So whew, this finally got out. This was an incredible pain zo upload thanks to both my software and my arm being dooodooo. I hope you enjoy!
Thanks for watching!
Now do Nen from hxh, the objective best (fun fact: "nen" is also the name of the power system in Ushio to Tora as the word itself much like ki/chi has religious origins)
If you know Holy Diver-Dio, ZA WARUDO! design have sense.
It's ok. It was obvious there would be spoilers
I'm really looking forward to a Nen video but how will you handle One Piece? It has more than one power system. Haki, Devil Fruits, and general Superhuman Strength.
Based on the inclusion of Fugo I'm guessing you didn't find out the reason that he was cut. He was actually intended to come back as an antagonist after he left the group, but that was dropped due to Araki feeling depressed and not wanting one of his characters that he considered sort of a friend to end up betraying the group. Later that plot point was made into a light novel though, which also fits with an another written independently in which Fugo is tasked with hunting down the gang's Narcotics group after the end of the manga. They expand on Fugo's character really well and are really good and I'd recommend them immensely, the first one is called Golden Heart Golden Ring and the second one is Purple Haze Feedback.
As Joseph said: "You may've outsmarted me but I outsmarted your outsmarting"

This is what I was coming to post lol great video as always! I still haven't watched it tbh but I love power system videos so more please!
How did I not realize that lol.I love holy diver.
I mean, you barely scratched the surface in terms of "subtle" references in one's stand, and how it connects to the user.
Yoshikage Kira, a serial killer, possesses a stand that is able not only to kill instantly, but also to remove any evidence. It also connects to the "Killer Queen" lyrics- "guaranteed to blow your mind".
The Lock, stand of Tamami, a coward and a prick, forces other to feel guilt, which Tamami can use to his own benefit. Echoes and Tusk evolve, as their used does- with Echoes basically portraying Koichi's change from a coward and insignificant kid into adult and couragous man.
I mean, it even works in Part 3- Hierophant Green isn't just a pointless name for the sake of a tarot card- a hierophant is, in short, "someone that is supposed to bring in the important messege"- kinda the thing Kakyoin does in the end. Joseph's stand is the only one of the main crew that doesn't really work like a stand- and the only one that's able to support Hamon abilities, which shows that Joseph is too old to get used to the "new" system. And yeah... there are more... weird/subtle things... Jotaro/Star Platinum is being guided by 3 sages (hierophant, hermit, magician) to the place where God/Dio is born. And son of Dio/God, Giorno, is being able to ressurect people, and in the end puts the Diavolo/Devil to eternal slumber... Araki wtf
o C e A N i z f O r g O T
Everything from Joseph onward is a bit of a stretch (especially the three magi parallel, as they went to DIO, not Giorno). Good write up, though, and Giorno does share a lot of tangential similarities to Jesus.
Th line "dynamite with a laser beam" in the song is also a likely inspiration for Killer Queens power, more so the dynamite part than the laser part though.
Well..."slumber" is not exactly the most accurate word to describe what happens to Diavolo.
Also, Sheer Heart Attack is an incredibly powerful ability, born from the left hand of Kira (everyone's favourite hand fetishist).
I like how iggy had a human face after a couple of ep
Iggy's true stand ability.
And they left it in the Anime
i hate it
Better then the realistic, but also potato like face he had before. I’d say it’s better human like, since it allows the viewer to connect with the character more, it’s the same reason the new lion king will never compare to the old one.
Correct Opinion but you wouldn’t sympathize with him nearly as much, plus it’s anime, lots of the designs make no sense. By that logic Jotaro looking like he’s in his 30’s is way worse.
Ok I have one issue with the video, its about how to get a stand. You say "be born with it" but every human with a soul is born with it. Its about crafting yourself as a person that dictates how you get a stand. As Stands are the next form of human evolution in the universe of JoJo. This is why the arrow and virus work so effectively at culling unworthy.
Wow, that actually clears up something about stands for me. Love your videos.

Wow, were the Darby brothers the inspiration for Pegasus?
Considering Duel Monsters Season 0 goes hard AF, I would be more surprised if Kazuki Takahashi wasn’t taking direct cues from JoJo. The Pharaoh is basically a Stand with the Heart of the Cards ability.
Kamen rider transformations, His trip in Egypt, Kazuki Takahashi's asshole friend when he was young, gambling and games in general, friendship and this battle from part 3 inspired him to make yugioh. And later into Yugioh Duel Monsters because card games are profitable because of the popularity his several chapters using the bootleg MTG and his audience egged him on.
Actually JoJo's did inspire Yu-Gi-Oh!.
