I don't know if anyone else pointed this out but might as well say it here. I remember the chase opening where after Yukako Yamagishi & Aya Tsuji scene it transition to two hands holding each other, the one slightly smaller then the other must've been a young Yoshikage Kira and the other one might as well belong to his mother since she raised him in an elderly age and the sleeve hint an old fashion. After the image changed into an Older Yoshikage Kira holding a severed hand (leaving the his mother status unknown). Then shows images of his father Yoshihiro Kira looking down while holding what looks to be the stand arrow but I believe he was actually holding a shovel. Looking down several times helping his one and only son hide his dark secret from the world by burying his early victims, the last picture on the bottom right shows him looking at his son trying to figure out what to do for him and that's getting him a stand. I want to think his father has the highest pride for his only son and will do anything for him but whats strange is Yoshikage Kira hardly cared or acknowledge his father's support and his second n'last departure. I do believe his parents played a huge role on Yoshikage Kira's mental illness. They're old, they've either tried their best to have a child in their early age but failed many times or they wanted to save enough money to have their own house to raise a child free from poverty and financially supported. (Hints Yoshikage Kira lives in his parents home) Some Japanese families give their single child a hard time growing up, having high expectations for them achieve success to live a happy life; and Kira's parents knew they weren't going to live long enough to see their son as a grown adult. So maybe his parents left out some key lessons in life and Yoshikage Kira had to make up his own decisions and grow to become the figure we all know him as.
I forgot which video I saw, but they claimed Araki was hinting that his mother abused Yoshikage, with his father just watching it happen. Therefore, when his mother died, his father stepped up to make up for the time he allowed his wife to abuse their son. Yet, the only thing Araki hinted at, was the age of his parents, being older than an average parent age. So I'm not sure completely.
@@tylerlackey1175 Yeah but just because he tried to justify it as such doesn't mean it's the case, especially since he's always been a complete loner it'd make complete sense for him to deny the slightest hint of actually feeling affection for a woman, who she is and not just her hands.

