I like how his fake out un-drops keep you off balance. You can never really get comfortable feeling like you know what’s coming next.
Since each player will play the game different, the style and tempo segments match what you are doing in the game then.
the soundtrack for risk of rain 2 is another really good game soundtrack you should defiantly give a listen too.
Now you should definitely check out the «Mick Gordon - Meathook». It's perfect
Your analysis is incredible my dude - keep the videos coming!
That whirring melody crescendos the last time it appears too. I've never heard anyone comment on it and it's my favorite part.
Where it ascends up a Minor scale but with a flat 4th? I fucking love that part
Need some metal gear rising ost reactions!!!!
immediately threw you a like when you delved into Mick's background instead of just playing a song and saying "woah so crazy,... pls like n subscribe"
That eerie sound is somewhat like from an old horror movie. But You don't play in a horror movie - You are a horror movie.
Started off as a Jazz Musician? Now it makes sense. They love the syncopation but when Mick brings it to this Argent Metal, it just slaps.
Ive been hating on the direction that the newer Doom games have taken
but the music is so well done and shows that at least Mick had passion for what he did for the project, that I almost might possibly perhaps think about maybe trying the games once again