Hey, to be fair, Star Finger was actually used at least 3 times in Part 3, all against different opponents.

a correction, gold experience's ability to mess with people's minds is not forgotten, it's just not mentioned again. people still feel each punch in slow motion, but it would be a waste of space in the manga to hear people saying how they're feeling the punches in slow motion again and again, and giorno himself says repeating stuff is useless
besides, if you read the manga knowing every enemy feels giorno's punches in slow motion, the fight vs green day becomes even better knowing ciocollata got punched for 7 pages straight
I mean besides Green Day fight did he ever had a chance to punch a human after the fight with Bruno that doesn't have ice suit on.

The best part about Jojo fights being BS is that the BS goes both ways. Both fighters are outsmarting each other with a "you thought of that but I thought of this!".
i.e. Jotaro vs. DIO fight, in that scuffle DIO has the advantage, but him knowing how crafty the Joestars are, he spends a lot of the fight freaking out and being cautious about everything Jotaro does, from the magnet moving his had to Jotaro playing dead and he tries everything to prove he's alive while not getting closer.
Another example is Kira vs. Josuke, the fight is primarily on Josuke's favor because guess what, in a fair hand to hand? Crazy Diamond will destroy Killer Queen. So Kira spends most of his time away from Josuke and keeping distance, using fakeouts and traps, because that's how his Stand excels. Josuke isn't also a punch laser type, sure he needs to deck Kira in the schnozzle, but he also needs to back off because that man turns bombs out of anything, it's primarily why the Kira and Josuke fight is one of the best in the series.
It creates tension for the bad guy and also for the hero. Araki is trying to entertain you, the viewer/reader, which is pretty much the point of why you're reading/watching his work in the first place.
Both examples were the stand users using a strategy based on their opponent's stands and personality. How is that BS?
@@hootclesia both of them were also examples of somewhere in the fight, they pull out some stuff they either got offscreen to specifically counter something that their opponent was specifically going to do.
Its strategic but also BS, I have no problem with that, that's pretty much one of the reasons why I've love JoJo.
Rohan Kishibe and 『Heaven's Door』 Both fighters are like, in the words of the great Joseph Joestar, “You may have outsmarted me, but I outsmarted your outsmarting!”
did you mean battle shonen? or bullshit?
this is very good in JoJo, every battle is different from the one before, and JoJo fights are not like: ha I'm strong, ha I'm stronger than you. The fighters needs to use their minds, that is why some weak stand can completely destroy op stands, like Jotaro vs Bug Eater
So, the thing with Giorno's ability to slow other people. I don't think there is ever a case where he punches someone and they survive for too long afterwards, so he technically could have still had it. He just didn't need it because the rest of GE is so damn OP.
Also, he can toggle it at will. There's very few times where it would've been more useful instead if opting to do something else.
He doesn't use it as much cause as we see in the Black Sabbath fight it slows him down as well which makes it not as useful
Every time he lands a direct hit in the anime, there's a slow down effect...
Except for green day....
I think Gold Experience was not so op, because in part 5 the most part of the stands were humanoid, and Gold Experience's life ability has no effect on stands, if Gold Experience was in part 7 or 8, that would be so fucking busted, since the most part of stands don't even show themselves, and let the fighters exposed to Gold Experience's power
A better example of a forgotten GE power would be things it creates "fighting back" when they're hit. He gave life to Bruno's corpse which got hit multiple times and that ability was never shown. That's a small thing tho, I don't think anyone cared

An extra note of what makes stands a good power system:
Aside from the fact that they have stands, (almost) all stand users are normal people. Thus you generally shouldn't run into those situations of "I'm simply too powerful for you to be able to beat me" (see: Bleach, DBZ, etc.). If you get past the opponent's stand power, they're just a normal person who is just as susceptible to your attack as anyone else. So no-one is unbeatable.
Except over heaven DIO
@@lawrencehortizuela4978 Really, vanilla DIO already breaks the "normal mortal susceptible to most attacks" rule. Hence the almost.
@@lawrencehortizuela4978 Novel Kars, "SPOH", God: hi
Its funny cause pretty much every stand user, even the reality warping ones, could be easily killed with a car.
Even thats a little too extreme, a reasonably heavy book, a normal chair, a standard 3DS could all kill a stand user the same way it could kill a regular
That's one reason that the fight with Dio in Part 3 is so good, on top of his stand because insanely strong, he also is still an immortal vampire that can rip you apart in seconds. Like, the road roller wouldn't have been possible for any other stand user even with time stop because he's the only guy that could go find and pick one up, or how even the few times Jotaro does trick him and give him serious injuries he just walks it off.
