OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for reviewing Bramayugam (The age of madness) a Malayalam film (Malayalam is a language spoken in the Indian state of Kerala) I'm super happy that you enjoyed it. love from India❤
I haven’t watched too many new horror movies but here are some of the new things that I’ve watched this month -Harold and Maude -Red Rocket -Existenz -Little Women(1994) -Reality Bites -How to Make and American Quilt -Landscape in the Mist -The Bad Sleep Well -Raising Arizona -Waltz with Bashir -Lone Star -Thriller: A Cruel Picture(1973) -Cherry Falls -A Touch of Zen -Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure -The Zone of Interest
23:38 I just watched 'Butterfly Kisses' on your recommendation and I quite liked it. I'm a massive found footage fan like yourself, so I'm definitely the target audience. I liked the 'film-within-a-film' meta angle and I think there was some actual thought and intelligence that went into this. I liked the lure a lot and found a few moments to be pretty effective (especially a couple of scenes near the end). I could have done without the cheap jump scares (only 2 of them, thankfully) and the thing that's really difficult to do with this sort of thing is make it all seem completely 'natural' i.e some of the performances and it doesn't always QUITE do that. But definitely worth a watch, so cheers as always 🙂
Cant wait to see Zone of Interest. One of the first really transformative movies that I ever saw was The Garden of the Finzi-Continis. It exposed me to the idea that the evil of the Holocaust was so "unbelievable" that there were actually people who thought it could not possibly be happening. My heart really broke for the family who couldn't seem to see it coming.
So excited to see another faithful! Totally obsessed with the traitors. Australia and NZ are great seasons and Canada wrapped up late last year. Such a bingeable series and so cool to see so many peeps here lovin it
If you haven't seen it, I'd like to recommend "The Eternal Daughter" starring Tilda Swinton. It's a very unusual ghost story with a wonderfully atmospheric setting. The ending completely caught me off guard. Thanks again, Emma, for your all your recaps!
Thanks for the February recap, Emma. I am definitely intrigued about "Butterly Kisses", so that's on my watchlist now. I remember "Return To Oz" got a lot of bad press when it was released in 1985. I didn't see it until years later, but I was surprised how much I liked it. I was learning more about the Oz books at the time, so the darker elements were not so surprising to me. I will also admit that I love "The Village". I saw it when it came out and I thought it was one of the best love stories I had seen in years (don't know what that says about me). The first twist really caught me off guard, but then everything just falls into place. Here are a couple of highlights from my February viewings: DARIO ARGENTO: PANICO (2023) - score 8/10, great documentary on the Italian master. THE ZONE OF INTEREST (2023) - score 5/10, not a fun film to watch, though it had a Wes Anderson feel visually. LISA FRANKENSTEIN (2024) - score 7/10, good dark comedy, I enjoyed it more than I expected. BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE (2024) - score 6/10, found it informative about his life, since I only knew about his music. SKINAMARINK (2022) - score 4/10, I knew it would be experimental, but I still felt let down by the old trick of "the plot is none of your business".
Just watched Next Exit, was a bit slow, but I'm looking forward to Drive Away Dolls for some fun. Bramayugam peaks my interest because like you, I love me some folklore! Butterfly Kisses is my next rewatch after years! Thanks for what you do and for keeping my movie card full.
Em; you are one of the only YT creators that I have followed year in, year out since I first stumbled across you many moons ago (I think you'd only been going less than a year if memory serves?) and I just want to say in regards to your closing message, that you have COMPLETELY earned the position you have! You have consistently been a shining (and highly relatable/charismatic) light on the genre films that we all love so much and I am sure I speak for many of my fellow subs when I say that I couldn't be more happier for your success and long may it continue! So many countless good/great recommendations that I might not have heard of or chosen to see ('Cat Sick Blues' is one of my fave examples because I clearly must be a sick 'lil monkey too for liking it!) 😆 I will rock with you for as long as you continue to do this, you can be sure of that 😎🤘
@@spookyastronauts You are more than welcome, my lovely! ☺ And I'm still in agreement at 'The Exorcist: Believer' - The hate train is insane for that! 🤪
@@spookyastronauts I just remembered the first (or definitely one of the first) videos I ever came across of yours; it was one of those 'What I watched this month' ones and you were talking about one of the latter 'Hellraiser' sequels and you said the immortal words "....it was so fucking awful!" and I just fell about laughing! 😄 I hadn't heard you swear at that point and that just made me like you even more *heh heh! 😈
I recently got into The Traitors too, UK S2 was INCREDIBLE and the US version is great if you like any American reality TV shows like Big Brother or Survivor.
