    I have a 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro and have a few questions for you...
    1) Is this a direct injection motor?
    2) Because the battery replaces the storage, where do you keep the items normally stored there?
    3) What's the maintenance schedule for this version?
    4) Is Premium gas required?
    People think the MTM is used for rock crawling, but in reality it's great for every day driving... it automatically activates at low MPH and is great for stop signs, parking lots and any time you need to see in the front of the truck.

    I can’t believe the 4th gen is so expensive. From jump, I intended on keeping my 3rd for a very long time, but I think I’ll be sticking with it a fair bit longer. If I get fomo, I’ll buy some wheels, boost it with a Maggy kit, and call it a day.
    My 3rd gen is my first truck and it does everything I’ve needed it to. 95k and counting on my 17’ DCSB

    When it comes to new models, aftermarket products are always my first concerns. The amount of aftermarket products I have on my 22 Taco makes it impossible for me to move to a 24 for a few years. Almost 3/4 of the items I use are not available yet. I also like to let the bugs get worked out for the first few years. I live just above sea level, and I have a supercharger on my truck, so power is not a concern.

    11:43 I haven't driven the Tacoma Hybrid but I've lived with the non-hybrid 4th gen for a month now, and it has all the power I need. I think I mentioned it before, I don't have a problem with the power.
    And I am not easy to please when it comes to power. I dunno if I would get the hybrid now, coz I can't justify losing the underseat storage space, although to be honest it's a little disappointing that they have humps and stuff with limit the amount of storage back there.
    I'll follow your build, like that really means anything I always follow your builds but this time it's personal! I'm gonna be following your build as kind of a blueprint for what is possible with mine .. And who knows maybe I'll get a hybrid later.

  • @j.b.708
    @j.b.708 3 месяца назад

    please keep in mind you don't get MORE power by adding a hybrid system to any given engine. you are simply generating energy ahead of time and using it perhaps when you need it later. there's energy on reserve for a boost, but the total energy in and out is about the same minus conversion loss. yeah, you get a little power from regenerative breaking, but it's not as much power as you used getting the truck moving.

    • @nickhoffman1743
      @nickhoffman1743 3 месяца назад

      So Toyota gave us 2 options with this new drivetrain. Straight gas Iforce with 276hp OR the hybrid system which essentially integrates the hybrid tech to work with the gas engine. Part of that hybrid system includes an electric motor that produces 48 hp which means total hp on the Iforce Max hybrid setup is advertised as 324 HP....but a hybrid DOESNT add more power? Explain this

    • @j.b.708
      @j.b.708 3 месяца назад

      @@nickhoffman1743 In this house, we obey the laws of thermodynamics! That power came from somewhere, it came from the gas engine. The gas engine worked harder when you didn't ask it to, to bank power in the battery that the electric motor could draw upon to generate "more power." But that's not really more, it's just power you already generated earlier in the timeline. You didn't magically get more power for free, in fact you lost total power in the end due to multiple conversion losses and even storage loss. And once the battery is empty, there will be NO more electrical boost available until your gas motor replenishes the battery. While the gas motor is replenishing the battery, less power will be available to propel the vehicle. Oh... and the extra mass of the hybrid components makes the hybrid vehicle heavier. Look, I totally get that having an extra 30-40 HP now and then might be nice, but you don't get it after you spent it until you replace it and you didn't get it at no cost. A turbo adds horsepower, a hybrid system does not (for any given gas engine, all other things being equal).

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  2 месяца назад +1

      I think you mean that you don't get FREE power, which obviously nobody disagrees with. The gas engine plus electric motor certainly produce and provide MORE power, as is shown by HP and TQ numbers. The battery system which stores that extra power does generate a good bit for free, via regenerative braking, and the rest it siphons from the gas motor, which is definitely not free.

    • @j.b.708
      @j.b.708 2 месяца назад

      @@LastLineOfDefense Holy cow dude. The energy you recouped in breaking is less than the energy required to get up to speed in the first place. Those HP and TQ numbers are ONLY valid as long as the battery is charged. The energy to create that charge was taken FROM the engine at the expense of HP that would be used to propel the vehicle. The hybrid system allows you to temporarily bank a little horse power ahead of time. And I get that might be nice in many cases, but it's not "MORE" power. The total power is the same minus conversion losses and loss to a heavier vehicle.

    Skimping on features also happening with Lexus. The nx350 Fsport my wife was looking at that’s more expensive than the premium has no cooled seats, 360 cam, no memory seats, no parking sensors? Like really? they package everything so expensive and you will have no other option but to pay extra 5-10k over because they’ve stripped out all options.

    21:55 I dunno about the 2022 Tundra and 2024 Tundra but the Tacoma with the power tailgate and the buttons. I don't like the way they do the tailgate level it's kinda like the fake handle on the passenger side .. Your hand doesn't actually go all the way into the handle, there's a big rubber button on the inside of the handle that your hand just pushes..
    I wish it was more just like a regular tailgate handle that you could open manually as well as use the buttons. That kind of makes me not want that feature. but I've never lived with it though, just played with it on the lot.

    Congrats! Will it be at Expo Mtn West? I’m still content with my 2018 TRD-OR, but can see getting a 4th Gen in a couple years. I think they pretty much nailed everything except the pricing structure, and shrinking the fuel tank size👎🏼. I think I would go for the base powertrain which is still a big leap from the 3rd gen, I really need that under seat storage since my truck is a daily driver.