DIO, underwater, Holy Diver by DIO, his name means 'God,' his stand is an Adonis figure with golden scuba gear, how did I miss that?
Edit: That adds some context to Jotaro's line about pulling a pro diver who's going up for air back down to the depths.
It's not necessarily golden, but otherwise, spot on.

Oceaniz: "Regardless of physical or mental strength"
Holly:
Bruh
@@Playerofakind She does TECHNICALLY have a stand, she simply can't bring it out due to lack of spiritual strength and lack of desire. It's simply no longer killing her by being FORCED to manifest itself by an outside factor. If she decided to take a more active role in developing/training her stand, she probably could manifest it eventually, like Koichi did, or Josuke/Giorno. Keep in mind, Holly's personality is basically a doormat, to both her son and father (and probably husband), so she's very much lacking.
it is somewhat interesting though that Jolyne had to force her stand via the Arrow, instead of inheriting it from the slew of stand users she shared blood with. Though that might be cause none of the other Joestars were ever directly pierced by the arrow, and once Jonathan's body was destroyed, that Pressure from the arrow to develop stands was also removed forever.
@@ZanathKariashi I think it's because they have to be born first then a family member inherits it but if you are born after it then it's gone. And also what you said
Cool story about Giorno's life shot
Now, consider that in all his future battles, he either didn't land a punch at all (man in the mirror, babyface) or killed his opponents by punching/kicking them (white album, Green day, Diavolo). Whether Araki forgot it or not, he just wasn't able to use it, easy enough.
Star Platinum's star finger, that's a fair point.
If Jotaro and DIO have the same type of stand, then is The World able to use Star Finger?
Yet Araki never forgot about Star Finger
Ok but imagine this
Jotaro uses star finger in Dio
But since the world is faster Dio breaks star platinums fingers
The life shot was used in the 7 page Muda
Star Finger is only useful when SP can’t move or has to keep a distance, normally its just faster to run up to the enemy and punch em

Unless Holly's desires for Jotaro to get back on track and stop being a deliquent manifested as a Stand that hurt her in order to give Jotaro a goal to work towards. 16:40 I actually think that abbacio's stand has it's ability because it helps him as a cop (even tho he's not a cop anymore) because it's a perfect tool to solve any crime - just make moody jass play someone and there you can know what he has done and which crimes he done or didn't
Or he just regrets his past so his stand literally replays it
I'd say in terms of creating an interesting combat encounter, Nen is the best. But thematically, stands are incredibly profound if you take the time to research the connotations (musical, cultural, and sometimes religious) imbued into their design. For example, Pucci a priest, has the stand Whitesnake, a reference to the devil, and the four nucleobases of DNA written upon it, signifying atheism or anti-theism. Johnny's stand ability representing his mental growth, Valentine's representing his heartbreaking past and noble ambition...Araki is the GOAT.
What metric are you using to determine the best? Comparing Stands to Nen is like comparing Chakra to Ki. They’re just different. Combat in Jojo is more psychological and Hxh is more physical.
Lmao DNA=atheism and Whitesnake being the devil, what are you talking about? Araki himself said the stand was just his image of an executioner. The DNA is there along with the delta symbol of physics to foreshadow the future assimilation of Green Baby, due to "Missing a gene".
D4C is just the president's unending search for the best possible world for the USA, it's not an ambition, it's something he's forced to do because D4C would eventually reach every single Valentine and the mission with it.
But what does DNA have to do with atheism?!?! I mean, I belive in a God BECAUSE I belive in science. They arent different

@@mimszanadunstedt441 Yep, even Kira was trashed by Jotaro, and that was after he was nerfed and being blown by Sheer Heart Attack
how is anything about requiring stands a retcon? in part 3, all that is said is that the reason jotaro, joseph got stands is because of dio. and you said it in this video, getting hit with a arrow could give your decedents stands too. everything relating to stand arrows in part 5 is simply discovering and expansion, not retcon. also, pretty sure there was never any points after giorno discovered that ability where he didn't muda a enemy to defeat, nor was there any other times he was actually able to use that ability.
as for characters having secrete side abilities, thats not a objectively bad thing, i don't mind when it does happen, and as you said, it doesn't happen always.
Well, and it is true regardless. Dio was pierced by an Arrow of that old hag, since she also had the bow, guess were most of the stands came from. And as it is stated in SDC Egyptian Arc, all the stand users before were defeated, she created another 9 stand users with that exact arrow and bow. In part 4 they even had a Picture of her with the same arrow and bow.
So in short: Dio was pierced, the decentants from Jonathans Body are obviously Joseph, Holly and Jotaro and they developed the stands after dio was pierced.