I'm just about to finish Succession, only have two episodes left! Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook had me bawling early in season four, they're both so good💜
Emma I went and watched butterfly kisses right after you recommended it because the description piqued my interest. It was fantastic! Thanks for the rec!
I just saw "Butterfly Kisses" and it certainly was a step above the typical found footage fare. The meta-angle was a new twist, though I wonder if the film was maybe too layered. Either way, I enjoyed it and I'd give it a score of 7/10.
I love the fact that you have just watched return to Oz, I saw it at the cinema when I was really young. Oddly back then we had mid film interludes with an ice cream lady who would come down the isle for ten mins before the film kicked back in 😂 those wheelers 😳🙈😂
Return to Oz is one of those movies that freaked me out as a kid and now I love but still freaks me out. After Nightmare Before Christmas came out I wondered if Jack Skellington was based on Jack the pumpkin. Tim Burton confirmed he was. Just some fun trivia ❤
I love The Village! one of my favs. re Zone of Interest, there is a behind the scenes thing on youtube that is quite good, showed how they set up the cameras to film, like there were no camera people in their faces, the cameras were hidden and the cast were acting to an almost empty room, It was very interesting!
I actually did some post production work on Midnight Meat Train! Wondering if you've ever seen Georgia with Jennifer Jason Lee? Really great performances.
I was not disappointed by 'The zone of interest', but it definitely was not as disturbing as expected. Fair, that's because I knew nothing about the movie except a German family living right next to a concentration camp, but still. The never ending soundscape of screaming and crying people and gunshots in the distance is haunting, though. The implications and the sheer comfort and forced ignorance of the characters in the foreground is what makes the movie stand out.
I also only recently watched Storm Warning, after I found out the script was written in the 80s by the dude that wrote Road Games and Razorback (And the kids tv show Ship to Shore!)
I LOVE David Farrier, I even pay for his Substack Webworm. I’ve been looking forward to watching Mister Organ since before it came out. A really great voice for investigative journalism when the industry continues to shrink day by day.
I watched a hidden gem from Brazil called Medusa which was very eerie in regards to the atmosphere of certain scenes. Also highly recommend the japanese film Retribution.
I love FF movies, but I had never heard of "Butterfly Kisses" until this month. You were the third "horror expert" to mention it. Strange coincidence. Good movie, silly title.
I love return to Oz. My cousin and l used to play a game we made up call Dorothy escapes the wheelers😅 the history of the dark disney movies is really interesting, watcher in the woods in one of my favourites
I really liked the seasoning house and thought it was a hidden gem, extremely disturbing. However very sad given that that actually happened but well made for sure. I was wondering if you had seen that one. Also yes, beware the wheelers:)
Last exit was so surpisingly good i hadnt heard of it till i watched it i watched it about a month or 2 ago and i only did cos of the cast I'm a huge iZombie and Dr Who fan so to have Liv Ravi and Amy all in one film i had too
I finally watched Huesera last night. I can't stop thinking about the brujeria scene near the end. Holy f*ck!! That's exactly what i want in a witchcraft movie

I really enjoyed Butterfly Kissed. and The Village.. i love it when it came out, i couldn't understand why people hated it, it's so good and well acted.
I was really young when I went to see it at the cinema but the reason I was disappointed was because it was marketed as a horror and it's more of a drama. I think I'd love it now! I just think the marketing let it down at the time
I remember watching The Seasoning House a few years ago. A few scenes were almost unbearable, but horror movies with a sensitive theme like sex trafficking is difficult to pull off.

Clive Barker's Books of Blood are great, but Midnight Meat Train was pretty weak. A better film adapted from those short stories is Dread.
