    What I love about audio advice is they aren't just an online company selling products. If you are ever in NC, they have two huge locations that you can come in and experience similar theaters. They also have listening rooms with some of the best audio equipment in the world. I've been a customer since the early 90s.

    At the outset of the video when you showed the theater subs I thought this was just going to be a “nice” setup - nothing extraordinary…until I saw the subs chosen. Those JL’s are premium and no joke. Having 4 is absolutely extraordinary.

    Defiantly some strong hardware choices in this one...respect!
    Not sure I would go with a white ceiling up to the screen though...the loss of contrast from that reflection washing out the image must be very noticeable, but the owner gets what the owner wants.

    • @tharrigan5661
      @tharrigan5661 3 года назад

      We always thought to try the white first and then paint if needed. I’ve not seen any washing out of the image, much to my surprise in this room. I can’t explain why, I’ve just not seen the image impacted at all.

    • @sickjohnson
      @sickjohnson 3 года назад

      @@tharrigan5661 Very strange...maybe you would need to do an A vs. B comparison...have one room all like black velvet and then one all white painted walls and ceiling to really illustrate it?

    • @thillyard1
      @thillyard1 3 года назад

      I’ve built several home theaters and I started with white ceilings and now, with my high contrast JVC projector, did a specially made absolute black paint . It made a huge difference. Then I added velvet panels as well to the front screen area (I also have an AT screen). The velvet panels made an even bigger impact on the contrast. Having said that there are design choices at play in almost any theater and this time my wife let me go all in!
      Really enjoyed the video a very nice room and very thoughtfully planned.

      Maybe from the audio perspective. From the projection perspective, you don't pick a top of the line JVC for a room with a plain white ceiling.

    Absolutely incredible build, y'all. But what will never make sense to me is that the electronics and acoustics were compromised so that K-Scape could be installed. What I mean is that instead of getting a TOL processor and amps, we went with an MRX1140 which is screamin out distortion in order to hit Dolby specs. Not heavily-distorted sound, I mean distortion in the delivery of the sound that causes so much listening fatigue after a long movie. There's an enormous amount of THD and very low signal/noise ratio when that processor is being asked to pump 105splc peaks to the reference seating position in that room. (I have a very similarly sized room) Choosing a processor with far higher SINAD and very low THD will have a transparent sound that is very hard to describe but the best way I can put it is that it feels real and my ears are not fatigued after a long movie set to a Dolby or THX spec reference level. I'm sure you've heard what I'm talking about at a trade show in the super high end rooms. Especially in something like an Anthony Grimani designed room or the like.
    K-Scape is an incredible product. But there are so many lossless alternatives that are not near the price that would've freed up a ton of budget to not only improve the acoustic treatment in the room to get an even diffusion of sound and a room decay time down in the .3sec range. The effectiveness of the 2-2.5" absorption you're using is good from 20khz down to about 1khz and then rapidly becomes less effective to very ineffective at 200hz and below. 6.5-7" deep panels are effective all the way down to about 90hz. The back of the room needs both diffusion and absorption. The diffusion only choice was very odd. Also, it would've freed up the cash to get something like the Monolith HTP-1 or a used Altitude 16 (even more options now 2yrs later) and then pair that processor with amps again from Monolith or Outlaw, or even Buckeye Amps or a similar company. THEN we look at a very nice blu-ray player or upgrade to an R_Volution or equivalent style player. I know the R_Volution option isn't very fair since it's relatively new and wasn't an option 2yrs ago.
    I'm admittedly very jaded against the K-Scape for their less-than-true bit-rate marketing but it has fine enough quality that 90% or more people couldn't distinguish from true lossless video (audio is more compressed than the video is on K-Scape) but I'm most turned off by the price. Admittedly, I'm not in the super rich category. So, I don't mind ripping my personal copies of movies that I own to a drive that I can then play from an R_Volution or R_Volution style player. I bought the 8k Signature along with a 16tb drive, and a specially flashed external bluray drive with (completely legal) software to rip my collection all for about $1,350ish. You gotta do what you gotta do with the cash that you have.
    None of this is a critique against Audio Advice. It's more just a rant of different choices made for different price points. My own issue.

    Beyond my resources at this level (space, budget), but still nice to see as well as some good tidbits that can apply to smaller scales. One question I have is related to sound proofing techniques. In Canada everything seems to be a little more expensive, and I’m building mine in the basement as an attic isn’t an option. For this room, I see use a lot of pink insulation, was there any other type of soundproofing that was done?

      @@SuperHerbie5353 well I was looking more for overall wiring, framing, carpet, system, etc… but after seeing $18,000 projector and $2000 a speaker I was like nope. Could be close to 100K. I’m mid build on a 16x20 room in my basement and I’ll probably have $20,000 in everything. But that’s free labor and a decent set up.

    Such a nice set up but the front of house would do my head in with the right side not lined up equal to the left according to the screen position.. or is that just camera angles

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  3 года назад

      The screen is centered on the seats, but the way the room was laid out caused it to be a bit off, but the camera angle does exaggerate it. Thanks for watching and commenting

    What are the dimensions of the room? Also, what is the name of the blue/gray paint on the walls? My wife said she likes it, so I gotta know so I can include it in my theater (with a black ceiling and velvet panels around the screen as others have pointed out).

    Hi Scott just wondering, which is the better type of projector in terms of video quality? Lamp, LED or Laser Projector?

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  2 года назад

      Great question, a lot more goes into it than just the light engine. You have to also consider everything else in the projector. There are outstanding models in all three of those categories and also some bad ones. But generally, these days, a laser from a highly regarded brand is a great way to go. Thanks for watching

    Very nice video -I really like everything about it. I’m designing my own home cinema right now and I have a question about the color for the wall. Is there anyone who knows what the color code is for it? I have been thinking a lot about choice of color myself -but in the moment I saw that color I knew 100% this is the color I want. The color I talk about is the one describes as traditional gray (I believe it is a mix of gray, green and blue). Thank you in advance. Henrik (Denmark)

    Those light walls and white ceilling are eating most of the NX9's native contrast. It's like you don't even have a JVC. Put some black velvet around the walls, on ceilling and on the floor. The image quality will improve massively. You need a room top to bottom covered in black velvet to see what JVC is really about.

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  2 года назад

      We agree that would provide better contrast but this is a multi use room and the client made the decision that it would feel like a cave if it was all black, especially with the low ceilings. Thanks for watching and commenting!