@@CirnoChiru Not all of the Egypt Nine were granted Stands by the Arrow, and Enya couldn't have done so in the story because she was dead by then. N'doul specifically always had his Stand, and Caravan Serai died centuries before SC. @@CirnoChiru What he said is all stated in the anime. Granted, they are small lines that can easily be missed
I think my favorite instance of stands being a representation of aspects of their user is Killer Queen and Kira. First of all, KQ is a cat, an animal stereotyped as being introverted and hostile. Then there's the fact that Killer Queen uses bombs to eradicate anything it touches from existence. It doesn't just violently obliterate, something Kira does in a metaphorical sense in that he's a serial killer, and a highly destructive force because of that, but also the fact that it does so in a way that I believe is implied not to alert others, so it's symbolic of how Kira is a quiet, silent, highly destructive force who does horrible things under peoples' noses. It's so much metaphor packed into one stand, and that's not even getting into how Killer Queen's abilities tie into the song he's named after.
“Got all that? No? Good, let’s jam”
Weirdly hype
Star Finger was used twice as far as I'm aware: Dark Blue Moon and Strength.
@thespooksterman Interesting fact, against Anubis the third Star Finger was an anime only addition.
I was waiting for this, pls Devil fruits as power system
It's the same concept. Too put characteristics layer on character & make fights more entertaining.
For example Admiral Kizaru with Pika Pika no Mi. Kizaru are slow & aloof but possess a power of light which fast, precise & destructive. Why? You don't put 2 OP traits in a single character. If Kizaru is characteristically fast & precise, Pika Pika no Mi would be too OP to fight against. Imagine you put a (impossibly sturdy & invincible) magnifying glass in front of a sun, it'll focused the light emits & destroy stuff easy.
One Piece also introduce counter measure of Devil Fruit in case normal human try to fight against in the form of Haki. Unlike Jojo that only Stand Users fighting among themselves, in One Piece normal human (Shank, Rayleigh, Sentomaru) can weight in the fight too. Granted you have to master any of 3 forms of Haki.
@@heyalfikr I dont call them norman humans as well XD.
But he can talk about haki and devil fruits on the same video, i dont think that is a bad idea

@@misaki-chan-5839 It was a straight rip off.
And I'll tell you how it works if you ask nicely.
I love this video for the sole fact that Abbacchio is my favorite character
The problem is that when a protagonist group has very specific powers and they have to fight a lot, they eventually run out of twists they can use against enemies. That's the reason the groups of protagonists in Jojo are quite big, but it's also why the story has to drastically change every arc. The characters are spent, they have nothing else "really" interesting to do, fight wise, so you just have to start over. I don't like the heights of power escalation in modern shounen, but when a power system is used to create diversity between different characters and also a progression of complexity and variety in a single character usage of their power, that's when the real fun begins. The most interesting fights in Bleach are between characters who have weird powers and abilities that constantly evolve and adapt, while the least interesting are Ichigo vs the Dragon Ball super villain of the arc, with whom he just exchanges laser beams and sword clashes until one overpowers the other (2 power ups minimum per character). Only exception is the Grimmjow fight, because it has a really good dynamic between the characters.

Yes and no. It behaves like an automatic stand, but it's still linked to Killer Queen's (and in turn, Kira's) hand. Because of this, the user's hand is still affected by whatever happens to it, he just doesn't suffer direct damage. That's why Three Freeze affected Kira when Star Platinum's punches couldn't.
Sheer heart attack is part off killer Queen think of it kinda like a colony stand made up of two beings or simply just a heat seeking bomb killer Queen can make.
@@dapperparraper860 so it is sheer heart attack is pretty much all of them
Sheer Heart Attack is not a stand, it's a stand ability. Its an automatic attack to a non-automatic stand
@@brosephnoonan223 Exactly because it´s a stand ability connected to Killer Queen´s arm, Kira´s own arm suffered the gravity eff, it´s a automatic driving bomb tank
Another small problem is that often the reason a stand has a specific ability is because of a random piece of trivia araki learned that week, and sometimes this works really well, metalica for example came from araki wondering if there was enough iron in the human body to make a nail, but sometimes it really really falls on its face, with the most infamous example being dragons dream.
I agree that most of the problems of stands dont come from the system, but more of araki not planning. Even though i dislike him droping GE slow down ability because he realized it was broken, it was for the best.
the design of THE WORLD is inspired in the song and first album of DIO: Holy Diver
Can we apreciate that every stand fight is unique and not every villain has to overpower that one from the last Episode. The fact that star platinum could beat something like the world, but wasnt that effective against a rat is great. (Wow the last part Sounds strange)
If you're going through part 3 I suggest actually looking up the meanings of the taroh cards. They'll give you much greater understanding of the characters.
