He nailed it... I'm 52... I vividly recall the 1970's to 1990's doorbell moments... friends & family stopping by to just say hello... come in stay a half hour to hour... have some soda, snacks... walk them out to their car... hugs, say good night... America was much different then...

Doorbell routine absolutely spot on. I grew up in the 50’s-60’s. German family. My mom always had baked cakes, especially on weekends. Friends visited a lot on Sunday afternoons or Saturday. Sanka could be offered or the electric percolator was put on. You were happy for company, especially if they had kids and you could play in the backyd or front if warm. No worries about being abducted!!
    Social interaction was abundant.
Fast forward to the present-- eye to eye conversation all but gone at dinner time, if you even eat together. In restaurants adults and kids on phones, texting. No wonder young people can’t string a grammatically correct sentence together. It’s all abbreviations, and smart phone code. Ahhhhh! Now texting is the oral conversation of 50’s to 70’s. Social media is changing young people’s exchanging of social discourse and manners. Internet has its positives, however, I’m glad I was brought up in an era of simplicity, cherishing family, company over, and manners! I hope somehow we can return to a little of that small town life!

True call. Hysteria. Check out data from the CDC, also easily found in the DHHS web site. In the last couple of years, that's 2019-18, 34,000 Americans died of Influenza. Flu. It's a death rate of 7% out of all Americans who got it bad enough to require hospitalization, which reached the staggering number of 500,000. Total number of Americans diagnosed with the flu last winter was, brace yourself - 16.5 million! 5% of the American people were sick enough with the flu to go see a doctor. 3% of them needed hospitalization, out of that 3 %, 7% kicked the bucket. Nobody gave a rats turd about that.
Btw, though I know overeating is not a physically contagious epidemic, do you know how many Americans died of Obesity? 300,000! 300K for duck's sake! But that's obesity. If you count ALL fat people who died due to constantly stuffing their faces with unhealthy quantities of food, you get 3,000,000!
3 million!!! 1% of the entire American population die each year from overeating.
      Corona is children play.

XmanSully, I agree with you to a certain point. They, the professionals who are experts in disease control, still do not know how it is really spreading. To be cautious is the right way to be thinking. Good hygiene is the number one practice to be implemented. Most people don’t really wash their hands. Especially in hospitals. So, even though your statistics might be right, it doesn’t change the fact that people are being infected and dying. If you survive, it might be awhile for a full recovery. To conclude my thought, media, yes I agree, they are known for pushing rumors. But, to consider this situation as a minor thought or just another contagious disease is a little on the denial side. The virus is spreading and more people are being infected everyday. I say be aware and to thank God or whatever you believe in, everyday is a blessing, to be with your loved family and friends. Today, would be a good day be thankful and laugh as much as you can.

In our Lithuanian household, the rule was steadfast and unchanging. A cup of coffee was in a guest's hands within five minutes and food offered in about 15...30, if they were close enough by blood to have something cooked for them.

Even 80s kids remember this. I could relate to this so much. It’s really true how times have changed.

I laughed myself silly over this. I'm 58, and grew up in Queens. This was 100% our life in the 70's and 80's, and we loved it!
Look! It's Aunt Chris and Uncle Ray!

My girlfriend‘s family had the best linoleum in their kitchen and family room. We could go across the whole floor with about 20 feet of sliding.

Army crawl...I tip toe and creep out the curtains thru the tiny slit. If I haven't invited you to my home, then the person at my door is trespassing. Times have changed. Sabastian has the funniest way describing anything, it never gets old.
