8:50 to 9:00 in my opinion, is one of the most brutal yet beautiful changes in note I have ever heard in a piece of music to this day. So short and simple but damn is it effective to my emotional and physical states. I've tried selling this to people for years, it needs to be heard in full to be fully appreciated. Marty O'Donnel's score for the Halo games will always be my favorite videogame music, but I think Doom takes a close second. It's just so dark and energetic, I love it!
@@readytopay6969 He and the other Infinite composers did a great job in recapturing and expanding upon the vibe of Halo's original music, but I generally prefer Marty's score.
The drums at the end sound like a rhythm for a military cadence. The voices at the end yelling "rip and tear" I remember reading were many prominent artists in the metal scene that Mick Gordon was able to get for that part. An interesting note is that Mick Gordon succeeded in creating Doom soundtracks that absolutely fit the modern Doom games and even feel modern but there pretty much isn't a song he did for them that doesn't pay homage to the original soundtracks of the first two Doom games and even the theme of Doom 3. He has weaved sometimes multiple rhythms, harmonies and melodies from the original soundtracks into his songs so anyone who absolutely loved the music in the originals and listened to them for countless hours will not be able to avoid feeling the nostalgia. Even this song, I heard two or three parts that were callbacks to the original games though I wouldn't be able to tell you which songs he took them from off the top of my head.

Man, you're just like me when I listen to music. I always am analyzing it in the back of my mind even if I'm not really that knowledgeable of music theory terms and stuff. I'm just a violinist lol. I found out the chant at the end of the song, was performed by a choir of heavy metal singers. Apparently they did an open call for heavy metal singers and then recorded the part. So cool. Also, love your reactions/breakdowns dude, keep it up!
There's a video on the GDC (Game Developers Conference) channel where Mick Gordon talks about how he composed the 2016 Doom soundtrack - It's really interesting if you have the time.
Damn, this made me think you should react to the entire Undertale/Deltarune OST. Would be insane to hear all your knowledge while hearing those tunes. I kinda feel it would be a lot of work tho since the OST is kinda long so it may be better to pick certains tracks and not the entirety of the OST.
Every time I listen to this song, I couple it with "Sam's Base", because it's basically the first half of the song. If you ever want to get pumped, that's a good way to build to this!
Loving your videos, man !! It brings me back to when I was in drumline and studying music. If you like mashups, Pluffaduff’s channel does wondrous ones, specifically, he mashed this track with a certain Soulja Boy song and it goes unfathomably hard !! They’ve also got a mashup included B.o.B. by OutKast that changed the song for me forever !! I’m wondering if it’ll have be same effect on you !!
The best part about Mick Gordons "percussions" as you describe it (4:14) is literally just a sine wave. A sine wave and 4 parallel channels of different effect pedals, small practise amps, a tape-to-tape reel and various other interesting things All summed up on a mixer and compressed to, excuse my wording, hell He did a talk about it on GDC, and there's some rather interesting things even for non-audio engineers
Wow, I've listened to this song more times than I count but I guess but I'd never been able to hear that they're saying "Rip and tear!" (also a song from the game 😅) at the ending before. I thought it was just supposed to be a scary, unintelligible horde of demons marching after you. Great review!
OMG I was waiting for a new Doom track reaction for a while, no one did it recently. And I've basically watched every single reaction of doom tracks from the reactors 😂. And the best thing is that u are one of my fav music reactors cause I like the breakdowns!
As one of those people who enjoys this kind of music but isn't a musician myself I'd heard the term syncopation but never understood what it was. Very interesting tidbit, I'll have to keep an ear open for that going forward
Hey man, found you in the realm of JoJos, now we're here hahah So, I'm an arborist, I use chainsaws every day. The use of chainsaw in the soundtrack is nothing short of genius, accidental or not. At some points, I can hear the rpms of the engine used as synth. so, naturally Mick throttles up alot to mimic the action, using different sizes of engine for overall tone. I cannot express my level of concern when in Cultist base in game I entered an arena to the tune of a saw redlining, it really sets the overall ambience to a knife edge. I think you'd dig playing, if not just listening to more of the soundtrack. The game sounds are mixed in a way to fit into the music, as well. It will even change instrument sets when you swap weapons. Anyway, love the work, thanks!
I find it interesting that you always assume most of your viewers are already musicians. I have no idea but I have no clue about anything your saying but I find it interesting to listen to someone break down something in depth that they cleary understand and have a passion for.
The DOOM soundtrack and the band Dir En Grey is the only music I will listen to when cleaning my house. You need that aggressive energy when combating the dirt! The same goes for workouts. I swear my mind could lift a car with this in my ears xD My body maybe not.
Would love to see you breakdown the couple Valorant video game music videos! Riot kills it with their league of legends cinematics and music as well. :)
love these videos, have you considered doing sort of like a music for dummies video like I've heard you use words like syncopation, four on the floor, 6 something, have you thought about doing a video explaining stuff like that?

