I recently bought myself a tractor. The Farmer already had two farm tractors but I wanted one for my garden so now I have a JD 2210. Your greasing suggestion sounds like it came straight from my husband. He buys grease tubes by the case.

All good tips! I would add -1) keep the tractor (and attachments) out of the elements. Keep them in a building. It will extend the life. 2) Know the capacities and limitations of your tractor. Don't push it too far. 3) As for banking - Pay attention to the 'pucker' factor! Thanks for sharing! - Rick

What coolant do you use in your TYM 574 Hank? My TYM574 has a strawberry colored coolant and when I needed to add more after the summer heat, my dealer told me to use a STP brand carried at tractor supply. The problem is that was a yellow coolant, so I didn't add it because I heard others say don't mix colors. I contacted the dealer who assembles tractors in my state and they told me the coolant used in the tractors (Recochem - HD EXPERT - Extreme Life Diesel), but that brand isn't available in stores or online to consumers, so now I'm not sure what to add to my tractor. So I just had to resort to adding distilled water to my radiator and made sure my freeze point didn't lower too much while I try to find a solution to this problem.
My tractor is 1 year old and has 20+ hrs on it and I am thinking I will now need to drain my radiator fluid and start from scratch because there is not a coolant I can top off with from Napa, Auto Zone, or any other parts store and topping off with water is eventually going to lower my freeze point too much.

I don't think colors matter as much as they used to. But I would use a red and probably be an OAT type coolant. But I am by no means a coolant expert.

Great video as always Hank ! My little tractor is a 2016 Kubota BX1870 54 inch cut belly mower no loader model. Mainly purchased for a super garden tractor quality. I mow property with it and use rear lift for carry all and a 4 foot box blade. Dad has a loader on his B 1550 so I didn’t need one really. I go by the owners manual for service and you know as cheap as oil is, changing frequently isn’t going to hurt anything. My advice on oils is especially for Kubota use their transmission oils ! One more tip, change the coolant as recommended with a quality product ! For me Kubota dealerships are more easily found around my area. Have nothing against any other brands, if I had a TYM dealership close I may have went that way because I like the one you have and I really love red ! Have a Blessed Day !

Doing those checks and performing the scheduled maintenance is key to keeping your vehicles running a LONG time.

If you are new to operating a tractor - PRACTICE! Don't assume you can start it up and do that big job if you've never operated the equipment before. Start small and don't jump into that big job until you are completely sure of what you are doing.

Great video Hank. Something I've thought about for sometime I believe a dealer should be required to ether load the back tires with ballast or install wheel weights for a tractor that's sold with a loader.

    • @wildbill23c

Depending on the applications the tractor will be used for, you might rather stick with removable ballast whether it be a ballast box, or suitcase weights. For a small tractor that gets used around the house on your lawn, you really don't want all that weight on there all the time, so being able to quickly and easily remove the ballast box or suitcase weights if you are mowing for example is nice...filling the tires is a terrible idea for smaller tractors unless you are never going to use it around your house on your lawn.

I think the most important consideration when buying a tractor is not color or price. Its dealer network and support. I just happen to have 4 JD and 4 Kubota dealers within a hours drive. The other brand's dealers are so few and far between around me.

  • @wildbill23c
    @wildbill23c Год назад

I usually grease my tractor every 10 hours of use....by that time everything that needs greased, needs greased again. Right after I got my tractor I went around and checked all the nuts and bolts, just about every lug nut was loose, hydraulic leak right off the bat and was easily fixed by tightening a couple of fittings. When I got my tractor they were so swamped its no wonder the simple things were missed during the pre-delivery inspection by the dealer.
Getting ready to do my annual oil/filter change this next weekend. Oil/filters are cheap...I'm not waiting 200+ hours to change the oil/filter like the manual says, that is ridiculous. I'll change the oil/filter once a year....and fuel filters at a minimum of once a year. Its cheap reassurance that the tractor is going to work when I need it to. I only have about 75 hours on my tractor, and that's about 1-1/2 years since I bought it....I set a time on a weekend once a year and go through and do the oil/filter, lube, checking adjustments, etc. I usually do the tractor, my lawn tractor, push mower, etc. all at the same time...mark the date and hours on the filters as well. I try to keep track of services in an Excel spreadsheet for each piece of equipment and vehicle, but sometimes its just nice to look at the filter and know when it was done last.
The manual may tell you a certain grade the tractor can do, but keep in mind that is in ideal conditions. Ballast, ground conditions, and your ability to operate the machine all play a role in what the tractor can actually do. A simple task as mowing a hill might pose a rollover or a slide down a hill that you've gone up and down dozens of times in the past but happened to be wetter that day for example.
Keep your loads in the loader as low as possible, the higher you go the less stable the tractor will become....you need ballast on the back of the tractor and a lot of it for doing proper loader work, or using pallet forks, a grapple, etc. The manual for my tractor states the amount of ballast needed for loader operation, most manuals probably do somewhere, might not be the tractor, might be in the loader's manual itself.

Look at your tractor's owner's manual it'll tell you what to use. Typically though, a regular all purpose moly grease will work fine for your loader and 3 point hitch and mower deck spindles. For coolant, check the overlow bottle on the tractor, what color is it? Answered your own question that way.

In all honesty these machines can kill you. Got to be smart. My advice is to get to know your Tractor and it’s capabilities. The Deere 5,000 series was very unstable. Wanted to turn over on slightly uneven ground. Not knocking Deere or the 5 series but the guys that work for me said they thought it was a dangerous Tractor. I had to drop the bucket with 3/4 load in it constantly because it was going to turn over. The guy that sold me the Tractor drove it and he almost lost it. Just saying.

If the individual is not familiar with tractors or at least equipment operation, they should buy from a dealer even if buying used. The resourcefulness of the dealership personnel will be invaluable to a new owner, from the parts department, to the service department and even an experienced salesman can guide a new owner through most any issue.
This falls in line with your comment to shop around, but more than shop tractors (which needs yo be done) you really need to shop the dealership as Hank said!
