    Great video!! I just replaced the AC condenser following this video. Very detailed and easy to follow. Prior to install, I had Brakes Plus purge the AC system. After install, I topped off the 8 speed transmission with engine on and transmission temperature around 90 to 100F. There's a transmission temperature gage on the instrument cluster on my 2014 DD which is handy. I then drove my DD until the transmission temperature exceeded 194F to make sure the trans cooler portion of condenser filled with transmission fluid. I let it cool overnight and repeated fill procedure. Since my DD has 116K, I will have the transmission fluid and filter replaced since the fluid the leaked out was very dark, almost black.

      +MotorCity Mechanic But this one is clearly leaking from the A/C condenser portion right? Our Durango is leaking from the same area as on this video and leaving stains on the ground wherever we park it. I cleaned off the oily area with brake cleaner and clearly see oil leaking from condenser portion right at the welds where thin tubes attach to the sides.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  8 лет назад +1

      The leak is at the a/c condenser assembly. The assembly contains both the trans cooler and a/c condenser. That would explain the leak you have and where the leak is located. Thats the common location that I have seen. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe!

    Awesome video and instructions! Thank you very much! The condenser on my '12 R/T is leaking trans fluid on the bottom run as well. You made the statement to another user about sticking with the Mopar branded replacement. However, the trans leak in the condenser is a very common issue with the 3rd Gen Durangos. That said and being that it's only the trans cooling area of the condenser with the issue, I was thinking of simply adding a dedicate trans cooler rather than replacing the A/C condenser/cooler combo and experiencing the same issue again in roughly 3-5 years (which would save having to break the A/C system apart). Would you mind giving your thoughts on my idea? Thanks again for the video... it'll be a big help for my repair!

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 лет назад

      Michael Cambra I haven't seen the same replaced twice. One thing about Mopar is that when there are issues....they revise and update the parts. The factory cooler is larger when compared to other aftermarket universal coolers. Aftermarket replacements are mixed quality not as well designed in my opinion. In the end it's up to you. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe

    100% identical to the WK2 jeep Grand Cherokee. Same part i beleive, fails in the same place. I also notice that the bumper is attached the same way, with the same bolts and rivets. The horn, radiator support, hood latch, P/S cooler and transmission cooler lines look identical too. It's like this car and the Grand Cherokee come off the same production line... The chassis and engine look like a carbon copy of my 2014 Grand Cherokee!

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 лет назад

      Very true....they are of cousins and share alot. I just didnt want to confuse anyone with the image of the Durango the entire time. But none the less the steps are for the most part....identical. Only real difference is interior space....with the Durango you get the option of 3 rows of seats. Thats the reason we got rid of our Grand Cherokee and went with the Durango. Thanks for the comment and for watching Luke. Make sure to subscribe.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  8 лет назад

      I havent seen any issues where I have had multiple failures on the same vehicle. I still prefer the OEM Mopar replacements because I believe in the quality versus other companies where you dont ever know where the part is made. If I was going back with another....I personally would go with the Mopar if I had the choice. Otherwise make sure you get one with a good warranty just in case. Thank you for replying. I did replace it and no shifting issues. I do have a question. Is it necessary to go to the dealer to top off the trans fluid? Or is there an easier way to check the level and fill appropriately? There is no dipstick to check.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 лет назад

      @@paal8866 Depends on the year......up to 2013 it needs a special dipstick that they have to check the level that you wont have and on the 2014 and newer they check the fluid on the side of the trans.

    • @paal8866
      @paal8866 5 лет назад +1

    I gave you a thumbs up. Although my issue is a bit different than what you worked on, you did give me a good look at how to remove my front grill. I'll keep looking to see if you have any clips that will help me with my leak. Something translucent / green is coming off the driver side cooler assembly. One shop told me it was my Radiator, but the people I bought my Durango from said it was a Power Steering leak. But when I check my fluids, the power steering level is fine, but I am low on Brake Fluid. I'm not sure though how the Brake line would be tied into my cooling lines. Mystery?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      Quick question......what is the year and do you know what trans? Brake fluid will drop over time as the brake pads wear thinner and thinner and the pistons move further out the caliper which is normal. If you have a plastic trans pan....then you have the 8 speed trans and the fluid is a dark greenish color. That could explain the color and location....expecially if it looks to be in the same area as in the video. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe

    • @kurttherealtor6088
      @kurttherealtor6088 6 лет назад

      Hello Motor City, I had not expected a reply so late in the evening, but I do appreciate it. I am still up researching this problem. I need to get back on the road ASAP. My Durango is a 2011 Crew 3.6L AWD. I am not sure of the Trans-Speed, but the pan is Plastic because the Aamco guy did let me get under the car while he changed the Transmission Oil. He did note that my Trans-Oil had been running low, and refilled it for me a couple of times. He initially recommended I get a new Radiator, but I think he meant I needed a new AC Condenser/Transmission Cooler. I didn't believe his diagnoses because I was under the impression that Transmission fluid was always red in color. But if what you stated about the 8 speed being green, then that would explain a lot. I DO have a Transmission leak, but it is not the Radiator that is cracked, but the Transmission (fluid) cooler that is broken. Do I have it all correct now?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      Its not a problem......i keep crazy hours with my full time job and this youtube channel. I am feeling it for sure this morning however lol. I am attaching a like to a video on the 8 speed trans....I just want to be 100% sure yours looks like the one in the picture. So if you have this trans and its leaking a greenish fluid in the same area of the condensor as in the video you commented on then I fill good thats your trans leak and it needs to be replaced. The trans takes special fluid so I would want to make sure that they installed the correct fluid.....this one doesnt use the typical red fluid we were always used to. ruclips.net/video/Fm8L7C9uE5I/видео.html

      Hello Motorcity, The year of my Durango is 2011. I just sent you my VIN number for better details through email. I appreciate your help. I am amazed that I can't get simple details like this from my local Dealer. I have been waiting for a call back since 7 a.m. this morning. • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      Yours shows to have the NAG1 6 speed trans so the fluid should be the red ATF+4. It wont be green in colors so further checking will need to be done to see what that leak might be.

    I have a 2009 Dodge Journey and the A/C Condenser looks a lot like the one you are replacing with all the grease (Tranny fluid) in the upper right hand side. Is this why you are replacing the condenser? Can the grease be cleaned off instead of replacing the condenser? Does the condenser need to be replaced? My AC blows cool but I just bought the car and have not driven it in a Arizona summer yet. Thanks for the video.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 лет назад +2

      I typically replace them for one of two reasons.....either I replaced or rebuilt the transmission and now I am replacing the trans cooler which is part of the condenser. The other reason is for leaking trans fluid. If its leaking then cleaning will not do anything, it will need to be replaced. Thanks for asking and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.

    Hey man, awesome video! Question for you.... I have a 2014 Durango. I have been experiencing a hissing sound when the AC is on and inconsistent cooling. In the MS heat, it doesn't cool well in the daytime but at night, its back fine. I have had Freon added twice which lets me know there is a leak. There are no holes in the lines. I got an opinion from a Mopar technician that it is the condenser. I am not paying Mopar $1200 to replace this. From your experience, can you tell me if a condenser is all I need to have replaced? Any other parts? Any help helps!

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 лет назад

      If its the condenser then there will be a wet spot in one of the corners....typically the bottom drivers side. If there is then the condenser is recommended. I would only replace that one item and nothing else. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe

      @@MotorCityMechanic I think my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a transcooler leak, pink fluid that's kinda oily. Wouldn't it make since to change the radiator out as well being you have the entire front end all ready completely disassembled? 130k mileage.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 лет назад

      @@Maverick4841 Most likely that condensor/trans cooler is the source of that leak. As far as the radiator thats up to you. I see no harm in replacing it and the radiator hoses at that interval. Its a part that might never fail or it might shortly after replacing the condensor. Personally I would go with a mopar replacement if you do so that you dont install a cheap aftermarket replacement that might actually end up leaking eventually due to being cheaper quality

      @@MotorCityMechanic I hear ya on the Mopar OEM parts but I feel there lies the problem, Mopar. This is a chronic problem with the vehicles with this cooler installed and most notably in Jeep GC and Durango forums all over the web. Chrysler should have done the right thing a recalled these vehicles, but it would have killed them with labor cost. My last Chrysler product, thanks for all you do for us.