Araki may be somewhat inconsistent but he's an incredible character writer. Also, keep in mind that the characters, worlds and themes he creates are extremely fleshed and quite intricate. He writes out who character sheets full of info we never learn about them. It's obvious he's more concerned with the overall flow and character/theme interactions than keeping everything air tight and easily understandable. It plays will into jojo's as whole anyways. He's was smart calling it bizarre. Gives him a lot more leeway and I like that.
0:00-25:40 holie molie is that a jojo's reference!
Would've been cool if a part focused on securing the meteor/fragments before an evil entity finds it and create new arrows/extract more virus to increase their power
5:27
Small correction: Sheer Heart Attack is an automatic stand, Kira has no real input nor does he know what happens during the fight.
On a separate note:
Personally I categorise stands in how they are controlled.
1. Direct control stands (like how you control your own limbs, you don't really think about it) would be the vast majority of stands, this would be your Star Platinum, Crazy Diamond, Killer Queen etc...
2. Automatic stands, act on their own accord, like a machine. This would be your Sheer Heart Attack and Black Sabbath.
3. Sentient stands, pretty self explanatory, they act on their own accord like automatic stands but also have their own sentience. This would be your Cheap Trick, Sex Pistols, Spice Girl and Hey Ya.
A side category would be malevolent stands: those that work against the users wishes (Holy's stand, Cheap Trick).
Another side category would be post mortem stands: stands that remain active even after death (Anubis, Notorious B.I.G. and Milagro man).
Of course, stands can be attached to multiple categories, like how Notorious B.I.G. is an automatic post mortem stand.
nah , in my opinion it's not, because it's a part of killer queen's hand so it explains why - when koichi used three freeze on sha, kira's hand was affected
Great video, really, it explains exactly why stands are such a great power system, possibly only second to Nen ( I mean, I guess it's debatable but I feel like those two are by far the best power systems I am aware of )
The world actually references one of Dio's songs, "Holy Diver"
I can say that Stand is one of my favorite power system because of the uniqueness in ability, references, adding depth to users' personalities and stories, and most of all, to make superpowers have their own face and shape.
the downside i can think of besides from the video is... by the complicated nature of the stands abilities, meanwhile it's a very interesting concept, may not fit into every style of storytelling. for example a 2 hr length movie that has not that much time to elaborately explain each powers without disrupting the flow of the storytelling. so, i think JoJo is absolutely perfect for being a long running manga series, the system fits very well
The reason DIO stand has scuba gear is because it is a literal translation of Ronnie James dios song “holy diver”
oh! i watched this video before i knew literally anything about jojo, as this was what initially introduced me, but now it’s been a while, i’ve watched all of jojo and now I’m back here watching your video again, but now with context
Yeah yeah
Holy Diver
You've been down too long in the midnight sea
Oh what's becoming of me
Ride the tiger
You can see his stripes but you know he's clean
Oh don't you see what I mean
Gotta get away
Holy Diver, yeah
Shiny diamonds
Like the eyes of a cat in the black and blue
Something is coming for you
Race for the morning
You can hide in the sun 'till you see the light
Oh we will pray it's all right
Gotta get away
Get away
Between the velvet lies
There's a truth that's hard as steel
The vision never dies
Life's a never ending wheel, yeah
Holy Diver
You're the star of the masquerade
No need to look so afraid
Jump on the tiger
You can feel his heart but you know he's mean
Some light can never be seen
Holy Diver
You've been down too long in the midnight sea
Oh what's becoming of me, no, yeah
Ride the tiger
You can see his stripes but you know he's clean
Oh don't you see what I mean
Gotta get away, get away (get away)
Gotta get away, get away, yeah, yeah
Holy Diver, sole survivor
Your heart is clean
Yeah, Holy Diver (Holy diver)
Holy Diver (Holy Diver)
You're caught in the middle coming after you, Holy Diver
Oh, Holy Diver (Holy Diver)
Get away, get away, get away, come on
These are the lyrics to Dio's song Holy Diver. As you can see bits of the story told in the song are reflected in Jojo's, (Dio being down too long in the midnight sea) and then there is less subtle things in Araki snuck in there (Dio still fears the Crusaders, the Joestars in particular, even when his advisors remind him of his immense power, as he is the star of their "masquerade" or state of hiding)(Dio's a vampire, cannot be in the light) and the line "Oh what's becoming of me" directly ties to Dio in part 1 when he first becomes a vampire, there is a bit more but this is a long comment already
There's also the way of obtaining a stand through a stand disk from the Stand
*[* WHITE SNAKE *]*
Personally I don't think Star Platinum's succ is inconsistent with the stand. Star Platinum is just pretty much a super human. Punches are harder, faster and more precise and he has enhanced vision. So I think it would make sense that it would also have a much stronger suction than a humans'. Yeah, it still feels like an asspull because no one could guess SP could do that. But that arc wasn't about fighting anyways, so I don't think it's a huge issue.
