When I talk about the Splatlands, I meant to say Inkadia, not the Splatlands Also another point against the "game set in winning time PERIOD" argument is that if Past wins then Octolings would have to be retconned and that would be messy...
They wouldn't necessarily have to be retconned, we know Octolings like Shiver never served under Octavio so that means that not every Octoling were trapped underground with the Octarians.
team past. the city is based on rural/traditional japan. team present, the city has the same kinds of themings that the first 3 have had. team future, the city has a very modern technological feel like tokyo or smthn
They can’t make us go back in time without retconning Octolings and they wouldn’t get rid of them. And one person in the server stated they chose Present to get more of Deep Cut, but the losing teams often are given the DLCs, so I don’t think people should worry about losing lore on characters because they’re either going to move on to a completely new saga as suggested in one of your previous videos or be relegated elsewhere. I choose Past because after Side Order, I don’t want to see more futuristic aesthetics and despite my dwindling trust in Nintendo, I still trust them to give us a good game regardless (and for the sad hope they’ll return to older stage styles).
They absolutely could. As we’ve learned SINCE Splatoon 3 not ALL octolings were run underground after the great turf war. Shiver specifically is one of them. A game set in the past surrounding the great turf war could simply take place in a city like Splatsville and the seperate story *could* be about the great turf war. Perhaps each species could even show you different perspectives. There’s a lot of “this definitely will/wont happen” and honestly none of us really have any idea how they will implement the theme. The fact everyone is assuming it can’t affect the story mode given that we FINISHED the original saga is kind of wild to me. They could make the story mode literally whatever they want now
@@buriedinbooks881 It still wouldn’t make much sense. Even then Octolings working would rely on the few that were on good terms at the time and lock the setting to certain locations or move somewhere isolated from the war to make it add up; so making the story about the war wouldn’t be easy as we already know how it goes. All you’d be able to do is watch the Octarians fail unless Nintendo retcons it. It’s *possible* they could travel back in time but when Chaos won the Splatfest, all that seemed to affect was the setting and personalities of the idols. The world wasn’t thrust into Chaos. It’s unlikely they’ll do anything over the top, so the message is just to lower your expectations. What can Nintendo accomplish without making things too complicated? They *could* completely move locations but at one point people thought Chaos winning would result in a chaotic dystopia. And we can’t even know what this Splatfest means. The way I see it, since it asks “what is most important to you?”, they seem to be asking whether you value your past, focus on the present, or look to the future. They’re not asking which in theory you like most. More likely I think the story will resolve around a character’s values on that. The story of Side Order was about Smollusk going over the top due to his strong belief in Order. I think people will be more satisfied with the final product and have a better chance of having more accurate predictions and expectations if they consider that.
@@Moo-a-gains Hmm... What if they didn't change time periods, but did change locations to a place that *feels* more like the past? All three games have taken place in what feel like very modern urban areas, but maybe they could focus on a place with more traditional japanese architecture as part of the city, maybe inspired by like Kyoto, rather than Tokyo? It's still a huge city, but it's known for having lots of traditional architecture mixed into its streets. Maybe it could be set in Calamari County even? I don't know, there's probably some interesting ideas they could do without literally setting it in the past.
I went for past because if its just aesthetics then i would like see a traditional japanese island or area. And if its actually time travel then LOOOOOORE
Okay.. if Splatoon 4’s theme does depend on the winner of this splatfest.. ONLY IF WE CANNOT LET PRESENT WIN. We had people saying Splatoon 3 was just a Splatoon 2 Remake or something among those lines, what good would having the same thing do..

@@meptune0335I mean, the thing I want for the game did impact my choice a little, but only since I legitimately can't decide otherwise, all three have good arguments. I ended up going with Past, but honestly I'll be excited for the next game no matter who wins.
For the past thing, maybe the turf wars and other modes ARE the great turf war. Like they call it something slightly different thing and pretend that you’re participating in smaller battles in the war. For future, I agree it might be more just like the aesthetic
There was a data mine of a project called: "spire" or "spiral" (I don't remember) and I have a theory for the grand final fest: It's what we might want in the new system: If past win: it would be a separate game that won't follow the regular Splatoon games, but it's a different genre experiencing some past event, like the Last salmonoid migration, the human extinction or the great turf war with cut scenes (Count...)
If present wins: Splatoon 3 deluxe or plus (whatever) If future wins: a chaos and futuristic themed Splatoon 4 that follows project spiral accurately And once again, let me remind you it's a theory, I can't wait for Nintendo to debunk it so hard
Past: Alternate timeline of the great turf war. You create an inkling and octoling character and switch between them at different times during the story. The end results in peace between both sides, and no one is sealed underground. Present: similar times to the current trilogy, maybe the game is set outside of Inkadia, maybe even go back there at some point. Future: nothing. Because future has 0 chance of winning. Also, the amiibos still better be useable in the next games, otherwise my collection becomes almost pointless.
Everybody forgetting one thing about the past in splatoon. The sea levels were way higher. thats why there were turf wars in the first place right? Anyways, i just want splatoon on a boat. With pirates. And sea mosters. The usual stuff. Ofc i want lore, and background info and stuff, but i doubt we would get any more or less of it if team past wins. I mostly just want high seas splatoon. (Which is still unlikely all things considered)
I swear this fest is making me lose my mind. Thinking of how each team would affect the next game just feels so crazy because I KNOW that the devs are preping a title for switch 2 and we definitely have some clue of what theey might do. Past would probably give us an insight to the time BEFORE the great turf war when both inklings and octolings were friends like a spin off game Present means s3 might get a chance at more content updates Future means we just get s4 But also this might be an idol fest as well which means if people choose the theme related to that idol, they are gonna have some impact on the next game which mean DEEP CUT WONT GET MORE SCREENTIME IF I DONT CHOOSE FUTURE AUGHHHH
to be fair the question is a little different which may impact the message of the next game anyway. i don't think it's gonna follow either the time period or theme at all. splat 1's question was who's the best idol and splat 2's question was what world would you live in. this is what is most important to you. i think it's going to impact the message more than anything. also, i think seeing the next game being related to the inkling and octoling war is a bit of a stretch cause they did confirm splat 3 was the end to that whole arc and are implying there is more involved with grizzco and who's running that now that mr grizz is defeated. it could have something to do with that and the salmonoids since we still don't know all that much about them even with the sunken scrolls.
@@Fryethusiast better be a real thing, apparently he reckoned that he planned the story lines out till bayonetta 9. Have a feeling that probably won’t be the case now lol
@rhysduross Yeah I've been curious how the series will continue with him gone now. I really hope it's not the end and I also want more Origins type games
I had the thought that maybe the themes could have something to do with spin-offs. Like if past won we got a spin-off set in the past, future gets us one set in the future, and present just gets us splatoon 4 (with a spin-off coming later). Though realistically, I can't see Nintendo ever leaving a decision that big up to chance even if the plan was to eventually do all 3, so I dunno. If it is just going to be the theming of the next game, then that's kinda lame cause we've already seen how "chaotic" Splatoon 3 is, lol. Genuinely as someone who was on Team Order, I feel like Chaos got the short end of the stick.
“I don’t think the next game is going to be based” woah, we don’t know anything about Splatoon 4 and you’re already hating on it. Seriously though, I think the outcome of the grand/final fest will factor into the next game, but not in an obvious “we’re going to the great turf war or time travel to the future” way. Something a bit more subtle and clever;
