I absolutely LOVED what you did with the Classical remix and I really wanted to see a Funky remix for this one and I’m glad we got one at the end! What I love most about this song is about how it’s electronic sounds are so reminiscent of the original 90’s DOOM soundtrack. It sounds so old and so new and goes to show how far technology has gone so that we can put entire orchestras into video games when back in the day, we could only have one instrument that played the most simplistic keys imaginable to give that same feeling our orchestras do today. It honestly sounds like Mick Gordon wanted to remind us of the theme and beat that this entire song was built upon, the foundation of this new DOOM and it’s soundtrack. He wanted to remind us the spirit of this old track, and he wanted to keep that spirit while improving the entire body. It’s absolutely genius. I mean, if you turn it into an 8-beat track or something, I bet my life and then some that it sounds like a 90’s DOOM track. Genius!

The dopest thing about the DOOM Eternal tracks is how they layer in and out depending on the on screen action. It feels pretty incredible in game.

Thank you for mentioning the Killer Instinct soundtrack! I'm a bit dissapointed that most people only seem to know Mick Gordon for his work on DOOM 2016 and Eternal. @@KainYusanagi what failing to meet a project after multiple extensions to the time and missing them all. Then having someone else do his job and then slandering that person and the company. Yeh he was in the right.
This was awesome. Definitely the best reaction to this tune (and I have seen a lot.) I’m absolutely loving your format. Very unique and pops off the screen. Wonderful job with this.
Among many things, this is a tutorial on how to do a react video - He is not just reacting to a song by pausing and saying omg, that was awesome every now and then. Instead, he gives an in-depth analysis of minute details while giving us multiple variations of the song and how this song could have been in other popular games. Just like the song itself, there are so many layers to Alex's videos that you end up just wanting more! Great Work, Brother!
The slayer is the embodiment of all the righteous rage and fury that the innocent have ever felt at the hands of those that would take advantage of the helpless. He is unending, unyielding, ETERNAL!!! This song is definitely the song that gets played over the megaphone as the helos crest the horizon just before the napalm hits and feel the thumping fear in your chest as the cavalry hits the ground and shreds everything in its path!
I only knew you as "the groovy cover guy with cool shirts" until now, man this is probably the best reaction-type video I watched. The way you explain and mix it up with snippets of covers is really great!
nah, that's a synth. the chainsaw was used for those droning sounds like at 9:27 in the background. you can't really control the pitch of a chainsaw unless you spend a stupid amount of time sampling it.
I highly recommend checking out Mick's GDC talk on Doom 2016's sountrack. He goes a lot into the production and his decision-making. Also: something that you don't get out of the soundtrack version is that the music is built out of modular segments that can be played in any order, and what plays is based on whatever is going on on screen
@@VainerCactus0 I mean it is but Mick makes the nerdy stuff sound like it's the most interesting thing ever Tested it on many people who aren't into music production, they liked *the hell* out of his talk
14:55 they've talked about how they got a whole chorus of metal vocalists for the soundtrack, so I really think that riser actually *is* a fry scream processed to work like a riser
There's a lot of dynamism to how they did the "adapt to the level" stuff. Each level has 2-3 different intensities (ambient, light, heavy) and the tracks are dynamically mixed by the game engine to be appropriate to what's happening in the level. An example of a benefit of this: the synth arpeggios were actually previously introduced to the listener before the heavy bit starts playing, so they're also a callback/"return to the familiar" sort of a break too. If I remember correctly, there were also hints of certain note progressions in the ambient, but it's been a while since I've played.
1:34 What he did at the end of that compoundation of those 2 songs I really like that. He got a good scream and just saying Metal is the best genre of music.
Love seeing the Blind Guardian love. I'm such a sucker for Power and Symphonic metal. So glad you enjoyed this! Mick used stuff like Power tools and even a Lawnmower in his Tracks for Doom. We were so lucky to have a game with our $60 Soundtrack.
I can't believe it took me so long to find you- this is one of the BEST breakdowns of music I have ever seen on RUclips! I especially loved how you would play and transform the different pieces, and then your explanations so that normal people could understand. Excuse me while I go binge your channel--!!
