Hi Eric...just a tip from an AC guy: Try a drop of NyLog on the O-ring, ferrule, and line (and sometimes the threads). NyLog is a sealant they've been using in the HVAC trade for years. It works, and if used correctly (meaning sparely), it will not gum up orifices or TXVs. I've had mixed results using NAPA repair fittings (never noticed if they were Dorman or SUR&R). Most of the time I can get them tight without sealants, but there is always that 10% that can never please the sniffer. Since I started using a couple drops of NyLog, I think I have that failure rate down to about 1%. Make sure you get the NyLog Blue...it's for refrigerant systems using PAG oil (NyLog Red is for CFC and HCFC refrigerants using mineral oil lubricants). The stuff sells for about $10 from my local HVAC supplier but, it's available on line at places like TruTech Tools for about $13. The last NAPA repair fitting I bought (like the 3/8 line-splice fitting you used in the video) was $48 my price (a rip-off, I know... the same fitting is $34 on Amazon). I haven't been able to find any reasonably priced kits like the one you have. So, mostly I buy OE lines and fittings. I've found they are usually about the same (and sometimes less) money. But, when a repair fitting is the answer (like Chrysler rear AC systems)... at the price for these non-reusable "You-have-one-shot-to-get-it-right" repair fittings, a drop of good sealant is cheap insurance.

They appear to be the way go when your working in a area with very little to no room.

Sometimes when we are tubing instrumentation runs with multiple compression fittings we will mark the tubing on the dry fit behind the nut with a sharpie. Then we can quickly visually check everything has stayed together before tightening. Very enjoyable video, keep up the good work!

My first job was working with Reynolds Aluminum Solar back in the early 80's and they had aluminum compression fitting for connecting their aluminum solar panels and they were also a one shot deal and if it leaked the glycol then you got out the hack saw and tried again. No loosening or tightening on those God awful fittings and fine thread just to make it more difficult.
Great video as usual, you truly are a joy to watch for those of us in the maintenance trenches.

When I'm working on AC systems on airplane I use SUR&R. I have to agree they make top notch stuff!!
I never had luck or patience with those leak detectors. Last truck shop I worked at we had a nitrogen bottle with a gauge and low side ac fitting. That worked slick for finding leaks. Eric, you`re gonna start losing your hair if you keep worrying what some scumbags say behind your back. You`re the best out there thusly being a target to the low lifes. Keep up the good work buddy.

Just aluminum welded a rub through on an a/c line yesterday... couldn’t get a new one, aftermarket rear ac in a e250 van... it worked fine!!!!!
At 6:40 my Alexa said sorry I can’t help you with that. With over 100,000 viewers I’ll bet that’ll get em chuckling. You tackled a job not many would wanna try. Don’t forget you left the end on that hose when ya put it back away. Nice job kudos Eric on that fix.

There are a number of outer shaft deburring tools that work very well for such applications and reasonably cheap too (under $20). They are quick, and since they pull the shavings away, much less likely to leave anyvin the tubing. Nice job, Eric! 👍

Great to see an AC repair. People wonder why AC is so expensive, but when you factor in all the specialty tools and training, its easy to see why. For an isolated rear AC problem I might have been inclined to block that part off, recognizing that the front AC was fine. Next one that comes in to be blocked off, please keep the camera rolling.

Ye that was a good kit, only one thing i thought they might have made was pipe inserts to help maintane the pipe structure cose they are really thin pipes, but you nailed again save a lot money there, now dont forget to order some new one's. cheers

A rubber lined “p” clamps would have been perfect for securing lines together also I remember years ago refrigeration technicians would have used compatible refrigeration oil to aid in joining threaded compression fittings- great work & enjoy videos:)

Since I was a guy who did this work, and moved on to doing commercial HVAC work, let me recommend not only the Nylog mentioned below, but also to pressure test the system with dry nitrogen up to the working pressure with a little 134a in the system, and then go over everything for a final leak check. As you no doubt know, Chrysler had a big problem with evaps leaking, and my detection method was to hold my sniffer at the evap case drain, since the refrigerant was heavier than air, and when I had silence (from the detector) it was golden.
Nice video got to stay cool when things get hot even at 30 degrees.
Those lines are a problem waiting to happen wow!!!! Who was the engineer that thought this was a great idea?? It should be mandatory that these engineers have to change the parts they design…..maybe then things would be a little easier to work on!!!! I've never seen those anywhere before, great idea! I usually TIG Weld holes or damage from accidents in A/C lines. You said 'cough Dorman' 1 more time than SUR & R so 'cough Dorman' will be thrilled! Haha
Another alternative(though not my first choice) to the zip tie could be a rubber insulated saddle/cable clamp etc but that would entail drilling holes to fix to the vehicle.

