My life growing up was much the same as yours. My family was farmers. We mostly grew cotton as a cash crop. Also, we grew all our food, and raised beef, pork and chickens. I remember working in the fields as early as 7 years old. It was a hard life and fun at the same time. I learned to plow with a mule at the age of 8 years. No, I don't miss it at all. But, watching you brings back fond memories. I went to College and became an Engineer and worked for a international Company for 30 years. Retired at a somewhat early age in 2004. My hobby is woodworking. I am in the shop at least five days a week. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me/us. I look forward to your videos each week. Lovely vlog today Giselle. It reminded me of my childhood visits to Germany between 1969, when I was 7 years old, through to 1974 when I was 12. We visited a little town called Rhinesheim. We are British from the U.K. and we met 2 lovely German families whilst on holiday in Spain in 1966. My parents became good friends with the two families, where we would alternate visits to them and them to us back in the U.K.. They were called the Schneider’s and the Roenbachers. They were both Wonderful families who always welcomed us when we visited Germany. Many a day we would travel to the Black Forest, eating picnics and playing on kayaks in the Black Forest river. You brought back happy childhood memories for me. Thankyou

All rice dishes need the rice washed really well. That means to wash in running water until the water runs absolutely clear. If you do this preparation as described, you'll end up with really nice fluffy rice.
Ah, rhubarb... I love it. My grandma used to make "Rhabarberkompott"- Steam rhubarb pieces in a little bit of water until they fall apart, add sugar and thicken it with some pudding powder mixed with a little bit of water. Allow to cool and serve with whipped cream. Aaahhh... Those childhood-memories... Thanks a lot Giselle!

I am vegan as well and I used the jasmine rice (had a bunch left over when I made a curry). I also used the condensed coconut milk to sweeten with cinnamon, nutmeg, and really good Mexican vanilla. It was fantastic.

This old gal learned something new from this video! I have always cut my rhubarb, but pulling it like you and your friends were doing is far less wasteful! I’ll be making even more strawberry and rhubarb pies from now on!

I had not seen this before either. I have seen a top crust or a crunchy topping of flour, sugar, oatmeal or streusal. Looks amazing.

we make our own soup stock with chicken bones and veggies :)...just everything into one big pot :)