There's a part of the song Sheer Heart Attack that says "it was your DNA that made you this way", I wonder if Araki actually intended this to relate to Kira's background somehow... maybe his dad had APD, and his mom (who Araki said was overprotective of Kira) had OCD, and then both disorders passed on to Kira...
I actually found out that Kira's personality (or should we say mental state) goes along with what forensic psychiatrist Helen Morrison concluded in her research. She theorized that serial killers do not have personality at all, just different parts of it taken from different places that allows them to function. When they're put under pressure, that facade collapses and they become "vessels of obsessive compulsions" as she put it.
As someone who has confirmed pure-O OCD I’m happy you made that disclaimer because I’m definitely not violent and fears violated. Although my pure-O was more severe in the past and is now a lot less severe
I got goosebumps when you said “it often brings a friend, that can make it worse,” because that’s so true. I have chills from how that reminds me of my own mental illness.
Bites the dust is a pretty dang powerful ability. If Kira was smart he wouldn’t have revealed his hand too early. Being cocky is what got him found, and ironically not standing out is what got him killed.
You know, when I think about it. In part 8 Jojollion where the alternate Kira is part of the Joestar bloodline. He keeps the obsession of hands but doesn't murder women to take their hands that rot by time and takes and murders another one but instead he creates molds or perfect/almost perfect replicates of women hands You know if the original Kira did this then he finally achieved a peaceful and quiet life while he's going with his fetish using molded female hands.
As someone who has been professionally diagnosed with OCD, I have to say, I've always seen Kira as someone who exhibits a lot of the same symptoms as me. (I don't murder anyone though, lol.) but in terms of his strict daily routine, and how he gets antsy and disturbed when his compulsive tasks haven't been reached is really relatable. However, his violent and sexual urges are the only symptom that I don't personally have, though I don't doubt it is a symptom in more serious cases of OCD.
OCD was one of the first things that came to mind when Kira took the spotlight, especially when he told Shigechi his habits and other information before killing him.
There's actually an interview with Araki that mentions how he planned on including Kira's childhood, but since it was so dark he only left hints to it throughout the series! Namely, the family portrait was supposed to be a red flag that Kira's childhood was abnormal, and thus unhealthy. The backstory Araki planned to include involved Kira being abused by his mother, who was enabled by her husband. Thus after her husband died, Kira's father felt so much remorse for his failure to protect his son while he was alive, that he decided to do whatever it took to protect his son from beyond the grave.
I love how Ocean Man gives all those disclaimers before doing a psychological analysis of a fictional character while people like Shane Dawson don't give a shit and just theorize about real people being sociopaths.
Thank you SO much for explaining OCD in an educated and easy to understand way, it’s misconstrued so often. In addition to your description of ocd thoughts or obessions being violent/ sexual, those thoughts are repeated by anxiety, especially by people who don’t even want the thoughts. So if someone describes these symptoms, that doesn’t automatically make them actually attracted to it, (far from Kira’s case) but for the normal person with these ocd symptoms it is often really stressful and confusing for them. (I would know because I’ve dealt with ocd in my own life) So please show understanding towards people who suffer from this disorder.
Instead of OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorer), I think you should’ve said OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder). They are two different things. To be officially diagnosed with OCPD, you need 4 (or more) of the following: 1. Is preoccupied with details, rules, lists, order, organization, or schedules to the extent that the major point of the activity is lost 2. Shows perfectionism that interferes with task completion (e.g., is unable to complete a project because his or her own overly strict standards are not met) 3. Is excessively devoted to work and productivity to the exclusion of leisure activities and friendships (not accounted for by obvious economic necessity) 4. Is overconscientious, scrupulous, and inflexible about matters of morality, ethics, or values (not accounted for by cultural or religious identification) 5. Is unable to discard worn-out or worthless objects even when they have no sentimental value 6. Is reluctant to delegate tasks or to work with others unless they submit to exactly his or her way of doing things 7. Adopts a miserly spending style toward both self and others; money is viewed as something to be hoarded for future catastrophes 8. Shows significant rigidity and stubbornness I think Yoshikage Kira definately has at least 5 of these.
You can even see some aspects of Kira's OCD in his stand. Killer Queen was created out of the desire for Kira to live his peaceful life. When Killer Queen blows up a person they are erased with no trace of them being left behind, this can be seen as a person with OCD fixing the problems that may plague their meticulous routine. Even Sheer Heart Attack shows aspects of OCD. SHA will hunt down its target no matter what until its target is blown up. However it has a compulsion to first attack the hottest thing around it first before going back to its target. Similar to how a person who suffers from OCD might have to wash their hands after doing something before they can go to their next task.
i’m planning on majoring in psychology when i head to college in a few months, so this video was a really fun way to prepare my learning gears (after not learning anything for 3 months during quarantine). great video :-)
One fact that was practically canonized by araki is that Kira had an abusive mother, and his father did nothing about it,that is why the old man protected his son so much after his death, out of regret for not protecting him before,I don't know if it helps to explain why Kira is this way,but I hope it does
The thing you didn't notice is: His parents were old. It could mean that they died when he was still very young. I think that due to his parents death, Kira didn't had emotional support during his childhood. The fact he developed a fetish for women's hand could indicate a need for motherly contact.
My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
With the point about Kira's childhood, it's worth noting Araki went into more detail on it in the Jump Remix P4 Vol. 27 interview having him state that Kira's mother seems to have provided "abusive coddling" which could have affected his mental state. It's worth taking as canon information, considering Araki notes the only reason he didn't delve into Kira's backstory more was to avoid him becoming overly sympathetic.
Araki said somewhere once that Kira’s mother was abusive, and that his father didn’t do much to stop it. He felt guilty about that later on, hence the lengths he went to help Kira out by the time we meet him.