Gotta say I love how you not only talk about what this music does as it is happening (or just happened), but also illustrate it with e.g. orchestral examples! Sure, it's one thing to say how it would sound like played by an orchestra, but to actually make it and show us is dedication and watcher friendly on another level! I'm not usually the type to go on "you've just earned a sub" rants, but this was exceptional! great video, great analysis!! :D
One thing that you can't really appreciate in this format is the incredible dynamic nature of the music in game. So many criteria such as your health, enemy types, amount of enemies and what you are doing can effect the music. It's extremely fluid and I watched a live stream of Mick and it's insane how much thought he put into how the music transitions in intensity to match the vibe of what's happening on screen.
Really like that callout to Animals as Leaders, the way the band operates is insane. Matt Garstka being able to finesse and show off his chops is one of the highlights of my listening experience, and hearing Tosin and Javier complement each other and leave space for super intricate playing. Everyone can handle the rhythm, but everyone can also bring out really good sound for the music they play!
That orchestral version legit gave me chills. It just highlights even more that a good composition is still great when put in different context. Also, I love it that you give proper input and context in your reactions. Most content like this just capitalizes off of other people's stuff, you actually have something to add to the conversation and I love it.
Okay, we need a full conversion of this song to the 19th Century Villain style, it was friggin' divine. Can we also get a full conversion of the Cyberpunk version of this song? That slapped so good.
I cant remember where did i see it before, but Mick Gordon did a panel interview explaining the music production process he came up with when doing the Doom 2016 soundtrack. I would recommend that interview to have an insight to his design process and how he came up with the aggressive electronic sounds in the music.
Someone else's comment, not mine, but gonna use as a bookmark for me 5:03 Haunted House 6:05 19th Century Villain 9:47 Hallway in Hell 11:40 Doombourne 14:37 Cyberdoom 17:20 Doomfunk
9:20 His stuff with Killer Instinct Season 1 was the reason why I was so hyped when he was announced to be working on DOOM 2016. My personal favourites were Polemos (Aganos' theme) and Inferno (Cinder's theme)
‘Maybe it symbolizes that the DOOMGUY is being haunted by his own internal ghosts, and that’s the source of his unrelenting rage against the demons. Idk I never played DOOM’ This is a surprisingly accurate read. The original plot of the first DOOM is that the demons killed his pet bunny Daisy, and he went totally off the reservation and killed every demon on Mars. In fact, if you scrutinize the cover art for the DOOM games, you can see Daisy hidden in the background. The modern games added more lore, where he was championed as the greatest warrior of a race of alien gods, even though he was human, who gave him his technology (kind of like Samus Aran from Metroid) and unleashed him against the legions, allowing him to direct his rage against all demonkind in their own hellish realms using the strongest weapons in the universe. But really, the underlying driving force for his bloodlust and quest for vengeance is still the same. RIP Daisy 🐰 The more you know 💫
i mean daisy was his innocent pet, man deserves to be angry i feel like john wick and doom guy would make the most dangerous duo both lost a precious pet
just slight (not that important) correction: the doom guy doesn't find that daisy has been slaughtered until the end of the first doom game, as it was the stinger for "doom 2: hell on earth". the plot of the original doom is simply that demons have overrun the military compound and possessed all your buddies, so you're the only living survivor and you're fighting for your life.
he didnt lose his shit until episode 4 of doom 1 which was added in the ultimate doom, thy flesh consumed, he only found that daisy died after hell on earth with thy flesh consumed being set after it in which he does simply walk into hell to massacre those boys, after he came back he was so fucked up that by the time doom 64 happened he was just ptsd and hate and decided to stay behind in hell to make sure they dont try any shit again
Fantastic video, I love the way you explain the intricate details of this soundtrack! The last thing that you touched on, how there are "breaks" in the song is great. If you're someone that heard the soundtrack when playing the game itself, its like being a person who has listened to a great band live. The way the song changes as you are fighting is unreal and you feel every emotion you mentioned twice as much. I would highly recommend playing the game, even if its on an easy difficulty just to fully appreciate how incredible it is.
I loved how you played it as a classical piece. It really shows how Metal is the modern successor to classical music and can be inspired by those great composers and their piano work.
I love seeing people getting introduced to stuff I love. You take it to a whole another level however. You put so much effort into your analysis and it shows. Usually react content is "easy content". 2-3 videos being pumped a day. You're different and that's why I love watching your breakdowns. You actually "break-it-down" and explain every little detail that people who haven't studied music might have never gotten otherwise. The best part is when you take a piece and interpret those same melodies and chords into different genres to help better understand how a strong fundamental arrangement will work (almost) all the time, like the 18th century version presented here. Helps separate the wheat from the chaff. Keep it up Alex, you make the best musical analyses on the platform and I hope to see more.
