TY for recommending "Dead Silence". It brings back memories of The Twilight Zone episode, "The Dummy", and from The Tales from the Crypt episode, "The Ventriloquist's Dummy". I can't believe I've never seen this before.
Perfume has been a top favorite for quite some time. I’m glad to hear you also enjoyed it. I try not to compare it to the book and enjoy it as a stand alone thing. So many well known actors! I’m surprised how underrated it is.
I always enjoy your wrap-up videos, thanks! I´m too a big fan of Yorgos Lanthimos. My favorite film of his is The Lobster. Such a fun, weird and disturbing story. I´m really looking forward to seeing Poor things.
Sanctuary was such a pleasant surprise. Thank you for recommending it. You always find those non-horror hidden gems like that TV show Unreal. It's stuff I might not usually watch, but with your recommendation, I do and end up loving it. 🤘
Thanks for the tip on Sanctuary Emma. I've been following Margaret Qualley's career, and this sounds excellent. I'm largely off of streaming services now (except during Octobers), but they did release a DVD of it (no Blu-ray) and it's on its way.
Hi! Have you seen Dark Windows? It was released August 18th, and there is only one review on IMDB, very accurate: "Dark Windows" was a one of the great low-budget surprises that show up once in a while if you're a genre fan. Given the familiar storyline, I was just sort of hoping it would be serviceable but it was so much more that that. It lets its secrets unfold slowly and organically, and plays very cleverly on our expectations. It knows what we are expecting and then delivers something different. Technically, it's great -- well lit and clear sound. We spend most of the film with just our main three characters and the acting is uniformly excellent among all of them. And it nailed the ending, playing out in a way that was totally unexpected to me and was far nastier and harsher than I anticipated."
The Ghost Stories play is one of the best things I've ever seen. It is so cleverly done and I couldn't sleep that night the first time I saw it 😂. The UK tour was cancelled due to covid in 2020, I just hope it tours further afield one day!
Also, Patrick Süskind's original novel of Perfume is mind blowing - a real page turner. When I heard they were making it into a film I was apprehensive because I did not think they would do the climax justice... but indeed 🤭...
21:08 "The Pope's Exorcism" - now there is a concept for a movie. Can just picture some actor portraying the Pope and delivering some of Regan's lines from the '73 film.
it's so interesting to hear your comments on Elba and his American accent (I haven't seen bastille day)! Have you watched the Wire? His American accent is really good in that and lots of folks say they had no idea he is English after watching the Wire! thanks for another great upload :)
Watching Sanctuary in a small cinema made it feel a touch more personal. Really enjoyed the characters and their mind games. Pity though that I could hear another film in an adjoining cinema during the quieter moments, which broke my concentration at times.
I’ve missed a couple of your videos, it’s funny that you recommended a Tucci movie on American Tubi. People like to hate in Tubi, but they have a couple horror gems that they rotate.
Richard attenborough, nice! He did real well in jurassic park. That Sunday movie (can't remember the full name), the ending seems so cheap to me, I doubt I'd be impressed even without being spoiled.
I love the Blair witch project so much, it such a go to comfort movie for when the spooky months start! If anyone knows anything that gives off a similar vibe. Please let me know!

didn't actually expect to hear about tmnt here even just in passing but after finally having gotten myself to binge rise over the weekend maybe this is the last little push i needed to go watch mutant mayhem :)
I just watched a Shudder Exclusive Dark and The Wicked normally I don't love these possession movies. But this one I loved I wondered if you saw this one Emma?
I really enjoyed Some Velvet Morning, I checked it out after your previous video, thanks for the recomendation. That end was not what I expected at all, I was expecting something completely different. But I wasn't disappointed, it paid off.
Thanks for these videos. They help me sift the wheat from the chaff. I meant to mention a disturbing film you might enjoy adding to your disturbing films list. As well as The Cement Garden, another Ian MacEwan book was adapted to film earlier with The Comfort Of Strangers (1990). It stars Christopher Walken, Helen Mirren, Rupert Everett and Natasha Richardson. I swear it's a trip...
I love these videos. I open my Letterbox'd and follow along :) So I had to say, I enjoyed Demeter too - I also expected not too much I think - just your basic cat and mouse with a vampire in one location because what else could it be? I have a little bit of a nit pick about how I wanted the ending to go, but basically I liked it and SPOILER... ... ... ... ... ... ... I was actually really impressed the killed the kid and then for a minute I thought - oh no, they are going to back away from it, he's not dead, but then of course, turning into a vampire, they went for it. I can't decide which would have been more impactful. I also watched Cobweb just a week or two later and thought - hey, this kid is pretty good! :)
Have you watched "Godless: the eastfield exorcism?" Please if you watch this movie give us an explanation because this movie is not available in my region.
I remember watching Alps a long time ago. The concept was interesting but the movie was too confusing. A much better Greek drama i highly recommend is Miracle of the Saragossa Sea with the same actress i think.
I wasn't crazy about Perfume. A oldie but goodie. My goodness - early 2000's? I know I was out of college when I saw it. For me, I believe at that time, I wasn't overly impressed- I'm sorry! I still think it should be highlighted on here

Some Velvet Morning was better than I expected. I can't stand Neil LaBute -- I detest him, not only as a filmmaker but as a person -- so I was fully expecting to hate it, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Magic is based on one segment from the 1945 anthology horror film Dead of Night. It's on Shudder at the moment and well worth a watch. I actually enjoyed Bad Things, maybe it was The Shining references or the queer horror aspects which gave me an affection for it. One film I really, really didn't like was The Blackening, which was the worst film I've seen in the cinema for years. It's boring, the characters are annoying and lacks both horror and comedy. Sadly, Voyage of the Demeter didn't make it to many UK cinemas due to some legal nonsense or other.
Velvet morning really isn't disturbing. I was pointing out the social ramifications consuming movies like that have on society and what it normalizes for your viewing pleasure. FYI: Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is an excellent novel. The ending has a "Stranger in a Strange Land" vibe.
I read the book first and ended up a little bit disappointed with the movie, for as long as it was, they cut out some good stuff!

Perfume is a masterpiece; the novel was considered un-filmable for a long time, but Tom Tykwer made a gorgeous adaption.

As soon as you asked "Have you ever watched a movie where everything that could go wrong goes wrong" and I immediately thought of Beau is Afraid heh.
