      The problem with my local FLGS is they charge full GW price for their stuff. Not % off at all. I want to support them, don't get me wrong, but when they charge 210 for a box of Kill Team and I can get it online for 170 shipped, well, 40 bucks isn't exactly chump change.

  • @leeboy007b
    @leeboy007b Год назад +9

    I find the problem with buying second hand is some of the poses people have glued them in and the biggest problem when you remove the paint to find that whoever originally built the mini put way too much plastic glue on the joints/neck/ weapon area and it’s fused together or completely covered up the details on the mini. Just a couple things to look out for! Other than that, it’s the way forwards

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues

      The glue can be an issue for sure. Personally I'm on the lookout for those so I can use them for the channel lol, but if it's noticeable in the pictures and I want to get to work rather quickly, I would definitely avoid bad glue jobs.

    @BaWitda 10 месяцев назад

    One thing to keep in mind is that most tournaments not run by GW itself have a distinction between proxies and counts-as. If you're playing at NOVA or most ITC events, you can use a counts-as model. A counts-as model is a clear-stand in, where a proxy can be anything. That is, if you're playing an ork warboss with a power klaw, you can use one that's from Kromlech or Artel W so long as it's roughly the same size, clearly an ork, and has the right loadout. A proxy would be using a space marine captain with a power sword, or a bottlecap. It's always important to get clarification from the judges first (and many of them ask that you run any conversions or counts-as models by them first), but unless you're playing in an event that's actually run by GW, you can probably use reasonable third party minis, and they wouldn't be considered proxies.

      The saved searches have custom names so I remember the parameters, those aren't actually the searches themselves. Most of the searches are for specific types of minis, like one is metal minis within $5-$35 range that have been assembled, some paint, sorted by buy it now within North America, and I have notifications on like email. The title is weird, like Age of Sigmar 5/35 so I know what that search is. That's probably the weirdest looking one on my list. Most of the rest have relatively normal names lol.

      As far as I know there's nothing hazardous about the degreaser, it's mostly water, and made to be used in normal house cleaning. The acrylic paint, while it might not be great to poor down the sink certainly is way less than someone cleaning out a paint brush after painting a wall in their house. In reality, the waste we create in the hobby is nothing compared to even 1 day of what gets thrown out or put in the sewer from any business or restaurant in your local area.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  Год назад +1

      It's a little hard to recommend a specific model because they change out on Amazon all the time, but a smaller one around $30/$40 is what I was using for a long time. No matter what, try and get one from Amazon so you can return it if it doesn't work. I've only had 1 that was no good when I got it, but that return policy saved me big time!
      A quick look and here's one that is similar to the small one I had for quite a long time.
      All sonic cleaners will work with LA's Totally Awesome, the real difference is how big/industrial they are. Most of the smaller ones are meant for jewelry, who'd of thought, so you can only fit so many minis in there, but the big ones have things like drain pipes and extra heating. Not all that useful if I'm being honest. For the money it's pretty much about size and durability, but the smaller ones still work great.

    Visual aesthetic is a must, for sure. I agree, if you don't like painting the models, then what's the point? Unless you're a commission painter, which is a totally different mindset. Unfortunately, one of the reasons I don't do Warhammer is that no matter what the outlet online or what have you, those models still cost a bunch of money. GW is overpriced and they gleefully keep raising prices every year, no matter what--it's almost part of the fandom, it would appear, to anticipate the annual raising of the prices. Me, I got bills to pay and they wait for no one.

      I feel you on that, it's still very expensive to get into Warhammer specific games no matter where you get it. I really do appreciate 3D printing as a great alternative, it's initial cost can be high, but the great looking minis you can get are just as fun to paint as any GW mini out there, and most of them have their own game system, or something that can easily proxy into most other games. At least, to say the least, there are other really good options other than GW minis.