Could you join the discord and help me out with links?
1:03 universal reaction to that bass-line.
Every time I listen to this song, I couple it with "Sam's Base", because it's basically the first half of the song. If you ever want to get pumped, that's a good way to build to this!
There is a gamescon walk by Mick about he made the music including a vfx plugin to integrate a chainsaw into a guitar riff.
When the devil comes with his demons someone needs to blast this song on all the loud speakers around the world to get us all pump up to slay
that "keyboard" effect was Mick Gordon in the studio with a rusty chainsaw! Check it out! SErisouly, Mick Gordon is a f%$king genius!
Yes finally some DOOM!! I also recommend you to react to the mjolnir mix of the Halo Theme
Welcome in fellow drumline player
The best part about Mick Gordons "percussions" as you describe it (4:14) is literally just a sine wave.
A sine wave and 4 parallel channels of different effect pedals, small practise amps, a tape-to-tape reel and various other interesting things
All summed up on a mixer and compressed to, excuse my wording, hell
He did a talk about it on GDC, and there's some rather interesting things even for non-audio engineers
If you ever feel useless remember there is an option to mute the music in doom
You should definitely listen to Metal Hell and Meathook, also from Doom Eternal and composed by Mick
this just makes me appreciate his music so much more!
Mick Gordon is on another level.
As one of those people who enjoys this kind of music but isn't a musician myself I'd heard the term syncopation but never understood what it was. Very interesting tidbit, I'll have to keep an ear open for that going forward
Hey man, found you in the realm of JoJos, now we're here hahah
So, I'm an arborist, I use chainsaws every day.
I wish more people reacting to stuff were as analytical as you :D
"WHY does it thrash?" exactly!
FINALLY i found a guy that LISTENS to the song
Thank you.
Great vid man. Truely love the modern doom music. If you want another great doom theme you should check out BFG devision
Glad I found your channel through chainsaw man love your style of breaking down the music
Just dropped a new song and also dropping a music video this Sunday ! 💙🙏🏾thank y’all
This song is relentless.. always building to something
I find it interesting that you always assume most of your viewers are already musicians. I have no idea but I have no clue about anything your saying but I find it interesting to listen to someone break down something in depth that they cleary understand and have a passion for.
Love the video such good descriptions of musical theory, incidentally you look like a slightly older Summit xD
You gotta listen Meathook track from Mick, YOU GOTTA, the energy delivery is CRAZY.
You might wanna check out and react to Bury The Light - Vergil's Theme. Absolute masterpiece.
Post 2 of asking Tony. You should really consider reacting to the "Sing my Pleasure" both regular and Grace version!!!
He was specifically asked to not use a guitar, so he used the next best thing.
Another breakdown I watched talked about the dotted notes contributing to synchropation
RUN!! by takeshi ueda. it's the sabikui bisko theme (but not the opening. it's strange. it just pops up sometimes, but it kicks a whole lot of ass)
If music can give you nightmeres this, is the song that does it
Please react to Bury the Light from the Devil May Cry 5 soundtrack!
Same wish!
6:16 if i'm not mistaken, i think that's the part where he said he used a lawnmower for the sound
You need to react to Bury the Light! You gonna love it
alot of the songs in the doom eternal sound track use powertools like chainsaws put through a synth
The DOOM soundtrack and the band Dir En Grey is the only music I will listen to when cleaning my house. You need that aggressive energy when combating the dirt! The same goes for workouts. I swear my mind could lift a car with this in my ears xD My body maybe not.
😅😅🤘🤘
Doom Eternal is an album that comes with a game
Ok now Meathook , Super gore nest and metal hell
Guitar? Word has it, thats a chainsaw.
you HAVE to react to more of the DOOM 2016 soundtracks and DOOM eternal. I recommend the super gore best and rip and tear!!!
Sick react! Gotta react to BFG Division also by Mick Gordon
I love this one, i think you're going to like Shadow Warrior 2 main theme
I like your videos cuz they're not just a REACTION ♥♥♥
I Recommend listening to Ludwig the accursed & the holy blade from Bloodborne, love your analysis.
His music from katana zero, have you gave them a listen?
Would love to see you breakdown the couple Valorant video game music videos! Riot kills it with their league of legends cinematics and music as well. :)
Listen to the Demon Vocal Cover of Alex Terrible 😀
that is actully not a guitar it is a chain saw because ID software reqested him to not use a guitar for doom eternal songs.
Check out BFG division by mick gordon I think it was in Doom 2016 my fav song from the series for sure
A reaction for bury the light would be cool(DMC 5)
This music makes me kill demons then realise my PC isn’t booted up yet.
love these videos, have you considered doing sort of like a music for dummies video like I've heard you use words like syncopation, four on the floor, 6 something, have you thought about doing a video explaining stuff like that?
You should listen to Cultist Base, another banger from Mick
this is the type of music I listen to when playing chess