But yeah, Star Finger is just dumb.
star finger is him putting all his energy and strength into his two fingers and extending it
He can just broke pipe to punch monke but proceed insult it with star finger
19:00 you have GUTS to put this music
I'm surprised you didn't mention how Moody Blues, a stand used for investigation, or detective work, is used by the former cop.
Stands can have simple abilities, like punching stuff really hard or having a sword, or complex ones, like *a LEGO White House which must be buried somewhere so its user can manipulate the air pressure of the location in which it was buried* , or even *NY police officer*
『Starless Night』
Range: A
Speed: B
Power: D
Precision: C
Durability: C
Potential: D
Appearance: Takes the form of a huge semi mechanical humanoid figure wearing a white mask resembling a plague doctor with star covered robes that look like the night sky, it has a dark blue aura around it and has two spirits with positive and negative polarities attached to it, one made of light and the other made of shadow, they appear as ghostly shades resembling birds
Ability: Can mark the soul of a person using either the negative or positive spirit sent out from the stand, these are long range so they can easily scout out a personality to mark, once a match is found and chosen, the other spirit will mark it and activate the other, switching their souls, meaning that those souls will become the opposite of what they once were, this is a powerful disarming ability. The main body of the stand is attached to the user and can cloak them, it's fighting capability is average for a stand, having metal fists to send out punches at human speed.
The stand is a reference to King Crimson, I tend to get very defensive and bipolar and I have anxiety, this is the stand I came up with if I ever gained a stand.
I was drinking pop and when the picture of kakyoin saying "I see" came up I almost spit it out lmao
Araki really leaves out a lot of things, like stand ability (star finger, gold experience stun punch). Though they hardly appear anymore after their introduction. Araki didn't forget, but rather, Araki doesn't have to, but we wished he did. I wished old characters would return to later parts, but it rarely happens. Not because Araki forgot, but because Araki doesn't have to.
Araki didn't forget about Giorno's punches, nor his karma deflection. Every other time Giorno actually manages to hit the enemy user, the fight is over; its already assumed that Golden Experience is overloading them. The only other time karma redirection has a use is when giorno's scorpion stabs diavolo. In the manga, diavolo purposely rips off his own flesh to avoid it. The anime adaptation forgot, and had diavolo squish the scorpion, which should have left his own head stomped on by a boot instantly.
17:20 “the best fight in part 3”
I guess each to their own...
i think it sets up why dio is excellent at mindgames pretty well too, it has thematic relevance, i love it when fights have thematic relevance
Gold Experience's life punch might have been dropped entirely but at the same time it wasn't needed or applicable in the remaining fights Giorno participated in.
Black Sabath: Unaffected by the ability, which was only shown to be effective in humans and not in stands
Man in the mirror: Unapplicable given Illuso's ability to separate a stand from his user
Baby Face: Same as Black Sabath, Melone was miles away from Giorno and couldn't be reached
White Album: The extreme cold was shown to nulify Giorno's life giving ability to a halt
Notorious B.I.G: User was already dead, plus Giorno was attacked before the fight began
Green day: Unnecesary since he completely eviscerated Cioccolata with his punches once he finally got to him
King Crimson: Abilities changed once he acquired Gold experience requiem
Josuke can make anyone a stand user. He can heal any wounds so with him anyone can survive the virus(Koichi would not have survived a pierce without Josuke).
I really like the idea of The World being based on Dio's fear of being trapped underwater because of the way he reacts in the fight with Jotaro when Jotaro describes the feeling of being frozen in time as someone who can't hold their breath trying to go up for air but then being dragged back down.
I'd hesitate to call Stands a power system. A system is defined by it's rules, and literally every rule about Stands besides a handful have been broken or have some sort of exception. Hamon is a more consistent "system" because it's not as varied, but Hamon is just Qi.
Doesn’t matter whether you hesitate or not lol
The World was designed as a scuba diver as a subtle nod to Jotaro's future job as a marine biologist, and how its the same type of stand as Star Platinum
araki when making a stand, he said to himself: "what if a person is so mad that even his soul wants to beat the crap out of everything"
it's a joke, it would be cool if it's true, i guess...
