I loved this monthly recap. I'm sorry that Buffy has been a slow burn for you but I do hope you can get into it since I really love that show. Though I remember it took me a bit to get into the show at first as well so I can understand your feelings on it. I also need to rewatch Sky High again. I actually remember loving that movie when I was young. But also got some new movie recommendations as I always get from your monthly recap. So thanks so much for that and for these always amazing monthly recap Kylie!
I'm so excited that you're watching Buffy! Not to worry though, season 1's only 12 episodes, it's the shortest of the series- once you power through that first season, things get really, really good

I love giallo movies. So much style, so many twists and turns. I got obsessed a couple years ago & have seen about 30 now...and even the bad ones are pretty good ones

Ok, I feel your pain about youtube horror shorts. I watch a lot of them and there are some great ones hiding among the refuse. ALTER is a great resource for horror shorts on youtube. It's a great yt channel. Some of there older videos have the dumb jumpscare face but most of their newer videos tend to be way better. They have an older sci-fi horror short called I MOM that's pretty neat. There's also a video with Anna Sophia Robb that's amazing called Goodnight Darling. She's on the thumbnail too. In the short Anna's mom is acting weird and her brother is freaking out in his room. The ending is so freaking creepy. But one of the best horror shorts ever is on the Short of the Week channel it's called Curve. It's about a woman on this weird curving surface overlooking a bottomless pit and she's trying to figure out how too escape. Absolutely terrifying. You feel like your on the curve with her! I think it's a masterpiece. A must watch!

I was born in 1989 and grew up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when it was new in MTV in early 2000s. Back then my fav. movies were Scary Movie 1 & 2, which I saw on VHS, remember those casette tapes? I also remember seen fun horror movie called Hollow Man in early 2000s.
Oh, I'm surprised you didn't love The Frighteners that much. Oh well, who knows. Maybe one day it will grow on you. I finally watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I enjoyed them. I still prefer Peter Jackson's horror films such as Braindead, Frighteners etc.

Don't finish Buffy! Your instincts are correct. If a show takes a full season to get good, it's just not good. A big fan told me the same thing, i borrowed the seasons from them, i finished the first 2 and was still waiting for the show to get good. The Best Buffy thing is the Movie, it rules, that's all that's needed.

Please don’t give up on Buffy!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I swear it gets better, and there are only 12 episodes in season one because it was a mid-season replacement.
This is why I don’t really like to recommend Buffy to people despite it being one of my favourite things ever ❤ I watched it in the early noughties when it was still coming out, but I worry it will look very cheesy and dated to new viewers 😕 I would say that yes, it is worth going back to because the first season is much lower budget, the actors haven't fully grabbed hold of their characters yet, and its generally quite cheesy. Season two is much better and beloved by fans, if you're not won over by season 2, then yeah, it's just not for you. I'm a huge Buffy nerd, and although I want everyone to love it as much as I do, I know that's not possible 😛
I loved MI: Dead Reckoning.
The way it used a real world topic for the plot was great timing and felt fresh to the series.
No disrespect to Tom Cruise but Haley Atwell outshined him in this one.
Id like to see her take over the lead in the M.I. franchise when Tom Cruise decides to retire from the series.

Also, i agree, Buffy tak3s a bit to get into & isn't great until you get the character Spike as a regular. I saw it after the fact in my 20s too as a recommend & it took some time.
I always enjoy your monthly recaps. I get a few titles to add to my want list, plus some to avoid. Still if I have the time I like to catch some of the ones you don’t like. Not really to compare, but I think of it as someone made this movie. Where did they go wrong and why. 🤔🙂
There’s a huge twist half way in Season Two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that proves what a great show it truly is. Both SMG and David Boreanaz really step up real big in their acting in that moment and it only gets better from then on.
Season 2 is my fav.

