    As a native Wisconsinite I am proud but also moderately perplexed by the fact that 2 of the most popular speakers companies on home theater RUclips channels (Perlisten and JTR) are both from based in Wisconsin. I guess it make sense being that this state is a frozen wasteland for 4 to 6 months every year so staing inside and watching movies and listening to music is a preferable option over dong things outdoors during those months.

Though I will say the AMTs used by Monitor Audio or Eikon for example are pretty good.

  • @hobblyjig

    My setup doesn’t approach the price of the Perlisten. But I do have a comment on crossovers.
    I have Polk R700 fronts, L400 center, R200 rear surrounds, and an SVS SB-1000 in a 5.1. I’m running the LCR off Emotiva HC-1 monoblocks and the surrounds off of the TX-RZ50 AVR. I like to watch movies at reference volume fairly often.
    I have found that I prefer running the fronts full range and crossing the center and surrounds at 40. The speakers have a lot of bass to contribute and I enjoy bass coming from the rear speakers. According to my DIRAC measurements the fronts have an in-room response all the way to 23Hz. I don’t see a reason to give that up by setting them to small. Especially since “double bass” is an option on my AVR so I don’t lose the sub’s help.

  • @GameSack
    @GameSack 2 года назад +6

    These look pretty awesome, though I've never been impressed with a horizontally-oriented design for a center channel. Reason being is that it collapses the sound stage a bit. Yes the tweeter and mid range are right in the middle, but the woofers extend quite far from the actual center. I don't care what anyone says, bass is directional. Sadly not everyone can have a vertically-oriented center channel... just one of those bad things about being in a home rather than a real theater I guess. You could always go the old AMC TORUS/HITS route and have the tweeter and midrange at the top of your screen and the woofers at the bottom. Actually I don't recommend anyone try to replicate anything AMC does at home... but with a smaller home screen it might not be so awful. Of course ideally everything would be behind the screen. And yes I run everything full range here. Again bass is directional. Home THX can get fukt, cinema THX specs are where it's at.

      @@rogerhalt3991 google MTM center channel configuration issues ... in short, human hearing is very sensitive in horizontal plane and not so in vertical plane.. thats why MTM design can be pretty bad in horizontal usage and not a problem in vertical usage..

    • @GameSack
      @GameSack 2 года назад

      @@rogerhalt3991 I have no graphs, but think of it this way: if the Left, Center, and Right speakers are all playing the same sound simultaneously (like the OG Lion King Blu-ray from a while back) the sounds don't appear exactly from the center, especially if you're not sitting directly in the center. Now a sound bar wouldn't be this bad and like I said at least the treble and the mid range are directly in the center, but having the woofers out so wide would alter it a little. Oriented vertically, everything is perfectly in the center.

      Interesting. Can you expand on what it means to run high level support from your subs? How would one go about setting that up?

      Maybe, but you'd be crazy not to go with whatever sounds best rather than choosing based on looks, especially for home theatre where you shouldn't even see the speakers.