Caught this thanks to the algorithm, but damn, this is way more in depth than any "reaction" channels I've seen. In depth analysis with so many connections. Subscribed.

I hear he's working on the soundtrack for Atomic Heart. You can even hear some of the work for the soundtrack in the latest trailer for the game.
Just a shame he cant fulfil his end of contracts without blaming his failures on the studio and making out he wasnt the problem.
@@the_furry_inside_your_walls639 he also composed the OST for Prey
@@samm4687 Which he was absolutely correct in doing, so...
@@KainYusanagi what failing to meet a project after multiple extensions to the time and missing them all. Then having someone else do his job and then slandering that person and the company. Yeh he was in the right.
I loved this song so much I forgot it came with a free game.
Yo you are literally the only reaction channel that put this amount of work in his/her videos.
Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal soundtracks brought the pure hellish heaviness that the games needed.
Someone hire Alex for vocals on the next Doom game! 😱
bro your vocals are actually so good like that scream was impeccable
This is by far the best breakdown I’ve seen of this track. Bravo brother!
He is a metaphor of what God will do with the wicked in the day of judgement.
@@JesusProtects hahahaha
Dude Mick Gordon also did the Prey 2017 soundtrack and it makes similar use of sounds and electronic textures it’s so sick. Especially “The Phantoms”.
he also did beautiful desolation is good
I only knew you as "the groovy cover guy with cool shirts" until now, man this is probably the best reaction-type video I watched. The way you explain and mix it up with snippets of covers is really great!
4:18 I don't think that was a synth, i think Mick just straight up used a chainsaw. He's done that for several tracks in the games
I'm sorry WHAT
@@theguywhoseinsideyourwalls9153 lmfao yeah Mick used Chainsaws to do some sounds
@@theguywhoseinsideyourwalls9153 yeah he puts a chainsaw or lawnmower through a midi keyboard fairly often lol
Sounds like an overdrive hurdy-gurdy to me..
nah, that's a synth. the chainsaw was used for those droning sounds like at 9:27 in the background. you can't really control the pitch of a chainsaw unless you spend a stupid amount of time sampling it.
Literally the best reaction/evaluation I've seen of this song. I've learned soo much from this video.
I love how much love you show to video game music. Such an underappreciated form of music and its so easy to overlook while playing a game
That talk is quite nerdy :)
@@VainerCactus0 I mean it is but Mick makes the nerdy stuff sound like it's the most interesting thing ever
Tested it on many people who aren't into music production, they liked *the hell* out of his talk
@@kurokamikage_official I am one of those people, I know nothing about making music.
@Top Lobster Possibly.
14:55 they've talked about how they got a whole chorus of metal vocalists for the soundtrack, so I really think that riser actually *is* a fry scream processed to work like a riser
Just gonna say this, I really like your username lmao

@@JJStylies You're welcome :D
There's a lot of dynamism to how they did the "adapt to the level" stuff. Each level has 2-3 different intensities (ambient, light, heavy) and the tracks are dynamically mixed by the game engine to be appropriate to what's happening in the level. An example of a benefit of this: the synth arpeggios were actually previously introduced to the listener before the heavy bit starts playing, so they're also a callback/"return to the familiar" sort of a break too. If I remember correctly, there were also hints of certain note progressions in the ambient, but it's been a while since I've played.
You are entirely correct!
This is the only "Composer reacts" video I've found with some actual substance.
Thank you, very cool
I NEED that orchestral revision. You are a phenomenal analyzer/composer.
When he did the orchestral version I was like “this sounds like it would be in Hollow Knight”
Best explanation of what came to mind
You're so f'n cool, man. Thanks for going off on mashup tangents, you got a great scream
Dude I've never heard so many sick alternative versions of Doom music my hats off to you.
You singing over it with metal lyrics dressed up as a 1990's metalhead-emo.... that was just perfect.
If you are curious, the chorus at the end is "Rip and Tear"
okay but no one gonna talk about how this man just popped out the heavy metal vocals out of nowhere? Was not expecting that at all!
I can't believe it took me so long to find you- this is one of the BEST breakdowns of music I have ever seen on RUclips! I especially loved how you would play and transform the different pieces, and then your explanations so that normal people could understand. Excuse me while I go binge your channel--!!
We need the full vocal cover of this, please.
Also the orechstal conversion is insane, the effort that must have went into that.