    Everyone always talks about painting models you like the look of which is fine. But then they go a step further and specifically disregard how they play. If you hate the playstyle of an army, why would you ever want to paint it?! Playstyle is important too

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  Год назад +1

      That's definitely fair. Armies all play differently and that is important to take into account. I like to watch batreps to see how different armies play and that informs my future buying decisions. But, I am also the kind of person who doesn't play an army until I paint it, so I wouldn't actually know if I didn't like it until it was way too late, maybe not the best way to go about it, but I like to paint more than play, so it's always a win for me. If you're more 50/50 or leaning towards gameplay, then definitely, pick the army that will be fun to play and paint!

    If you use eBay, NEVER forget that there may be a cost for shipping. Take that into account before you bid or purchase. AU is typically 50$, UK is usually 26$.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  Год назад +1

      Shipping is a nightmare, I rarely buy outside of North America because of it. UK prices have spiked so much recently that I almost never look. That being said, I do try and save sellers that take advantage of the ebay international shipping program, which really helps the price out. You can also create saved searches that take those things into account so when you browse listings you don't have to think about it. That really helps me out and I see every listing available within my price range, including shipping.

    That box of sand, your basing with, is that from Pyramid? Lol

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  Год назад +1

      Hah! that would be great, but no, it's actually from a small coastal town called Bandon up on the Oregon coast. I go there all the time and have painted many minis there. The beach sand has a great variety of rocks and small shell particles, really good for basing. Pyramid sand would be a nice touch, though I may need to sift it first...I've stepped more than a few sharp objects in my day.

      @eBay Miniature Rescues in glad I eyed it, and am grateful for the response. I get too complicated, sometimes, in doing my minis. I know a few great places in my neck of the woods that would garner great basing materials. You made me think of that. Got to love the West.

    That's my issue with miniatures. I have no creativity. I love following instructions rather than painting. I'd do Lego instead but it's more expensive lmao.

      Lego is off the rails these days, I remember getting huge sets for not a lot back in the day...that's why I paint minis now lol. But really, it can be expensive, that's why I'm always on the lookout for the deals, sometimes you can get really lucky!

    The guy running the gw store also has to justify his existence. You might think they're evil extortionists but the guy running it probably isn't. The guy at my local gw is a good guy so even though it's cheaper literally anywhere else I still buy from him because I look at this as a luxury anyway and im not totally addicted to plastic crack.

      100%, and if you can buy directly then great! I love going to my local GW, the manager is awesome and always greets me by name when I come in. The vibe there is really great too, really nice to play games and hangout.

    Are you interested in taking donations to the channel? I'm going back to school with a little one on the way and have come to the conclusion that there is no chance I'm ever going to get to my pile of shame - there's a couple hundred AOS and 40K models/box sets from various factions. I can send you a complete list if you'd like.

      Hey Dale, I am always happy to take donations! Donations have become a big part of this channel and make up for quite a large number of rescue videos. I really appreciate that you would like to donate to the cause and thank you very much for considering it. If you could email me at ebayminirescues@gmail.com we can talk more, thanks again man!!

      Hey man, I know the feeling well. That being said, you just need to get out there and ask. Local clubs are a great place to meet up with people, Facebook groups, local discord groups all have people looking for the same thing. There's a great app called GameFor that is designed specifically with tabletop gamers in mind to talk and setup games based on your location. People want to play and if you do to then I'm sure you would be able to find it if you looked, you just need to take the leap.

    Id just always start with 1 introduction box, They used to be cheap *Cries*, or if you already sort of have your list built, but 1 box at a time, paint them, finish them, and then go in for more, Id never advice anyone to dump 1 grand or whatever to buying an army in its entirety.
    Also ALWAYS, ALWAYS BUY Models you like, never buy models that are "Good" in the Meta, GW is the worst company I know of for having a stable "meta",
    Books made by GW are also worthless, unless you enjoy the lore. Books pretty much become toilet paper after 1 year, because the rules will have changed. heck I have had examples of books having rules altered 1 month after they where published.