These are such a pain in the a** to work on Eric. Your experience and skill helps you make your own luck in these cases. That said, fixing the high pressure side always makes me cross my fingers, toes and eyes just hoping it doesn’t leak. Nicely done!
I know the wire ties were not your first choice but as you mentioned, they are the only choice for this job. No one's going to see it in normal operation anyway. Well done.

Also there J 2534 pass thru reprogramer. I like the data stream menu. They red flag sensor values that are Wonky for the beginner. Videos keep getting better and better. Later Bra

Did something very similar today to my 2011 Durango using *GASP* Dorman line terminator block off kits, one 3/8" and one 5/8" (for the guy below asking). Got the Dorman parts on Amazon for about $32, plus a can of AC Pro. I cut the lines about 10" farther forward than where you did, right near the very front of the rear driveshaft because I think my leak was between there and the spot where your repair was. The terminations were good quality and appeared to seal well, no leaks noted after the first hour...we will see how it holds up. My third row passengers won't be happy this summer but this is a brilliant repair.

great repair and at great price
I used a brass ferrule compression fitting on the plastic clutch line on that '94 S10 plow truck I've got. Works mint! 😁 Saved me from having to do the job twice after my zip ties melted, and then let the plastic line lay right on the exhaust, as I held it to the boards until the valves floated while stuck in the snow. I underestimated the heat of a 5,500 RPM run at ZERO MPH. 😂
Just came in to eat lunch & clear my head. Battling a '08 Impala with a P0411. Had a plugged up solenoid valve / pressure sensor, and a bad solenoid valve relay. Well, I don't know if it's my Autel, or GM just being GM, but I was so mad this morning that I'm ready to take a nap here at 1pm! Trying to run the AIR test. First, while troubleshooting, it said, "Engine temp. too low" ... so ran it around the block ... then it says, "Engine temp too high". SERIOUSLY?? Wasted a ton of time waiting for it to cool enough to run, then the stupid thing times out, so key off / back on to try again - did that a bunch of times to confirm the new relay and valve worked. Now it's back together, so I figured I'd run the AIR test and set the monitor. Tried, and it won't let me in anymore! GRRR! Keeps saying, "Wait 60 seconds - limit exceeded". Key off / key back on, same deal! Now I can't confirm the fix unless I let it go and let the lady drive it for 2 months, since she doesn't leave town. I friggin HATE modern cars man!! I just can't deal with this stupid crap!! 🤬Letting me, and the car cool down, and I'll try one more time. This is friggin RIDICULOUS!!! Might have to just let the lady take it and walk away. 😤
HAHA (sorry to laugh at you) Good ol GM AIR System. Did that one take that million dollar "diverter valve pressure sensor" combo? Expensive little guys and they corrode on this inside and set up all the time. Even when I use the tech II it has a 30sec max on timer then it is key off and wait. That gets frustrating on GM because they do that on the cam actuators and other tests too...
Ahh, great! I get to look forward to that too.😔 I know you know the struggle! I swear GM is trying to make techs quit. The way they engineer stuff makes my blood boil! Defies all logic!
Yeah, I replaced that valve/sensor combo unit. That was fun. Stupid plastic retainers on the hoses. Fantastic location for that blower motor too - right in the line of fire for salt, water, and road sand. None of the o-rings I had were the same thickness as what GM used - I figured as much! They were still relatively pliable, so I douched them with silicon grease and reinstalled. After I relaxed and watched your video here, I went back out there, and I was able to run the AIR monitor - was strange, because the Autel said the test failed ( think it was spelled "test fuaild", or something lost in translation, LOL! 😂). Monitor read OK, and no codes - I WON! 😁Anyway, I shipped it, so the lady can run it and get the rest of the monitors to complete (I couldn't get the EVAP monitor to run with the Autel - kept kicking me out because some unknown condition wasn't met - said to rev to 1,800-2,200 ... but the second I touched the pedal, it aborted). We'll see if it ends up back here for something else. What a TOILET that vehicle is!! 10 years old and it's complete JUNK! SMH ...

They call them cinch clamps. I get the PNs from SUR&R website & order from eBay. Less than Adv Auto free shipping & no tax. The 5/16 comp fitting PN AC516 at Advance $28.99 +Tax and eBay $24.29 5/16" doesn't come in kit (don't know why) but can be ordered separately along with a bunch of mm fittings. AGS does same crap and you have to buy at auto parts or hardware stores. Auto Cooling Solutions has some nice splies good to 2600 psi I may try in the future. I'm going to say it but Dorman does have certain products that are pretty good like the splice fittings and their nylon fuel line repair kit but I'm under duress writing this b/c most everything else is junk and will comeback broken if it makes it out the door. Nice job & enjoyed the video as usual!