6:05 i want the full version of that!!
10:56 - This! This emotion this literal energy right here is why i will always love metal! Excellent video, good sir!
The classical rendition you did sent chills throughout my entire body, holy shit dude. Instant subscribe. I cannot WAIT to see your channel grow!!
Same! Sign me up 😂
Gotta say I love how you not only talk about what this music does as it is happening (or just happened), but also illustrate it with e.g. orchestral examples! Sure, it's one thing to say how it would sound like played by an orchestra, but to actually make it and show us is dedication and watcher friendly on another level! I'm not usually the type to go on "you've just earned a sub" rants, but this was exceptional! great video, great analysis!! :D
6:05 that is beautiful man, what a great way to explain how awesome Mick Gordon is
Holy hell the orchestral version gave me GOOSEBUMPS!
They say music is a language, and you explain and translate it very well in a way people like me can actually understand it. Thanks man.
Damn dude I’m stunned at the level of work you put in on the DAW
Alex your reactions/breakdowns are the best. I love all the extras, genre shifts and education you throw into them.
You reactions and analysis is the best on RUclips, i learned so much from your videos!
I need a full version of that funky cover. PLEASE. "The Only Thing They Fear...Is Funk"
That orchestral version legit gave me chills. It just highlights even more that a good composition is still great when put in different context.
Also, I love it that you give proper input and context in your reactions. Most content like this just capitalizes off of other people's stuff, you actually have something to add to the conversation and I love it.
I love your explanations and dissection of these songs, man. Keep great, brother! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Okay, we need a full conversion of this song to the 19th Century Villain style, it was friggin' divine. Can we also get a full conversion of the Cyberpunk version of this song? That slapped so good.
It's been memed to death out there but: this isn't metal, this is the entire periodic table
I cant remember where did i see it before, but Mick Gordon did a panel interview explaining the music production process he came up with when doing the Doom 2016 soundtrack. I would recommend that interview to have an insight to his design process and how he came up with the aggressive electronic sounds in the music.
Gdc talk circa that time 2016 ~ onward

9:20 His stuff with Killer Instinct Season 1 was the reason why I was so hyped when he was announced to be working on DOOM 2016.
My personal favourites were Polemos (Aganos' theme) and Inferno (Cinder's theme)
Both of those are season 2, but I love those tracks too!
Also Village of Whispers
His TJ Combo piece was a great show of his talent with a more hip hop style as well, always part of the gym playlist
That "Villan" Track you laid out at 6:00 with the melody of TOTTFIY sounds soooo damn good, like a bloodborne track taken to 11.
Full song maybe?
Damn Alex! You have an awesome Metal voice! You are a goddamn Renaissance Man!
‘Maybe it symbolizes that the DOOMGUY is being haunted by his own internal ghosts, and that’s the source of his unrelenting rage against the demons. Idk I never played DOOM’
This is a surprisingly accurate read.
RIP Daisy 🐰
The more you know 💫
i mean daisy was his innocent pet, man deserves to be angry i feel like john wick and doom guy would make the most dangerous duo both lost a precious pet
just slight (not that important) correction: the doom guy doesn't find that daisy has been slaughtered until the end of the first doom game, as it was the stinger for "doom 2: hell on earth". the plot of the original doom is simply that demons have overrun the military compound and possessed all your buddies, so you're the only living survivor and you're fighting for your life.
Even though Daisy's in every level in Doom Eternal but I'm just gonna go ahead and sweep that under the rug
he didnt lose his shit until episode 4 of doom 1 which was added in the ultimate doom, thy flesh consumed, he only found that daisy died after hell on earth with thy flesh consumed being set after it in which he does simply walk into hell to massacre those boys, after he came back he was so fucked up that by the time doom 64 happened he was just ptsd and hate and decided to stay behind in hell to make sure they dont try any shit again
So doom guy was the OG John Wick? LOL I didn't know that :D
PLEASE release a full version of that classical version of the song. I'm BEGGING you, I need that in my life
Fantastic video, I love the way you explain the intricate details of this soundtrack!
Great commentary and all the edits were amazing, a lot of work was put into the video. It shows! Thank you man.
The sound of a nine string guitar immediately bursts the eardrums of any demon unlucky enough to hear it.
I love this guys energy
Caught this thanks to the algorithm, but damn, this is way more in depth than any "reaction" channels I've seen. In depth analysis with so many connections. Subscribed.
