What makes Letterboxd great is that it's user-friendly. There are profiles which make profound reviews and there are where it's basically twitter shitpost. I love reading both.
Same thought here. Thé in depth reviews are great. The shitposting is just as great. There are some reviews that managed to combine both in depth and shithousery elements and these reviews are the best 😂
Agreed. I love reading both of them.
Nah
Letterboxd is basically the twitter equivalent of critic apps
This
That's why I stick to RUclips.
Wait, so letterboxed users think they're critics? They would have a better time calling themselves one-line stand up comedians, and even that they're bad at.
@@greyfox4838 So they're a joke?
Nah this is worse than Twitter lol.
Letterboxd made me realize everyone else's taste in media is horrible and bad except for mine.
Same here.
Maybe but what were your 4 favourite picks then?
Profound realization. I had that too and realized i have the best taste in movies and no one else comes close.
Letterboxed is 60% thirsty women, 35% edgy comments and 5% reviews ...

As a letterboxd user I can confirm I am a terrible person
Well, the first step is admitting it.
@@DarkLorddReviews And the second step is not changing it.
Looks like you hand slipped when rating Minions: The Rise of Gru, you didn't give it a 5 star. Just thought I'd let you know.
Not sure if the 5 star is a bit or not
Looks like you hand slipped when rating Minions: The Rise of Gru, you didn't give it a 1 star. Just thought I'd let you know.
There I fixed it
I watched Thor with my friend recently. It wasn’t a great movie but I had fun. I like to enjoy movies so I always like to look out for what I find fun or enjoyable about movies. My friend did not like the movie and then they went on Letterboxd and started reading everyone’s negative reviews. As they read the negative reviews, I saw them get angrier and feel worse and worse about the movie. It just made me sad. I feel like I can’t enjoy the movie anymore because Letterboxd caused my friend to murder my parents and then get sentenced to life in prison.
That escalated quickly.
That happened to my buddy Eric once
Hate when that happens!
they had me in the first half ngl
Your friend was based.
It's so weird to me that Letterboxd is technically a social media. I get kinda annoyed with profiles that are only shit post type reviews instead of real deep thoughts on movies, then remember technically it's another instagram or twitter but just for movies
Yep. That's Letterbox in a nutshell.
depends on who you follow
not all movies need an in depth review sometimes its nice to just give a fun joke
@@rickyrougs yep. people I follow can give me eleven paragraph deep critical serious reviews or shitpost extravaganza or something in-between. Entirely up to me how I shape my feed!
I'm only learning this now. I use letterboxd just to record what movies I watched and will watch, just to keep track of things. I don't review or interact with other profiles so I never realized this was a pseudo social media, that makes me like this platform a bit less.
But it explains all those times I went "hmm, 3.9/5, I'm not sure if I should watch this movie, maybe the reviews can change my mind" and the top review is some weird one-line shitpost. The site is still useful though, but I'm kind of meh on it now, and reading the shitposts and low effort jokes, I sort of like the people that I share this hobby with a bit less now :/
I had not heard of Letterboxd before watching this video
I have now heard of Letterboxd
I will continue to not use Letterboxd
Dont listen. The app is great
I have now believed that letterboxd is a good website that is worth my time yet i will not use it due to the fact that it will eventually exit my brain and i will use my time trying to create a nuclear reactor but realize i will be shot by armed police for trying to detonate it which I probably would
Same.

@@theflawedamy It’s not that it’s pointless. It’s simply wrong. You could argue that most people are terrible, or most film lovers are terrible, so it’s irrelevant to Letterboxd itself. You can choose to look only at the negative aspects of Letterboxd or appreciate it as a tool for film lovers and just accept all the ramifications that come with that. Every social media platform has terrible people, even the one you’re using right now. But there is no denying that Letterboxd is useful in many ways.

dude i just made a letterboxd account hours ago and saw ya, you have indeed the best letterboxd
i love letterboxd bc it's a fantastic place for recs/lists, but it sadly did make me love movies less bc of how competitive it is. i always felt pressured to watch a movie every day not bc i wanted to, but because i wanted to log it on the site. that and often comparing myself to the users who write one line reviews or essay length reviews. to keep it short, it did more harm than good to my mental health and ended up feeling burnt out to the point where i didn't log new movies for MONTHS.
I felt the same way with albumoftheyear (similar to rateyourmusic) I wanted to be the "most cultured" and would throw on all these classic albums even when I wasn't in a good head space.
Agreed
Damn, that’s sad
I felt that xD
Wait im confused are you like some sort of influencer on lb?
Where The Wild Things Are is my favourite film ever, and I had to pause a minute knowing that you have that on your top movies! It’s rated so badly with ppl, but it’s such a beautiful movie. I always cry watching it, Spike Jonze did a good job
I mean I've never watched the movie but I have read the book at least 50 times as a 2 year old and still believe it is a masterpiece so the film must be good.
Letterbox is just another Twitter, except people can judge you and your taste about movies.
So normal Twitter.
I could make a entire essay on the pain this site gives me and how I genuinely want the people their to suffer severe pain

I use letterboxd just as a way of recording the things I’ve watched and writing my little thoughts about them so I can look back on them. I think it’s a lot better than other social media because it’s something fun and useful even when you have zero followers.
same, it works really well this way. Google docs was what I was previously using and it just wasn't cutting it. This is so much better and a great tool.
yeah exactly, i don't like having followers bc the idea of being perceived and judged for my thoughts is too much for me
6:48 That dude’s gotta be trolling. No one out there genuinely thinks Thor: The Dark World is a 5-star movie.

Me and every other person on the planet felt profound warmth after finishing Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, but not enough people are obsessed with The Iron Giant. Letterboxd as a platform gets a 5/10 for this reason. Loved the video!

It's tempting to make a Letterbox account but that's a loop hole I don't want to fall into.
Love seeing your reviews on letterbox lol, they're always the most entertaining out of anyone i follow
I discovered Letterboxd from a content creator I follow on Instagram and I can see it kinda changed them. What went from a wholesome content creator about movies turned into a little… judgy and a little pompous (I know there’s a word I want to use but I forgot what it was) if you get what I mean. To be fair, I don’t watch a lot of movies these days, maybe because the pandemic killed my love for the cinema and made me realise I don’t need movies to stay alive (before the pandemic I’d go to the cinema every week just to see what’s up), maybe because I just don’t care anymore. I’m more of a short film/animation person when it comes to films anyways. Still, sometimes when I watch a movie I’m here to have a some fun and a good time, not necessarily to blow my brains out with something a little more… sophisticated? Don’t get me wrong, I love movies like those too, I just need to take some time to get my mindset ready for stuff like that.
As a user of letterboxd, I can confirm that the watchlist shit is true.
I love lists on letterbox. It’a fun to see the overlap on my watchlist. They’re also fun for weird recommendations.

I hate Letterboxd because as soon as I join 100 people start following me and then it makes you feel special, but if you look at their account they follow up to 20k people, it just sucks cause who takes that much time out of their day just to follow people on an app for reviewing movies.
Can we talk about the fact that caddicarus out of all people make normal movie reviews on letterboxd?

Letterboxd only sucks if you have no tolerance for human behavior, which is apparently most people nowadays. The site is literally nothing new and all issues with it are the same ones that exist on all other socials combined with philosophical differences on film...which have also existed for a long time.
I mean, if you can't stand bad takes, slang, or self-importance...maybe just don't use the internet at all.
Yeah, I agree. It seems like people are having less and less tolerance for human behavior as the years go by.
On that site people have strong opinions on everything, its not Anything like real people.
