Way too expensive for what 4gen advocates like TrdJon, Robmotive, and others are trying to promote, sell, and argue. 😳

Same as the Tundra. Also agree with earlier comments...$20k too expensive. Almost as much as my stock 1794 Edition Tundra!
Hybrid really doesn’t work on highway it’s meant for city stop and go traffic. That’s were you will see better gas mileage so combined with highway probably 23mpg
Please do an mpg test for the Colorado ZR2 Bison!!! If that thing gets 18 mpg on 35s, this Tacoma has some tough competition to beat 😅. I 100% bet putting 35s on this Tacoma will bring mpg to 15-16 before adding bumpers, armor, etc. I'm still bewildered by the price tag. $67K? Geez....Makes the Colorado ZR2 Bison at $63K a much better deal as it comes with 35s, fully armored, and has a full warranty from the factory.
My 2021 MANUAL TRD PRO with a decked system and GFC averages 21 mpg on the highway when doing the same test as in this video. The key is that I don't drive over 65 mph and I get into 6th gear.
My 23’ pro 4x is averaging 18.3 with the v6 and 80% of my driving being side roads, stop and go, 40-50mph tops. Very little highway, I’d imagine it would be better than 19mpg if I had more highway driving. I also have bigger/heavier tires than stock, so I’m surprised to see the turbocharged 4cyl didn’t do much better than my v6.
My Stock brand new 2013 Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD, got 21 out of the box before I lifted it and used bigger tires with the 4.0, is the hybrid an improvement, NOPE, part of the problem, is the HYBRID weighs 1200 pounds more, 2 more cylinders in an engine is much better for fuel economy, but the GOV has the auto industry scared of emissions, but overall emissions are probably similar.
I think the TRD PRO looks a lot better (subjective) but apart from that the ranger raptor straight up dominates this truck in every category and it’s cheaper lol.
Here’s what I’m thinking, TRD off-road with non hybrid engine. Add some bigger tires for looks and maybe put a tune on the engine down the road for more power.
It shouldn't be one or the other. In fact, the definition of "Efficient" means to achieve maximum productivity or output with minimal waste. With a good hybrid system, they should be able to increase power while also gaining fuel economy and improving overall efficiency. In the Taco's case, its IFM hybrid is just not that efficient. Same is true for the Tundra's Hybrid system. That's odd because Toyota's other hybrid systems are great at improving fuel economy and increasing power at the same time.
Since it should be electronically operated, you should be able to program it to whatever you need. For fuel economy, ideally it would help you get up to speed/acceleration since that is where most of the MPG suffers around town. For highway driving the Hybrid system would need to be a little more nuanced to help MPG, such as assisting when going up grade. If all you were looking for is a more powerful tacoma, it might be cheaper to buy 3rd gen taco and do an engine swap with tundra (V35A-FTS twin-turbo V6), you'd probably achieve better gas mileage than the 4th gen hybrid tacos as well.
Wow, 20 mpg with a 4 banger is nothing to write home about. With all the available technology today, that truck should be getting 28 easy. It's a 4 banger for crying out loud. Heck, I get 17-19 in my 2019 Tundra TRD PRO on the Hwy.

That amount of power and economy would be acceptable if the TRD Pro was 20k cheaper to buy.