Wait girlie pops, season 1 of Buffy is only 12 episodes, especially if you're on episode 5, by season 3 it gets chaotic and fun. Please continue Buffy because it's so good. 😂

I love Sky High too, it’s one of my favorite childhood movies. I’ve watched it baked a couple times myself, definitely enhances the entertainment value! And I fucking adore Coraline, I can watch it every night. Dakota Fanning deserves to be in more stuff, that woman is one of the most charismatic voice actresses working today in my opinion, and she and Keith David have great chemistry. Not to mention, the Other Mother is a great horror villain. She’s a multidimensional monster like Slender Man, but she’s mostly a predator like Pennywise. And I’d like to see a plot breakdown of the Slender Man movie. I’m a huge fan of the Slender Man mythos, and when I heard about how awful it was, I just felt like screaming Chucky style profanities, haha.
I really enjoy the Frighteners. I watch it every couple of Halloweens. One of the great horror comedies with a spectacular cast -- Michael J. Fox, John Astin (the original Gomez Addams), Jeffrey Combs (the Re-Animater, also a great horror comedy), Dee Wallace (such a great horror and non-horror career), Jake Busey, etc. The murderous entity in this movie is clearly a test run for the Ringwraiths from the Lord of the Rings, which clearly inspired the look of the Dementors in Prisoner of Azkaban.
2:20 Kylie, if you watch only one episode of the 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' TV series, I highly recommend the episode 'Hush' about a pair of floating, spooky-looking ghouls known as 'The Gentlemen' robbing people of their voices before killing them by cutting out their hearts. It's really, really great and disturbing. :)

Great recap! There really is something unique about Folk Horror where films often improve with subsequent viewings, even when they were great upon first watch. I have run into that with a few films across all subgenres, but none more so than Folk Horror.

There are only 12 episodes in season one of Buffy The Vampire Slayer it was a mid season replacement. The season finale is badass. But I say push forward it's definitely worth it in the future seasons.
Buffy the vampire slayer is similar to Hercules & Xena, it's a rough start but it picks up. but i prefer Hercules/Xena because it's made by Sam Raimi/Rob Tapert, it's very Army of Darkness in tone,Plus the Bruce Campbell episodes are great.

Please don't give up on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I almost gave up on it at first (I wasn't completely sold by the first few episodes) and then I kept going. By mid season 2 it became one of my favorites. After seeing several seasons, I went back and re-watched season one and enjoyed it SO much more - because of knowing the characters well. It is worth revisiting.

Recently I've begun to explore the giallo genre (along with some unknown slasher movies). Yesterday I watched "Torso" from 1973, directed by Sergio Martino, the same person that directed The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh and I can definitely recommend this one! If you want something with more gore, then watch a Spanish giallo: Pieces from 1982. It's not one of those movies that are only based on some dull, exaggerated gore. This one has some style. When it comes to the "trashy shark movies" subgenre, I've watched every one of the films you had mentioned here. There's still at least one you might wanna see: Bait from 2012. It's an Australian movie about a people who got trapped at a supermarket during a tsunami. It's nothing great, but it might be better than some of the shark movies you've seen (better than the Shark Bait). There's also 47 Meters Down, which you've probably already watched, and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged. Not exactly a shark film, but The Deep House from 2021 might also interest you (a horror movie taking place underwater).

Kyle Gallner is one of those actors that put a smile on your face when he pops up. He is definitely one of the very few people I'd be starstruck by.

My ears are bleeding. Buffy is my fav. Thing to ever exist. Season 1 is only 12 episodes. And Angel has his own episode in it. Season 2 & 4 are my favs. I think you'll like season 3 the most. Anyways. Hopefully you keep watching. It is a magical show. ❤

Sky High is a masterpiece it's one of the best superhero movies ever made it's up there with The Lego Batman Movie it's way better than the MCU and DCEU those are mediocre anyway in my opinion we need more superhero films like Sky High and The Lego Batman Movie maybe the superhero genre would be interesting again Batman and Spider-Man can't carry it forever