12:11 if do not understand why polpo bites his fingers, I'll explain, basically it's they he activates his stand, because in the next panel or scene, he is shown holding a lighter that seems to appear out of thin air
Its a shame barely any mangaka has tried to tackle fights like araki.
That's a good thing. JoJo fights are usually entertaining but full to the brim with BS.

also with dio's 'the world's design looking like scuba gear, jotaro compared time stopping to going up for a breath of air while swimming only to be dragged back down
My other favorite power system is Nen from Hunter X Hunter. Like Stands, Nen has an information warfare aspect. In contrast however is that a Stand user doesn't get to choose his ability. He gets an ability and has to figure it out, except we never get any implications that stand users practice using their stand abilities outside of real fights to discover all its facets. I for one would put a lot of time researching my stand ability, so it's sad that literally no one in JoJo thinks the same. With Nen, you have to choose your abilities, so nen practitioners get a lot more agency in how they develop hatsus. The downside is that nen users can get screwed over royally and squander their potential if they make poor decisions as to what abilities to develop. In fact, a major theme of the Heaven's Arena arc, the one that introduces Nen, is to bring to light that danger and demonstrate why choosing the right Hatsus are of significant importance. I think this factor brings something to the table that JoJo Stands lack. Stands are all about tactics, but Nen battles instead begin with the characters developing their strategies, far before any fights actually take place, and play a significant role in their chances of victory. Theoretically, About 50% of Nen battles are decided by relative Ren output, and the rest is situational. I'd say A big chunk of that situational% is the compatibility between the opposing hatsus, whether one soft / hard counters the other.
Actually, we do get one example of a stand user practicing: DIO, who after gaining his stand, kept stopping time over and over in order to extend its duration.
Video on Nen is on the menu!
i dont think u can choose freely your ability or hatsu in hxh.
Most of the hatsu in hxh are defined by the personality of the user.
So the personality of the user give them a list of possible abilitys in function of his own personality, nen type and his objetive in life.
Plenty of Stand Users discuss how often they've practiced their Stands, and several others display the fact that they've practiced what their Stands can do. Imposter Tennille has trained himself to breathe underwater for extended periods of time on order to maximize the usage of his Stand, Mariah stuffs her clothes with bolts ad weaponry, and carries knives to use in conjunction with her ability, Lang specifically designed his suit to fight in a zero-G environment, Akira directly stated that he practiced and developed his ability as he killed Keicho, and Polnareff specifically stated he trained for years to prepare for killing his sister's murderer. There are most likely several other examples.
I get your point but it's kind of redundant. If you research and plan out an ability for your nen you're ultimately going to end up with the ability that most suits your personality and combat style (if you're doing it right). Stands however, being a physical manifestation of your soul, are literally your exact personality and combat style made into an ability. If you're a sneaky and shady assassin you'll get a stand that perfectly helps you kill people in just the way you need (Kira from part 4 has a stand that even removes the evidence of a murder!). If you've got a god complex and believe that you're better than everyone you get a stand that allows you to enter your own private world of stopped time. And even if your personality or desires change that's ok too because that's what the Development Potential stat is for. Koichi goes from a small and helpless boy just yelling at people to leave him alone to a confident and salty man and his stand grows with him.
No personality? Well I mean they do have kinds of their own because trish talks to her stand and Gold Experience Requiem talked about how his user doesn’t know about his true power. Meaning, they do have their own personality and mind just not free will
23:12
You're Wrong.
Ask Cioccolata.
Real shame is that he forgot about Josuke and giorno in part 6.
Teja AnnamReddy Pucci would’ve had a barrage of Mudas, Doras and Oras coming at him at the end and the universe would’ve been fine lol
Teja AnnamReddy He doesn't forget about them. He literally says in the manga that giorno was brought to Florida like all of dios sons. Josuke lives in Japan, why would he be in Florida?
He didn't use it on Cioccolata, although the video is still incorrect, because he uses it against Black Sabbath. Also, the ability is only done when Giorno applies GE's ability to people, and thus, it can be toggled at will. There's very few times where it would've been more useful instead of opting to do something else.
He also didn't forget about Josuke or Giorno, he decided not include them.
@@doomgu544 He doesn't say that Giorno was in Florida, he said that he may be in Florida. It was a teaser that Araki decided not to act upon.

Firstly
I took Cioccolata as Example.
He Used it on Enemies. Just like Jotaro whose opponents sometimes quote that his punches are so fast it looks like he stopped time. Every enemy doesn't state that their senses go berserk but we don't know about many of them from their perspective.