They should have made the tank bigger. And the whole truck less expensive.
Just wish Toyota put a bigger tank on it. At least the same size as the last gen.
Mine has only gotten 20.2 mpg highway. Ever
Not only is the exterior/interior ugly, the mpg is horrible and price tag insane. My 02 with 285 K can still get 21-22mpg highway.
At 50mph with small wheels with half the power.
@@Eugen-E 70mph KO2 and zero payments for 20 years. You people will be paying on this turbo longer than it lasts.
@@schadlarry 2002 Tacoma is a joke, is a lot smaller, smaller wheels, less weight/power, etc. Turbocharged engine doesn't necessarily mean less reliability. There are a lot of examples where turbo engine is more reliable than some NA engines.
@@Eugen-E You have zero examples the new motor is more reliable than the 5VZ-FE. Smaller means no pinstriping when you go to the mall. I have enough power to get up mountain roads, on and off. I've yet to break a front axle unlike TFL spinning on some ice. I'll just jb weld my ipad to the dash and pretend my 02 is a 24, but of course still won't have the made in mexico quality.
@@schadlarry 🤣🤣 there are a lot of examples where turbocharged are more reliable than NA. If you don't know that doesn't mean they don't exist.
The Tacoma pro will sell for sure !!
😂😂
😂😂 good one
They’re not selling. A whole bunch of them are just sitting in dealer lots. Sad times
@@jed23ify they haven't even rolled off of the assembly lines yet lol
@@andrewfrankart2684 dude, they’ve been on dealer lots.
My GMC Sierra 2500 HD Duramax diesel gets 23-25 mpg on the highway at 70mph
What a joke that new hybrid powertrain is, just buy the non hybrid Taco if that’s what you want.
Either with or without the Iforce max option putting a 4-cylinder turbo engine in a slightly bigger Tacoma, as opposed to the previous gen, is not a good call on Toyota’s R &D department. Way too expensive for what 4gen advocates like TrdJon, Robmotive, and others are trying to promote, sell, and argue. 😳
Toyota lost the plot
Horrible. A turbo 4 cylinder hybrid getting 19mpg
The iForceMax "hybrid" isn't an efficiency hybrid its a power hybrid...giving you in-line hybrid assistance for HP and Torque w/o compromising efficiency (same MPG with higher HP/Torque??).
Wow... my 2023 V6 4x4 Tacoma does better than that on the hwy..lol
Ranger raptor tfl test it got almost 19mpg lol
I think the TRD PRO looks a lot better (subjective) but apart from that the ranger raptor straight up dominates this truck in every category and it’s cheaper lol.
Here’s what I’m thinking, TRD off-road with non hybrid engine. Add some bigger tires for looks and maybe put a tune on the engine down the road for more power.
Premium or Regular fuel grade?
Regular
Does it require premium or will 87 octane work?
87 octane is all that's required.
My 3rd gen v6 gets that mpg. Glad i kept mine and 0 monthly payments doesn't hurt either.
My silverado 5.3 L. Z71 4 door. 23 mpg on hwy😂 sorry for the 4 cylinders hybrid what is issue with the power train
The limited hybrid model will get better mileage. This is the off-road version.
I believe that’s not taking in consideration the 3 gallons of reserve so it’s more like 300 miles
The slower you go the better mileage you get. 55 vs 65. 65 vs 75. The draw back is it takes longer to get there. No matter the year. Drive slower.
So I would imagine it would be around 10% better after break in.
I’d love to see these numbers with a load on them aka weight. Whether people or in the bed and then compare that to the old 6.
Isn't this hybrid system designed for power, Not fuel economy?
Yes.
People don’t seem to understand that concept, the moment they hear hybrid , they think gas efficient. Smh
Yes this is exactly what this specific hybrid system was designed for. Most people are thinking it’s suppose to help fuel economy 😂
My 23 Nissan Titan Pro-4x was getting 23 mpg on the hwy stock. I've done a few mods and now I'm getting 28 mpg on the hwy!!
What did you do? Put summer tires?
That's a lie
@@Traumatree
Intake, throttle body, headers with header cooling wrap, bigger exhaust cam gear, exhaust, diablo sports tune, 92 octane tune.
@@jedeckert8912
Nope.
That's amazing news!
And that's with twice as many cylinders to boot.
Wow, 20 mpg with a 4 banger is nothing to write home about. With all the available technology today, that truck should be getting 28 easy. It's a 4 banger for crying out loud. Heck, I get 17-19 in my 2019 Tundra TRD PRO on the Hwy.
hahaha Toyota, you silly goose! My current 2021 Tacoma will be my last Toyota.
$3000 to add hybrid.. VERY tempting.
the hybrid actually gets one MPG LESS.....because of the added weight of the battery.
It's interesting cuz TFL achieved over 24 mpg on their "blueberry" 24 non hybrid Taco.
Hmmmm....
Different tires and the OR is lighter than the TRD Pro, but I also think that TFL is doing a lot of sucking up to Toyota
Wish they would have had a 21 gallon tank
Too expensive. No thanks.
Which mode did you have the truck set in for the test? I'd like to know what this exact test would be in ECO mode
It was in ECO
What app do you use for mph