Just like One for all .. Right..
@@SinPandoaa what????????
I actually found out that Kira's personality (or should we say mental state) goes along with what forensic psychiatrist Helen Morrison concluded in her research. She theorized that serial killers do not have personality at all, just different parts of it taken from different places that allows them to function. When they're put under pressure, that facade collapses and they become "vessels of obsessive compulsions" as she put it.

It fit’s kira’s calming yet disturbing presence.
As someone who has confirmed pure-O OCD I’m happy you made that disclaimer because I’m definitely not violent and fears violated.
Although my pure-O was more severe in the past and is now a lot less severe
Your disclaimer was super well-made and I wanted you to receive praise for putting it in the video.
I got goosebumps when you said “it often brings a friend, that can make it worse,” because that’s so true. I have chills from how that reminds me of my own mental illness.
Fuck off
The fascination of Kira Never ends .. bastard is intriguing
Bites the dust is a pretty dang powerful ability. If Kira was smart he wouldn’t have revealed his hand too early. Being cocky is what got him found, and ironically not standing out is what got him killed.
“Some folks is just evil, ain’t no point in tryin to explain it.” - Arthur Morgan
You know, when I think about it. In part 8 Jojollion where the alternate Kira is part of the Joestar bloodline. He keeps the obsession of hands but doesn't murder women to take their hands that rot by time and takes and murders another one but instead he creates molds or perfect/almost perfect replicates of women hands
You know if the original Kira did this then he finally achieved a peaceful and quiet life while he's going with his fetish using molded female hands.
Oh man, he's just like me...
@@illseeyaonthedarksideofthemoon you're perfect.
I know for a FACT this dude did not just say “Joe’s Bizarre Adventure”
As someone who has OCD and Kira as their fav character, it makes me kinda happy to headcanon him having OCD as well
I mean, it was kinda obvious
I love how Ocean Man gives all those disclaimers before doing a psychological analysis of a fictional character while people like Shane Dawson don't give a shit and just theorize about real people being sociopaths.
Im sure that shane puts disclaimers too
Thank you SO much for explaining OCD in an educated and easy to understand way, it’s misconstrued so often.
Kira in fact is overall normal, but his obsession with hands ruins everything. lmao
You cant just blow everyone up and expect to get away with it!!
Kira: haha Shigechi go BOOOMM
Instead of OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorer), I think you should’ve said OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder). They are two different things. To be officially diagnosed with OCPD, you need 4 (or more) of the following:
1. Is preoccupied with details, rules, lists, order, organization, or schedules to the extent that the major point of the activity is lost
2. Shows perfectionism that interferes with task completion (e.g., is unable to complete a project because his or her own overly strict standards are not met)
3. Is excessively devoted to work and productivity to the exclusion of leisure activities and friendships (not accounted for by obvious economic necessity)
4. Is overconscientious, scrupulous, and inflexible about matters of morality, ethics, or values (not accounted for by cultural or religious identification)
5. Is unable to discard worn-out or worthless objects even when they have no sentimental value
6. Is reluctant to delegate tasks or to work with others unless they submit to exactly his or her way of doing things
7. Adopts a miserly spending style toward both self and others; money is viewed as something to be hoarded for future catastrophes
8. Shows significant rigidity and stubbornness
I think Yoshikage Kira definately has at least 5 of these.
Well shit because I have most of these things

Oceaniz making a video on my favourite Jojo villain. Best day ever.
12:52 I thought Yoshihiro wanted his son to just live his life and support him, and that that would go beyond anything.
One fact that was practically canonized by araki is that Kira had an abusive mother, and his father did nothing about it,that is why the old man protected his son so much after his death, out of regret for not protecting him before,I don't know if it helps to explain why Kira is this way,but I hope it does
As someone who suffers from OCD I understand now why I love Kira so much and why I Relate to him

The thing you didn't notice is: His parents were old. It could mean that they died when he was still very young. I think that due to his parents death, Kira didn't had emotional support during his childhood. The fact he developed a fetish for women's hand could indicate a need for motherly contact.
@Red Eagle Yes, but not his mother. The absence of a mother in a child life can be very harmful to the kid.