      I havent had any issues personally. You may need to loosen up on the bolts on the other end of the braces and then install the other bolts. Otherwise they should line up if nothing else has been moved.

    My wife has a 2015 R/T Durango. The dealer told her that the repair would cost $1,500. I’m a heavy duty Mech and my buddy has an A/C machine. So I will be doing the repair, my question for you buddy is, what freon does it take? Is it R134a? Thanks for any input! Great video! I will definitely be referring to it!

    I haven’t went to my diagnosis appointment at dodge yet. But my AC is blowing cool not cold. But when I get on the highway around 65 MPH it gets cold. Everything I’m searching comes back at condenser fan. Is that what this is your fixing? I’m clueless lol And could the fan be my issue based on your experience? My AC coolant is charged. Thanks

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад +1

      There is no separate fan for this vehicle. I would be concerned that if a fan issue then it wouldnt just have an HVAC issue....it would be overheating as well. I would want to verify the pressures and if needed....the amount of freon in the system. Right now it would be a guess Misty without checking those items first. Thanks for the question!

      It can cause the fluid to get low and then cause trans issues for sure. I recommend having it replaced and then the fluid level corrected. Then see if any other issues. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe

    Are there not seals (o-rings) on the A/C lines that need to be replaced during this install? Thanks,

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      There may be o-rings and or/gaskets, In a perfect world I would say to always replace them both but I have learned that its not needed most times. In the end its best to error on the side of caution so if you can....replace them. Personally I never do and never have an issue.

    • @mikebangs4015

      There are two A/C line seals that should be replaced. I had hoped they would come with the condensor, but they do not. I learned a long time ago that cutting corners often leads to an annoying re-do. Mine may have re-sealed, but they were quite compressed and it only felt right to change them. For anyone doing this, you will need 1x 68086125AA and 1x 68086126AA. They are insane at almost $40 for a pair of seals that likely cost less than 4 cents to make. Thanks Dodge! But still better than risking a leak and having take it all apart again.

    Did you loose trans fluid when you took off transmission lines? And does it work on a 2014 Durango?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  4 года назад

      Anonymous The unknown the reason for replacing this one was due to a trans leak so it was low to begin with. You will lose some but not too much during replacement. Still best to check the trans level afterwards to be sure. The 2014 is a bit different to get to due to the difference in the front bumper design. Otherwise after that it’s the same. I just had the AC system completely replaced on a 2011 V6. With rear air. Compressor, condenser, both expansion valves, and probably forgetting a couple other things. $1200. They give me the car back and it will not cool at idle. They say it's missing some seals. Part number, 52014536AA, 68100240AA, and 68100242AA. They want another $200+ to do these. Is this something that can be done without removing a bunch of parts? I still need to make sure this is in fact the problem and they're not just throwing more parts at it.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      I feel thats a bunch of cra....those seals wont have any affect at idle and really no major difference while driving. I have seen them missing and it didnt affect the a/c. Sounds like they thru a bunch of parts at it and guessed wrong and now they are blaming something else. The front bumper cover would have to be taken of to access it.....basically what they did when they replaced the condenser.

    • @watchandjewelryloft4713
      @watchandjewelryloft4713 6 лет назад +1

      MotorCity Mechanic Hmm very interesting. So, what do you suspect is my problem. With all these new parts in, I dunno what to check now. And only at idle does the problem show itself.

    • @watchandjewelryloft4713
      @watchandjewelryloft4713 6 лет назад +1

      Also wondering how I can get them to fix it and figure it out. They merely quoted me the extra money for the parts and didn't even offer to eat the labor or anything. They're the ones that didn't check the parts diagram to make sure everything was there. So, even if this is the legit problem, why should I have to pay to have them remove the front again.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      The radiator fan operation needs to be checked being that its operation at idle when there is no airflow from not driving down the road. Thats just one thing to check but an important item for sure.

      I would be more like.....you had it apart to replace the condensor....why didnt you say it needed it then. Now that everything is back together you want me to take it all apart again for something you didnt catch the first time. I would want them to work with you but we all know how that goes....they do what they want to do. I am with you on this.....now for them to get on board....that will be the challenge
