Great video! I have a 2012 charger and have been searching out the leak on the bell housing but couldn't find it. I've gone through a couple bottles of tracer but can't see in there enough to find the leak however, my hand got dye on it right next to the hose. I bet that the oil cooler is the problem. I was worried it was a head gasket problem but it doesn't have the normal head gasket problems. I appreciate all the extra insights about the fuel line disconnect. I probably would break that off too. Thanks for going over this procedure, you are saving my butt.

Symptoms of this somewhat common failure of the oil cooler include overheating, large coolant leak from behind the block that seems to go between the transmission and engine mating surfaces, and white smoke seeming to originate from underneath the intake manifold. Both instances ive replaced oil coolers on 3.6 pentastar, customer stated they were on highway/interstate passing another vehicle when the issue occurred.

I found that the people who change oil, over-tighten the oil filter cover. The shop I use allows me to remove the filter cap on my own and I GENTLY put it back on. I haven't had a leak from the unit since 2013.

I took my car in for an oil change and the dealership said I had a leak for my coolant and oil but there was nothing on the ground or that I could see on the engine. My car was close to overheating yesterday and I am out of coolant... I am thinking this is the culprit. Dealership wants to charge $2200 to fix but I have an extended warranty so will try to get it covered under that! This was so helpful and will help me when speaking to the dealership. Also am due for a tune-up too so that was a great tid-bit!

I also noticed coolant puddling and smoking on top of the oil filter cooling assembly!!! This has to be it. Thank you soo much!

Hey Ron, Great video by the way, I have a 2012 dodge journey SXT and Im trying to get a handle on where the antifreeze keeps going and where its coming from. Im in Ozark Alabama and I was quoted 1200 to 1500 from a mechanic shop to fix it, he quotes me something like12 to 16 hours of labor. My question is, what book did you mentioned the pricing guide was from, and where can I find one of your videos with step by step instruction. If there is any.

So we were trying to figure out where the leak was and I was right it was coming from the middle of that engine. But I think it was coming from the hose attached to that piece. Could it of been possible that white clamp that hold the hose in had been deteriorated and pressure was pushing the liquid through because it really was coming from that area and not around the side. Or could this have been tampered with some how “it is not” coming off the sides of the piece your replacing. Also could the leak have caused liquid to go everywhere to the point it’s caused electrical issues somehow for the battery to keep dying.2012 dodge grand caravan r/t…

Ron, was the oil cooler assembly the problem and where specifically was the leak. I had the same signs and symptoms on my engine - coolant pouring out the back of the engine. this video convinced me not to tear it down to the heads. I am not confident enough to do that. Now if it turns out after i put it all back together....well....it looks like i WILL be doing the tear down again.

Is this breakdown for the 3.6 the same for the 5.7? Cause I noticed in a lot of Durango videos nobody works on a 5.7 everything is a 3.6. But if you can help me or someone else that knows about the 5.7 engine please help me answer this question.

So it is normal for an oil filter adaptor to leak coolant? I have heard lots of people having oil leak issues with it. I am having a coolant leak in the "valley" where the oil filter adaptor is right now, no oil leak just water coolant. I have replaced the seals on it with new Mahlel seals on it and still water leaks in that area. Took it off and put it back on 4 times and it keeps leaking even more. I did a 108 in lb torque on it and still no dice, the book said 106 in lb I did 108 in lb just to make sure I did get it tighter. So I guess it is a $200 full oil adaptor replacement to get it fixed now? I have taken it off and did an inspection and saw no cracks or anything under the oil filter adaptor at all, just nothing, looks fine but leaks from below. I know it is not leaking from the sides because I saw it leaked into the valley without the plenum installed on it near bolts 3 and 4 on the oil adaptor.