13:27 i always thought that the world had air tanks in it's back because it needed them to breath while time was frozen
2:24 but does it have spoilers for the manga because I'm still an anime-only
EDIT: Ok as I'd rather not spoil myself on jojo by watching this video I can't join the broader discussion so I'm just going to comment on the part of the video I have watched that being the intro and the only thing I have to say on that is the exclusion of other "macic systems" kinda bothered me I don't think it's a big deal or anything only that it felt weird only including manga but since that's what your discussing I guess it's fine
Yes it spoils the manga, sorry if Im not clear
Regarding your EDIT: Yeah my focus is very squarely on the manga/anime sphere. Branching it out further would bloat the content and I dont really want that.
Thanks for checking it out regardless, have fun watching Jojo :)
So Joseph awoken his stand after Caesar got pancaked? Or when DIO got pierced with the requiem arrow?
I'm just wondering because in bloody stream (part 2 op) you can see hermit purple in the background while the intro is playing.
He got it because of dio. You see hermit purple because it is a stand that is directly connected to hamon.
21:22 I’m sorry, I’m a bit confused about this part of the video. It says “the bad” but it’s on a video about JoJo’s bizarre adventure? A bit of a contradiction? Idk
Fun fact is that Araki created the Stand first before making a character.
13:20 Holy diver
My favorite instances of Stands reflecting ones’ personality are: Purple Haze, Grateful Dead, and Green Day. The former being a reflection of unintentional harm based off of uncontrollable anger, and the latter two being senseless murder based off their users’ lack of respect for life
The first stands were tarot cards I think you missed that. I.e. hermit purple is the hermit and magicians red was the magician.
Koichi's Stand is fucking genius. All he wants is people to listen to him, so his Stand allows him to make anyone listen to whatever the fuck he wants to. Then okay, people listen to him but his words seem like they have no effect on the real world, like no matter what he says he can't change his own luck or those of people around him, so his next Stand modifies matter through words. All throughout this, Koichi is turning from the shy boy we see at the beginning into a very confident and trustable man, so much so that Jotaro chooses him to go to Italy and find Giorno. To represent the growth of Koichi, Echoes Act 3 is a cocky son of a bitch insulting everyone around him and is capable of making anyone literally drop to the floor in front of him. His confidence reaching amazing levels. Its so goddamn cool.
Then we have people like Abbacchio, traumatized by his past, always regretful of what he did as a cop and how that led to the death of his partner. As a man who can't leave the past behind, his Stand allows him to look into the past and relive it.
And then someone like Alessi, who can't stand up for himself against adults like him so he takes it all out on children. His Stand represents how fucked up he is by allowing him to turn his enemies into kids so that he can actually do something against them.
Stands are just fucking amazing for character storytelling.
The fact that you insist on saying "ki" was introduced" by DB, "fantastic martial arts used by humans" was introduced by DB, etc, etc, kinda ruins the otherwise well-made video and showcases a little bit of fanboism, (not gonna blame you for that, DB is great), but also poor research (all of that with all due respect).
DB owns a lot to HNK and other series, that is not even close. The idea of ki, or even "unique fantastic martial arts" in DB was introduced way after HNK's popularity and concept (and popularity). At first, there was not "fantastic martial arts" in DB, they were just normal, even if exaggerated due to comedy, takes on kungfu and magic-related stuff. Heck the very first "ki" attack (or at least out of ordinary human capabilities due to control of self's energy) in DB was Roshi's Kamehameha in march 1985, while HNK's concept of unique-fantasy-overpowered-energy-martial arts debuted in september 1983). Also, that same take on comedic martial arts DB was all about lasted way longer after that first Kamehameha, until they finally tried to milk on the popularity of HNK and other similar series, becoming a little bit more "serious" on the subject and jumped from a Giant Rabbit that could turn people into carrots due to magic, to characters actually doing Ki stuff in a serious way and people dying due to that overpowered techniques (like Tao Pai Pai's arc).
Having said that, is it true that DB did popularized the genre worldwide afterwards (while the series that actually introduced the concept remained in obscurity overseas for very long until relatively recent years) and for that DB remains one of the most popular (if not the most popular) shonen series ever. And it deserves it. But being the most popular doesn't equal (and shouldn't be taken as) the origin or precursor of all. You must give credit to where credits due, IMHO, and when those series are the ones that helped shaped DB (and properly DBZ) into the phenomenon it became, you should at least recognize them for that. So you can say that DB influenced the giant wave of shonen series afterwards, but not put it on the same boat as HNK.
Sorry but um... what's HNK?
@@geschnitztekiste4111 HNK = "Hokuto No Ken" (Aka "Fist of the North Star").
Don't forget that there were some stands whose complexity is absurd such as Dragons Dream. They are rarely that bad, but still
